Crackling Noise while listening to music - HTC One S

Hey everyone,
My brother currently owns the HTC One S and I guess he's been experiencing some popping crackling noise while listening to music using any
music app. At first we thought it was Beats Audio, but since he just rooted and flashed the latest CM9, which it doesn't have beats audio built into it, he still hears those crackling noises. Is anyone else experiencing this??? Thanks

blown speaker......thats really the reason

Well this only happens while wearing headphones. The phone is like brand new too. Is funny because he just told me that while listening to music on youtube, he didn't hear that crackling noise. It's only when he listens to music directly from Pandora or iheartradio. very weird

Hmmm...it doesn't do it in you tube for me too. But this happens only with my external speaker when I'm using the music app. Maybe it's the roms then

I had the same problem. It also would crackle when hooked up to 3.5mm in my car. I couldn't use the square card reader or intuit go payment app that I need for work. Tom the phone back to tmo and they gave me a new one and it doesn't do it anymore and I just rooted my phone.

i posted a thread about this before but no one noticed..but i have the problems only when listening to music from the speaker...i can tell you it's not blown..the majority of the songs are garbled or crackling even on the playstore when you click play..headsets are perfectly fine..youtube is fine too..i think HTC for this phone put some kinda of protection on playing certain songs or whatnots..its annoying cuz you cannot have a lot of ringtones...most are crackling..

Sound plays through headphones AND speakers.

Hey, I'm currently use a stock JF6 rom and for some reason, sound plays through the headphones AND the speakers. Would anyone know what causes this? It's pretty frustrating, I have a flight to catch on monday and I just want to listen to music on the damn thing.

Voodoo sound fuzzy and staticy

Anyone elses audio come out fuzzy when using voodoo driver? Doesn't matter which db setting I use. I'm going 3.5mm to 3.5mm on my car radio and it happens no matter what listening to Pandora, Spotify, etc. Any ideas? Thanks!

Nothing huh?
Same here, if I turn up the volume.
Sent from my G2X
I only have that with Pandora but I'm not sure if its the phone or app because it is the ad free one posted in our themes and apps for the g2x.

Edit: after I said that I noticed it while watching YouTube videos and when cask forwarding a song in default music player
So I wonder if it's just the G2x, if it does it without voodoo, etc. What is the root hmmm
Are you also charging your phone at the same time? Car chargers tend to make the phone's audio jack all buzzy.

Really weird audio issue

Only certain songs with a particular frequency of mid bass cause just my right channel to have a "bwop" sound on the beat for that particular frequency instead of completely clean sound like I get on the left channel.
I have no dsp settings enabled. This happens in Pandora and PlayerPro, with headphones and through the headphone jack to my car stereo aux. The problem exists at any volume.
I'm running a stable release of cm9 meant for my att skyrocket.
** this even used to happen on my old captivate w/cm7!!** (but on both channels)
I know this sounds like nitpicking but I play all my music through my car stereo and this "bwop" sound makes it sound like I'm blowing a speaker and I'm an audiophile and it kills me to hear something like this when I know there should be something I can do to fix it.
I often listen to electro genre and it happens to use this frequency a lot more often. An example today was Wolfgang Gartner - Montezuma.
I would love any help or ideas

I haven't noticed anything like you describe. What song is it?
See the reference, Wolfgang Gartner - Montezuma. However this happens in a lot of electro or house. I'm not really a Deadmau5 fan but almost all his songs create this issue too

I'm a pretty hardcore deadmau5 fan and can say I never hear anything like you describe. Dunno what else to say,
Strange, i wonder what's going on. Wish someone else with this issue would surface, i'd love to find a fix.

Wondering...
Has this issue always plagued you on cm9 on the skyrocket? Or after a certain update?
It would be strange to say it's ROM related because it happened to you on cm7 and cm9, AND on different devices.. But, have you tried a different ROM on your skyrocket? Same results?
Have you had your hearing checked lately? Lol jk jk..
Seems like an isolated issue. (that I've herd of)
Only other thing I could think of was the peripheral that is playing the sound. Is there other headphones, or another vehicle to test on?
It would bug me.. I have a blown speaker in my car (bad wiring) So I haven't listened to music in it for months.
It's always been on the only rom I've run on this. I'm going to try my girlfriends S3 and see what happens..

Random Zapping noise while listening to music

Not sure how to exactly describe the sound but I randomly get a ear piercing zapping noise while listening through earphones or connected to aux wire in the car. After it happens the volume gets lower and I have to pull out the wires and then restart the song. Anyone else experience this?
Fyi my setup is latest synergy r147. But it also happened since I had r125.
Maybe its just hardware related.
this is only happening in poweramp and not the stock player.

Not necessarily. It could be that your audio cable is damaged or there is a grounding loop if you're charging it as well

poweramp seems to be the problem
I tried playing the same files on the stock player but never got the squealing noise. and if i unplug it it still squeals. and it happens when it is cold outside. pls help i cannot figure it out. seems like poweramp is the problem so i deleted poweramp and reinstalled it. and only restored data from TIBU. and after a while the noise comes back. i don't know what to do

It's the file format themselves then. Which file formats do you notice cause the squeaking? For me, I noticed that wma and m4a files cause constant squeaking in PowerAmp whereas mp3's work fine. I have zero issues playing those same audio files in the stock player. Basically, any music files that I placed on my phone from Windows Media Player and iTunes cause music popping/cracking unless using the stock music player.

It's ridiculous that those two file formats cause issues for me. The worst part is I have those same exact files on my HTC Droid Incredible and have absolutely no issues. It was something I noticed immediately once I received my GSIII in July but previously had no issues with. Months ago I sent an email to the PowerAmp dev to inquire about this and they told me it was an issue with Samsung's firmware not their app. It seems like Samsung sabotaged music file compatibility with third party apps. I still love PowerAmp though.

I've been having the same problem. Whether its my ear phones, AV cable in the car or, at work it does it. Even on different apps (native music player, play music, and podcast app). I have an otter box so my ports are good and clean and no water damage. No idea why it happens but I've got a replacement on the way for an unrelated reason. So hopefully it won't do it too.

Fwiw I think I found the problem....it was a low voltage problem. When my voltages for kernel settings were tweaked to be lower I would immediately get the zapping sounds. Can't say what the levels were but anything I setup away from stock...it happened. Hope this helps anyone.
