DirecTV Remote app works on TF700T - Asus Transformer TF700

I pulled the .apk for the DirecTV Remote Pro app from the backup on my Rezound and installed it on the TF700T. I works perfectly. I'll report any others and I find them.

How does it fit your screen???
DTV app is in Google Play.
But to be honest, it is crap next to the app for iPad. Real sweet that iPad DTV app.
I guess they'll come around sooner or later.
i loose respect real quick for a company that boasts iPad apps and craps on Android. Real Quick.

Nexus S and iPad best combo?

I came from an iphone 4 and I'm now loving the nexus and android operating system. I'm looking for a tablet to compliment my phone and can't decide on the iPad or Xoom. I love certain aspects of iOS including speed of browser and the large number of apps and I've already purchased a bunch. Honeycomb also doesn't seem fully developed yet. I figure with nexus and iPad I get the best of both worlds. Thoughts?

Welcome to android. When it comes to tablets I'd advise against either of the two at the moment. The ipad is basically a giant iphone and the xoom is too new. If you want a tablet this month I'd suggest the asus Eee pad transformer, but the market for tablets is catching fire and come august you'll be able to get kalel powered quad cores and ice cream sandwiches.

I have an ipad. Id say go with that because honeycomb doesn't have many apps and although the ipad seems like a giant iPod, its not. I tether the phone with it and its great for browsing and viewing documents and emails and watching movies. Plus I like having one ios device because there are so many apps for it. so i say get the ipad. I love the Combo.

I'm leaning towards an iPad because then I can have apps for either OS. Also have a MacBook Pro at home that integrates with it perfectly.

I'm planning on buying a tablet any day now, and the Xoom was my plan. I want to see why you think an ipad is better based on your description of what you do. Browsing: android 3.0 essentially has chrome on it=win. Viewing documents: I'm not sure of the honeycomb support, but in terms of pdfs adobe is there, and for basic docs google docs has that down. The email/gmail applications on the ipad and xoom are basically identical, and watching movies would seem better since the xoom has a higher res screen (although the ipad is brighter). Yes there are many iOS apps, but what does that matter if you don't use them. Could you name some that the the Xoom doesn't have? I can't see what else you would want that android doesn't have. If you have any in mind let me know, I can still be swayed towards an ipad.
I don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way......or the right way, but I just don't see how that argument is very good.
If you have an android phone I think iPad its nice complement for some games not available on android like asphalt, field runners, plants vs zombies as well as others for your kids and adults.

I couldn't imagine paying for the same apps twice.
I have a gTablet running Vegan 5.1.1, overclocking the Tegra2 to 1.4 ghz. It's really fast, runs the apps I need/want...think LogMeIn Ignition, Quick Office, Need For Speed, Netflix (with a little hack). The gTab cost me $285 with no more need to spend on apps. I don't feel like I need a $50 case for it. An old netbook sleeve works fine. I sync it with iTunes via iSyncr WiFi on my HTPC Mac Mini. the battery lasts for over 8 hours. When I need to get real work done on the go, I take my 11" Macbook Air w/BootCamp Win7 with me instead of the gTab.
I like the iPad/2, but just really don't want to fragment my mobile apps...just doesn't make sense.
...oh, and the Gtab has Honey Comb. Not quite 100%, but rapidly getting there.
I would also say ipad you can purchase/rent movies plus all the apps. I love Google but I'm not a Motorola fan and the Xoom is in my opinion the only viable Android option now. Not to mention there are not that many dedicated 3.1 apps yet.

I also have the Gtablet running vegan 7 ginger edition, while a decent tablet at a great price, the iPad has a much better screen both visually and functionally (better touch response). I suspect the screen on the xoom is equal or better than iPad

I have the Nexus S, an iPad and an Apple TV 2 which i use for Xbmc. I plan to get an android tablet because so far there's nothing major that I have on iOS that Android doesn't have. Splashtop, RTM, Pandora, Netflix, Lastpass, XBMC remote, Tweetdeck are all available on Android. You may have to wait a few months for them to be optimized for tablets, but the same thing happened when I got the iPad

Ahh...then go for what you like the best....sounding like the iPad2. It's the best tablet out right now, depending on your budget.
I have a Nexus S and an ipad 2. I think for now it is a good combo. I am loving Android, but I find the honeycomb tablets with tegra 2 chips a little disappointing. I suggest waiting for the hc hardware to mature before buying.

I wasn't really doing a comparison. I was just saying that I have an ipad and nexus s like the op is thinking about doing. The things I use it for the ipad does perfectly. apps like keynote and penultimate are hard to beat, as is the fluid browsing on the ipad. It just gets the job done for me and I prefer having one ios device since both OS's are nice. Plus the 8-10 hour battery life is nearly impossible to beat. I was just talking about my experience and how I'm satisfied. That's what she said.

Get the Xoom or wait for another Android tablet then.
How can you have flash support on your phone but not on your tablet where you require a full web experience?
The only thing I reckon that's better about the iPad is the fluidity but that that has been countered well in later versions of Android. I used the Xoom for a whole day and I didn't notice any lag or problems like that. Some apps are not tablet optimised but Honeycomb is brand new and Google are really on top of their mobile game these days it seems, so development will come soon.
Most good apps are available on Android or they have their own (sometimes better) counterparts and alternatives to the iOS apps.
Apple has good technology, I just can't understand why they don't want to implement it in their mobile iOS devices.
I never missed flash on my iPhone and after using the Nexus S for two weeks I think I used it once to view a menu at a local restaurant. That's def not a deciding factor for me. Still on the fence just seems redundant to have two Android devices for me. If I get an iPad I can ensure I can access any mobile apps released.

[GAME] MMO Order & Chaos is OUT!!!

