New xoomer - advice welcomed! - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all
I just got a xoom from Craig list for 100...any advice?
I threw the newest eos nightly onto it and oced to 1500. Any other thoughts / recommendations?

.. My advice is to read the first two pages of each sub forum, and the stickies. You obviously have no idea what you're doing, and vague threads like this lead nowhere.
I'm not trying to be rude, but there are forum rules and stickies for a reason. If you read them all and still have a specific issue, use the search. If ou find nothing, make a thread and XDA will be more than happy to help.

Ii think u already did the most important. Tweaking is all done, and i also would recommend Team EOS nightlies. Just enjoy your device! For apps and games u have to go and search yourself.

Sgh-i897 & continuum 4

I cant post in the dev forum I guess, so I'll post here. I have always played with mods for computers, bios and system. Always trying to get the most out of my electronics. I even Rockboxed my sansa fuse mp3 player. I'm no expert but I follow directions well I guess. I got my captivate a month or so ago and when searching for info on it I found xda. I read alot and rooted my phone. Then flashed speedmod to use lagfix but I wanted to overclock so I kept reading and found the CONTINUUM 4 thread and read it carefully. I decided to try it and have been hooked ever since. I have had no major issues other than my own lack of knowedge on how android works. I started with speedmod, flashed over it with continuum4 themed. Then after i got it all set up for me I backed up files and started trying different modems. I settled on xxjvk for now and seems all good. I found that with this setup I can oc to 1.3 with a uv of -75. Runs good and stable. I even seemed to help my battery by going to the onix page (the kernel continuum uses) and flashing to the newest onix build. I'm very impressed and happy with this rom and recommend it. I also wanted to mention since some people are having issues with the rom, my phone was a refurb I897 with FROYO2.2 on at&t. I edited my .prop file after flashing to mirror the original FROYO UCKB1 .prop file. I don't know if this does anything but everything seems to recognize my phone as unmodded I897 with unmodded Froyo (including this site for my sig).
So THANK YOU to all that contributed to the continuum4 rom. It's the reason I purchased the xda app.

There's a ROM-specific sticky in Q&A where this should have gone.

He's not asking a question so it's hard to say where it belongs.

It's just comments about a ROM. General seems appropriate.

You can ask questions in existing threads in the dev section, but don't start new threads there just to ask a question.
In a lot of cases questions help the developers to improve their work.
Most devs are happy to answer questions, the only problem with posting new threads in their section is that they clutter it up and distract from keeping track of the updates.

[Q] Problems with CM9 version

The CM9 build that is in my skyrocket is not working like it's supposed to be.
It has this build number: NexusMod ICS Zero Build 2 Rev. 12
The problems is, that usb mass storage is not working, sometimes the device crash, with some apps it also crash.
Can someone tell me if I can make and update to a better version of CM9?
And yes... i'm new with all this stuff, but i learn quick.
By the way I'm from Mexico, so my english will be not so good sometimes...
Thanks guys!
Tom.

Its all a dream
CM9 ≠ NexusMod. Let you start with that... If you want CM9, flash CM9. Might be some weird errors from a bad flash or possibly an old version of NexusMod. So start over and flash CM9 if that's what you want.

Reported! Post your questions in the Q&A!
Dear Tom,
Start by reading the actual cm9 thread. Follow that with posting questions in the Q&A section. Last but not least. Read read read read read read read read read read read.
Sincerely,
Everyone on XDA who is tired of seeing things like this.
Well what a list. Lack of reading. Posting in the wrong section and a pinch of trolling. Moving and locking. OP Search and read before you decide to make a thread.
Cheers

orthous 6

ok i had orthous 5 on my skyrocket, then i upgraded to 6 just now. dont see any difference except i lost the facial recognition in the security feature. is it just not in there anymore or do i need to reinstall
There is already a well active Orthus discussion thread. Please go there and ask questions rather than starting a new thread.
Stock ICS on my S3
Well, I just checked and it works just fine on my rocket running 6.
Sly is right though, you'll prolly get more help over in the Orthus thread...Also, if you spelled it correctly.

There lies your problem. Look for the Orthus thread in general started by garydv2002. Usually Gary or mindmajick can help you with any problems you run into. As long as you don't start bashing the dev or rom for one small issue, you'll find an answer to your problem in no time.

Thread closed.
Use the thread in General please as has been recommended

[Q] Skyrocket roms?

I was wondering from user preference what is the best custom rom for the skyrocket? I have jellybean and love it but I want to overclock the processor just dont want a OS that's buggy and inconvenient for daily use.
I know there any probably many threads about this just wanted to start my own before I go rom happy
My skyrocket is rooted from ordin and I have twrp recovery.
I have never actually flashed a rom on a android just rooted several. I am getting the gs4 next week just want to have a little fun with my skyrocket in the meanwhile.
Thanks.
mod please move
didnt mean to post a question in this section, my bad.
No best rom threads are allowed! If you want to go flash happy before you get your S4 try them all out pick the one best for you.

+1
Only you can decide what ROM is best for you. Do your research, read the threads (take the time and read the whole thread!) And make your own choice.

Dude really...
if you read my stickies you would have seen the those questions aren't allowed, its a forum/mod rule and will be eventually locked
my suggestion is to read the stickies before you start flashing away as its obvious you haven't
from the sticky "read this b4 posting", its a post above your post
28) Q. which rom is the "BEST" rom or any adjective thereof for a rom
A. do not ask as it will be locked by the mod, read about them in the dev forum and decide on your own

I started flashing more than one month ago and I started with the most popular (threads with a lot of posts) / recent ones.
Backuping and restoring is so easy with TWRP. So, keep your prefered ones as backups and make a choice!
If you to overclock, check the OP, it's always mentionned.
Good luck. And read
As mentioned, you really need to try them.
But I understand why you are asking as for the less technically competent user (i.e. me) its hard to easily flash and switch, and its hard to really gauge all the differences.
I do think its personal and depends on what you are looking for.
I can tell you for me I have tried a few and settled on Embryo. Its very stable for me, and with others I found myself having to do a level of troubleshooting and diagnosis that, while easy for others, was hard for me. And so that wasnt a good tradeoff for me. I wanted something stable and easy to tweak and use, even if its at the expense of slightly slower performance, etc. But thats a very personal decision, and everyones results vary depending on their phone, apps, usage, etc.
Thats why people are so reluctant to answer these questions - they arent trying to be difficult!
Good explanation. People aren't trying to be difficult, just tired of answering this question.
