Flashing a recovery

Noob question. Is it possible to flash a recovery without going through cmd and connecting to a pc?

I don't think so...after you unlock your phones bootloader you have to flash a recovery thru the pc and after you root you can start flashing custom roms which basically you have to have the phone connected to the pc the whole time during the process.

If you are unlocked and rooted, you should be able to flash CWM recovery through Rom Manager app.

FlashImageGUI app works too... BUT it sounds like OP is preparing to root the device for the first time... in which he will have to use fast boot
@OP fastboot is super easy and fun to learn how to use. Just make sure to enable USB debugging and install the drivers

After you unlock the bootloader you'll have to flash via fastboot to root. Once successfully rooted you can download Rom Manager from Google Play and flash it that way.

Semi Brick

hboot and recovery working but phone stuck at first htc screen, I've done many things, so I think it is semi brick. can anyone help me how can I recover?

Yeah! That worked, thanks but how can I unlock my hboot again? I've used "fastboot oem lock" code.
And do I need to flash not stock 3,33 firmware ?

Can't get to recovery.

So I was going to switch roms on the fly and use flash image gui and found the rom, selected recovery img, and flashed. Success, so i rebooted to recovery. Weird part is, it took me to bootloader. Thinking I hit the wrong thing I moved to recovery and it sends me to fastboot. I assume I did something wrong and have to flash twrp again?

K I got TWRP but everytime I power down the phone, it jumps back into fastboot 5 seconds later. Uhm, What? lol. I messed up bad this time...

Fastboot reboot recovery

That command doesn't work. To execute a fastboot command you need to have the phone in bootloader right?I tried it from fastboot and from bootloader.

Download goo.im and install recovery from the app

That worked! Im in TWRP now. Thanks so much! Worried I wouldn't be able to boot up but I did. Phew!! Dont do that again... ok then. Is there any way to flash the boot img on the fly without fastboot?

Depends on the Rom. A lot of them you just download Rom to sd card then intall through twrp. No img fastboot needed on a lot of roms when using twrp. What img are u trying to flash?

Idk any. I was trying to flash clean rom 5.1 but it always gets stuck on the boot.
In the current ics version of venom rom the camera refuses to work. I can sometimes open the app but is always a black screen. Any ideas?

Hmm I believe that viper 2.4.2 addresed camera issues. To get that version you have to do ota update and it pushes update to your phone ...so if you have viper 2.4.0 just check for update as you would normally

I think you meant 2.4.1.

I did the ota update and I'm running it now. Still no dice with the camera. Starting to get annoying. Can't find anything like this online. Any other ideas?
Edit: I am running elementalx kernel. There's another q in here about the same Rom with the same issue running beastmode kernel. Could this have something to do with it?

Help with unrooting and return to stock

Hi I have a custom recovery and a rooted phone
I have a twrp back up and am using the ROM that came with the phone but it is rooted
With mine being an Asia htc006 there is no up to date ruu which I can download and run
So I need to get this back to stock another way

S-OFF then run an older RUU if there's no RUU with the latest software.

Or you could just tell me some more information.. Hboot, software version, what method are you trying and what exactly is happeneing?

and have super su installed

That method won't work with S-on on 2.14 hboot lol
Whoever made that post should have made that clear.
In any case 2.14 has write protection, stopping you from writting the CID and the exploit for 3.18 doesn't work for non-at&T phones.
You would need to make a linux boot disk and run JET tool to downgrade your hboot and then Super CID, then S-OFF then RUU.
Also, that method is for the HTC ONE and you are in EVITA one xl forums... what phone do you have? You're all over the place -_-

hi
followed the steps from 5 and now my phone got stuck at waiting for device cannot find emmc partions when using linux
i was using a pclinux live 32 bit and everything seemed to be going fine until it tried to wake up the device
now it looks like im stuck in qhsusb_dload mode in windows
cant get the phone to turn on at all now

i loaded ubuntu on earlier and tried to use the evita unbrick
it can see the phone connected to the computer but i just cant seem to write back the files to it
am i completley wasting my time?

Yeah unfortunately that's the case. Either send to htc to have the motherboard replaced for a couple hundred bucks, or get a jtag repair done for much less.

ruu updating??

Ok Im wanting to install some 3.4 kernel roms but needing to update to to the latest hboot and fw I am S-off, Super CID and rooted can I just run the ruu as it is? with out fear of a hard brick? or will I have to revert anything back, Im running slimbean and on 1.14 hboot

If you are s-off you can just run the ruu, flash recovery through fastboot , and then flash a ROM.

make sure you're in fastboot when u run it. and make sure ur computer screen stays on for the whole process and dont run any other programs

SuperCID will stay. You'll just need to flash recovery again, and then either flash superuser to stay stock rooted, or flash a custom ROM.

If running a ruu and s-off no need to flash a recovery. Ruu does it for you and no need to lock bootloader if your s-off as well

Yea thats what I always thought, was just bein sarcastic.. So for the sake of the thread and the O.P. To retain root you would have to flash recovery after running the RUU correct? Because the gentleman that I was originally responding to stated that theres no need to flash recovery, that the RUU does this for us...

Yes you need to flash TWRP again after you run an RUU. The RUU only flashes the stock recovery.

Ya I used that one click tool for XL to get the recovery..now on to further questions instead of making a new thread i decided to reuse this one.. anyways after I got through all that i decided to go ahead and flash some custom roms and ended up with the same results when ever someone sends me pics or videos through text, they will download fine until i connect to a wifi, then i get an error saying "couldn't download now, please try again later. Even when I disconnect from the wifi i get the same error and sometimes will not even get data untill I wipe and re flash but everything works fine with the stock rom.. what could cause this i have tried messing with the data options in settings and nothing works. rom's I have used are
Root box
slim bean
xylon
all of them have acted that same and all use the 3.4 kernel. so I'm stuck on stock until i can figure out whats going on :crying: so any help is greatly appreciated :good:

I've never used WiFi with those ROMs so I'm not sure. But are you sure your apn settings are correct? Also, have you tried toggling airplane mode on and off after disconnecting from WiFi?

Ya tried the apn settings and no go also airplane mode toggle will bring back 4g most of the time but still can't download any mms messages

Faults like this are usually caused by incorrect apn settings but I could be wrong.

Is this on AT&T or a different carrier?
Am I reading correctly, WiFi data works in general, mobile data works in general, just mms is not working?

Yes wifi data and mobile data work but mms won't download with either on custom roms only but will work fine on stock
