1. Go to Settings -> Power and disable Fastboot.
2. Reboot the phone into the bootloader
3. Relock the bootloader by using the command "fastboot oem lock" from cmd (this is assuming you have the Android sdk on your computer, if you don't, go get it). I believe this causes your phone to reboot as well. If it does, just get back to the bootloader once it's done booting up again.
4. Enter Fastboot
5. Install HTC Sync on your PC (for drivers and such)
6. Connect your phone to your PC and let it install the drivers and what whatever Windows needs to do. You should see the text on your phone read FASTBOOT USB when it's done
7. Download the latest RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670238
8. Run the RUU (it's an exe, just run it like normal)
9. Follow the instructions and you'll be back to stock. The process takes like 10-15 minutes

Can I downgrade to 1.85?

You can if you have superCID, you can check by typing "fastboot getvar cid" and making sure it's 11111111 (uhhh...I think it's 8 digits, don't remember, it just has to be all 1's).

Is the process the same if you're on CleanROM 4.1 SE (1.85) or any other Custom ROM for that matter?

Yes, this are the instructions for returning to stock from any custom rom. Though, if you're on an AOSP based rom, you don't have to disable Fastboot in Settings -> Power (it's not there)

You mean you don't have superCID or you can't find your cid? Everyone phone has one (it's sort of an id number of sorts).
Go ahead and just run the RUU, it'll yell at you if you don't have superCID and try to downgrade. If it goes fine, then you're good.

I meant that i don't have supercid.

You won't brick it by running the RUU.

I'll just follow the steps you posted above and see if i can fix it.

Thanks for your help! I was able to flash back to stock :good:

How do you restore to stock AT&T One X?

Hi,
I can't run my run and it's the right one, 1.85 for AT&T.
Can someone tell me the pre-conditions that are necessary for the RUU to run?
All I did was relock the boot loader, and then run the RUU.
Did I miss a step? I had Cleanrom on my One X Before.
Should I have reflashed stock recovery first?
Thanks

1. relocked/locked bootloader
2. drivers for the phone both adb and bootloader
3. check your hboot version, it has to be lower or equal to the one in ruu
4. windows if you gonna run the .exe ...not flashing the zip using fastboot
optional:
1. supercid if you want run other carrier's ruu
2. downgrade... the firmware version number...many conditions apply to this...not gonna explain...
give us the error...so we can direct you better.

Here is the file that I am using: RUU_Evita_UL_Cingular_US_1.85.502.3_R2_Radio_0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L_release_262092_signed
Is that right? I have HBOOT-1.09.0000 on my phone now, Radio 0.17.32.09.12, opendsp v28.1.0.32.0504, emmc-boot Apr 2 2012, 21:08:24
I have wiped my entire OS, that is, I formatted my 10gb disk accidentally, so I've got no OS. I ran the RUU...and it says that I am going to move from 1.85.502.3 to 1.85.502.3; Then I see erasing....which goes ok, then it just says "sending....." for over half an hour. That's it.
Can I try to download the new RUU that was released a few days ago? http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ers-remapping-options-and-maybe-closing-root/
OK, so now I do not have an OS on my phone at all anymore. How do you recover from that?
I can no longer put even a cleanrom.zip onto my sdcard in order to re-flash that. I have cleanrom.zip on my sd card that I can see when mounted to the computer, but going into TWRP recovery doesn't allow me to see this file at all.
UPDATE: well, upgrading to the 2.20 version via the link from android police is all that I had to do. Go figure...
I just relocked my bootloader and then double-clicked the RUU. It worked as it is supposed to finally after wasting an entire evening...maybe my other version was incorrect or something (the 1.85 file that I had). Can't think of any other explanation.

[Q] Return to stock, relock bootloader, etc.

This phone might be sold, or given to someone who needs it completely stock, so my question is, how do i flash the stock recover/rom/kernel/etc, and relock the bootloader? Nothing has popped up under similar threads, and searches of the development section turned up nothing.
Gimme a hand
Relock bootloader with fastboot oem lock
Then run the ruu. Run 1.85 if you're on at&t
Keep in mind, it cannot be made completely stock. It will say RELOCKED on the bootloader screen, instead of LOCKED.

