Are you getting rid of your sensation? For the price range you have I'd stick with the sensation. You will have a much lower quality device than the sensation in that price range. Why not wait a bit and add another hundred or so and you can get a good quality device. After coming from sensation I doubt you will be satisfied with something of lesser quality. Look possibly for used devices and see what deals you can get. I wish you the best.

Your best bet is going to be something like a samsung galaxy vibrant. It's a large step down but it does have a couple great jelly bean roms out for it that I've been using. If you're really lucky you might be able to pick up a LG G2x for close to that price on craigs list, but you'd have to get pretty lucky. I lucked out and got my sensation for $150 so you never know.
Like realsis says though you are going to be getting an inferior phone for that price, but you can get something usable and reliable. I keep my vibrant as a back up phone just in case I fubar my sensation so I know how you feel.
People say the Samsung Exhibit II can be had around that in the used market. I've never used one myself but a friend has one and likes it. I'm sure in the single core world, there's probably something better to be had for the money though.
Yes, the G2x would be a "good" choice if you can score one for that cheap. People hate on that phone for software issues. But its sibling might be getting ICS soon (I might be wrong), so it may be in its future unofficially as well. Problem is no nVidia drivers so no hardware acceleration for the roms now.
I would go for the HD2, thats a windows phone, but there is android for it (even JB) windowns phone 6.5, 7 and 7.5 and meego, or try the galaxy s, thats a good phone to!

Anything newer than a Hero really, You want it to have its own GPU and not just a CPU. Angry birds on the hero lags horribly and even facebook takes ages to load!
Let me describe my almost 1-year long experience with mentioned devices.
HD2 was the nicest phone to work with. No S-OFF's and ****. Just flashing hspl and bootloader from RUU and you are on fully unlocked android (one-time job). Everything else is fastboot and CWM. N1 roms just need a diff and they are ported to HD2 in no time. Only problem I had were hardware buttons. they get squashed after time and eventually they can damage display's ribbon cable or just stop working (about ~1.5 y and you get problems).
Galaxy series (or vibrant in US) is typical samsung-you will get tons of RIL issues due to poor baseband implementation. Missed calls. After time it also develops pink spot on camera, and gps shouldn't be on list of features at all-it bearly works on open field. Mic disorts and noone can hear you on the other end. Only thing good about it is the screen.
I also had SE Arc which is also cheap, but it's camera cannot focus closer than arm's lenght (macros are mission impossible) and it had same cheap feeling of S, but it's screen is in 2008 netbook range (no group watching of photos on this phone is possible) and resolution of 854x480 which confuses many apps. Plus it's hard to unlock without voiding warranty and speed is comparable to HD2.
I have got the Sensation a few days ago for 180 euro but it's by far the best used phone you can get on cheap. just sayin'. I S-OFFed with Juopunutbear and I'm unlocked without loosing warranty. S3 kicks even GN's ass (omap4) in terms of speed and gpu power.
Look on eBay. Some phones are still expensive (e.g. iPhone) but others are stupidly cheap (e.g. pre)

What are the chances current rooting methods and ROM's for the DHD will work on the Inspire?
I would assume that it would be the same. We just have to wait for the devs to get their hands on it. I am ditching the captivate for a better working gps and larger screen. Hoping this phone pans out to be half way decent.
If you can run dhd roms with it and swap out the modem driver for the 4g then we should have gingerbread in the form of cm7 right away.
Woo can't wait!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
There is nothing to swap modem wise... "4G" is not a feature that has been added compared to the European or Telus version. They all have HSPA+. It's just that AT&T has decided to give the technology a flashy name.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
The inspire 4G looks identical to the Desire HD and according to my sources they share the same code name .... ACE .... if this is the case the desire HD stuff is relevent ..... when someone gets there hands on one pls pm me to see if the inspire can be rotted by the normal methods ( user shoud know how to use fastboot + adb )
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If anyone is brave enough to teardown an Inspire 4G, they could also compare to the DHD teardown:
http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/40711-demontage-desire-hd-tombe-dans-leau/
And confirm if anything looks greatly different.
Seeing as the Telus Desire HD will be on the same frequencies and was announced the same day as AT&T's version, I would be very surprised if there were any hardware differences at all between that and the Inspire 4G. The Telus/Bell network is HSPA+ capable (as evidenced by Bell's Desire Z launch) so I can't see any reason Telus would intentionally ask HTC to send them a version with such a feature stripped out.
If it turns out to be able hackable via the exact same way as the Desire HD and it can run the same unmodified ROMS then perhaps this entire forum section for the Inspire 4G is pointless. In which case it might be better to get rid of the Inspire 4G section or rather merge it and rename the Desire HD to "Desire HD / Inspire 4G"

