[review] 25$ battery/charger/dock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hello xda Skyrocketeers! I got fedup with my batterylife here is my attempt at fixing that.
i spent under 25$ total w/shipping
I ordered this battery
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-3850mAh...ccessories&hash=item3cc3d31584#ht_2519wt_1037
this dock
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:eek:C:CA:3160
and this extra charger
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170875980974
My intentions were
-have a longer lasting battery as daily driver
-to have an external charger for my extra battery (stock batter now used for extended trips where one would need an extra)
-and a dock for beside *i use the desk clock
ordering-
all went smoothly, I ordered through ebay using paypal
shipping-
I placed my order on the 10th of the month and received the first two packages on the 19th
and the last on the 23rd shipping from china to canada
THE DOCK
PROS
I went with white, looks great
minimalistic footprint
tiny grips keep it seated on desk/table
firm input
can still use phone with no restrictions
]CONS
phone fit without rubber but felt loose
had to modify rubber grommet to fit snug
also had to modify rubber to fit the extended battery.
no included usb cord
rubber peice falls out when phone is taken our (ended up glueing it in)
BATTERY CHARGER
pros:... none really.. i guess it charges my stock battery..
heres why
slow charging, (even did the pin mod to it) still slow
does not fit extended battery as it mounts BACKWARS gesh
also says its for an infuse *when clearly on ebay it said skyrocket.
BATTERY
this what you all wanted to see.
but results will be up tuesday at midnight after a full days usage
so far its charging well. i got it at 60%
case feels nice in the hands. its tapered from bottom to top and juts strauight down *if face phone down* just before the speaker. its firm to remove *much more than stock* and gives you a nice little finger rest while typing. video soon.

Looking forward to hear about the battery. I'd love a bigger one but I'm concerned about giving up my case.

Hyperion 3500mAh Extended Battery and Cover

I got the Hyperion Samsung Droid Charge i510 3500mAh Extended Battery from Amazon 5 days ago and have been training the battery; draining it to shutdown before charging it again.
I did initialize the battery statistics once it's fully charged the first time. It takes about 3 hours to charge the battery from 99% empty (it shuts down at 1%). It really is a hassle to do one cycle of charging and discharging with this battery. lol. I ended up streaming War and Peace movie off Netflix running on wifi or 4G to discharge whatever juice is left on the battery. So far, the battery capacity seems to continue increasing after each battery training cycle.
I'm happy with it. On the last cycle, I got 25 hours and 15 minutes. YMMV.
The Hyperion Extended Battery Silicone Case is in the mail.
Thanks for the info just got mines, about to order the case, please once you receive the case post pics..

I have two different extended batteries & I ordered that POS Hyperion case.
The case is very chintzy & doesn't fit either battery setup correctly.
On one battery it is too small & with the other it is loose & sloppy.
~John
I finally got the Hyperion silicone case in the mail.
Chinzy is not the word to describe it. More like primitive, it's made out of the same material the army made the chemical warfare gas masks with, back in the 50's. lol. Anyway, I've never seen a warfare gas mask. But it sure looks so primitive. With the cases these days moving towards TPU material, this Hyperion case is so "5 years ago".
First, the minuses:
The cutout edges in the front and on the camera opening, as you can see on the pictures, are not tight, which is to be expected of a case with this material. Not flapping, but it's not as firm as the edges on a TPU case.
The button profiles are practically indecipherable to touch. You can't feel your way to find the buttons unless you've already been accustomed to their locations.
It's a dirt and dust magnet. I'm sure if you take it to the beach, it'll bring back a pocketful of sand home with you, too. Pocket lints love to stick all over it. I've read it somewhere that this silicone material, as a result of its 'magnetic personality', will eventually create scratches on the covered surface of your phone, even on the metal edges, if you let the dirt build up inside.
Take your pocket knife and start carving the micro usb cutout for it is simply not big enough to serve its purpose. I've tried many different micro usb cables and none of them will fit through the cutout.
The pluses:
It's made for Hyperion's extended battery cover, so it fits snugly onto the back of the phone, onto the Hyperion-brand extended battery cover and to all four sides and four corners. Because of the curves and bulges specific to an extended battery cover, I seriously doubt if this case will fit as well on other brands' extended battery covers.
It effectively hides the cheap-looking plastic battery cover, as long as you don't mind carrying something that has the appearance of a rubbery-looking bar of soap in your pocket.
It definitely gives the positive, sure-grip feel when you're holding your phone, unlike when you're grasping the bare and slippery, cheap-looking plastic extended battery cover that bears the same brand name.
All things considered, I really have no choice but to keep it. Enjoy the pictures.
Anybody got a link to the battery and case. How much are they? Shipping expensive
Edit....found it. Ordered the battery and the case last night
just bought the battery. expectations are high.
Update:
the silicone case has stretched considerably where it becomes too sloppy. Tossed it about about a month ago. Since then, the thin plastic cover that came with the extended battery had been exposed and has gotten more cosmetic scratches. The plastic cover later developed a tiny crack on one of the top corner that continued to grow longer until it cracked completely clear to the camera window.
Bought the OEM extended battery cover to replace the unusable Hyperion extended battery cover. The quality of the OEM extended battery cover is outstanding, it's made out of a much more rigid material, it's thicker and the surface finish superb and much more durable compared to the Hyperion's, and it's more resistant to scratches. I'm very happy with it. From comparing the OEM 2600mAH extended battery, the Hyperion battery is about 2-3mm thinner. So too be safe, i placed a few layers of folded paper between battery and my new cover.