Since my specialty has been Winmo, Samsung, and ASUS devices, I'm not too familiar with those. Is there a tutorial or thread available for this? Or for more info? I assume the RUU is installed from the stock recovery, right? Returning to stock on the devices I used, usually involved flashing the stock recovery, then wiping/doing a factory reset from the stock recovery.
Mad props for the concise instructions.
1) connect your phone to PC
2) Ensure your pc has android sdk and usb debugging is enabled on your device
3) open command prompt -- Navigate to folder having android-sdk/platform-tools
4) run command "fastboot oem lock" - This should lock your bootloader
5) Place 1.85 RUU on root directory of your storage ( rename it as PH98IMG.ZIP )
6) Reboot to bootloader and it should read the RUU file.

Awesome, it's just an ADB command. Can I use the 1.85 update? I think I've been updated since I first wrote this via the cleaning aroma installer. Do I need to use that RUu, the one I used when I unlocked it? Or can I use whatever is the latest.

So do i place the 1.85 ruu (exe file?) on the device (named ph98img.zip), reboot into the bootloader, and it will do the rest automatically? Or do i have to choose an option in the bootloader?

I rebooted into the bootloader, and it's displaying "tampered, relocked"
So it seems, i've relocked the bootloader, i copied the 2.20 ruu over, and renamed it what i was supposed to, but the phone doesn't boot now. I've tried going to "recovery" from the bootloader menu, and i've tried "factory reset". Nothing's happening though.
How to hide or delete the red text on the second boot screen after unlock bootloader ?
One x has no ext. SD so that method isn't going to work without a powered y cable with card reader.....our Evita one x I'd not a ph9800 so its double not gonna work.......no Tom is going to give u official firmware update so Check hboot.....if ver. Is 1.14 use ruu 2.20....if ver 1.09 use ruu 1.85

the renaming of the ruu is incorrect, you can rename the rom.zip inside maybe and have it work that way.
best to just boot into bootloader and run "fastboot oem lock" then run the ruu and follow the steps.

This is an old thread from 3 months ago, the the original OP was confusing a lot of the terms and steps, so I would caution against doing anything he did, or chiming in on the thread and saying "my phone is doing the same". I'd suggest sticking to the other thread you started, and not confusing things more by posting here, too.

[Q] Question - step by step to install custom rom

Hi there, i am newbie HOXer
My phone is Roger HOX, i want to ask you guys how to install the cook rom for my phone ( like Viper)
As i know, we need to do:
1/ unlock bootloader
2/ turn off Fastboot
3/ install custom recovery (TWPR)
4/ install the custom rom
Is that correct or not? Do i need to do something else? I try to research in this forum but still not sure what i have to do. And 1 more question is after i install the custom rom, if i want to go back to stock rom, what should i do?
Here is my Roger HOX info:

Thank you very much for your help :good:
thats pretty much correct. i guess turn on usb debugging if you are wanting to use adb commands also.
also run "fastboot erase cache" when you flash recovery.
just run "fastboot oem lock" in bootloader and run the 1.94 ruu to get back to stock.

Couldn't he just make a back up of stock in TWRP? Seems easier than going to through the 15-25 min process of the RUU.
i always like going back to real stock first. i'm thinking of ruu'ing again soon. i do believe other things get dirtied up by flashing many many different roms that aren't cleared out by just wiping in twrp. ruu'ing just seems like spring cleaning imo.

I have a little bit confuse about your guide. When i unlock my bootloader, why i need to download your file and run it(Spoof-CID.bat)? Can i just follow the step on htcdev to unlock it?
The HTC dev website goes down quite a bit. So people have found ways to spoof the cid without that website.

[Q] Relock, RUU, Start Over?

