clean stock ICS ROM for desire s - HTC Desire S

Hello, can you recommande good working and stable clean ICS ROM(like Galaxy Nexus stock interface) for daily use that has no htc sense? thx

Try Fallout or AOKP. Both are pretty good, but have some bugs.
Anyway, they won't be as stable and good as we wish until new kernel from HTC will be released.
As far I know, there isn't any absolutely problem-free and bugfree ICS ROM due to that kernel.

Fallout is a great rom indeed, but it's sense.
Try IceColdSandwich, or Tectas Unofficial.

BlindIce is what you want! Almost perfect!

because of my obsessive-compulsive-rom-flashing fetish, I have tried Fallout, Miui, IceColdSandwich, BlindIce and Primo. While Primo and Fallout have sense 4 lite, they are not what you are looking for. Miui is stable and has a good set of features, however, the ICS version of Miui is laggy and slow. Another major drawback is that Miui seems to ape ios in terms of UI and that gets really boring really fast. After all, that is why we are on android no? I have heard that the AOKP stock from Tectas is not as fast as the IceColdSandwich rom (possibly because IceColdSandwich incorporates tweaks from a number of sources including linaro and has the camera working, which I haven't seen any posts confirming this for the AOKP rom). i've tried BlindIce too, and found it a bit too laggy for my taste. So, you are probably best off with IceColdSandwich, which I have found to be the least laggy, less buggy, with most bits and pieces working and regularly updated. All flashing was done with clean install, full wipe/factory reset and no restoring of apps. Yeah, OCD like I mentioned earlier. This is just my opinion, however, I'd love to hear more from others with different experiences.
- tazz

I've tried CM9, tectas' AOKP and IceColdSammy. IceColdSandwich does feel like the smoothest and fastest of those 3. Didnt last long on CM9 and barely a day into it i went back to Reaper (still my favorite ROM). but that was one of the earlier CM9 builds, haven't gone back because every time i think about venturing away from Reaper, i try AOKP first (the latest one from Tectas is probably the most stable one of that series i've tried) then the IceColdSandwich (the latest version 8.3 is, again, the most stable) which is what I'm running now. I think i like the "cleaner", more stock android feel of AOKP. the smoothness of IceColdSandwich on top of that is plus too.
Been away from Reaper just a little over a week now and i might not come back or switch to another (yeah, right) until lowveld (fingers crossed) decides to build an ICS or JB version of Reaper.

ICE_DS by ronks is most probably the closest we can get to our official ICS OTA! With sense 3.6 though, might wanna try it out...

I'll be more specific.
Looking for a cool room which is stable.
A room which differs from the regular Android and sense ( Wp7 , ics , etc. )
You can't get much more different from Sense than using an AOSP ROM.
Cyanogen is one, although it has stalled while they work on ICS. I like MIUI and the Galnet one seems particularly sweet and stable. I use mine for work as well as personal and don't seem to have any problems. The most customisable of any ROM and some of the lock-screens make you keep waking the phone up just coz they are so damn good to look at or show off.

So any nice looks roms? Is it possible to have win phone 7? Also what are good tweaks? Anything cool?
I am currently using Oxygen, so far so good.

Kind-of. Look in the Dev thread and there is a fully skinned ROM which looks just like WP7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385267

I tried it one month ago looking for an ics rom but i did not enjoy it so I reverted to my endymion 3.4 backup (which i think it's still fantastic!).
In fallout I didn't find a way to disable battery %, it lacks some htc widgets and lockscreen (i really like the one with weather)
But beside this, it's really smooth.
now i'm on ics 4.1 which seems to be good.

Fallout
I have been using Fallout v4.1 for a long long time and it's smooth, clean and very stable, in 1 month since this version was released, only 1 unexpected reboot. The battery life is incredible, best of any rom, sometimes 2 days. Hope it heps you.

Yeah I'm a huge fan of lowveld's roms, started on Hyperion then Endymion, now on Fallout. Just looking forward to a custom kernel for it

[Q] The best ROM ?

