Unable to set an APN - T-Mobile LG G2x

Edit: It seems like this may help me out, but I can't try it tonight:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23560622&postcount=5
I have to preface this by saying I'm using Hellfire Sandwich, but I can't post in the thread in that developer forum until I make at least ten posts. When using other ROMs, I don't have this problem.
I was unable to access any data. Troubleshooting with a T-Mobile tech over chat, I found out that I had not one APN set in my Mobile Networks settings. The problem is whenever I enter in the settings for an APN and try to save it, I get returned to an empty APN list.
I tried editing a few fields and saving my progress as I went along, but it kept telling me that some fields needed to be filled. When I could finally save, again I was returned to an empty APN list.
I looked through the last 15 pages of the HFS thread and I didn't see any mention of APNs.

I had the same issue with version1.8. It seemed to correct itself after a while but sounds like you have had this issue a while too. I suppose you have rebooted a few times since you flashed and I also suppose that you have reset the APN to default. Have you tried a factory reset? If that doesn't work then you may have to reflash, maybe even redownload the ROM.

It has been my experience that there are almost always random data drops on these custom g2x roms. I could never pinpoint the source so I can't really help you there...
What usually works to get back data for me is a simple reboot or two.

This same problem bothers me still. I have run 4 different ICS ROMs and they all have lost the APN randomly throughout the day. True a reboot or two gets them back, but it is really annoying at times. Searching the forums will give you the result that that you need to "Reset defaults" in the APN list. This process takes anywhere between 1 minutes and forever. The official, word is wait however long it takes for the reset to work. But I have waited over 30 minutes before and just let me phone sit on my desk with no APN showing back up.
Very strange indeed. I'm not even sure how to track the problem down. I know logcat provides good information but I'm not familiar with how to utilize it yet. I would imagine it would show the errors of when a program needs to use data and you have lost it, but not sure it will log HOW you lost the data connection to begin with.

I suppose this is why the developer of HFS still lists in his signature that he's using a gingerbread based ROM.

APN disappeared. No data and can't add one (Cyanogenmod 7.0 Nightly)

I flashed cm7 nightly 47 and everything was fine until I woke up this morning and had no mobile data. I checked the APN settings and found nothing there. When I tried to add one manually it disappears when I click the save button.
Anyone else have this problem? Do I need to do a factory reset and try again?

How about you look through the cm7 thread... This has been a known bug with known solutions with many roms. The solutions are posted all over the development section.

@charlie
Thanks for the advice but it didn't work.
I have installed CM7.1 RC 1.5 Android 2.3.5 on my Motorola defy.
When I first flashed it to CM7.1 RC1 the apn settings were there and internet was working properly.
but i did something with the vpn setting (nothing much and that doesn't seem to be the reason) the apn settings disappeared and can't add one.
So what you are saying is you do not have a g2x you have a Motorola defy is that correct? If so then you should try posting in that phones fourm. Or aother Motorola forum that iS simmilar to the defy. Maybe there is something that us g2x owners don't know about ha know what I am saying man. I have the same exact problem. A hard reboot works perfectly for me every time. Sorry I can't help you out anymore.
APN Settings Lost, No Data on G2x
Okay, so I see how this thread was left off...however I actually do have this same issue with the G2X. I have been searching for hours all last night and this morning and cannot find a fix for it.
I installed CM7 on my phone (followed all of the directions as far as factory data/reset, clearing cache, etc.). The first time I started it up it appeared that the Data Network was properly working as it displayed an "H" up top. It was when I rebooted the phone that the data went away and there is nothing in the APN settings, plus it doesn't let me save anything in there...I tried...about 10 times.
So.......I went back to the Nandroid backup that I made and all was well, thankfully at least. After doing so I tried installing the CM7 again. The data did not come back like last time on the first boot with CM7. So I went ahead AGAIN and installed the Nandroid backup...all was well once again. I then tried CM7 again, and the data was there, only on the first startup. I rebooted the phone and it was once again gone!
I found this link http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/30085-what-am-i-doing-wrong/ and thought that I was on to something with the RIL settings, I ran the app and it did say that the Basebands didn't match...I ran the program, and it still doesn't work at all.
I am just at a complete dead end right now and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here are the details;
G2X P999
Running CM7 Nightly (Tried both builds 143 AND 144)
Baseband is the JUL 15 2001 one
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank so much.
I really hope this problem gets fixed soon! It would make all 2.3.5 ROMs perfect, including MIUI.
Clear Dialer Storage with Titanium Backup
I had the same problem when moving to Oxygen 2.2.2
I reinstalled again and the apn settings were there and working.
I reverted my settings with Titanium Backup and the apn settings vanished and would not let me add them again.
I Cleared the [SMS MMS APM] Dialer Storage with Titanium Backup then rebooted.
The apn settings appeared again.
Good luck
Have you tried using APN backup from the market to change things?