Hi everyone,
I feel kind of bad for asking such a generic question like this, and I assure you that I have read around and done my research, but before I do potentially dangerous, irreversible, things to my device, I just want to make sure that I will perform the necessary steps correctly.
Basically, I have owned my HOX since launch date, and it came with either 1.73 or 1.85 base. As such, I rooted and unlocked the bootloader as soon as the exploits were available, and have been comfortably flashing ROMs and kernels every since. However, I have been experiencing some issues with data connectivity and stuff, issues that remain with any ROM, kernel, or radio that I flash. The details aren't important...
Now, I want to basically "start over" with my HOX. As if it was a brand new, unmodified, fresh device. So basically, unroot, relock bootloader, RUU, etc... And then start all over, root, unlock bootloader, install recovery, etc.....
Basically, what exact steps do I need to take to accomplish the "starting over"? As in the methods to use, the RUU to use, etc... ?
An outline of the steps, basically. My biggest fear is restoring to the wrong thing and losing my old HBOOT.
Again, I know this question probably gets asked often, but please bear with me through this.
I ruu'd my wife a and it was about 3 weeks before att sent her the next update lol. As long as you don't accept it you'll be fine. I'm sure you'd prolly root as soon as its finished anyway..
But you got it right. No need to unroot, just fire up fastboot and enter "fastboot oem lock". (Without quotes)
Figure out which ruu you need, most likely 1.85. Make sure you have the right HTC drivers updated, and make sure HTC sync is working right. Download ruu, which is an executable application, and run it. It should factory restore your phone like the day you bought it.
As far as restoring to the "bad" hboot, it shouldn't let you complete an ruu that's for another firmware other than what you had on it when you got root... So you'll be safe. Good luck bro, come back and let us know how it went

So basically relock the bootloader with "fastboot oem lock" , and then RUU, and I have a fresh new phone?
And for determining which RUU I need, either 1.73 or 1.85, if I try running the wrong one, it will stop me?
And since I'm still on the older HBOOT with the older initial base, root and unlock the same way I did originally?
And also, once I relock my boot loader, should I immediately RUU?
So a full outline would be:
Connect phone to computer ( with drivers and all)
Boot into fast boot
Relock bootloader with command
RUU
Let phone boot
Re-root
Re-unlock bootloader
Install recovery
Flash ROMS!
?
And just because it's been forever since I've done it, what are the steps again for RUUing? Do I need to boot the phone into any special mode? Or I just connect the phone to the PC and run the RUU?
And after I relock the bootloader, will the phone reboot out of fastboot or anything? Or should I go immediately from the relock phase to the RUU phase?
Thanks

And for determining which RUU I need, either 1.73 or 1.85, if I try running the wrong one, it will stop me? Yes, it'll throw an error when you try to go through the RUU install process.

And also, once I relock my boot loader, should I immediately RUU? Yes. There's not a lot else you really need to do (especially on bricked phones, not a lot you CAN do).
So a full outline would be:
Connect phone to computer ( with drivers and all)
Boot into fast boot
Relock bootloader with command
RUU
Let phone boot
Re-root
Re-unlock bootloader

And after I relock the bootloader, will the phone reboot out of fastboot or anything? - Nope, it'll stay in fastboot unless you reboot it.
Or should I go immediately from the relock phase to the RUU phase? - That makes things a little faster
Yep.. Run it from anywhere, as long as your computer recognizes your device let us know how it goes

Ok, thanks a lot.
I don't have a PC with me right now (mac user) but once I get the opportunity I will go through with this. Thanks again!
Im hoping this thread may help me to solve my problem (I'm a total noob too lol)
I rooted and flashed a Rom on my HTC One S, and I had the same issues as OP
Im with Fido, but I was told that both Fido and Rogers use the same RUU
Trying to go back to stock, I relocked the bootloader.
1. then I ran the RUU (found a tutorial online), but I got an error message (155: wrong RUU or file cant be larger or something like that)
2. then I tried an alternative method : extract 2 files from the RUU, move them to another folder and from there run a cmd; didnt work either
(By the way, in method number 1, I also had to flash a recovery file (stock recovery) during the bootloader unlock process)
Did I do it the right way?
Can some Senior member give me a detailed step by step method?

