Help about switching from android to windows phone - General Questions and Answers

Hey,I am an android user and I'm quite fond of this OS. However,I really really liked the idea of windows phone . I know that android is in several areas better and more efficient than windows(especially concerning play store)yet I still really desire experiencing wp . Do you think that the switch from android t wp (I am willing to wait for wp8)will affect my mobile experience drastically ,so I should stick to android or should i just go with making the switch ?any ideas?

questions abt android on htc diamond2.

Hi all,
I read through a few sites and the forum to research about my phone and i am looking to make it not so laggy/sluggish.
I am from Australia and is on Telstra network and my HTC Diamond2 is very sluggish and so laggy, it can barely function. Chance upon android articles and reading about rave reviews about how Android performs faster than Windows Mobile 6.5.
I have ZERO computer programming technical abilities. Just a chemist looking to fix her phone. So, this may sounds like requesting baby sitting service, but if anybody is kind enough, please direct me to the builds that are stable with Diamond2.
Google maps, text msging and bluetooth (which at the moment does not work) are very important functions to me, so I am looking for a build that have functions similar to these working well.
thanks so much in advance.
check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509493
there is currently no fully working android build on the TD2 as there are problems with the drivers, android is not a complete replacement for windows mobile tho as you need to boot android from the win mob enviroment, plus as a owner of a android and win mob device i prefer windows over android any day of the week, maybe you should try some system optimisation software like sk tools, pocket mechanic or tweeks 2k2 as they can all improve system stability also try a cooked rom from one of the great TD2 cooks here on xda as alot of them out perform the stock HTC roms
Thank you so much.
Yes, i am just looking to really optimise my phone as I am pretty much stuck with this phone unless I can afford a new handset straight out.
Again, thank you for the link. I have no great computing abilities but I like to DIY. Will definitely look around more.
Thanks so much again.
you're really asking a question that will result in an answer that you just won't like. Its basically not feasible to have android on your phone, and if it ever were to be somewhat available, it would not be stable and it would require significant tinkering and knowledge to have a half-ass working android Diamond2.
your phone is nice...there's definitely a way for you to sell it off locally and purchase an android phone.

Replace TouchWiz with Android

Hi!
I know there are many people thinking the same than me. I have a TouchWiz based phone (Samsung GT-S5600 Preston). It looks nice, has some nice features but you can't get any of those great applications that are available for Android, WM or even iPhone - like a car navigation software etc.
So is there a way to replace TouchWiz and install Android on it?
I mean Samsung has already one Android phone (I7500), I can't imagine that the hardware components are so much different to the S5600/Preston or other newer Samsung phones.
Has anyone experience with this?
Thanks
Hi, we have the same problem.. hope that some one will port the android to preston 5600..
I'm assuming you want the Android interface and not Android OS itself (which isn't availlable and most doubtfully will ever be available for your phones). But even that isn't possible (at least that I know of)... While there are today plugins with those features for WinMo your're stuck on a Symbian phone...
it is not a symbian phone, and the specs are, in my opinion, enough for the phone to support an alternative OS (not just an interface) such as android donut or probably WinMo 6.1.
By the way, I was in the same situation looking for another OS for this phone

[Q] [N00b] Nokia N8 with android why not?

Hey,
Why is there no android version for the N8?
Could anyone create it? There is enough animo for it.
If i read some forums I see that some people want it. Why not?
Also it has the best mobile camera in the world.
If someone can run android on it it would be the best device ever. (I think)
I could find an answer on this forum. But I think this is already changed.
(That there isn't enough animo for it. But there is!)
I'm also a newb in this world. But I like android and the compatibility that the most devices already have with it.
Kevin
I dont know if its that simple. I dont rly know if the android suitable for N8, anyway would be nice to have it (even though that i have HD2, which i think that is much better than N8.) If its possible, my friends will have android too! xD
indeed!
I think an android developer must buy an n8.. that he can see it's a wonderfull device.
And then create android for it.
Not all phones are like hd2, where you can have different os
Sent from HTC HD2 with Android
Not all people wants a HD2
you are not alone my friend!
I too wish the N8 had Android.
It is a much better device than the HD2, screen size isn't everything.

anything is possible, it just takes time.
and in the HD2's favor, it had hardware that was common across different platforms.
plus a big userbase
Isnt the N8 nokia soft based on Debian? couldn't drivers be ported my friend has this device and yes the camera is amazing on it
I thougt it was only meego and maemo wich is debian based?
i was thinking to get a nokia n8 untill ive found out that nokia had very low quality development for that new symbian version, and that they moved torwards windows mobile... i never liked windows mobile and since they were not going for android i said whats the point, on paper the nokia n8 is amazing, but it has some problems aswell, for example the cpu is only 625mhz, while its arguably enough to run android, im not entirely sure it has all the instruction sets compatible with it, emulation is out of the question too, the android code would have to be natively changed to work for it, and then there had to be the matter of games, they also had to be coded properly for that specific gpu,cpu and sound chip, accelerometer and so on.
So thats why ppl dont usually port phones to android, its a mess to code and most of the drivers they have to code them from scratch.