I have one too, and yes.
It's not just GPS and a bigger screen.
I don't know about you, but I'm STILL waiting for the Sense ROM to get stable for Captivate and I don't think it's coming anytime soon. Inspire is.
Plus the better camera and flash.
Plus the more premium-feeling aluminum case.
Plus, again--HTC.
I would switch in a heartbeat considering warranty has to give you a phone due to ATT not holding Captivate [refurb] anymore.
Captivate, Galaxy, Vibrant, whatever the hell they call that phone these day, it sux donkey's balls. The GPS is garbage, the phone feels like garbage in ur hands, samsung software update is garbage. Stick w HTC, even if they dont give out official updates, we will always be up to date due to how much devs here on xda are supporting HTC products, HTC sense beats samsung, motorola and lg all day.
I know I am doing my best to justify changing phones form the Captivate, mostly because of the similarity to the DHD and the fact that it is an HTC phone.
Its working gps. Supported phone from the manufacturer. Flash for the camera. Etc that have me leaving my captivate. SAMSUNG really rubbed me the wrong way and a lot of other people as well with their lack of communication and support for their customers. They are more interested in developing new phones and forgetting about their existing customer base and keeping them as loyal customers.
HTC is a phone company that I have used in the past and have been extremely happy with them. I will never buy another SAMSUNG phone.
I think you guys have talked me into it. When I night the captivate I was happy with it for a little until I hit the common problems (gps, updates, lack of real asop devs). I have really wanted to get an htc but I don't want to lose the great display. Do you guys think the inspire will have a better screen than the evo? My buddy has one and the display is lacking big time.

Does your buddy have the AMOLED or SLCD Evo?
The AMOLED is comparable to the Nexus One screen which is brilliant in some light and rather dim in others. The SLCD has a more even appearance to it, and is comparable to the Desire HD screen. Possibly still not as bright as the Samsung super AMOLED but you'd have to decide for yourself.

I found the two phones comparable in almost every way, but I liked the way the Sensation felt in my hand. The GSII is very thin, but also very squared... the Sensation feels like a worn bar of soap and just fits me nicely.
GSII wasnt available in the USA, and I was ready to upgrade from my stupid MT3G (without the 3.5mm jack!)
Pretty simple.
SGS2 wasn't available in the USA at the time, and I was ready to upgrade from an original Samsung Gravity (yes, one of those crappy free slider phones that existed before Android came into existence). I would have definitely gotten the SGS2 if it was out, and at this point I'm already waiting for a phone that I will consider a complete upgrade from the Sensation (meaning that while I would've gotten a SGS2 from the start if it was out, I won't trade for it once I've already settled for the Sensation because it's not a complete upgrade in the sense that some things like resolution are actually a downgrade). Nexus Prime, maybe something early next year, I don't know. Even though I'm saying these things I'll probably end up actually holding on to the Sensation for at least a year, but I doubt I'll hold on to it for the extent of the whole 2-year contract.
Screen resolution was the deciding factor for me
Because screen resolution and better build quality... And it was a little bit cheaper.

The Sensation has an asynchronous CPU which should sip less power. Also in my opinion the SGSII feels "plastic/cheap".
Like others have said, SGSII wasn't available in the US at the time of purchase. I would have definetly chosen the SGSII over the sensation if it was available. But in hindsight, I really like the build quality of the sensation and the qHD screen makes browsing the web such a pleasure. So in the end, I'm glad I got the sensation.
I chose Sensation because I believed it would have better CyanogenMod support. But what do I see now, CM, AOSP and MIUI working on SGSII and only crappy alpha builds on Sensation. And don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the efforts of devs working on these builds, but I'm really starting to lose my patience with this. If I could choose again, I would probably choose SGSII.
Because I was on the @samsung #neveragain bandwagon, and never got off. HTC has a great track record of support their customers, and Samsung... well, it's Samsung. The only think that Samsung has to offer is their super amoled screens. However, when comparing my Vibrant to the Sensation, the Vibrant's colors looks kinda bled out. It was a no-brainer for me.
I chose sensation for the following-
* if i wanted an iphone i would have got one! I dont like the look of the sgsii
* i prefer the htc interface, i know it runs slower with this but it still very smooth for me.
* sgsii just felt way too light
GSII wasn't available in the US and the Sensation was the closest thing to it.
Its a phone and I felt it was time to upgrade. Am I dissatisfied for not waiting? No... Something better will always come out. In a few months after the release of the GS2 some people will write a similar thread to this in their section.