Hey what do you know
I have tried to do this multiple times, but no matter how many times a run the 2.2 exploit, and flash the unlock code bootloader continues to say relocked? any ideas
Yes, you need to check your pm. You need to hard reset the device. Hold power until device reboots, capacitive keys will flash during the process. Then run the unlock and you're device will unlock. I spent a full day to figure this out... Lol

scroll down to the stock ruu section and look up the firmware 2.2 not the hboot 1.14
Well, I'm the OP, and I ended up figuring out what RUU to use, which was 1.73. Basically, I ran 'fastboot oem lock' , then ran the RUU right afterwards, then booted up and ran the root exploit, rooted, and then ran 'fastboot oem unlock' using my old Unlock.bin file that I had from the very first time I unlocked the bootloader. From there, I installed a custom recovery and was good to go.
Yah, if your using 2.20 firmware, run the below link, works like a charm. Must make sure you re-lock the bootloader before, or it will error out. Just hold down the power button until it turns off if this happens.

And also, once I relock my boot loader, should I immediately RUU? Yes. There's not a lot else you really need to do (especially on bricked phones, not a lot you CAN do).
So a full outline would be:
Connect phone to computer ( with drivers and all)
Boot into fast boot
Relock bootloader with command
RUU
Let phone boot
Re-root
Re-unlock bootloader
Install recovery
Flash ROMS!
? - Yes, that's pretty much it.
And just because it's been forever since I've done it, what are the steps again for RUUing? Do I need to boot the phone into any special mode? Or I just connect the phone to the PC and run the RUU? - Connect to pc in fastboot usb and run it from there.
And after I relock the bootloader, will the phone reboot out of fastboot or anything? - Nope, it'll stay in fastboot unless you reboot it.
Or should I go immediately from the relock phase to the RUU phase? - That makes things a little faster

I did this, but my phone never boots. It just stays at the bootloader after i run the RUU. Any ideas? :/
Also, i get the "this build is for development purposes only" message under the HTC logo before the phone enters the bootloader.
EDIT: managed to get the bootloadr unlocked again via HTCDev.com and flashed recovery and ROM. Guess Im not starting fresh after all lol

[GUIDE] Back to Stock ICS for k2u & k2ul with S-Off

Back to Stock ICS for k2u & k2ul with S-Off
Hi there, as there are different news, we will get one more major update, there is a need to get back to the stock rom, cause otherwise the update will fail. Or maybe you want to sell your device or need to return for warranty, so you also need a stock phone.
And there is nothing more stock out there, than a RUU. But as we have no Jelly Bean RUU, we need to get the ICS RUU running to downgrade hboot first!
So we provide here an almost easy way to go to this condition and you only have to follow these steps, but do it careful, cause we need to downgrade hboot for that and this is very dangerous for your phone, if you are doing something wrong!
This guide is provided to you, with the help of Matlevo12, who made the files you need for downgrading hboot and tested the way. So give him a thanks for it!
This only works for "free" phones (unbranded) or if you have Supercid.

- kmdm for his ruuveal

Notice:
- This guide is for european k2u & k2ul. Don't do this on other HTC One SV devices, this will brick your phone.
- Be careful and download the correct file, check the md5 sum to get sure, the download is not corrupted.
- Make a backup of important files, before you do this, they are lost afterwards!
- This will not reset your CID, if you have changed it to SuperCID. So if you have SuperCID, follow this guide to change it back before you doing this! Your phone must be unbranded then.

Don't do this, if you are not experienced enough for it. You will do this on your own risk and we are not responsible for bricked devices!!!
Requirements:
- a phone with S-Off -> yes, you need S-Off (if you don't have it, look here for ICS and there for JB to get it.)
- the correct file for downgrading hboot
- the correct RUU for your device
- some time and coffee and some knowledge about fastboot commands

Download:
(be sure to download the right files for your device!)
For k2u (without LTE):
- k2uhbootdowngrade(renametoPL80IMG.zipbeforeuse).zip --> for downgrading hboot
md5 sum: 8b4ad0f238c5857367d4e074450b2262
- ICS RUU for k2u