[Q] Mobile AP and texting problems

My wife's Infuse was running Serendipity VII. She was having some minor problems with it (such as the camera's flash not working consistently) and some apps crashing. So we decided to go with Zeus. Then the problems really started pouring on.
I flashed Zeus without doing a factory reset. I just wiped the cache partition and the Davlik cache. It was OK for a day or two, then it started misbehaving. More crashes, sluggish, when she sent a text message she'd get a "Message not sent" error (so she'd keep trying until she didn't get the error, meanwhile every attempt was actually being sent so people were getting her texts multiple times), Mobile AP would turn itself off (we do pay for the Mobile AP plan with AT&T).
So I did a factory reset/wipe user data, wiped the cache areas, and re-flashed Zeus. Restored everything with Titanium Backup. No change in behavior.
So, I used Odin to flash back to stock UCKD5 (using this). Things were OK for a day or so except that the time was displaying UTC time instead of local time. (I started another thread about that.) Then, the mobile AP started shutting off again, now with a message saying we don't have a Mobile AP plan. But we do. I flashed a new modem (UCKL2) last night hoping that would clear up both issues. It fixed the time problem, but Mobile AP is still saying we don't have a plan. And now she's also getting the "message not sent" error again when sending text messages (although the messages ARE being sent).
Any ideas on what the heck happened and what I could do to get her going again? Using the "Mobile AP" is essential as it is our only home internet connection (no cable or DSL available and we ditched satellite a few months back) and our kids are enrolled in an online school.
Would flashing another ROM clear things up? Maybe try stock again with the "ultimate unbrick" package or the Heimdall one? Or maybe try Zeus again? Or CatyRom?
I reflashed to stock again using ultimate unbrick. (Wiped cache, factory reset, Odin to stock.) Mobile AP gave same errors. Texting seemed fine, but with Mobile AP not working I didn't test it long. Flashed Zeus again (Rooted, installed CWM, wiped cache, factory reset, formatted internal SD, installed the Zeus zip, rebooted and waited about 15 minutes before touching it.)
Mobile AP is fine (for now anyway) but texting is flaky. Some texts go through, but most don't. She just gets an error saying "Message not sent."
Any ideas out there???

Idk..maybe you need and apn change.
Go to settings. Wireless. Apn.
Menu to bring up 2 stock apn.
create a new one. it's around..check my sigs line. After you write it in, menu and save. Select the new apn.
Reboot
Found the APN info in the first link. Thanks! Does the name matter? I noticed it is "AT&T WAP" on my Captivate but "AT&T 310 410" on her Infuse.

no..you can call it what you want.
HeathicusF's 310 410
but just for s&g's, I would call it "AT&T 310 410"
Did it fix your issue?
I haven't made any APN changes yet. She uninstalled GoSMS (which had been restored with TiBu) and reinstalled it from the market. That was a "grasping at straws" solution since the problem was happening in both GoSMS and he stock SMS application. So far, no problems. But there have been other little spans of time with no problems then it would start acting up again. So I'm just keeping an eye on it right now. There are some differences between her APN settings and the ones listed, but I don't want to change anything if it really is working now.
OK she has narrowed it down to a problem with long text messages. Anything over 160 characters will fail. That is why she thought it was flaky and working for a while each time we made a change. She'd send a lot of short "testing" type messages, which would go through and she would think everything was good. Then eventually she would write a long "real" message and it would fail and she would think the problem had "returned". Not having any problems like that before, she never associated the problem with the message length.
Based on some quick research, I think that is a modem problem.
If we can fix this issue, she'll be all good again.

lol..click on my sigs -link #1. Read post #2.
it has to do with a modem ucki3.
She has UCKL2.
EDIT: I misunderstood and thought you were saying the problem was with the UCKI3 modem. Should have looked at that post you pointed me to first. I see now that UCKL2 is the problem and UCKI3 is the solution.