Because I'm with T-Mobile USA and could get the Sensation now. SGS II not yet available.
Because my favorite ROM cook got one .
Because I really do like Sense 3.0
Because there's plenty of great hacks available and again I'll mention Sense 3.0 because the Sensation can use Sense ROMs, but an SGS II cannot run Sense ROMs 100% perfectly.
Because overall it seems HTC customers are happier.
Because I didn't know HTC would be so lame in their methods for providing an unlocker (name, rank and serial number...) but 3rd party hacks overcome that. Do to this though, Samsung probably will get my money next buy, not the SGS II, but something later.
Because I couldn't get SGII when I upgraded my phone and there was no word of its ETA. I still one more upgrade left on my account so I am probably going to grab teh SGII as well when it available.
... because my my first android was the Vibrant. Some wounds take time to heal.
Hey guys. Greetings from the Vibrant community. Im eligible for an upgrade. Ive been lurking around here and the SGS II forums, trying to decide on a new phone. I know the SGS II is a beast, but havent seen any custom roms that just pop for me. Thats not a knock and the devs, I have a ton of respect for what they do. On the other hand there are several polished roms here. So are you guys still loving your Sensation's? Sensation or SGS II ?? Any input would be great? Thanks.
I think the Sensation is superior now.
QHD always over an aging 800x480 resoltion. Blacks are not that much better on the GS2 and would take QHD everytime. This is the main thing for me.
Faster processor
Better built
Resolution for me always wins. I don't need ultra black blacks on a mobile device, overrated difference anyway.
What are you using your phone for? What are your priorities?
Sensation fits mine the best. (screen resolution, audio quality, design, price - 100 EUR cheaper than GS2 here)
Yeah, I do love mine

Greg,
I just switched from Vibrant to Sensation and I love this phone a lot. The GPS works great unlike vibrant. There are lot of sense roms available. CM 7 is at alpha stage. Currently, I am on TMX rom which I really like a lot with great battery. I tried muiu but had few problems. Eventually, I will get on CM 7 when they are on nightly. I had CM 7 nightly on my vibrant unfortunately, I had problems with incoming calls which was due to hardware problem.
Honestly I use my phone to talk, text and surf the web. I dont watch movies or put music on it. The GPS on the vibrant wasnt an issue. I kept it off anyways. You guys are making me want a sensation! Thanks for the input guys. Nice to see its civil in here!

you can probably get a used sensation for $250-260 off craigslist or ebay if you search well, $300 easy. an SII is going to cost at least $425. all things equal i'd probably pick the SII (as i'd prefer having an awesome camera and SAMOLED over moderately more high resolution screen), but only by a hair. with the difference in cost i chose the sensation and don't regret it

I prefer SGSII if the phone is not going to be modded. (e.g. S-off, root, custom rom, etc) cause the touchwiz is very nice. i like how SGSII looks and the functions inside.
Well Htc sensation is aniother choice for you if you're using the phone more in entertainment purpose. Beats audio included, 720p video recording, etc. and there's different kind of roms too, you can mod your phone in the way you want. Btw, I'm having a Htc sensation xe.
I'm a media head so actually the sensation works out for me. I wanted a SGS II but wound up getting my Sensation for free (business account) so I went the Sensation route.
Having it modded with Beats is nice, but I never use the HTC Music app (actually will be soon), I watch movies on it every so often (mostly because I got the 10 dollar credit on HTC watch for being a Tmo customer)
I surf the web, text, use GPS ALOT (I never turn it off), calls, emails, and more. Coming from a Moto Droid X2, I fell in love with QHD and felt the resolution on the SGS II was a downgrade.
The audio part is HUGE for me since I have the klispche ear buds they just released for Android Phones (Overrated when using the app for them, but the audio quality is GREAT)
So, I would say it is what you use it for. Me personally, my eyesight isn't great at seeing what the difference is color wise. So deeper blacks never existed for me. Battery life, build quality, and more are. I don't want to hold a phone and feel like I am holdiing a toy.
Lol, faster processor? They're the same.