Hi guys. I want to know which is the best ROM for daily use ? My gf has a Desire S and the light sensor doesn't work properly during a call so it's very easy to accidentally touch the 'mute' button (or any button).
Anyway, as I am not a Desire S owner I don't really know which ROM is the most stable and battery friendly.
Thanks.
LE: Sorry for the wrong section, I didn't see the 'Q and A' section on the main page so I thought it doesn't exist at all
Hi mate,
Obviously it's a bit subjective, but I really don't think you can beat lowveld's Endymion 3.3 ROM. It's still htc sense so your girlfriend won't have to get used to a new UI, only a more updated one! I've tried everything else and I'm always back to it!
It's very stable, I've never once had any problems. Battery life is the best of any ROMs I've tried too, I get nearly 2 days of moderate/heavy usage.
But the ROM requires any partition layout (on my Desire I have 1GB ext4 on my SD card for apps) ?
I think the best ROM for Saga is Endymion.
It is very stable and best thing is that the support thread is amazing.
Not jus the developer, but also the users are so knowledgeable and helpful. It's almost like a professional support center team!!
I like Endymion too...
But i also like CM7, becuause it is much faster!
Take oxygen Rom rock solid
Best Sense-Roms (for me): Endymion and Coredroid
My choice atm Reaper 1.2 (CM7.2 based) with an older version of zeam-launcher (for scrollable widgets). Fastest/Smoothest Rom i every used, no problems noticed and the battery last longer than on other Roms.
Depends on what your gf wants. If she just wants a rom with everything straight out of the box, it's better to pick a Sense-based rom. If she likes customizing, pick CM. And if she want an iOS feel for her Desire S, pick Miui.
The problem with the light sensor doesn't sound good. You should download an app to check the values of the light sensor. You might need to send the Desire S for repair. Better wait with flashing a new rom.
For me best room is ICS.
With sense 3.5 and android 2.3.5 (ics Virtuous Quattro RC1 is almost but not enough ready for me), i prefer RunnyDrOiD By PVTEAM
Thanks guys. My gf is not a ROM freak so she doesn't want to flash new updates for her ROM every day... so I'll stick to Sense 3.5. ATM I'm downloading Endymion V3.3 ROM and hopefully it'll work like a charm . I'll post here after I flash it...
CM 7 Room
I wanna try the CM 7 Room.. wich is the best? with no bugs or problems
Check out lowveld's "Reaper" ROM, it's based on CyanogenMod but with a number of tweaks.
I switched to it yesterday out of boredom, and I'm amazed by it, it's superfast, I've had zero FC's, and best of all it has lowveld's seal of quality so you know the support is top notch!
Check it out in the development thread.
Cm7 is super fast and has a great battery life but u won't have all the sense features, so It's up to u. I'm running on endymion 3.3 and i like it very much. Think I'm gonna wait for a stable ics Rom before shifting.
Cheers

+1.
I like Endymion because of HTC Sense and its functionality.
But I love CM7 due to its legendary performance.
Its up to your GF. But you should note, the smaller font size on Endymion does take quite a while to get used to!

CM10 came out quicker than CM9

as the title says. i was running CM7 on my DHD and my sensation for the longest time and was anxious for the CM9 release. i tried CM9 for a bit then decided to flash HNS and then Virtuous. my point is, CM9 still has a few bugs and CM10 beta has been released. will CM9 be left since CM10 will now be the focus? i was waiting for a solid CM9 rom to be released but i guess i'll see how the progress of CM10 comes along.
sent from the Nudy bar, one handed.
CM10 is still in alpha stages... very little important aspects even work
CM7 and CM9 are based on two completely different Android builds, CM10 based on JB is very similar to CM9 based on ICS
If the developers manage to get a fairly stable build of cm10 they may well move on to cm10 altogether. Does not make sense to develop cm9 anymore. Well unless there is something important in cm9 that cannot be fixed in 10
I thought I read somewhere that CM9 will still be worked on and right now they are looking to release the CM9 RC. CM10 was out quicker because it's base off of CM9 and is not a build from the ground up like it was for CM9. Because of this, they can use most of the build to work on CM10.
Cm9 is on RC2 now so I think cm9 came quicker and its basically fully stable. I use it as a daily

I second that. I stayed away from CM9 on the Sensation for a long time since it was just not quite stable/functional enough for me (stable maybe but some of the key functions weren't stable enough and battery life was killing me for a while).
Anyway, I installed CM9 RC2 late last week; I think the day it came out. Anyway... to the point... CM9 RC2 has been extremely stable for me, battery life has been great (not QUITE as good as some of the Sense-Less ROMs out there like Virtuous or ExtremeSensation but close enough). I much prefer a clean AOSP system anyway so I'm sticking with it.
With CM10 on the way I'm encouraged by the fact that we finally have a stable CM9 for them to build off of. Thanks to the whole crew who has been working on it!

What i dont like about cm9 is the overall volume... its very low compared to sense roms...
Hmm....the volume issue would be something worth investigating.
CM9 took quite a while for ROMs/kangs/unofficial nightlies to start appearing. This was because they needed to rewrite the whole CM source tree (the modifications CM makes to Android) from scratch. Jelly Bean, under the hood, is quite similar to ICS, so it's a lot lot easier to port things from CM9 to CM10. Porting things from CM7 to CM9 was almost, if not impossible.