[Q] Phone can't send calls or texts

So first things first, I was running Synergy r73 fine for a few days, beautifully even.
Then today out of the blue without changing anything, my phone had some brief freezing issues and then I could no longer send texts or outgoing calls. I am still receiving texts, and my data connections work perfectly, but when I try to send a message I just get a "failed" notification a few seconds later. When trying to call out I just get nothing and then the call ends after 20 seconds or so.
I tried a battery pull, sim reseating, data/cache reset, and I even used ODIN to go back to the stock VRALHD rom. Still having the same problem.
I can't call Verizon support until tomorrow and all the retail stores in the county close on Sundays, so I figured posting here in the meantime couldn't hurt.
I had the same exact issue and had to go all the way back to VRALF2, following the stickied guide, and once I did that I had to dial the reprovision code. I can't remember the code off of the top of my head but it is posted all over the place. I would try that first and if it doesn't work then go all the way back stock. Also get the Phone Info app, open it and go into Device information and on the little drop down box make sure LTE/CDMA/EvDO is selected. Do those two things and see if that doesn't solve the problem, and if not then you may have to go all the way back to the first stock ROM like I did, hopefully you won't though!
Sent by one of my many Anthromorphic Personifications
I checked the radio mode with the phone info app and it's what it should be. I guess I'll be doing another odin flash. Hope it works
EDIT: Going back to the older stock flash didn't work either, even after doing the reprovision code :-/
I guess I'll be making a trip to the store tomorrow
New phone is in and working perfectly. I do miss some of the aspects of the Synergy mod, but now I'm hesitant to re-rom it. Is it even remotely possible that rooting and installing a rom can cause this issue to happen several days after installing?
In phone info make sure it is set to LTE/CDMA/EVDO

[Help] Google Now network errors

I'm having some serious problems with Google Now.
About a month ago, maybe a little more, I noticed Google Now wasn't updating anymore. I had a card at the top that said "No internet connection. Content last updated x days ago." Weird, because I hadn't done anything different or noticed any other changes. Since then, I've tried everything to get it fixed. Whenever I first open the app after a clean flash, the initial "accept these things" comes up, but when I hit "Yes, I'm in," I get a toast notification saying "Network error. Check your network connections and try again." My connections are definitely working, as every other app works. I've tried on wifi and 3g/4g. Clearing app cache/data. Wiping system/data/caches, reinstalling. Tried 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, stock, and TW. Tried multiple gapps. Tried different Gmail accounts. All do the exact same thing.
I've done quite a bit of research on the issue, and have come up empty so far. This suggested reviewing my connected apps and removing old or unnecessary ones. Nope. This and this suggested deleting card preferences, which seemed to work for a lot of people. Not me. I tried that, but got a toast: "Failed to turn off cards due to a network error. Check your network connection and try again." Some other place I can't find anymore mentioned checking my wifi proxy. Nothing wrong there though. The only thing yet to try that I can think of is a full-wipe odin, and I'm hoping to avoid that.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar or have any advice?
TL;DR Getting network errors for Google Now, even though my network is fine. Wiped, tried multiple ROMs, even multiple Gmail accounts. Still same error.
Hi,
did you ever get this issue resolved? I have tried everything too and still can't use google now. please help if you resolved this issue. thanks!

Pixel dumps SMSC upon restart

So, this is bit of a new issue, one I've not had before. I wish Hangouts/Messenger still had the Service Center ID in the settings in order to fix this, but, in the long/short run...
I unboxed my pixel and put my SIM in, started the phone. LTE/UMTS work perfect, locked right on, good signal/speeds, can place/receive calls, all is right in the world? I noticed after an hour I hadn't received any texts, and after feeling very unimportant, I sent a SMS to a friend, and got an immediate error. Out of curiosity, I went into the INFO settings (*#*#3646#*#*) and went into the SMSC settings. pressed refresh, which, populated an error. I manually typed mine, hit update, went back to hangouts, and voila!
The next day, I restarted the phone ( I like to do this often. I am also this user who actually turns their phone off from time to time ) and noticed upon restart, the problem resurfaced, like as if I never updated it to begin with.
Is this occurring with anyone else? I've yet to see a phone completely dump it. I'd prefer not to download another SMS application really, but, it's just inconvenient those few times I do restart it that I lose that SMSC number...
I'm having the problem as well but still haven't been able to fix it with the same procedure you did. It's driving me nuts.
UPDATE EDIT: I just realized the Wifi is interfering with it. As soon as I turned off the wifi, the txt would go out.
I'm having this same issue. I've contacted support about it, but haven't gotten a response yet (they said I would have an update yesterday).
If I manually put the SMSC in, and then Update, I can send texts briefly, but eventually I start getting an error 38 instead. A reboot and then manually entering the SMSC again allows me to send texts again.

I'm curious if setting your mobile data to always-on would be a functional workaround to help until they can get this fixed for real. Have you tried that?
