I'm rooted with stock route 66. I have beats installed. My question is will this new update soon to be pushed out modifying the on phone search functionality, thanks to Apple affect my Rom or can it be blocked by CWM. Just saw this today on droid line. Thanks

I recently rooted my Inspire. Today there was a WIFI update available and when I went to run the update the screen blacked out with an exlclamation mark. Is this because of the root that the phone will not take the update? Or is that the update process?
Thanks
Is the update from your service provider or from the people that created the ROM? If it's from your provider I would not even try to run the update just wait for an updated version of your rom to come out.
Thanks!
Kind of what I was thinking but being new to the device I thought I would ask.
Thanks again!
This is just to enable better speeds but all the ROMs already enable that.

Actually, its likely the side loading update, which most Roms also have. The speed update was weeks ago...

The OTA update is a combination of a patch pack and some new firmware for the radio and hboot. The first phase is applying the patch pack. For this to work, you need a pretty much stock ROM. If you're rooted, you likely have a few files that will be different and the patch will fail. It also checks the CID and aborts if you're not using stock (ie you used gfree to "open" your SIM, etc.). The firmware will only install after the patching process has completed successfully.
If you are rooted, then your best bet is to just use ATTN1's package that contains all the patched files and firmwares. You can find it here:

ok, first i am new the forums but not new to the rooting game. I should've researched a little more before i went and jumped on the sprint deal. i just thought that the nexus s 4g had a much larger dev community. What i mean is, when i had my OGD it was the best thing that has ever happened to me, i mean it got soo much love and it was easy to modify. i moved to the DX after that and then jumped the NS4G for sprint. So here's my questions...
1)Can/is there a better radio to flash to improve data speeds other than the update?
2)can i flash some of the NS roms on my NS4G?
3)why is everything thru adb? i mean, why no zips and simple metamorphs?
4)a better comprehensive guide on how to use adb coming from where ive been. lol nowhere near using adb. i need this bad
5)any other kernels im not seeing?
6)will miui ever support 4G?
i just want to know as much as possible bc i have a lil baby girl and ive spent alot of time searching. i cant spent all day so i skim thru. please if there is any others questions that i shouldve asked please guide me in the right direction. lets get me up to speed as well as others. thanks guydes
There is plenty to flash for the ns4g.
The KE5 radio is the latest and by far the best. It came with the 2.3.5 ota.
There are plenty of kernels. Matr1x, netarchy, Trinity, Jame bond, just to name a few.
There are roms that are compatible with all versions of the nexus s. Read the rom descriptions.
I believe MIUI.us supports 4g but don't quote me on that.
The reason you see alot of ADB talk is because the Nexus s is considered a development phone. ADB is a more advanced and more reliable method. Of course you don't have to use ADB for everything. Most everything is made as zip files to be flashed from recovery like every other phone.
How old is your baby girl? I have a 9 month old so I can relate!
There are some really good guides in the development forum I suggest you read to become more familiar with the phone before you do something you regret. Good luck!

Unfortunately MIUI does not support 4g since there's no 4g in China.

I want to run miui but my 3g is incredibly slow here. I need 4g. Are any off you guys good or familiar with adb? See i'm miss that in cyanogenmod, where you could easily go into settings and change the status bar colors and such. Now I see you have to conduct mad science routines just to change it. Hell, anyone have a very good guide to learn this stuff from.

@remedy, she is 1 year old that started walking at 9 months that just completely terrorizes everywhere she goes. Lol

Try this...
That should give you everything you need to root...plus links and such
I use this kernel on my stock rooted NexusS4G. The base 1 @ 1.2, tiny undervolt.
That guide is pretty helpful. I'm already rooted with deodexed stock
2.3.5 I look at that party everyday thinking it will get updated with something I haven't seen. I like the kernel to I think I might flash later after the bears game.

Mine started walking at 8 months and chasing her around is a full time job!
I recommended netarchy nexus kernel. A nice speed increase and super stable!

OK, here's a problem. Why can't u flash recovery in fastboot? I typed exactly how its spelled and its in my tools folder. I unrooted earlier today to learn adb. I'm stuck without custom recovery and su. Thoughts, I've searched for 4hours and can't find the answer.

You can flash recovery from fastboot. In fact it is the preferred method!
Make sure the recovery image is in the directory you have adb open from.

I do but still no luck... I'm stressing here and I can't find the answers...I don't understand what's wrong.

I just got my skyrocket, having faithfully used my Nexus One since it came out for att. While I don't doubt I will eventually hop on CM again once it's officially out for the skyrocket, for now though I have to get rid of the bloatware and get back the ability to tether my tablet.
I was wondering what was the best of the methods for just getting root, superuser, and busybox, without putting on cwm or anything else?

You can use super one click and the flash cwm via rom manager selecting tmobile sgs 2 as your device
Ok first off I don't know a whole lot about figuring this stuff out, but trying to learn. So while poking around the zip for the ota update I came across the ATT Readytogo.apk, could we put the original one in there that allowed us to get root and then install the update. Would the original apk stay and allow us to use that exploit to gain root on 2.2 if you did not originally have it or lost it.
I don't know if this is even close but thought it might work. I am still running 1.85 rooted so not too comfortable with testing this.
Let me know what you smart people think.

The one issue with this is once you modify the ota zip it ruins the signature and it will no longer pash the signature verification and it will fail

Ready2Go is patched. Regardless, even on the old exploitable version, required an app to be installed from ATT's side....which they disabled.
Darn I figured it sounded too easy

My wife's phone received the official Jelly Bean OTA file yesterday and now her phone is totally FUBAR. I've factory reset it 3 times now and each time different things stop working. I'd like to get the official OTA file and re-apply and then factory reset it one more time. Does anyone have the file or a URL to download it?

Thanks but those all look like they have been de-odexed or rooted. I was looking for the "virgin" OTA that comes straight from Verizon. I want to see if that makes the phone work again properly before adding in the variable of rooting it.
They are. You may want to look at section 5 of that guide again. The first download is the official ota

Ok thanks. I think I need my eyes checked too. Anyway, I downloaded it and applied it to my wife's phone. Still having the issues synching the Google contacts on the two accounts we use to store contacts. FWIW, I am wondering if VZW has pulled the update. My SG III was bugging me for since Friday to apply the JB OTA and has finally just stopped. My wife's phone on the other hand is totally non functional even after applying the full wipe version of JB.