The CPU is official build for 750mhz. So it can run faster.. Also i heard that the new version of android (3.0?) has hardware acceleration for the UI. So the GPU can be used for it.
cpu for android need nore juice and ram.
battery life will be hunger for more to join android.
nokia seem battery effective device.low power consumption

Why?
The HTC ChaCha and Salsa has a 600 mhz processor... And still Android runs on it.
Indeed the ram is littlebit low 256 mb...
Chacha is 800Mhz, 512 of ram..
yeah i wish that someone would find a way to port android to n8 i recently got one and dont like symbian os, any way i'll keep on searching if no luck, guess i have to get an android phone
Edit: forgot to say i had a sony ericsson x8 which had 600 Mhz processor and 256mb ram and i was even able to run android 4.0 on it dunno why n8 would not run on this device
The question is why port android to N8? The N8 is a wonderful device as is. If you have an N8 you probably bought it for it's camera prowess. Bonus: you get a very long battery life (compared to droids). Now if you want to port android on it then it will become power hungry and will be full of glitches since it has poor dev support. Also, you wouldn't want a slow droid. 600mhz for a droid is quite slow, and as stated, the RAM is low. You're better off buying an affordable Galaxy Y. Believe me it's quite fast, if you can live with it's low res screen.
Cheers,
Cezar

it's not possible to port Android or any other OS to symbian phones because of locked bootloaders by Nokia
Nokia n9 is running meego OS which is with unlocked bootloaders and that's why this phone can have dual boot or just one OS like Android 4.x.x ICS
I want it too
I have an Nokia N8 too and i would love to run android on it.
So if there is any way to install android on it....
I also have nokia n8, it was really a great phone,hi quality build, superb. And I fine with symbian^3 but what bothering me was that the nokia apps store is getting useless. I need BBM and can't find any.

[Q] Windows vs Android

i would like to know what are your opinions about the 2 OS
there is always debates going on which is good or best
since windows 8.1 launching this week there are few nice improvements in it
similarly android kitkat launched few months ago had new things to give
so i would like to know what u all think are the pros and cons of both these OS and which would prefer
also u can tell what features do u need in the other OS so that u can feel good to switch to it
I have been using a lumia 920 for 3 months and now i got an LG G2. There are things to like in both camps.
On Windows Phone you have a clean OS, very easy to use without bloat and fast. Also i like a lot the microsoft ecosystem, that is onedrive, office, onenote primarly. But there are disadvantages, like how they "force" you to use bing search, IE is much worse than android browsers and you can't rly change it atm, and some apps i used like facebook are not well made yet.
On the other hand Android is all about selection, you will find great support on this OS by everyone and you will just have a little less slicker experiance than WP.
IMO go for android at this time, in 1-2 years i dont know where i will be leaning
+1 to your opinion
one thing in which windows lacks and is not chosen by people is its shortlist of app store
if a time comes when it has apps near to that of android playstore then u never know
now this is something innovative i thought which came in win 8.1 - Cortana
it has many new features which as u can see in the image below neither siri nor google now have :good:
Both have evolved a lot.
@hyde4bw - your opinion is seconded..

Definitely agree! I'm a windows user myself and the situation on market place is really disheartening. It is going to take something massive to turn the tables for microsoft.
Windows 8.1 is more innovative than w8 but i still prefer android, cause it's open source
Ofcourse Andoird! Windows sux on PC, on tablet and on mobile... Android such as Linux has waaaaay better file system ama overal file managmen than Windows...
What about Windows Mobile 6.5?

Internet Explorer is the most safe browser. Windows Phone 8.1 comes with IE 11 which is modern enough.

Customers don't care about file system but overall performance. Android can't compete with Windows Phone performance.

Good for industry, but customers prefer Store.
Win vs android
Performance-Windows offers way better performance when compared to the android os.
Store and apps-Android is way better compared to windows. There aren't many applications in the windows store when compared to android
If your a person who like's his apps more choose android but if you want to choose performance and better theme environment go for windows
Android is defiantly better for ones who love customization, whether you flash roms or not the possibility are endless! (to a point of root access lol) i find windows phone a quite basic but still a Good OS, i would choose android over a Towering high windows phone any-day. i wish i could have been able to develop in the Windows 5+ days of xda, i read all of the old roms and threads on them and they seemed pretty awesome.
