What is the best PDF Magazine Viewer App for Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have lately been looking at a lot of magazines in PDF format on my tablet. I use the regular adobe reader app and also my quick office app to view them sometimes, However I'm looking for a app that is more Organized. By organized i mean, I want all my pdf magazine files to be within the app and im able to actually to select it from there, maybe with a Thumbnail preview of the Magazine. I currently have to go to file viewer, find that magazine i want to read and then click on it and tell my device which app to open it with. Is there any app that will display my PDF files in an organized fashion?

I tried perfect viewer and ther is a whole lot of Lag. Is there a certain way to do the settings for it not to lag. When i use adobe and quick i get no lag at all. However i dont get the book shelf effect with those apps.

Thanx to all who have helped me.

perfect viewer always rescans whenever you restart it and takes 20-30 secoonds unless you uncheck rescan on startup in options.I use this mostly for reading comics and bizarre mag which is in pdf.Repligo reader is also another good option.

[Q] Galaxy tab eBook app

Hi All,
I just bought Galaxy tab and I am loving tab eBook app, not just because of animations but because of few important features like dictionary which is not available in Readers Hub Kobo.
One quick question- How can I purchase and import books in Tab ebook App. There is no download/buy button.
I have downloaded few books in kobo but I would like to open them in Tab's eBook app. Please help how can I do that.
You can't, those are 2 differents apps. And could you be so kind to post the apk of the ebook reader? I lost mine while upgrading my firmare. And I really loved the old book theme
Should be in /system/app/Ebooks.apk
Thanks again, kind sir

Just use Calibre for your ebook needs... It can't get them for you, but it can organize it for you and convert from almost any format to almost any format.... Also it can download cover and meta data...
You just have to download a book, import it, ( edit meta data), convert it, send it to the device, and read.

Sorry, Could you guide me bit more. When I click download Epub from website, i got URLLink.acsm file which I can open in Adobe digital edition. I am not able to convert in to tab supported epub using Calibre.
If I remember it well (I currently haven't the ebook reader installed - looking for a deodexed version) you can import ebooks very easy by creating a folder on your sdcard called Digital Editions and place your epub books in there. Maybe you have to reboot before they show up.
(Could be that you first have to sign up for the online store)
Guys could you please just guide me how can i download epub format book.

Just download the acsm file, open it with Adobe digital editions. Go to My Documents/My Digital Editions and there you have your epub files.
(Hope you didn't found that out yourself while I'm writing this)

I always remove the drm protection from the eBooks I buy. Just to prevent this kind of problems. I use this method: http://www.dvdvideosoftware.org/guide/remove-drm-from-adobe-epub.html
Maybe there are some better ways nowadays. Just search for it.
BTW isn't it possible to set your adobe id in the eBook app?

Which format are ebooks that have animation when flipping pages?
Sent from my GT-P1000M using XDA App
To get it back you have to change the product code back to something like CPW. This worked for me.
The code was something like *#232*IMEI#. Check the forum if thats not the one.
After that factory reset (you will loose everything!), youll be good to go

The flipping pages animation isn't part of the ebook format (although most ebooks are ePub format) that's just something the ebook reader does or doesn't do. Laputa does it but when you flip backwards it's the same animation. The Nook software is the best for the US for accurate animation.

[Q] Google Books Storage Location

Does anyone know the location of an eBook once you tell it to make it available offline?
Or
I've got some eBooks that I would like to make available to the Books app on the XOOM, where do I put them?
You beat me to it, I was just wondering the same. I have several thousand books I would like to be able to drop in.

It appears to be a proprietary book format, but I don't know enough about it for sure.
Each book is split up into many different files. I've transfered it to my computer to investigate it further, but I've had no luck.
I went looking when I first got the Xoom because I wanted to put my book collection in there.
Someone smarter than me will have to figure out how to do that!
The only alternative I've found so far is using Aldiko (ebook reader from the Market). You store the eBooks on the XOOM and import them into the app. I would prefer to use Google Books however.
That's incredibly frustrating. Even iBooks allows you to add your own epub. If Google Book a can't that's a huge setback for me. I read a couple hours a day on my tablet.

The nook app has a very similar page turn animation and I think the app in general looks better on honeycomb than both kindle and google books. Maybe give that one a try!

Nook is only available to US users (and maybe certain other countries, but I'm not sure). People outside of US can't download nook. You have to find a way to sideload it to your Xoom if you are not in the US.
And Nook has problems displaying book covers from my own epubs. So I'm sticking to Kindle but converting to mobi format may be a hassle to some.
How did you manage to successfully import your mobi files to Kindle?
I have tried copying the files to the SD card location which makes them appear in the app but the app crashes when I try to open them. I have also tried opening them with the Kindle app from my file manager. Again, this was unsuccessful.
Thanks for your help in advance!
iReader?

have u guys tried iReader?
awesomely free!
I know its been awhile since this was last commented honest and maybe Google has updated Play Books since the last comments, regardless im pretty sure that it now doesnt matter where you get your digital content. Play Books will permit you to upload them and read across multiple devices. I have a fairly decent collection and i go back and forth between my Note III & Note VIII. If the book that you want to read isnt on the particular device that your using, Play Books downloads it. I have been unsuccessful in finding the default directory for the appand it was that very question that brought me to this post. :good:

Best app for reading pdfs?

i have a book in the form of a .pdf that id like to read, whats the best app for that?
I've tried a few, but always seem to go back to using Acrobat.
I've used a few also but for some reason none of them will save my page. Tried on my tab and phone.
Does this happen to anyone else?
ezpdf reader works well for me. allows bookmarks and saves the page you were on, along with a text reflow.
Both ezpdf and beamreader work great for me. Try both these apps as IMO they are better than the adobe reader app!!

best pdf reader in market

So i want to know what is the best pdf reader in market. One feature I really want is one available on the i pad. This feature is where you can make a 3 by 3 matrix for a total of 9 pages. The reason I want this i have college textbooks on my kfire and when I want to locate something fast I can scroll 9 pages at a time instead of one. Anyone know of such an app?
I use EzPDF Reader, and its really cool because if you click on 'RECENT' it allows you to see all your documents like in iBooks, then open a specific document and click on Thumbnail view,
Hope it helps,

App for reading and writing/highlighting in PDFs?

