you can't, at least until with have no development on a510.
you'll have to wait for a dev to make a custom rom, then ask him to add your device drivers..

Check out this new app for Dongle support. Posted in the 500 forums yesterday. Confirmed working with the a500 ICS roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795591
So it's possible it may work with the 510 and 700 models also,
MD
i tried it with no luck. just gave an error after i plugged in my dongle. was trying it with a sierra usb 306.

I have tried 3 diferent 3G USB dongles on my A510 and none of them works. So I have just swet my SGS2 mobile up to be a wifi hotspot and with 5GB data on my subscription I will have plenty of data for use when im not near a WIFI network I can use. Bluetooth keyboard and 2.5" USB hdd both work with my A510 when I plug them into the adapter that comes with the tablet but 3G USB dongles need to install some sort of software and havent found one yet which supports Android.
So use your mobile as WIFI hotspot if you can

You are Asking for USB Host Connectivity which is still not Possible on any Mobile on earth to Adopt a USB modem for Browsing (Technically possible though)

i can't believe that. i would think most people would just take the sim card out of the modem and put it in their phone, but that's just me.
modem and phone working on different bands?
if you have a laptop, turn the wifi on to adhoc mode. connect the phone there on the adhoc network.
Probably what you are looking for is wireless tether.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
If you are looking to get internet, connect the wifi. But you should have a data plan with your phone, so I doubt what you want to do is to share internet from a usb modem, but I could be crazy.
This post just made what was a really crappy day....better. Thanks to the OP

I was wondering if my carriers usb laptop data card would work on the Viewsonic G-tab for those times I am not around wifi? I would like to know before I purchase one.

Do some digging in the DEV section. I think there is at least one thread where someone was working on that.
I also know that some of the custom kernels (Pershoot, Clemsyn) support 3G, but not sure if that includes USB or just the internal 3g Module of some of the Variants of this tablet (Z-tab, etc)
ok so i have a 3g wireless card i use with my asus eee 1000 and i was wondering if i could plug in a 3g usb into the asus eee pad and be able to use the internet anywhere? i know that you can tether your phone and stuff but i dont have a fancy phone and i dont have a data plan to use my phone as a motem. i was wondering if anyone knew yes or no, or if someone could test that for me and any others out there wondering if this works?
if you have a 3g wireless card why not try it yourself? Or do you not have a transformer?

In most cases unless the the device is just drawing power from usb port, you need a driver.
When you had the unit plugged into your primary device did you or it launch software to get it to work?

OK first, post everything you can about the card here. Name model revision number ect. Someone here might have a solution.
Second do a google search for android and your unit.
Third email the manufacturer of device and Asus asking your question.
If the device can be powered on via USB and not require client software, that is, it acts like a wifi router, then yes it will work.

In the UK you can get something called a MiFi which is owned by three mobile, and its basically a battery operated wifi router. Stick your 3g sim card in it, and it operates as a 5 device infrastructure wifi network which shares the 3g connection. Its currently locked by three but you can by unlocked ones from eBay for about £60... works well
ya i dont have the mifi thing, but i do have my pc that has bluetooth built into it and im thinking if you can tether to your phone to use it for wireless and my pc can tether to the andriod then bingo i can use the wireless thru my comp and bluetooth tether the android device to it and bam wireless anywhere maybe a friend of mine just got it so maybe i can ask her to test that theory out ill let you know if it works
lg 2100ti turbo 3g usb
i have an att Lg 2100ti turbo 3g usb stick and a transfrer. i am intrested in a way to use it for a 3g connection. i saw that someone made a kernal mod to android 3.2 to get a USB ethernet device to work. anyone have any sucess with a 3g modem? Would this be simular to the usb switch for devian / umbuntu? to enable USBSerial?
I was given as a gift, have a WiFi only 7" Asian Android tablet purchased in Singapore.
I understand I can get a USB 3G modem with build in pre-paid SIM to get online for GSM network such as AT&T and T-Mobile.
Can you please tell me what kind of third party modem I should look for and what kind specification? What kind of Android modem drive should I look for?
Thank you.
I understand Verizon users can get a similar USB 3G adapter for laptops to get online.
But those are CDMA modem, correct? So, these adapters has no build-in SIM card.
Where can I get more info on these? Thank you,
Also, can some one with AT&T or T-Mobile subscriber tell me, do you have USB modem adapters for your laptop?
I assume these are 3G digital modem using cellular network, correct? Thank you.

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing today and then here's your post.
There's other people asking the same question if you search the forums, but when I looked last there wasn't much work happening on that idea.
Personally I just tether my phone as a wifi hotspot. That way I don't have to pay for more than one overpriced 3G internet plan. I'm guessing most other users do this or make use of wifi hotspots around town, home, work etc. This probably negates the drive for development of such an app.
I imagine there's some custom code to be done to get it to work, and then for each individual usb modem. Probably not impossible, but not easy either. In Australia they're bringing out a newer version of their usb dongles probably every six months or so? It's hard to keep up.
I'll be interested to see if someone has got it going.
USB modem in Android
thedrcarl, I heard quite a bit about external 3G USB dongle.
This suppose to work with cellular network and when no wifi connection is possible.
In fact, I think there is such 3G USB dongle works in laptops. But what about Android Wifi only tablets?
I'm expecting it should, the dongles should work (Y)
I do found USB dongle adapter for GSM quad frequency modem for cellular network. It has software and drivers to work on Windows laptops. I think this is called Huawei modem USB adapter.
But not software for Android tablets (wifi only) to connect to internet using Cellular network. Does anybody out there get this working?
if you have a usb port, you would buy some huawei models with driver for android:
-huawei e160
e169
e220
e1750
after connecting the modem, you must configure the correct APN for your mobile network and if the sim doesn't recognises, you shuold delete the pin code with a cellphone
Is there a reason you need to buy a USB 3G modem and not just a 3G/4G wifi-hotspot? That would save you the pain of having to have it plugged in and I think they're usually comparably priced, no?
reply to usb modem
yes u can first check in tablet u have usb port u can
if u have miniusb u have to buy a bini usb to usb converter then plug select network apn etc
I think using GSM with SIM both T-Mobile and AT&T have pre-paid usage plan that only charge what you use, not in monthly contract.
Am I correct?
As it has come to my know, the WiFi edition suffering from the weak Wifi signal, so I am wondering if can I use my 3g/4g USB modem through Otg cable instead of the WiFi ?

That is mine ... The insulation of our building is very good so signal of cell phone even suffer to reach some of the rooms, I am wondering if device will really do good job inside the building ...
I have tested it out and it does not work out of the box. You will have to root your tablet and use this guide: http://www.xda-developers.com/connect-any-3g-dongle-to-any-android-tablet/
Good luck
Does nVidia Shield K1 supports 4G USB modem through OTG?
