TF700 with TF200 dock? - Asus Transformer TF700

Is the 700 compatable with the 200 dock? Did some light cruising through the forums, few mentions of the 700 dock having less battery life but didnt notice anything saying if the two were compatable. Has anyone tried this? Results?

Scratch that, just found my answer.

Infact, I received by factory combo with Infinity TF700T pad and Docking station. The docking station model is T200.

[Q] Does the Dock come with a own charger?

Hi @all!
I was finally able to order an Eee Pad Transformer out of UK. It should arrive in the next days
Now as you perhaps know, the grid in Germany is different from the one in the UK and I'll have to use a travelling adapter or USB to charge the Transformer. No problem so far, but in the long run it's still a little cumbersome...
So do you guys know if the docking station comes with an extra charger/power supply? That would be cool because I'll order that one in Germany and I wouldn't have to use the travelling adapter all the time.
Additionally, does anyone know what the docking station will contain besides the keyboard?
Regards

Just to clarify - it's not the "grid" that is different in Germany; both have ~220-240 V. It's the outlets that are different. Definitely get a charger since I read that USB charging takes forever!

@funnycreature: thx for clarifying, that's what I wanted to say And yes I already read that charging via USB is a pain in the @ss. I already have an adapter, I just want to know if the docking station'll come with another one when I buy it in Germany.
@Magnesus and psinno:
Ebay First I bought via borderlinx by a subsidiary from Comet (don't know the name right now since I'm at work) but they cancelled my order because they ran out of stock (as well as Comet i think).
But I was lucky and got the only one in ebay that was shipped from UK. All others are from Taiwan right now, meaning very high custom fees and such crap.
I think how it works is that you just use the adapter and usb cable that came with your eee pad, and that plugs into the keyboard dock. And then obviously you put the tablet into the dock to charge up the main pad. I dont think there is an extra charger involved. So in your situation you will just need a normal UK>euro adapter. I doubt anyone other than reviewers have the keyboard dock yet, but from the videos/pictures I've seen this is how it seems to work.

Yeah that's what I guessed, too. Too bad though... Perhaps I'll buy the charger serparately to save me the adapter stuff.
Thx for clarifiing!
Now something different: Can I charge my Transformer with an X10 USB->supply adapter (EP-700)? Output is 5V, 700mA, the Transformer needs 15V, 1.2A. Don't really know how this would affect the device, will it just charge slower or will it damage my battery?

It will charge it much, much slower. That output is basically the same as a usb port from a computer.

It's a little higher I don't care about the speed, but the Transformer I bought is completely drained and USB driver fails to install. And since the original charger doesn't work with German power supplies, I need to charge it otherwise. Thx!

It's not a little higher in voltage though, which is what matters. The lower the voltage difference, the less current flow.
First the power supply needs to be a high enough voltage, but not too high to where the internal circuitry cannot handle it. Then the current value is how much current the charger can supply. This generally matters most with something that is hooked up 100% of the time, like a desktop, or a laptop which you are running from the charger.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with German power. It should be the same as adapting to any European supply, just need a physical adapter.
A picture is worth a thousand words so... pic from the manual attached.

Charge Tablet and Dock at the same time?

I'm looking at getting either the 300 or 700, and just wondering, if I dock the tablet on the keyboard and plug in the charger, will it charge the tablet and the keyboard?
I read the user manual and it said it would not charge the tablet only the dock
Well, that's dumb. What's the point in getting the dock if you have to charge them separately?

The tablet charges from the dock when it's being used...so I would think that it would charge both. Not sure how, but they wouldn't make you charge separately

When you charge the dock (with tablet) attached both dock and tablet are charged. Charger charges the dock and dock charges the tablet.

Gotcha.
Thanks. I downloaded the user manual and the manual confused me to indicate I can't charge the tablet while docked.
Very strange meaning and it appears the dock doesn't have an extra charger cable, so it would take forever to charge the dock and tablet.
Again thanks for clarifying.
Now, I have tested the 300 and it looked great playing one of my videos that ran full hd. which really surprised me because I expected some lag time with the video, but it worked great.
Would you get the 300 or wait for the 700?
That's hard to tell, because our usage might be different from yours. You should ask yourself if you really have a use for the higher definition of the TF700's screen -- if you do, then pick the TF700. If you don't, then the decision is going to be a lot harder, since the TF700 doesn't really provide another ultimate reason to go for it when compared to the TF300. The keyboard's the same, battery life is about the same (yes, the Infinity will run a bit longer, but not so much that you'd take the hit for only that aspect), ICS version is the same, and custom ROMs for the TF300 are available...

External/Emergency Battery

I was wondering if anyone uses any of those emergency charger... What do you think is the best one to pair up with the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity? I was thinking of getting Sanyo's Eneloop Mobile Booster.Any more suggestion?

I've used them on phones before, but not one for my tf700 yet. Hope to soon once some options are out there that have been proven. I like choices.
I purchased the ZaggSparq 2.0 (it was on sale for 50% off a couple weeks ago):

It is $100, but I got it for $50. I haven't actually tried it yet, but I'll give it a go tonight and report back.