Faster Processor? I was under the impression that the GSII's Exynos is the best in the business.
The T-Mobile sgs2 has a 1.5 Snapdragon. Exact same as the Amaze. Sensation has essentially the same but its underclocked to 1.2. Both are in the S3 line of snapdragons. I also believe both have the adreno 220 gpu.

Honestly I go where the cyanogenmod is. Seriously.
HTC phones always have the best rom support and GPS locks in seconds. Literally.
HTC quality control blows though. Dust under screen, light leaks, different screens, bad emmc chips, the list goes on.

HTC rooting is easy once you're up to speed and fastboot is nice. But odin can and will be a lifesaver sooner or later, lol.
At the end of the day if you want to run cyanogenmod sooner rather than 6 months later than everyone else (ahem, vibrant!) then HTC is the only choice.

To the OP:
i got my sensation as a warranty exchange from the vibrant. just wondering why you are thinking of sensation or gs2, i would think you would be thinking the Amaze or the GS2...
if you are buying used it makes sense as the sensation would be cheaper, but if you are getting it for signing a new 2 yr contract, why are you contemplating the Sensation over the Amaze (which is updated and has more Ram)?
Hello everyone. Im deciding whether to get the Sensation or Amaze and finally hop back on the HTC bandwagon. I currently have the Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint and hate it lol. It has no development compared to this Phone . Im switching companies so I just want to know from you guys who have the Sensation, should I join you guys or pay a little more for the Amaze?

I wouldn't call it pointless. Removable battery and an SD card slot, as well as a non-pentile display are some key points for the Sensation.
The One S has Sense 4.0 officially, and it's technically faster, but realistically there's no difference in speed unless you're playing the newest, hottest games - and even at that the Sensation should be able to cover it.
Get the Sensation and enjoy the XDA Development in this forum section! cool
The Amaze has a slightly better camera, room for an SD card, and removable battery. I had the phone and enjoyed it for a bit.....but the XDA community for it...man, you just want to stay away from there.. It is one of the most unfriendliest XDA environments.
So if you like trying different Roms and Mods and not being harassed for asking a question that might have been asked 3 months ago, stay away from the Amaze on XDA.
If you are just gonna run stock Rom and you can get the Amaze at the same price as the Sensation then I would say go for it.
Thanks guys and yeah their forums look pretty rough. I don't need a "God Phone" , I just want a newer and nicer looking phone and im thinking of getting the sensation over the Amaze at this point. The Amaze has terrible battery life and although the build quality and specs are impressive, i've seen a rom on here that makes the sensation pretty much equal to the Amaze.. Oh and im not going to T-Mobile with it im buying an unlocked version and using it on Simple Mobile. I got tired of seeing my mom's infuse 4G on simple get 7.3Mbps and I usually average roughly 700kbps and I pay $40 more lol. Plus in my opinion, the Sensation looks better than the Amaze anyway and I was going to get the SG3 but honestly im not going back to Sammy again rather lay back and chill with the HTC crew like old times lol

In a way im not sure but its the fastest MVNO company to rise ever and its fairly respected especially since it only launched 3 years ago. It runs on T-Mobile's GSM network so you basically have T-Mobile service but you pay relatively less. They have unlimited everything with 4G for only $65 with tax included. Not alot of people like it and say the service isnt great but it depends on where you live. I live in Buffalo NY and they cover all of the area and with 4G..something Sprint failed to accomplish in the year i've been with them lol. I just have a lot of expenses now and the $100 a month is hurting me on Sprint.
Once I get the Sensation 4G hopefully or the Amaze whichever one, it will be unlocked and used with this Company. Check them out if your looking for a GSM alternative and you live in the states

Oh and they are also a pre paid service but mainly are known for their awesome Unlimited $40 and $60 dollar plans. And the coverage aint half bad either

I honestly only wanted the Amaze just because it was newer and faster and that is one thing everyone said about the phone. The sensation with GB and sense 3.0 lagged and was slower in the Quadrants compared to other DC phones like the G2X and Atrix SG2. The Amaze is quick but pays the price with battery life. And yeah development on here from what i've seen is "SENSATIONAL" if I may say. And im sure the awesome dev's on here have turned this phone into one to be reckoned with!!