I didn't see this posted yet so I figured I'd start the discussion. Order & Chaos by Gameloft has finally been released to the android market. The best way to sum up this game is that it's a nearly identical clone of World of Warcraft. Now you can bring bring a worthy MMO with you!
The game plays great on my HTC Thunderbolt. Unfortunatley the game has a built in restriction that allows the game to only be played over wifi. There is a unrestrictor app on the IOS version which allows it to be played over 3G. Any ideas on how we can get around this?

I've been playing O&C on my iPad2, for a while. It is a rather good WoW clone. It has its bugs.
I had it running on my Epic4G, but it won't run on my EVO 3D. I hope they update it soon, or someone releases a hack.

[Q] Blackberry Playbook?

So, I've acquired some money for my birthday. Best Buy has the Blackberry Playbook for $200US. I was just wondering if anyone owns this and what they think about it?
I realize the limitations with Email and BBM(?). I don't have a blackberry, and I can live without these services for a while.
So yeah, just wondering if this is worth it.
I have used it, it is a nice device. May consider looking at some of the android devices in the range since there are more apps for them. I believe Acer makes a $250 7" tablet. Which is pretty good. If you don't use any apps, then you will be fine with it. Just a suggestion, may want to just give it a look.
Please hit the thank button if I helped any!

I had a chance to play around with it in Best Buy. To be honest, it is one of the most well built tablets I've used. The display is fantastic, runs extremely smooth, and the multitasking is great. This is coming from an iPad 2 owner
As stated above the downside would be limited apps.

I don't think there are any that use the native blaster other than TouchSquid at the moment.
Touchsquid in my opinion is way better than Peel. Depends on which version you get to be expensive, but the only thing I dislike is the splash screen organization. If it could be cleaner, or if I could have access to modify graphics, is be very happy. The actual remote part looks and functions great though. Only problem I've run into is turning off individual devices if say I have my TV, DVD, and blu ray on one profile. Probably just user error though.

so the touchsquid is the only option other then the peel..... touchsquid is so damn expansive x.x;; lol thanks again.
They have a version for the GTab2 that is only $20 see here. The full version is fairly expensive, but if you look at alternative multi-function remotes, basically the Logitech Harmony lineup, you pay considerably more than $50, and it only functions as a remote.
Plus i consider Touchsquid superior due to the fact that it does not need a connection like Peel, and has and extensive database.

Does Touchsquid work on AOSP-based ROM's (AOKP, CM10, etc.)? Peel does not - just curious.
After lots of testing, just for my two cents... I never got Peel or TouchSquid to work consistantly with any of my devices. Reminds me of trying to use the Palm devices as remotes, never really worked that well.
I've heard of others being able to do it just fine though.

Never had an issue with either Peel or TS. Peel just sucks IMHO for a power user.
Touchsquid now supports Sony
The latest version of the Touchsquid remote app works on Sony Tablet S, Xperia S and Xperia Z tablets and the Xperia ZL phone.
The app uses Son's built in UEI database of codes, and can also use codes captured with the Sony' built in capture capabilities.
The Sonys have a powerful IR transmitter that makes aim quite non-critical.
Found a cheaper and better solution
Hey guys,
Been scanning these forums tirelessly for a proper way to annoy my girlfriend when she has the real remote controls...
The touchsquid is really expensive, and for some reason seems to be locked at landscape orientation..
the watchon/peel option doesn't cut it..
But today i found this one:
Smart Remote for Galaxy S4
By Color Tiger
it still has some minor bugs, but as soon as I emailed them I got a reply back in 2 minutes?!?! told them about one of the bugs which they were just uploading a update for on Play...
It looks pretty, works incredible easy and has a boatload of codes that even get my old dell projector and dutch cable company settopbox working....and like I said, support is brilliant so far.
Cheers, Sebas
there are other apps too
you should also check out Smart Remote for Galaxy S4, if your device is supported. much easier to use, and it makes use of the native blaster of th GS4
Does the touch squid app have full support for Roku? I was given a Roku 2sd or 2xd I forget which. The remote is missing, so I can only use it over Ethernet because the Wi-Fi settings are only accessible using an IR remote. well the touch squid remote allow me to set that up including the security key?

Surface or Thinkpad tablet 2?

I own a Surface for a week now and I just saw that Lenovo finally put a date for the release on November 16.
I love the Surface hardware, but I am having some complaints on the software , especially with the mail app not working with the POP3. I am thinking to returned it and buy the lenovo even that it doesn't look as nice but because it runs windows 8 Pro. I'm thinking to install outlook and office so it should run as a PC and I can work without the work around that I am having to do with the Surface.
What are your opinions?

It depends on your preference. But personally I feel that going to the thinkpad just because the mail won't work is very foolish (no offense)

It will not be close in price. Base model with no keyboard is $650. If you want to have a keyboard (which I consider essential for "work" in most cases) it will run you $800+. Also, the combined weight of the device and keyboard is heavier and thicker than the surface with touch or type cover.
I have the same thoughts. I bought the Surface and like it a lot so far. However, it really is a work in progress since the app selection is so weak. If I could also run Windows Desktop apps it would be easier to wait out the lack of apps on RT. I played with a Samsung ATIV SmartPC at Staples and it's also really nice.
I suspect the performance on the store apps will be better while the desktop performance will be passable. My main concern with these Clover Trail based tablets is that I just don't know how well the battery life will be. The Surface battery life is comparable to iPad. They are claiming 10hrs but who really knows. I figured I would play with Surface for a while and if I didn't like it I would return it by the 30 day period.
The Thinkpad is $150 more than the base surface that I got, so I don't think it's a huge price premium. The keyboard is $120 so it's the same as the type keyboard. I expect the Surface Pro will be over $1000, so it's not in the same class for me. If you are going to buy office anyway then the Surface RT is a much better deal.