Help with ICS or higher ROM choice

Howdy,
I've tried Virtuous Quattro RC3, whose development unfortunately stopped, and now I'm using IceColdSandwich 8.3, which is a great ROM, but I've encountered a few apphangs and the camera is still not as polished as I would have liked.
Could you recommend a ROM with regard to what I mentioned above?
CM9 is good, although development also stopped on that. CM10 is very promising. Using that now as my daily ROM. Stability is the same as CM9, so no issue with that. A few things are now working, such as the front-face camera, but that's not a big issue for me.
If you want a completely stable ROM, with no issues, your best choice is probably an Gingerbread ROM, at least until there is a ICS compatible kernel from HTC.
Well, I'm kinda inclined to try Ice DS or BlindBean, but I can't decide which one it's going to be.
Anyway, thanks
it's not like buying a house or choosing a wife.
i used to be hesitant like u, but after flashing from cm7.1 i never stop flashing. and i try to make it a point to try it all(gB , jB or anyB).
u can flash ice ds, try it out, make a back up, then flash blindbean, if u prefer the earlier, then just revert back.
I've used pretty much all ICS roms posted so far (bad case of flash-itis), and so far my two favorites are Fallout V4.4 which has Sense 4.0 and is really really fast, and ICE_DS with Sense 3.6
My favorite so far is ICE_DS because Sense 3.6 is less obstrusive than 4.0, and ideally I'm looking for a ROM without any sense at all (CM10).
I would try ICE_DS first... and make sure to follow the instructions on the first post! It's very important to do the FULL WIPE they ask there, it solved a lot of problems I had.
Hope this helps!

As a general rule, all AOSP ROMs with ICS and above aren't stable for heavy use as they use kernel 2.6. If you want stable ICS+ use Sense ROMs. However, Super kid has a jelly bean ROM which uses Kernel 3.0 which is a major breakthrough IMO. I've switched over to it, mainly due to the kernel. Very very stable, no reboots after days of heavy use.

Best Sensation Rom

Hi guys I thought I'd share my rom experience and ask for general opinions on HTC sensation roms.
I have tried the following:
DarkForest sense 3.6 - Solid rom but not as smooth ARHD.
ARHD 6.8.0 - My current rom - I experience the best gaming performance on this. As far as I can see this is a better and more reliable version of stock. It also has the unique sense stuff - (slow motion camera, useful save SD space interface and the best battery life ect)
JBMIUIv4.1 - This is a very interesting rom that felt really fast and very iOS like. However it lacks an app draw which makes restoring apps from titanium backup a problem.
CM10 - Best rom with Jelly Bean. Awesome rom with a fast buttery interface. However the Trebuchet launcher begins to lag after a while, though swapping to Apex did improve this. Though it was faster than ARHD, games lagged more for some reason - perhaps it is not fully optimised for the sensation.
Ordroid - This was my first sense 4 rom. Also it is the most smooth sense rom I have ever tried. I loved this but unfortunately it is no longer supported so I am forced to move on.
Finally we have ViperS 1.3.5 This is certainly the most advanced of all the roms I have tried and brings a full sense 4 experience to the sensation. However before the sense 4.1 update it was almost unusable with more than 50 or so apps installed. The home screen lagged a lot. Now with the sense 4.1 update this has certainly improved and it is less laggy. I am unable to understand how it is still less responsive than Ordroid Even though Ordroid is supposedly from a less responsive version of sense. Maybe when the jelly bean update is released this will finally change.
So I now ask you guys: Which Sensation rom is your favorite and why? Also does anyone know why ARHD provides better gaming performance than any other rom?
i started from arhd 6.7.2, as it was the easiest custom rom to flash, closest to stock.
then i moved to viperS, 1.0.1 to 1.3.5. sense 4.1 definitely feels smoother, and i had no issue with 1.3.5.
after s-off, I tried paranoid android, it was cool but still experimental at that time, so I settled with hypernonsense and happy with it.
soon after, cyanogenmod 10 fixed the front camera bug, so I tried it (v4.1.2). i love the buttery smooth animations, replaced trebuchet with nova launcher. would have keep on using it as it was stable. alas the mms function is broken in my case.
so i finally return to using hypernonsense 3.5, and so far it has been great! the only thing i miss is theme customization (cyanogenmod theme spoiled me a bit), but the black & white looks good anyway.
i'm not a gamer, so i cant compare gaming performance between those roms. my highest antutu benchmark score is 8060, using vipers 1.3.5 and faux kernel with vsync disabled. on cm10, highest antutu score is around 5500.