Amaze isn't actually faster. It's just clocked at 1.5Ghz whereas the Sensation is underclocked at 1.2Ghz. Once you've rooted and whatnot, you can overclock or flash a new kernel. Either way, the Sensation can match the Amaze.

Yeah true and both phones are basically the same, just both has their own different design style. I am quite looking forward to seeing the difference in QHD verses my Super Amoled also. 960x540 on a 4.3" should look very good!!
I'm using a Bell Sensation on AT&T right now. Over the past few months I've been cycling through phones and though I 'stalk' the marketplace, I simply can't find a reason to let go of my Sensation.
Developer support is great - you have your choice of so many ROMs that there is something that works for everyone's tastes. The only thing that the Sensation 'lacks' is RAM - 1GB would be nice and it was something I was worried about when I bought it, but it hasn't been a problem at all. Expandable storage and removable battery are a must for me so the One Series is out of the question for me at this point. Great display quality as well. Go with the Sensation - you won't be disappointed.
The T-Mobile variant is very reasonably priced as well.
Go for the sensation. The specs doesn't really go far from the amaze virtually plus the development community is great. A lot of variety to choose from.

Get the sensation flash the newest OrDroid rom and you will be satisfied for months. I find it funny how we kind of have the same story ! I too had sprint and my mom simple mobile. She would get 7mbps down while i was lucky to even see 400kbps down on my Epic 4g Touch(galaxy s2). I Finally made the switch to simple mobile and got the sensation ! I am very pleased. Oh and btw if you have a t-mobile phone (sensation) it doesn't need to be unlocked to work on simple mobile. Just pop in the sim card set the apn and you're ready to go.

I water damaged my old phone and I am looking to replace it with something better. My old phone is the Samsung Galaxy Gio and the new phone I'm looking to get is the best HTC phone I can find. I was told by a friend that the sensation is good and I'd like some more opinions.

Best HTC phone you can find is the htc one x, it depends on your budget. The sensation is most likely not going to get any more official support but here on xda that doesn't matter. Other than that if you want a good phone for a good price then yeah the sensation isn't that bad. If I were you I would get the galaxy nexus.
Well in that case, I narrowed it down to the HTC one x, the galaxy nexus or the galaxy s2 (I would get the s3 but its out of my price range)

i respectfully disagree..
if we compare what we can do with them;
galaxy nexus is the best when it comes to the updates. and it is also the referance device so you don't have to worry if any ap will work on it or not.
but today i went to an electronic market shop and checked every top android phone and decided that i did not want to go for a amoled screen.. even though they give best colors even the newest galaxy s3 phones had screen burns and the phones were only there 1 month max.. normally i change phones in 3-4 months but this time i made a promise and i have to keep my new phone at least 1-1.5 year so amoled screen gives me the best blacks but every day i have to watch its leds degrade.. on the other hand sensations mid-quality black-good brightness screen will remain the same even after a few good years..
on the memory side, nexus gives us USB OTG, no way to do this with htc because they changed the frameworks but there is a memory card slot which is more useful until 64 Gb.. if you are willing to carry a external hdd and a cable with you and willing to sacrifise some battery juice then the nexus is good for you..
on the ram side; since the sense UI can remove itself from the background when it is not necessary and the screen is not 720p 768Mb is quite enough and not falling so short compared to nexus' 1 gb ram. (not so sure about this but months i used sensation XE and never got out of ram or had any problems)
there is a FM radio on sensation
sound quality is better on sensation (XE)
camera sensor is better on sensation (but need some software touch to unlock its full potential)
and the GPU is also better and more suitable for OCing if you are into OCing.. adreno GPUs are good at giving effects and fall behind the mali-400 when it comes to filling textures.. but at this resulotion, it is more than enough to play any game.. and you can gain %25+ with OC, this is about %10-15 on the nexus.. i was having 52-53 FPS on nena mark2 while the one x had 55..
and you can also buy a white or beats audio housing and change the way it looks whenever you want..
so, according to my fully subjective comparison is more fun to buy sensation (XE) than nexus..
Would the one x be better than the sensation?

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise: yes. What carrier are you on? Because an even better one x is coming out for T-Mobile soon that you might want to wait for if you decide on a great HTC phone

Well I live in Canada and I am with Bell so I'm not sure if the one x is even compatible.
