I could use a custom recovery image, please. - myTouch 4G General

Hey XDA, its been a while since iv'e been in this section. See, i once had a Mytouch 4G, and the volume broke so i couldn't get the the recovery, i tried everything, even took it to t-mobile. Then this guy managed to fix it, and he said i was lucky they even had mytouch 4g parts, since they're so different from other phones. Anyway i guess what i'm asking is, Is there somehow, some way, that someone could make a custom recovery, (preferably Cyanogenmods) that you can maybe access through pressing say, "Power and back" ? Anything that doesnt involve the volume keys. It'd be greatly appreciated.

1) The recovery is not accessed by button commands. The bootloader is.
2) Use adb to access recovery if the phone is off, and terminal emulator, ROM Manager or Advanced Power Menu when in Android.
adb reboot recovery
Terminal Emulator - reboot recovery

Oh i forgot to say. Adb doesnt work for the phone. And also, the guy at the shop ****ed it up, so it has no rom to boot up either, which is why i need to access the recovery. If someone wanted to give it a shot and try to boot it up by adb, I'd be more than welcome to let you try on Teamviewer.

Then you screwed buddy. You would have to use adb to flash the recovery image.

No ROM, adb or bootloader? It's a paperweight.

I'm not sure. I was able to get it to work on my older androids, but i could never get it to work on the MT4G. Thats why if someone could spare sometime and use Teamviewer to help me out a bit, that'd be cool.

Wouldn't i need to enable USB Debugging to even use this? I cant power up the phone, no rom is installed.

No.

Haha well thanks to you all, i finally got this working. i tried about three different guides and finally found one that worked for my phone. Thanks alot guys.:good:

Phone Dead After updating to magic port!!!!

i was presented with a picture of an IC microchip and an arrow pointing down.
i restarted the phone and now it wont start.
i cant get into bootloader mode or recovery mode...
Please help me get my phone back!!!!
did you let it finish? the ic microchip and arrow pointing thing? or did you yank out the battery?
i panicked and yanked out the battery...i killed it, didnt i?
I think he didn't let the phone finish and restarted the phone cause it wasa taking too long if that's the case 99.0% the phone is bricked. It happend to somebody else here already. Jy
He just call tmobile and told them the wasn't turning on and they send him a replacement.
I think this is something that needs to be added to the flashing roominstructions.

oh well, i just hope i get a replacement quickly
that happened to me so i called t-mo and told them that my g1 wont turned on at all and tried the other battery so they send me a replacement. of course i was a noob back then. i learned my lesson in a hard way so i suffer a week without my precious g1 lol.

how about take out the sdcard and connect it to the computer, put the jfr33 in it, and flash your phone again. It works

If the phone can't reach the bootloader or recovery console I don't think ADB is going to work but I could be wrong.
patience is a virtue
your topic title is misleading and could lead users who haven't tried yet to be too wary about flashing over to Haykuro's builds...
Ultimately...your phone didn't mess up after flashing 4.X..YOU messed up.
if you cant turn on youre g1 then it is dead, even if you connect it to pc or what if it cant be turned be on, it is dead cuz thats what happened to me so just call t-mo and tell them youre phone wont turn on and you tried another battery still wont turn and DO NOT tell them you modify or even saying you attemped to modify your g1's rom.
the best thing for him to do would be flash rc29 nbh and start from scratch...the phone is more than likely not bricked.

To my opinion, i do not think the phone is bricked since there is no hardware issue is involving, it's the software itself, if he can access to the root of the sd card, problem is solved.
but oh well, i would call Tmobile and request a new shinny phone . wait... they will send a refurbished one won't they? oh noo...
I have a similar problem, i was attempting to move apps to the sd card, partitioned it, installed the lucidrem rom and then started using his code and the flashing android loop started, turned it off and back on and still the flashing android, i used the fastboot method to restore my nandroid backup, and the phone is back to working, my problem is that i cant access recovery mode.
everything else is fine, just when i try to load the recovery mode it just stays on the boot screen, can anybody help a newbie out?
the bootloader works, and the phone can load normally, but the recovery mode wont start.

