I am just figuring this out too
If I getting it right, you need 10 posts to post links and/or to create threads and discussions (not 6-8). But I didn't found it stated in the rules.

Though your reviving a very old thread with a valid question...
The following (portion) of a quote is probably the best guidance I can give you specific to your question regarding guidance on the XDA Rules for post counts.

That's why, as a "junior member" I am unable to ask my question here... I was wondering what was up with that. Surprised that my comments haven't reached the count of 10 yet over the past few years since I started consulting this forum. Commenting for the sake of commenting has never been my thing (like those answers to questions on amazon---"I don't know the answer, as I only just received the product" :-/ With this policy I do feel tempted though, as I have a rather pressing issue with my phone.

The 10 post limit only affected posting in /development sections, that limitation was dropped a few years ago.
There is a 50 post min to create a thread in development sections.

The link u posted is invalid mate.
But am guessing u are trying to reply in a development thread. Since u are a Junior Member, you cannot post or reply in development threads until you have 10 meaningful posts.

lol, in one way I can understand the rule, but on the other it's quite lame.
Just wanted to share info about bug in a tool, but impossible due to not having posted 10 times yet :~
Maybe that rule could be extended to also allow people to post who are registered longer than one month or smth.
This way you _need_ to generate sensless posts to get beyond the limit
But oh well, whatever, already one more with this post
---------- Post added at 10:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:15 PM ----------
Btw, I can't even view my own profile.
It just loads and loads forever. I can view any other profile, just not mine.
Is that any known issue?

You can simply PM the dev of that tool, stating the bug with a detailed report of it.
Reason for the 10 post count limit and how to make them easily
Discussion on the 10 post count limit
If you've got a better idea than this rule, please post it here:
Alternative to 10 post rule

Its probably due to a site maintenance or possible server overload. Try again after a few hours.

I think the 10 post rule works good. Even I was frustrated at the beginning and now I had browsed through and read enough to be more responsible contributor. If I had started immediately then I would not have bothered to read the forums properly.

New user.

Hello, i'm new in xda Forum, I can't post in the developpers ROM because i'm new, but not logical, because, i want help, and i can't.
I've read the rules, but it's not logical, exept if you want to spam the Forum with this rules. Because, lot's of people want to have the 10 messages will post everything like his life or anything else that is not interesting.
What do you want help with?

press volume up to reset your device or press any other bottom to cancel. this operation will erase all data and restore device to its factory default setting"

Welcome to xda, the 10 post rule does a lot of good things and is one of the primary tools for keeping spam from being posted into the Development threads. Since you are an experienced flasher, there are probably plenty of questions you could be answering in the Galaxy S III mini Q&A forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-mini/help

Yes, I think so.
I understand your point! Indeed, it is quite annoying that you have to post 10 times before you van ask or share the "real things"

in fact not the 10 rule sucks... but captcha is just hard to read for users, boots have no problem to read them (it seems)

I can't help it but to agree those captcha's are a real pain in the back, some of them really takes a decipherer to do the job.

Can't you at least set the most active threads on the first page of general forum? one can have a thing or two to answer on those but in its current shape with many primitive Qs on the 1st page, you have to leaf through pages to find something worthy of answering to fill up the 10 posts gauge.
same here would like to discuss in Dev thread but not able to post reply

Actually I don't understand. I do understand the rules, that's why I didn't ask this question myself, but I don't understand why somebody would impose such a rule. I mean a guy who asks silly questions will ask a silly question even in his 11th post, while someone who doesn't usually ask silly questions will probably not do so from the first post.
...
A few weeks ago I managed to S-OFF, root and then install a lot of custom ROMs on my old Desire S, all that without asking any questions, just by reading the forum. In fact I didn't even feel the need to register.
But after that, I registered on the forum not to ask something, but to answer a question, I think it was about a broken link for an ENG S-OFF HBOOT, which I had found in another place and had successfully flashed.
Then I was shown the rules. The thread I was trying to reply to was in a "development-related forum", so as a new user I couldn't post a reply. I thought it would be kind of silly to post, as you put it, 10 "random posts", for the sole purpose of being able to post a useful one. So I gave up.
Maybe I am wrong, but I think this rule is doing more bad than good, at least in this particular case it certainly did. To avoid cluttering the forum with useless posts and silly questions, maybe a voting system would have been better? Something like the opposite of the "Thanks" button, allowing other users to vote down a post as inappropriate, then when it got a number of negative votes, it would be automatically deleted, or hidden as spam.
Just an idea...
