Call echoing on ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Ever since I've updated to ics, people have been complaining about their voices echoing when they call. Any way to fix this?

There are 2 solutions that I know of:
1 - People have posted that certain cases cause the issue. If there's a case on your Skyrocket, try removing it and see if that helps.
2 - Certain ROM's have a built in feature called "noise suppression". This has also been reported as a working "fix" for the issue. I've had issues with the echoing as well, and noise suppression seems to have fixed it. If you're running stock ICS, I don't believe it has the feature available.

Yes I actually had ALL volumes turned up while testing it out but still no luck, I tried to set different ringtones but I got no luck still..... so, is there some kind of setting that I'm missing somewhere? Because a vibration for texts is nice when I'm at work or some other time when my cell is usually on vibrate but no sound at all not even as an alternative just sucks armadillo shell

Call echo

Several people have reported that they hear an echo when ever I call them. I've tried Kelvins adt ROM and now using aliens ROM and still the same issue. Any body else having this issue or any idea on a possible way to fix it?

If you are using a case, try removing it and running naked. Several of us have had bad echo problems on our SRs with a case on. When removed, no more echo.

CM7/MIUI low microphone gain permanent fix/solution

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has found any solution to overcome the CM7/MIUI low microphone gain issue during voice calls?
The other party on the line barely can hear me during voice calls.
Have searched a lot and haven't found any fix except for the hit mute/unmute during call to temporary (only applies to that call) fix the problem.
Is there any other solution, like replacing system audio driver files from stock/other ROM to fix the low microphone gain issue permanently (well, at least till the next flashing)?
Never had any issue on stock Froyo or Gingerbread. However, not intent to return to stock due to this issue.
I'm on the July 15 baseband with Wind mobile in Canada. Currently using MIUI 2.3.2 with Faux123 048 kernel. Tried stock CM7, Trinity kernels, no go.
My wife has the same phone/system, however she is still on the June baseband. Same low Mic issue applies to hers as well.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, using GetRIL with the recommended, matching v21e RIL on July 15 baseband on mine. Problem still present. :-(

I would love for something as well, this issue seems to be out there for some others phones as well on CM7, i believe their intentions were to reduce background noise. Either way, if anyone steps in that'd be great. I have searched through build props, and system folders looking for anything that says "mic" I got nothing lol. If anyone has any thing they think I should search through I have time today so give me any ideas.

Couldn't agree more! I found as well that it has something to do with CM7's reduced microphone gain values to prevent voice distortion. Read about library file libaudio.so might as well "involved".
It is not that significant, however I'm using the phone frequently for voice calls and always mute/unmute is a little annoying.
I customized, fine tuned everything else to my needs and if this thing would finally get sorted as well i could lay back and fully enjoy my device (kidding, still would messing around with flashing around).

Exactly my thoughts, that's my only true complaint about CM7. People don't seem to realize it though I don't know if they are the type that always talk loud or what lol... but I definitely noticed and know its true cause I restored my 2.2 left my self a voicemail & recorded with voice record... and then went CM7 and left a voicemail and voice recording and it was crazy different playing through speakers and through earpiece. So I don't know what else to do....

yup, I tried GetRIL and tried all the different RILs (rebooting after installing each) and no difference. It's definitely something in the CM code. Somehow it doesnt react well with this phone's mic setup.
hope it gets fixed cause i'm never going back to stock.... soooo slow

Hi mt3g,
Read that you're using ICS. Just wondering if you feel any improvement mic/voice-wise compared to CM7? If so, which kernel are you using it with?
Thanks in advance for your input!

Part of this problem is the ROM and part of it is the kernel. CyanogenMod had this really bad at one point and they fixed it a little with a kernel tweak and then improved it a little more with a change in some of the audio drivers. So, it is hard to get it right. I have not really ever had this problem and I have been running MIUI GB based with the Trinity Kernel by Morfic (if that helps anyone).
Ya all of what I presumed it seems to be a hit or miss but it isn't just the g2x, which made me believe that it really is an issue even though people don't have it. I don't talk loud on the phone but maybe I need to start lol... either way willing to deal with it... p.s. I had the issue on all miui roms all kernels no matter what I tried.

Bump
There's an excellent initiative from r4d14n7 resolving this issue.
If you affected by this low mic problem, please read the OP in his thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633966
and leave your feedback for the CM team. Hopefully it well be sorted.

Audio Echo on Phone Calls

I am having a minor issue with my phone. When I make or place calls the person on the other end says that they hear an echo. I have tried to clear and reflash my rom but still having an issue. I am running SKY-ICS 4.2F-6 with the latest update on AT&T using the UXCLF3 radio. could the radio be causing the problem? Any help would be great.
could be the radio, location you are in, hardware problem, or if you have a case on the phone

I am going to try the UCLF5 radio and kernal and see if that makes a difference.
It happens in many different locations so I ruled that out first. I thought it was the Microcell in my office but when I was at a different location they still heard it.
I am hoping it's not a hardware problem.
I do have a case but the problem just started a few weeks ago and was trying to figure it before I posted here for help.
Thanks for the help..

In ics you have to turn it off from the menu while you're in the call, every call. It sucks.

There is no option for noise suppression when I go to call settings while in a phone call. I guess there might not be a fix for this then. Might have to go out for repair then.

Does anybody know if the speaker phone echo has been resolved in jb builds

I was just wondering if anybody knows if the speaker phone echo on the other end of the line has been resolved on the aosp builds. I searched through forums and most of the time the question doesn't get answered. I would appreciate the help

I can tell u that it has NOT been fixed. I have tried every version of Cm10/AOSP ROM out there. Some people really dont have the problem but most do and dont realize that they will never hear an echo. The person u ate talking to will hear themselves echo when u have them on speakerphone

Odds are it won't ever be fixed as the noise cancelation code is closed source 3rd party code that Samsung licenses.
Playing with the mic gain settings can act as a workaround.

I'd say that's a little overzealous to state that most people have it and don't know it. Most people just plain don't have it, and they know they don't have it. Its different on a phone by phone basis, but most people do not have it, as the other people have indicated in here.
I did have it on cm10 until about a month ago, then never again since then. And yes, people are very aware that only the other line can hear it, I've talked to my wife and brothers and asked them many many times if they can hear an echo when talking to me and everyone reports that everything is fine. Even echo on speakerphone works flawless. I'm sorry for your guys' frustrations.
I have this issue too, even when not on speakerphone. When I turn the volume down it seems to fix it so it seems to me its feedback. Any ideas?