That happened to me also. When I installed lucidrem's rom the recovery would work. What it actually was that when you first rooted your g1 do you rmr installing the recovery img? Well its pretty much the same thing lucidrems rom didn't have a recovery img command line attatched to it. I just installed recovery again from the terminal emulator just like it said in the root your g1 thread.
Atleast that is my side of the story. I don't anything about coding. So I could be wrong but that was just my experience.

Having trouble getting into Recovery Mode

Alright, so I've been trying to root my relay. I've rooted other phones and tablets in the past and have been told that this device is fiendishly simple to root. All I have to do is flash CWM through Odin then simply flash superuser and I'm done, or so I'm told.
Only problem is, I can't get CWM to work!
I've downloaded cwm.tar.md5 from this very forum (HERE), I've pushed it through Odin I don;t know how many different ways and times (Via the PDA function, via phone, with F reset on, with it off, with it as 'cwm.tar' with it as 'cwm.tar.md5' it always seems to load just fine.
The only problem is when I try to go into recovery mode.
Hold Vol Up, Home and Power, right?
It'll power on, show the samsung logo, show the galaxy relay s logo, then just hang on a black screen until I release the buttons, then it starts over and boots all the way through.
So what am I missing? Do I have to hold them a certain way or wait til a logo loads, push them all at once or to vol then home then power and hold all three? Does the moon need to be full? I;ve tried this dozens of times to no avail.
it should just work with the keys but anyway try plugging it into usb and type
adb reboot recovery
into command line on your computer (or you can do it on the terminal emulator)
thanks. I'm kind of a nub when it comes to all the SDK stuff. Never had to use it before. I think I have all the necessary software, just not sure how to use it. Do I just plug the phone in, hit adb exe and start typing?
Tried reboot recovery in emulator but it wouldn;t let me because i'm not rooted.
hmm if it doesn't work in terminal emulator it wouldn't work with adb either... i thought root wouldn't be needed for that command...
i guess you're back to the keys way... or you could try to flash the pre-rooted image from odin

Any idea why the keys wouldn't work?
If I flash a pre-rooted image that'll wipe my data, right?
Not a huge deal, most stuff is on the cloud these days anyway but it'd be annoying, I;d like to save it for last resort.
Is there a pre-rooted image availble?

Any further advice, guys? I appreciate what's been offered so far, just need to know what to do next.
Also, it looks like I can do a temp root with Z4root, but not a permanent one. Tried using the terminal emulator after I got a temp root but the pp didn;t work properly after that. Likewise, tried installing superuser after temp root and got no result.
So can I just flash a pre-rooted rom through Odin? If so, will it erase everything? And is there a pre-rooted rom avilable?

Contacts Recovery. No Screen (smashed), No Root and no USB Debug enabled

Hi, I have a friend who has just smashed their Desire S whilst out on Sat.
Unfortunately, as the title says, they have no screen (touch doesnt appear to work either but no real way of telling!), not root, no USB debug and I have already checked and they didnt have their contacts set to sync with their google account but with the phone! :-/
Can anyone give any suggestions other than a screen replacement? They have already got an S3 on the way today so just want to be able to restore their contacts.
Cheers and thanks in advance!
I think this is definitely possible, but it may get very complicated.
Do you have adb in recovery (you'll have to boot into fastboot and blindly navigate to the recovery option)? Is the bootloader unlocked?

Thanks for replying Aquous!
I have just been given the phone today from a friend to try and help them out so im not sure on either? Do you have a desire s and would be able to tell me the button sequence to get into recovery to find out? As for the bootloader being unlocked, i very much doubt it as the phone was running a stock orange rom.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
It is unlikely indeed that you will be able to recover the data as the phone is. If you're in the UK (possible as the phone is on Orange) and fancy posting it then I can stick my LCD and touch panel on it for you so I can recover the data.
Also if u r in the uk, try a phone repair shop that has jtag, they should be able to pull any data off the phone.