It continues to perform well.

How long does it last? What kind of usage do you do?
I've been pretty happy with this battery too. I spend a lot of my day in a location with little or zero signal, and I still get 18-20 hours out of the battery with moderate levels of use.
I do agree that the default Hyperion case isn't the greatest. I bought the OEM extended battery case too and it's much better.
As a side note, Hyperion's customer service is amazing. My battery case arrived cracked in half, but with no questions asked they sent a replacement for not only the case - the battery too!

Where, by chance, did you buy the OEM extended battery cover? I've not yet been able to find a reputable [appearing] site that has it in stock.

I just got an extended battery for my charge, its the trexcell extended battery the other one that amazon sells and I just wanted to say its working great. I'm still conditioning the battery but its very promising, my phone has been up for 12 hr. Now and it down to 40%... already much more battery life than stock battery

It grows on you
I've had the ext batt and cover (Hyperion) for few months and I loved the batt right off the bat but the cover took me a bit.
Ted A makes some excellent points nice write up
Here are a few more
+ I've got big hands (I can palm a medicine ball lol) and the extended bump along with the grabby case make handling the phone much easier. Stock its like trying to hold a wet watermelon seed.
When setting on a smooth surface and using the screen (playing a game mostly) it doesnt fly across the table and onto the floor, the smoother the surface the grippier it is.
I left the phone on my lap and jumped out of my truck. It did a half gainer onto the asphalt with absolutely no damage. Thank you Hyperion.
- It doesnt fit in any car or desk cradles that I've tried Guess thats par for the course.
As Ted said the physical buttons are covered and the small indents are undetectable at least by my sausage fingers. It also negates the back lighting on the buttons.
The grip turns it into a tug of war sometimes when it comes time to get it out of your pocket, especially when sitting down. The neighbors might think your playing a violent game of pocket pool and tell the kids "get inside now"
All in all I wouldnt give up either, I forgot the cover at home one day and realized how good of a job it does. I handled the phone very carefully the extra weight and my track record for smashing small expensive and delicate things made me uneasy. Once you get used to it you wont want to go without.
Got the oem extended cover in today [ https://www.techiewarehouse.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SSA-EBC-994EBZB-J022 ] and I must say its much much better than the after market cover that comes with the extended battery. Every place I looked were sold out, the site there is the only place I could find... after Googling for ever, its in stock as of the time of this post

Holey Schmidt!
I can never leave anything alone/stock, sometimes it works sometimes I have to throw it away before anybody sees how bad I screwed up a perfectly good ________ you fill in the blank.
Keeping up with tradition I got tired of not being able to tell what button was what when I had my case on my phone. So I broke out my trusty paper hole puncher and carefully punched out holes were the symbols were on my phone case....see pic. Works grrrrreat! I can tell which button is which even with my mechanics gloves on. Plus you can now see the buttons when they light up. If anyone is daring enough to try this make sure you clip the holes on the high side (best if the top of the hole is touching the line at the top of the button. The buttons centers are a little higher than the markings on the case.
I also have a 3500mAh extended battery and the life on it is awful. I do have med-heavy usage on it, but there is no way it should only last 6 hours or so... Any suggestions or is it probably some crap battery?

I'd recalibrate your battery first there is a sticky about it if I'm not misstaken do a search if you can't find it.
Which battery do you use? I want one that will work legitimately. I can't stand only having 6 hours on a 3500mAh battery or any batter for that matter! Thanks!

I have the trexcell 3500mah brand off Amazon, its works great as long as you condition the battery as the instructions say. My phone says it has 30.52hr when the battery its fully charged. That if you don't touch the phone at all, but it will last me 12 -15hr with normal use.

Battery cases ie. Powerskin

Any experience with the powerskin? Any other alternatives? I really am looking for a case with extra battery and not just extra batteries or a different back cover. I like the idea of a case/battery combo.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
I know some people who use it and it works for them but a lot of the reviews say it stops charging after a few months...
For the same price you can get the sedio 3800mah battery (60$ ) and then get the case for the extended battery also from sedio (20$ ) which might be a little bit more reliable..
Iirc, the phone won't deep sleep with the powerskin. You don't even need a battery that big. Nexus extended is far more than enough. You don't need one at all. I run 24 hours plus on stock with over 5 hours screen on, gtalk and text all day, emails, fb, weather, words with friends, stream music, and more.
With the nexus extended I'd need a new cover? If so, are there cases that accomdate for the new back cover?