Check out my review/mod for the Anker battery. On Amazon for $59 and it works wonders, can be used for all sorts of devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29330531
I use the AnkerĀ® Astro2 Dual USB Output 8400mAh External Battery Pack. The original transformer power supply uses a variable charger I believe that uses up to 12v/2.1 A to charge your device (it uses the max when your tablet has low battery life and less when it is near capacity).
My device is limited to 5V on either the 600mAmp or 2 Amp USB port. The tablet does not show itself as charging though when I use the device but my anker device blinks to show that it is charging. I turned my tablet off and left the charger in and the tablet gained a couple of percentage points of battery life after a few minutes.
I didn't know that the larger version could do 9 and 12V, feel like a bonehead for not checking. I got the 8400mAH version because I only wanted my charger to be about the size of my phone at max size otherwise I feel that the portability of the device is compromised (only have so much room in my pockets/bags).
If anyone else understands how charging works, I'd appreciate it if they could explain to me how using only 5v/2Amps would affect my TF700 infinity battery. Thanks.

Unfortunately 5v just isn't enough voltage to trigger charging (9v/2a isn't even enough). How long have you had your battery? Amazon has a good return policy, might be able to send it back.

Thanks for confirming. Sucks I bought the wrong one but at least the alternative is only a few bucks cheaper.
Welp, the Zagg Sparq 2.0 isn't even recognized on the tablet or with the dock. :/ Seems there's not enough output.
It works fine for my Samsung Galaxy S III, though.

Weird Charger Problem

I purchased a seperate charger from NewEgg computing for my Transformer. It is not a Asus charger, but is another manufacturr's charger which has the cable hard wired in to the power brick so it is only a charger. I am using EOS 4 and have discovered that if I connect this charger to my unit and try to use the unit it becomes unresponsive. Essentially unusable. Has anyone else had a similar experience with non Asus chargers??? The Asus charger works fine.
Dude. What do you think your problem is? Seriously.

Dude,
Seriously, I thought it was the charger until I had it replaced. Second one did the same thing. While it is possible (though less likely) that both have an issue, before I get into a costly RMA loop, I wanted to see if anyone had experienced anything similar with the ROM, other non stock ROMS, or non Asus chargers. So, Anyone???
Thanks!
What projeto56 was telling you is to get a genuine asus charger. New. Not from the bargain basement. Or borrow a WORKING one.
Good luck
I bought a 7-8$ one off ebay and it works as well as the original one. Just make sure it says it's compatible for the tf101, there are plenty of cheap ones. I keep the good one at home and the cheap one at the office.
Seriously, it has nothing to do with your ROM. Probably some pin incompatibility or maybe it's shorting your connector. Which could screw up your tablet.
I really recommend you to return it, get your money back, and get a original Asus charger.

[Q] Dock not charging but working fine when docked

My TF201/TF700 dock does not charge at all, it shows 0% when docked. The keyboard and touchpad works fine when docked. The orange colour LED blinks when docked but when undocked no light indication when charger is connected. The same charger works fine as it is charging my tablet. I can even access the tablet with fast boot through the dock so the connections are fine but it will just not charge. My doubt is with the dock firmware (DOCK-EC20N-0207). My TF700 is unlocked and running CROMi-X 5.3 - 10.6.1.27.5 ww DEODEX. Any sugestions

Sounds like a battery or charging unit fault.
Yes, looks like the battery is dead. Have you left it at 0% without charging for an extended time? Li-ion batteries don't like that at all - once discharged below a certain level they can become unstable, so maybe the battery safety circuit prevents recharging.

Best way to troubleshoot if you have no equipment to test the battery separately is to open up the tab (if you're game) and plug the dock battery into it to charge. I've done it myself. I'd bet it's not so much the battery is dead as it is the dock's charging circuit is screwed up. In my case, I've tentatively diagnosed that the I/O controller (Nuvoton NPCE781LA0DX) on the bottom side of the dock board has died. Seems to happen to a lot of 201 docks. Sub-standard batch I guess. Still waiting for the chip to arrive. I'll be sure to report on any progress.
@sdbags: you mentioned the charging circuit. Do you have any more info on this hardware-wise? Like a schematics for instance?

You can't tell really just from the look of it, unless something burned so badly as to leave traces. Ebay sometimes has the board used, but they typically want somewhere around $40 USD, which is almost the price of getting the whole dock sometimes. That's why I decided to mess with the components, out of curiosity more than anything else. If it doesn't work, I can always buy the board.
If you can hang on for another week or so, I'll let you know how it goes in my case. Even with the I/O controller damaged, everything else works fine with my dock.
In your case, it's always possible the battery is gone. You'd need to check that out first before considering anything else at all.

The chip is the right one as quoted before. Or you can read it off the board. There are 2 different versions for the dock, but if I remember correctly, they both use the same chip. You can buy it on Ebay for around 5 bucks (US). You can remove it with a nozzled heat gun to limit the heat to one area and use Kapton tape or heat dissipating shield to cover the surrounding components. The hard part is to solder the thing back. Without appropriate iron and lots of flux, you won't succeed, I'm afraid.