Then you probably don't have adb in recovery either.
We can try the easy way first: from the Google Play website (on your computer), download TalkBack to your phone and see if you can launch it blind. From there on, your phone will read to you what's on the screen
If you can't manage to do that, I have another option in mind but it's complicated and you may not be able to recover your contacts:
Unlock the bootloader via htcdev. This will wipe your data, but if you don't allow the rom to boot after the unlocking, this is OK.
Immediately after issuing the fastboot oem unlock command, HOLD DOWN THAT VOLUME - BUTTON. If the ROM is allowed to load, your data will be significantly harder, if not impossible, to recover.
If you held Vol - correctly after the unlock, you'll be in fastboot (if the phone vibrated, quickly pull the battery before the rom starts writing to the data partition).
From fastboot, boot a custom recovery ('fastboot boot recovery.img')
In this custom recovery, you have adb. Pull the data partition and run file recovery software to try to reconstruct the data that was on it but was wiped by the unlock process.
Purposefully not giving any clearer instructions than this, because if you don't know what you're doing the chances are very high that you're going to do it wrong and won't be able to recover the data.

Yup, everything i needed off it worked.
I left it for a while as a last resort because of the risk of total data loss and bought a replacement screen which was DOA!
So you plan came into play and it really worked. It wasnt so hard as the steps you gave just helped me get the order right in my head rather than trying something and mucking it up even more!
Thanks again good sir! She was very pleased!

Softbricked my nexus 5? Any help?

So i'm not super competent in adb and what not, but just competent to use wuggs toolkit. I went to google's website to download lollipop 5.0 for my nexus 5. Then i set the phone back to stock, flash 5.0 and its running well. Then i go back in to settings, developer options, and to root my nexus 5 and install TWRP on it through wuggs. Now it has twrp, but will not boot up past the google name with the unlock. I only have the fastboot page and TWRP. The big kicker here is that my pc says does not recognize device and it flickers back and forth with connection every two seconds to my PC. When i go into device manager it shows android device though. So well hey i figure since i have a softbricked nexus i'll just click the button for it and reset. Well it wont do it, it pulls up fastboot.exe goes through a few commands, some saying it failed then it stops and windows tells me to close fastboot.exe
Any help from the very respected XDA?

There's your answer right there. That's how ppl like Op brick their devices everyday
Do some research, read read and lastly Read
If you can adb the factory image you can adb a recovery. Google how to. Its literally one comand line.
Stop tossing the word bricked around, a brick is a phone that doesn't turn on and don't blame other things if you don't know how to use them.
Google is your best friend. No one is going to hold your hand.

It's a suggestion
Disclaimer: I use OS X/Terminal to fix these things normally and honestly found that after the initial learning curve, it's easier than using Windows or Wugfresh. I'm not a developer, just a hobbyist user.
Make sure you're using an OEM cable to connect to the computer if you're getting dropouts. Also, attempt to uninstall and reinstall OEM drivers (I believe Wugfresh has instructions on how to do this) for Windows.
If you have confirmed that you have TWRP 2.8.1.0 installed, try to boot to TWRP --> ADB Sideload. Connect phone to computer, open Terminal/Console and type the command 'adb devices' (without the apostrophes. I haven't used Windows since I stop using Wugfresh, so the command probably differs). If the device can be seen through this, you should be able to return to the bootloader and start issuing fastboot commands to flash the image.
Let me know how I can help!

The link I provided has a lot of information about flashing stock firmware. At this point you probably want a short answer but it would be best if you read the whole post. That way you will have more knowledge about what you are doing.
You need the firmware for your device.
You need TWRP
You need to know how to use ADB
I could try to explain all of this here but it is already explained in the post I linked to. So try reading it carefully, and then ask questions about the parts you don't understand.

adb commands are used in recovery/booted system.
@none24 let the phone stay on until it dies then plug in usb and see if it boots after that.
