3G frequencies - General Questions and Answers

I have a question about 3g frequencies among all carriers. If I have a device for example which supports these Frequencies
Device:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
And say I wanna use this device on T-mobile
T-Mobile USA 850/1900 for 2G/EDGE - 1700/1900 3G/HSPA
And I am only receiving EDGE on T-mobiles network is this because I am missing the 1700 frequency on my device? For all carriers listed 3g frequencies must the phone your using have both those frequencies to be able to get a 3g signal?

what are the t mobile sensation bands ?

what is the phone bands in 2g network and what in 3g network ?
thanks !!
I believe these are accurate.
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
You will be able to get 3G on T-Mobile in the US and on European networks, but it will not work on other North American carriers like AT&T, Rogers, Telus, etc. On those networks, you will get standard GSM/EDGE (2G) service.
it has 2100 in 3g for sure ?

Yep. Check out the product specs from the HTC website. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to the section titled Network.

[Q] Data usage/frequency (3G)

I got Nexus S on ATT and I have tried it with a TMobile SIM (got surprised because phone isn't locked...) but it works on 2G only.
I'm wondering if it will work properly (as 3G) in Europe. Does it cover 900 and 2100?
What is ATT's data frequency? Is it 2100?
thanks !
I'm gonna reply to my own topic: according with Wiki ATT uses 850 MHz and 1900 MHz for UMTS (3G) that means ATT (unlocked) phone will work as 2G in Europe (2100 MHz)
On the other hand, T-Mobile's frequencies are 1700 MHz (uplink) and 2100 MHz (downlink).
Does it mean a T-Mobile phone will be able to work properly on Europe's 3G networks (2100 MHz?

[Q] Using 3g Argentina (Movistar) [WCDMA 850?]

Hi! I've bought this phone (SGH-T959V) from T-Mobile on USA, and when I went to Argentina, I found that the carrier that I have (Movistar) mixes the frequencies or something like that.
It uses GSM 850 / 1900 and UMTS 850 / 1900. By default, my phone can't use 3g (neither HSDPA) from this carrier.
Dialing *#*#197328640#*#* And going to Network Control > Band Selection, I can choose which frequencies to enable / disable.
If I disable GSM 850, and enable all the rest, I can get to use 3g on the 1900 Mhz, but I get much lower signal.
The frequencies that I can enable / disable from this menu are:
GSM 850
GSM 900
FCS 1800
PCS 1900
WCDMA 2100
WCDMA 1700
WCDMA 1900
I don't know how this works, I want to use my phone and be able to use 3g / HSDPA / HSDPA+ / 4g if possible..
I think that I need to find a way to enable WCDMA 850 on my phone.. Is it possible?
I am using the last upgrade from Kies (Gingerbread) 2.3.6
Do I have to flash a new modem? I've searched for available modems for this phone, but none of them say anything about enabling WCDMA 850 frequency
When I go into Settings - Wireless and network - Mobile networks - Network mode it has a GSM/WCDMA (auto mode)
Have you tried that?
Yes, I've tried that, that option is enabled!
In the GL9003L model (Samsung Galaxy S too) from this country, the WCDMA 850 option is enable (also the WCDMA900). Isn't there a way to add that frequency to my phone >.< ?
The hardware doesn't support UMTS 850 which you said is used by your carrier's 4G. You won't be able to use this phone on their 4G network.
Buh, so there's no way to change the frequencies it uses?
Sucks I can't use 3g (not 4g, 3g!!!) on my country
No you won't be able to. According to this page, these are the frequencies available on the phone:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_4g-3719.php
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 1700 / 2100

Your network will have to be running on exactly those frequenices to get 3G/4G
I think that is wrong.. I have another carrier that works on the 850 / 1900 band and I CAN user their 3g (mostly because I can connect to the 1900 band..), but I can't use HSDPA+.
So:
with one carrier, Movistar, that uses UMTS 850 / 1900 I can't use 3g, it only connects to the EDGE network, and when I dial *#0011# with the GSM bands disabled it says that the 3g service is limited and I can't use it at all.
With the other carrier, Personal, that uses the same bands, I can use 3g on the 1900 band, but can't use HSDPA or the 850 band.
Also, from the #*#*193728640#*#* menu I can choose the UMTS 1900 band.
I've a similar problem the difference is a got 3G but not 4G and can't figure out what is going on. I'm with digicel and the only use 1900 wich is already enabled. I once tried movistar and had the same problem I suggest you another carrier
This's my problem:

Do not trust phonearena as it has wrong information about our device frequencies that it can use.
umts 1700,2100,1900
So basically no, you won't get anything else than edge on those 850/900 frequencies.

How compatible frequencies/bands with Tmobile?

This may have been answered elsewhere, but I can't find it.
Just trying to understand something. I'm wondering if I can get a better signal with Tmobile if I use a phone that has a 1900 band on the 4G network. What I'm saying is, it looks like the Skyrocket doesn't support Band 2 for LTE on Tmobile's network. Is this correct? Does flashing your radio affect which bands you use for 3G vs 4G?
I'm supposedly "in the service area" for LTE on Tmobile, is why I ask, but I have never gotten a signal until I go closer to town. I'm within the edge of the "coverage" map. I realize those maps are optimistic. Have always used this phone here, but ATT works for people and the towers are in the same location as far as I know. Rural area.
Thanks for any help :fingers-crossed:
Skyrocket's bands are:
i727(r) freg's:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100
Tmobile uses:
LTE Frequencies:
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2 (in refarmed areas)
Lower 700 MHz band 12 (in development) / in service in selected areas
3G/4G Frequencies (WCDMA):
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2 (in refarmed areas)
2G Frequencies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE):
1900 MHz PCS band 2

Does the Skyrocket have a 1900 LTE Band?

From the [REF] 1-stop Thread:

It looks like the Skyrocket doesn't use 1900 on LTE? Is that correct?
The reason I ask is because I'm on T-Mobile, and in my area, I can't get 4G inside some of the coverage map. I am assuming that I don't get Band 2 for T Mobile, which uses 1900 Mhz PCS. However, Tmobile also uses 1900 for 2G and 3G, which the Skyrocket supposedly supports. Am I missing something? Thanks. :good:
