Ok I've been rooted and modding for almost 2 years now, and this is the first real problem I have had. Just know that ANY suggestions and/or info are appreciated. Ok on with the problem
It looks like the LCD is going out after living with a cracked digitizer for a couple months. first the screen just went grey static and fuzzy. I would put pressure on it, and it would come back and be fine. then it started going completely black, and then i would put pressure on the screen/smack it and it would come back. Now the LCD isn't backlit and is completely nonresponsive.
It seems like it would be a hardware issue, but Im not so sure.. It wasnt doing this at first, but now when I [pull battery and] power on, it gives that short buzz like it does when the splash screen should come up (but doesnt of course), I wait for a minute then it gives that short buzz again, and again like it is in bootloop. The only signs of life are a blinking red LED, vibrating motor, and sometimes if Im lucky the backlight on the 4 keys on the bottom.
I have no access to recovery, bootloader, or splashscreen, and not really sure what to do. Is there a chance that this is a software thing (a kid could wish). If your do believe it is the LCD where is the place to get a cheapest replacement LCD and digitizer? Also could it be a hardware issue to the fatal non-replaceable components?
FYI: rom-eyecandy with bricked kernel not overclocked
So you have damaged hardware? Cracked LCD - I think there is no need to search further for the root cause...

Hi all,
I am at my wits end on this problem if anyone can offer any adivice it would be greatly appreciated. So let me give a recap of what has occured thus far. The water damage tag for some reason turn pink thus i am unable to get warranty exchange. I am pretty certain that the phone has never been expose to any water of anything of that sort, but i do live in houston, tx so might be humidity or what not that cause the tag to turn. Anyways.
1. This all started after i flashed RRE 5.2 RC3. Initially after a successful flash everything seem normal and fine. Then next morning i woke up to a frozen screen with many verticial lines running up and down the screen was almost unreadable. Initially i thought it was a bad flash or just random lock up. I did a hard reset and tried to enter the bootloader. Black screen, it does seem like the backlight is coming up but nothing on the screen. I can hear the phone power on and boot successfully into windows. Activesync connects i can browse the contents of the phone.
2. After flashing to stock att rom and stock htc roms same symptoms. So at this point i am thinking crap bad LCD screen. so I ordered both the digitizer and lcd screen for good measure. I replaced them hoping that a bad LCD was all. replaced both screens and i powered on the phone. same problem. black screen. The phone still powers on and boots into windows. Activesync still connects and i cna still reflash the phone.
3. I work extensively and do both desktop pc and notebook repair. I am not new to dealing with small electronic repairs. but at this juncture i am unable to identify the cause of hte malfunction. i am hoping maybe some of the gurus here might be able to shine some light on the subject.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I would have followed the same approach; your description makes it sound like it might be some kind of backlighting issue at first read. I'm inclined to think it might be a cold connection (bad connector) on the main board.
Silly question, what happens if you power up the phone with the keyboard exposed?
*EDIT* Not sure if you have been here yet: http://www.mikechannon.net/
Cheers,
i just tried to power up the phone with keyboard exposed. Powers up the same as with the keyboard hidden. Still boots up fine but black screen. I already have the service manuel dowloaded. i have checked around with several repair places both local and on the web. Seems like no one has any parts for the att fuze/touch pro gsm except for the lcd and digitizer and a speaker.
its quite possible that it is a main board but as the same time it might be something as simple as a ribbon cable. i have contacted htc about doing a possible repair and they want wayyyy too much for just a main board repair almost $400 USD.
Anyone have a bricked/ non working touch pro they would like to sell ? =P

Could be a bad ribbon cable ... and firmly pressing around the front/back of the unit shows no change?
pressing the phone front and back show no changes to display. in a very dark room I can see that there is light emitting from the display but its just the screen is not displaying anything visable. this occured both before and after i changed out the screens. I'll do another visual inspection of all the boards to see if there is any bad resistors burnt out circuits etc.. but i didn't notice anything mentionable during my first 2 inspections. Maybe 3rd time is the charm.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far Hilaireg it is quite appreciated. All this venting has at least made me feel 1000% better than after i replaced my lcd and still same problem at least i don't feel like a complete idiot!
Sorry I couldn't be of much help ... you've done all the steps a seasoned hardware person would do.
Do post back to let other folks know if you get it back up and running.
Cheers,
you have a pm fkoong.
I have possibly the same problem. Phone got wet, dried it out for 2 days (in a container of rice). Phone worked but had "water marks" on screen that disappeared after two days and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then one day (happened to be humid misting rain eve in Charleston) the screen is blank (hint of backlight only). A soft reset and it seems OK for about 1hr, then blank again. The hard resest screen displayed OK (readbale text etc), but didnt work. But as I write this, I retry to document it results correctly and the NATF ROM is reloading and the screen works! We will see how long!!
Well.. not that long, the end of the ROM load and it went blank again, seems like a video driver problem. The Press VoluP to boot does show some red artifact.