For k2ul (with LTE):
- k2ulhbootdowngrade(renametoPL80IMG.zipbeforeuse).zip --> for downgrading hboot
md5 sum: 44f4acc65d299d8aa5b0da533515e421
- ICS RUU for k2ul

How to:
To downgrade hboot:
1.) Download the fitting zip file for your device
2.) Rename the file to PL80IMG.zip
3.) Copy it to your sdcard (external not internal)
4.) Reboot into bootloader and hit volume up when prompted

You maybe need to go to Settings -> Power first and untick the Fast boot (scroll down, last point on the page) that you can boot into bootloader!
To boot into bootloader:
If your phone is off, you need to power on & hold vol- at the same time.
Now the hboot should be downgraded to hboot 1.0 and most tricky part is done.
To flash RUU:
5.) Reboot your phone and connect it to pc
6.) Run the downloaded RUU.exe (you maybe have to start it as administrator) and follow the steps provided by HTC
If the RUU won't flash, relock your bootloader with fastboot cmd:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Click to collapse
After the RUU was running through you have stock ICS boot.img, recovery and system files installed. You are still S-Off, but with a "*** LOCKED ***" bootloader.
If you wanna get S-On, follow now step 7.) & 8.).
If you wanna update, now you can restart your phone and search for updates. Install one by one (first will be the jb updates) until you don't get update offers anymore.
If you want to get your device S-On:
7.) Connect your phone to pc and boot into fastboot mode.
8.) Open fastboot command window on your pc and type the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Click to collapse
Now you should be S-On.

CID error
Can anyone help me?
It is normal to use just a little leg and can't flash rom.
How should I do now?
Thanks much.
When do you get that cid error ?
What cid are you ?
my CID is Orange1 or something similar, can I still use this method to be able to get myself an unbranded version of JB on the device?
Conan_troutman :
Well no, use the "unbrand your phone..." guide in the same section.
I think this only work for "free" phones or if you have supercid.

Painterok :
Your phone is branded, unbrand it first if you want to, or downgrade using files from your brand's ruu.
Why do you want to downgrade ?
Thanks much

Thanks much again for reply.
At first, I must say that my English is not good enough, sorry.
Downgrade just for 2 way recording, because I need this function very much on the business. When 4.0.4, it's ok, but update to 4.1.2 it is unable to use.
Now, my phone can also be used, but not smooth.
How to unbrand it (sorry, Idon't understand what does branded mean) or what Ican do now?
Dear Matlevo12, Thanks very much.
S-off and RUU update went smooth but I no longer can enter Recovery menu. It shows an exclamation mark surounded by red triangle.
k2ul unbranded phone here and used RUU update file acording to my phone model.
Which S-off?
I upgraded to JB and want to bring ICS back. Old.splatterhand, you said we need S-off so which one do I need please?
Thanks a lot for sharing! :good:
As you are on JB you must use Moonshine S-off.

Hello all, sorry for bothering you again old.splatterhand, but before doing it I want to be sure I'm understanding things in the right way.
So after step 6, I will be done and should have ICS back, that's it? Thanks

Alright then, thank you Matlevo12!
Pure JB Rom, Kernel, Recovery, etc.
I got the JB stock Rom, Kernel, Recovery, etc. Just got to place it on your external sdcard. Its completely fresh without touching it. Just like you gotit from the box. This is for k2_cl, it may work for others but not tested. Need atleast 1.02 gigs available on external sdcard. Once placed there just boot into custom recovery. I used TWRP and I recommend it. Not a fan of CWM. Once in recovery just click on restore then select the pure JB folder. It comes with MD5 files so be sure to check the verification box so when doing this it will confirm its integrity prior to proceeding further. After verification it will proceed on and wipe everything out as it restores. Then reboot. Keep in mind that this is a fresh 4.1.2 JB stock. You will lose root but you can easily get it back by downloading supersu on Google play. Voila. Will have to upload tonight then will share resource on here. Once available have at it. I don't request credit for it or anything. Just want it out there for people who messed there phone up or failed to get a copy for themselves.
There are already copies of this for k2_cl in old.splatterhand's thread in original android development