Nova Launcher is slightly faster IMO, used both alot.
Even I've switched between roms.. but presently due to some constraints the flashoholic thingy is away.
I'm presently on viper s 1.3.5
Jb miui s89: wonderfully smooth... Butter
(And titanium backup even works without app drawer, as the op says it doesn't)
But Jb has some bugs surely...
Elegance:
1. Pegasus seemed cool with blue kinda stock but after installation the blue color didn't seem so awesome.
N I experienced random restarts after titanium backup restores(I don't know which app particularly created the issue)
2. Blitz: now that would be the best stock 3.6 sense rom I've tried.
I simply loved the camera app in it.
Though it looks almost similar to stock but the color contrasts, vibrancy in color, the dof, the macro photography capturing capability... Everything was superb.
I used it for quite a long time.
(The reason I'm not using it now... I dropped my phone from a height of 15 frets. And the screen started behaving erratically. Response faded, things I didn't click started getting activated.
Firstly I thought it's surely a hardware issue since I dropped the phone, but just random thought, I decided to restore the nandroid of viper s, and it worked like a charm.
I know it seems awkward to say hardware/screen issues vanishing by replacing rom, but that's what happened)
Hyper nonsense:a good smooth rom with minimalistic app but good library supports.
I've even tried other roms, but just mentioned a few.
Now I'm quite bored of the cm 9/10 look(trebuchet, apex n nova)
And even to an extent sense. Hoping some visual change in android soon.

Yeah, also Bruce's rom, got me laughing here, too, re: "hardly" typo, should be "hard" or "heartily".

InsertCoin Evolution is a good rom too

Try this one >>>> Smartdroid Berserk 2.3
highly recommended :good:
I tried a few..
ARHD First ROM i flashed. WAS Great after 3.33 was released, things started to act up weird.. I got random reboots, the whole ROM was also laggy in the end. I gave up on it. Was a suberb ROM pre 3.33 release and super stable. This Rom also gave me best batterylife.
CM9 (stable) gave me horrid batterylife. I loved CyanogenRom´s back in the Nexus One / Gingerbread days but since then i have found them not that good..Until i got..
CM10 by Bruce2728.. which i am currently running. Gives me good batterylife, however some wakelocks is still there, but not that big a threat to my battery. Rom is Beta but works great to me on most parts.
Ordroid Best ROM i tried after ARHD. Stable, good batterylife. Good allrounder. How it is now, i dunno. I used it while it was still developed.
JBMIUIv4.1 Nice looking, but really not my thing. i prefer my ROM simple, hasslefree and with minimal 3rd party features. Something this has plenty off.
Tried Virtous as well long ago, but don´t remember how it was.
To me, best Rom right now is Bruce´s CM10.
CM 10
Bruce's CM10 ROM is the best sensation ROM for me. It utilises Jellybean, is so smooth and is near perfect in my opinion. Any small issues are being dealt with, with regular updates.
Also another great thing is that you no longer have to do a full wipe for the updates which is such a great bonus.
CM10
My first ROM was ARHD, then I try whit ViperS 1.3.5, then I past to Dark Forest... Actualy I'm using CM10 is pretty good. =)
My first rom is elegance pegasus with apex pro and I like it a lot better that stock. i will try Bruces's CM10 rom next after reading these helpful posts.
I also use Bruce's CM10 ROM. Minor bugs, nothing which renders the phone unusable. It might enter the nightly phase soon.

I use CM10 by Bruce. It's wonderful, only Wifi signal is low. No further issues.
Bought this phone second hand, was already installed with Elegancia rom. Nice Rom, but I just like CM!
I'm using Bruce's cm10,the rom is nice looking but the scrolling is driving me nuts, how do you guys deal with it?
Hi, I'm new here on the Sensation users, got mine l less then a week ago, still need to s-off but unlocked bootloader and superuser are done. Smart flash allowed me to try some roms thanks for that, so here is me brief experience:
- team venom: very complete and one of the most updated I think, but the load of default configuration almost makes sensation crawl a bit sometimes. Not bad battery life but it's a unforgivefull rom, so it's justified. The most complete sense rom.
- miui jb : I like miui, used it before for a long time on my desire, the JB release is great. Fast, beautiful, highly customizable, no issues. If you're into something different it's a great alternative. You can add a app drawer if you miss it or just organize things with folders .
- JB AOKP: Using it now. Fast, clean, the AOKP customization makes it really something unique experience. Good battery life, good performance. I'm still on a flashing spree though, my opinion can change without notifications lol.