Trying hard reset again (No SIM no uSD)
The NATF v4.4 loads and gives me the Tap screen, Align Screen, stylus, loads customization, opera, tf3d, then loads a bunch of files under ...... and then the screen goes blank again, seem like what happened last time, so Ill try loading a fresh ROM copy... later
Hi, I have a droid 2 global, it belongs to my friend. She dropped it and this screwed up her touch functions. The screen was turning on but she was not able to get any feedback when she touched anything on the screen. I told her i'd try and fix it for her, first thing i did was ordered a new digitizer thinking this was the problem, unfortunately it was not. Even with the new digitizer i couldnt slide to unlock or feel any haptic feedback. I reopened the phone and looked for another possibility to the problem, i found a little tear in the flex cable connected to the digitizer, lcd and keyboard, somehow in the process of removing everything i think i may have ripped it. I ordered a new one of those, put it all back to together and this time the screen didnt turn on, however when i touched, it responded by vibrating. So that solved the previous problem. But now i have a new problem, the screen just stays pitch black. I was reading around and some forums said i may have short circuited the lcd through ESD. so i ordered another lcd, i put a new one in thinking this would fix everything, but still the screen stays black. Im resending the lcd back and gonna get a replacement, hopefully the one i got was just faulty. Does anyone know if it could be something else thats causing the black screen?
Hello xda dev!
I bought a used One S z520, the seller said it's in very good condition, and there are no problems with it. When I finally got it, i noticed, that it really is in a good condition, no signs of use, the screen is clear, no scratches, even the outer shell shows no signs of use.
I turned the phone on, and wanted to connect to WiFi, but the keyboard wouldn't work on the left side (Q, A, Z, Shift etc). Then I noticed the touchscreen is dead on the whole left side. So I used ScreenTouch Test to determine where the dead spots are. And, well...
<PLEASE CHECK PICTURE IN ATTACHMENT>
This seemed very strange, because it doesn't look like these are random dead spots, but more like the screen calibration is way off... I tried resetting the calibration, but that did nothing. Then I went to the bootloader...
The bootloader was "LOCKED", but the phone was s-off and SuperCID'ed, yet it still was using a stock rom, which seemed strange to me, like someone did a hackjob returning the phone to a stock state for selling...
So here is my question: is it possible, that someone installed something wrong (I don't know, firmware, kernel, anything) and I can repair the touchscreen by replacing some part of the software? Or is it a hardware problem, and the touchscreen is dead and I should return the phone to the guy? I would much rather make it work, not go the easy way of returning, but if that is impossible...
Hello,
First of all i dont know if this is the right forum for my question. If not so please notice me.
After my Z5 dropped on the floor i got an broken Display. I bought a new Display and changed it, but i think i broke the LCD-Flexcable after i pulled carefully on it to get it inside the case. The effect is after phone turn on i get only the backlight but the screen remains black. So for a test i switched my old broken display in it but the effect is the same, only backlight and black screen. After a few seconds the phone led blinks 3 times red and the phone restarts. What the heck is now? Anybody get the same case? I handled the mainboard with care, dont remember to damaged the connector in anyway. Does the Flexcable needs to be protected with a tape so it couldnt be grounded on someway?
Sorry for my bad english. Thanks for any help!
After a second and a third display swap the error is still the same. It seems somehow i damaged the motherboard. I swapped the phone against a new one.
Please help, same problem ...
So i've been having a lot of issues with my N5 lately, mostly small stuff like general slowness, poor battery life, not surprising on an almost 3 year old phone. I also lose cell service way too frequently (not an issue with my carryer, all my friends are on the same network and are fine). Camera won't focus anymore (though im pretty sure this was my fault, probably broke it while taking it apart). I'm pretty sure the battery connector on my motherboard is damaged. I've had many problems with the battery reading its temperature as -30 C (battery heath "cold"), i've replaced the battery 4 times now and i still get that problem every now and then. Pushing on the connector fixes it temporarily, so im pretty sure some pin is bent slightly out of place and i don't know how to fix that. It recently started having this issue where just moving or bumping the phone the wrong way would cause the phone to shut off. Probably an issue with the battery connector again. I tried fiddling with it but it didn't do much.
The other day i turned it on and the LCD was backlit, but black except for one single vertical white line. Rebooted and it looked normal. Few hours later i got really pissed off with it for shutting off in the middle of an important text and threw it at the wall (not the best idea i know). Screen was already cracked so i didn't really care. Ever since then the LCD has been a real pain in the ass. i can turn the phone on but there's nothing on the screen. Ii get haptic feedback when the Google logo would up, and the notification LED is flashing like i have a message. The backlight is on and pushing hard on the cable connecting the motherboard to the daughter board i can see it start to turn on, (Google logo, few seconds of boot animation) but then back to black (while still backlit).
I can post photos if it would help diagnose/fix this, my phone is my main camera and i don't want to bother anyone if i don't have to.
Anyone know any tricks that might squeeze another mouth out of this dying phone? Any response is appreciated, Thanks!
The issues could have been related to the power button or physical internal damage. My suggestion: replace the screen with a cheap 3rd party screen if the internal components are still working. This will give you more time with your existing phone and allow you to have a working backup.