That battery is awesome. I've had it for two days now. I am a moderate to heavy phone user, and it is sitting at 43% after 15 hours of being unplugged. 40% of that is screen time.
I had the power skin, worked great for awhile but now the USB cord on the bottom to connect to the phone stopped working. I could probably have it serviced under warranty but....yeah don't want to bother it wasn't that good
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I am on my 4th Powerskin for my SR in less than two months. They either die and stop working or the charging port gets worn down so it only makes contact when you hold it and put pressure on it. It is realistically about an extra 75% added to your battery, but your phone uses it to stay 100% charged so none of your battery saving features work. Would recommend a larger replacement battery over a case battery. I ended up buying extra andido batteries off amazon and plan on giving that a try over this.
I bought it at AT&T so they keep giving me replacements but will not give me a refund.
Do not recommend.
On my 2nd powerskin and it along with the 1st one stopped recharging......waste of time. Plus it makes it bulky.
I went through two of them. The last one overheated my phone and killed it :-( at&t gave me a new phone and I changed to an otter box.

My Anker 5200mAh Battery Review and Info

I purchased the Anker 5200mAh Battery from Amazon located here sadly it looks like it has sold out at the time of writing this but i would assume it will return so i will post my review.
i received the battery last night at gave it a full charge at then unplugged it at 7:30pm EST and i will leave it uncharged until it dies to see the results.
1st Impressions:
1. it looks huge and it adds weight. i threw it in the scale and it weighed in at 6.5oz with battery and provided back cover
2. the fit and finish of the back cover is as nice in every way as the stock except that it does not match exactly the stock color. since i have the black S4 the slightly different color added no damage to the look of the phone with the metal band separating the back from the black front. it really looks right.
3. the back cover is a little slick to the touch and if this was going to be my daily driver i would want to figure out a way with either a possible cover that fit it or some kind of application to give it a little more grip. this will not be a daily driver though and so i find it to be no big deal.
4. NFC worked just fine for me. i sent a contact to another NFC phone with no issues.
Here are some pics:

I supposed to be getting Anker 5200 mAh as well and will review it sometime next week, along with S4 I'm waiting for now. Btw, while I'm waiting, I asked Anker for dimensions on how much does it adds to thickness and got this picture. Just by looking at the picture itself, it doesn't look too bad.

great if it works i will order one. thanks
I'm happy with mine, too. 5.5 hours and still 30% left.
Also, I like the curved back and corners. Fits more comfortably in the hand. I would have been happy with a 3500 mAh battery.
Got my case today!
It came in this morning.
It fits perfectly on the extended case. Grip is good. Maybe white is not the best color of choice as it gets dirty easily.
Unlike the buttons on the S3 version of the case, they cut holes where the buttons are located making it easy to press the power and volume keys.
Can anyone report if the white tpu case is getting dirty easily?

So far i had it on all day. It does get a little dirty but not too bad

sweet looking case!!! Thanks for the pictures. I'm gonna have to order mine now... I have the Anker two battery pack with the external charger but it's the stock 2600mAh batteries and while it's nice to be able to swap for a charged battery I can burn through them still in a day... I didn't want to get this case yet till they had something for a case of but the honey comb looks sweet so I'll probably go ahead and order mine too.
that case makes the phone look huge. 5 hours of screen time is awesome if only the stock battery could do that while maintaining a slim profile...

This is the best battery I have ever had out of all the others I have looked at and tried and I've had bad ones and good ones even leaky ones but this one comes out on top. Sure it has its flaws but so does any product, its doesn't feel flimsy or cheap and offers a good value for anyone looking for a replacement battery. Would I recommend this to my friends heck yea in fact I recommend everyone looking for a replacement to look at one of these and with the price and free shipping its a steal. I am sorry for the focusing it was taken with another fascinate the best camera I have.
I ordered mine from tmart though the product can be located elsewhere shipping was fantastic and packaging was great came unharmed.:highfive:

Nice review brad, I have multiple batteries for my fassy, stock, a Samsung Epic 4g 1800 ( fits perfectly) 2 ANKER 1800 ( came with charger) and also the 3500 which you reviewed. Mine didn't come with a charger though but they will fit in my Anker charger. They make phone fatter but its OK. I wish I could find a silicon cover for the back though. Other than that I'm very pleased with them.

Powerbank (Case with battery)

Well Saturday I finally gave up hoping my battery would actually last more than a day on my Z, bit the bullet and purchased off of Amazon a Powerbank Case for the phone.
I opted for the 4200MaH version and must say... WOW!
My battery life has doubled with the case, plus a little extra.
It arrived yesterday via courier and I tried it out at work today (my job often leaves me with no means to charge my ever dying battery)
So Pros...
Adds another batteries worth of life and a little extra.
Fits snugly.
Cheap at £17.99.
Has a stand on the rear for watching videos.
Doesn't interfere with any ports aside from the charger port.
Can charge the handset via the mains still in the case.
But... Cons...
It's bulky. I mean fat, adds probably 3 times the weight of the handset to the mix.
Can't use a dock with the case on.
Can't use the usb with the case on.
Doesn't come colour matched.
Gets hot, very hot.
OVERALL.
8/10 from me. It's a useful accessory for those who need extra power like me when out and about but adds a significant bulk to the handset.
Theres my opinion. Feel free to build your own.

Love mine so far. I am actually going to carry it with me as a case just for when my battery is low and use a small case for normal use.