Hi!
One of the main reason I bought this particular tablet was to easily read and highlight in PDFs when I study. Since it got this wonderful pen I thought it would be simple to use fingers for zoom/pan etc and the pen to highlight but I've not found any app with that functionality. Of course I can go in a menu and select highlight but I want to use the stylus as an "always on highlight" marker.
ezPDF seems to do the trick but I can't tell, anyone who tried it and can tell if it works well or have any other recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

I am looking for the same. I have to read and highlight many pdf documents. I have tried Officesuite pro, no luck, and Polaris, no luck. Adobe reader lets me highlight but its clumsy and highlighted text isn't shown if I open the pdf in another program afterwards.

I also use ezPDF. Great app.
So, I've tired ezPDF but I can't get the main function I requested to work. I can annotate and highlight, sure. But the program doesn't tell the difference between my finger and the pen so I can't use the pen as a constant highlighter and the finger to navigate through the pages. Can this be done using the application? This is critical, I have apps to view and annotate in PDFs that are at least as good as ezPDF, but none with that functionality.
Thanks!

I have purchased many pdf reader/editors... ezpdf, repligo, moon pdf, iannotate and so on..
The reason - I spent most of the time reading and editing pdf...
I also need to edit a lot of pdf which are scanned documents as pictures.. Ezpdf does the job best becoz of pre rendering the pages...
Over the years ezpdf has come on top.
However u cannot get the option of fully disabiling finger touch and use only stylus in any of the good pdf readers...
But the good thing is that when you use stylus, palm rejection works. The important thing is that you have to make sure the stylus is close to the screen before you rest the palm on the screen...
This works well for me... today I spent about 7 hours doing edits, the way in mentioned above and no issues..
They should work with lecturenotes developer. Lecturenotes allow making annotations using stylus while at the same time finger scrolls and controls zooming.

Thanks for your post! Well I'm starting to think that you are right, there is no app that allows me to use the pen as an always active highlighter.
I use LectureNotes for everything but pure books in pdf because I think it's as close to perfection as a note taking app could be. But import and handle 1000p PDFs is a no go and when flipping page is the main activity there are a lot better apps. At all lecture PDFs (10-20p) that we get LectureNotes is great, it allows you to mark and annotate in the PDF as well as easily inserting a page between if you need more space for notes.
What I want though, isn't just palm rejection. I still want to be able to switch page with my fingers. I want the program do treat my fingers and pens differently though, just like I sit with a book in one hand and a highlighter in the other when reading course literature I want to sit with my tablet in one hand and my stylus in the other. But the more programs I try, the less I think this is possible.

I totally agree, make the insertion and more importantly handling when switching pages of large PDFs more easy on LectureNotes and you got exactly what I'm looking for. Of course, keeping the bookmarks and be able to use them in a simple way is important as well. And it needs a little "read mode", because when I have one finger pan enabled I cannot rest my palm on the screen without accidently pan the page and I can't get the page flipping as smooth as every PDF reader. You know the, swipe your finger over the screen and it's getting to the next or previous page.

I wrote to the developers of both iAnnotate and ezPDF to recommend a fuller incorporation of the S-pen in annotating PDFs. Would love to see LectureNotes style ability to use the stylus to write and the finger to scroll at the same time. (Or perhaps have LectureNotes handle PDFs as more than bitmaps!). The folks from iAnnotate said they would consider it, so perhaps if more people write in and suggest it, they'll see that there is a good market for this.

Great initiative! Considering the amount of Note devices both in the phone as well as the tablet versions samsung has sold and probably will be selling there should be plenty of potential users for such an app. But to me, since most of my PDFs are for a specific class that I have notes for as well having all together in LectureNotes would of course be the best solution even if I think such features in LectureNotes isn't coming any time soon.

Adobe reader 10.4.2 allows reading and highlighting with pen it also has freehand drawing, adding text, text striking and note insertion along with other features. Tested with my note 10.1 and works great.
ezPDF works fine for me, and I do use it everyday for annotating my academic PDFs. I'm surprised how awesome it works for highlighting (are yo umaybe doing something wrong?), and I've gotten really quick at it. I have set the option to recognize palm in the settings. You can still change pages (or visualized column or whatever) either with the page button or with two fingers (holding the stylus, I find tapping on the next page button is the quickest). I often annotate and I love the possibility of freehand writing (somehow, it makes me feel like my PDFs are scanned versions of printed copies I've written on!), and for this I always use the pen (and not the pencil).
The only complaint I might have is that it takes a second to save the annotations when you change a tool, but that's fine for me.
Let me know if you need any other info!
Surely this isn't impossible, or even difficult for the devs of any pdf reader to include?
Obviously I am not a developer so I am guessing at this, palm recognition etc measure the surface area/pixels/electrical connections made simultaneously? If I am broadly correct then is it not possible to have settings that recognise palms( lets say 500 pixels or more) , fingertips(less than 50 but greater than 10 pixels) and stylus, with its considerably smaller surface area, as say 10 pixels or less?
Am I being very naive?
