Zune Pass & Marketplace US - Accessing from UK - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Got a question that I'd like some guidance on.
Got a Lumia 710 the other week - great phone - and recently signed up for a trial period of Zune Pass (where you can download tracks and such for "free")
However - I had to reset my phone a couple of days ago and set it to link to a US Live Account I used to have by mistake.
As a result of this I got the extra Zune Music features in the player such as Artist Bios, Album Reviews, Smart DJ, etc.
I noticed that once I re-hard reset my phone back to the UK those features have disappeared.
So the question I have is - is there any way to either unlock these features under my UK phone setup (via a hack or other method) - or is there a way to be able to access them via the US setup, but still be able to purchase apps and music. Or is there a third way (the best of both worlds) to be able to have the phone setup in US mode, but be able to purchase items with a UK card (be it directly out of Microsoft or via a third party selling "giftcards" - as you can do with the iPhone)

They're tied to the Live ID. It may be possible using some high-privilege hacks (on a Lumia 710, this would require intalling a custom ROM) to change that region your phone things it's in, but I don't promise that will help with getting the services from the server.
I find the whole regional thing incredibly annoying, but apparently the world has a surplus of lawyers and some of them decided that more money could be made if contracts for such services were written with stupid regional restrictions in place.

Hi,
I have a UK Zune pass, tied to a UK Hotmail I.D. and a UK debit card, and whilst Album reviews and Artist Bios are not available, the Smart DJ feature is.
Hope that helps.

Set it up like mine. We're kinda in the same boat but I'm in NZ and we DO NOT have Zune Pass.
I have mine set up with a US account, I use a legal US address with permission from the owner, and a valid US number. Although I use an NZ visa debit card, only it charges me after the currency has been converted from USD to NZD. All works ok, but in Xbox I cannot purchase MS points as the address I have in my account, and the address on my debit card are different, hence verification fails. But this can be solved by purchasing prepaid cards or via zune software so not really a big deal for me.
And regarding to your post, the features are tied to the country of your account is set to. Not Live ID but Zune Account and Xbox Live share the same information. You can change the country of your Live ID but this WILL NOT change the country of your Zune or Xbox Live account. So if you want a full-pledged windows phone, you're better off with a US account, but if you want your phone to go local and loyal to your country, then set it up as UK. In my case, NZ has barely any features, its like having a stripped down version of windows phone - no zune pass and those other zune features, no bing music, no IE tap-to-call, no US apps like iheartradio or netflix.

[Q] Tracking lost Smartphone

Hi guys
I'm relatively new to the world of smartphones
but here is my question:
so i bought an HTC wildfire S, lost it and bought a new one
i did block the simcard via my provider (O2) and got a new card for my new phone,
so yesterday i went on the android market to install some apps, and there i saw that my old (lost one) phone was still listed but under another provider (Vodafone)
I contacted vodafone, gave them my imei and asked them to give me contact information from the user because the phone had been stolen
I can still install apps on the stolen phone via android market, is there an app that i can install on the stolen phone that enables the gps device and allows me to track it? the htcsense.com tracker does not work and lookout needs to be registered
thanks alot!
i used the search form but did not find anything to solve my problem
/edit: so vodafone cant block the phone or give me the contact adresses...
I know there are apps that you can install , such as the ones listed here: http://www.androidtapp.com/5-best-a...ndations-from-the-experts-at-androidtapp-com/
But I don't know if you first have to configure them on the phone before you can use them.
I think when such info as location is involved, you will always have to tick the accept/allow screen on the device.
I dont think its possible to push it by ota/remote install etc.
Would be a massive security breach if it could huh.
if you can stil install apps, try

[Q] windows marketplace in Sweden

I live in Sweden and Windows phone marketplace insists on only allowing me access to apps it decides are available in Sweden, even free apps.
I was able to download the kindle reader app on my Android from Sweden but Microsoft says it is "not available in your region" when I try to download it on to my Nokia lumina 800.
I have had a chat session with Amazon who say it is Microsoft blocking it and the Microsoft forum say it is Amazon.
This is really hacking me off, as I use the app to read on trains etc.
I was able to get the skype app yesterday without going through the marketplace where it is still not available. I was wondering if anybody has an idea as to how to get the kindle app other than via the marketplace
Thanks Rick
I also live in Sweden and i found some apps that i want and have on my android phone, but due to region restrictions i cant download to my phone.
Its kinda big deal for me not being able to get the apps i want and im willing to pay for.

[Q] Paid apps on new phone

If I change my windows phone with another one, will my paid apps be available on the new phone to download without paying again?

Your apps are associated to your windows live account. So changing phone should not be a problem.

As long as you use the same Live ID, you will get them again without paying. When you go to Marketplace, go to your purchased app, click buy, it will verify that you bought it and say 'You've already purchased this app, do you want to reinstall it?' - say yes!
You can also see a list of your purchased apps (and reinstall them) using the Marketplace website.
You dont have to pay for the apps you already bought if you use the same Live id. To make it easy, use the Reinstaller app for Windows Phone http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/apps/b9d1115b-2c0d-4e5d-afc6-fa6dcd84dda4
Well..i never bought the paid apps, there were some deals with free for 2 days and i purchased them then. Now, they cost, i thought i could reinstall them on my new phone but it says i have to buy..
Apps are purchased by their ID, a GUID that every app has. It's possible that the free apps you "bought" were using different GUIDs than the normal Marketplace ones. In that case, you can try checking the Marketplace website for the list of apps that you previously installed and try reinstalling the free ones, but if they've taken the copies with the other GUID off of the Marketplace, you won't be able to get them again.
It sucks, I know. The backup/migrate/restore story on WP7 is really bad. I actually raised this issue with Microsoft several times (both as "we need this" and as "this is a reason to no block high-privilege homebrew code; we could do this for you" and received no meaningful response except for one guy I know who works there saying "yeah, this is an issue, but it's not in my area; I sent it on to the right people."

Anyone having the same problem as me?
I originally signed up for All Access using a US credit card.
Now that it's available in Canada, I can't switch.
My Google Wallet seems tied to the US.
I was able to change my home address, add and verify a Canadian credit card, set it as default.
But when I try to re-activate All Access, it won't recognize it, and the currency still shows up as USD.
Isn't there a way to change this ?

I will contact them. I'd rather have my Wallet account migrated (they can switch currency, but manually).
I use one Google account for everything; including Play Store, Android, Gmail, Google+, Photos, YouTube, etc. so creating a new account just to get music is out of the question.

any luck for you?
I think I'm in same boat as you. But I never signed up for All Access before. I simply enabled Google Music while I was in USA and kept using it for uploading music and claim free music.
Now I'm trying to sign up and it just give me USD price, however if I want to buy any music, it works fine as my default cc is selected and Buy button is blue. While signing up for All Access shows no supported method of payment and Buy button is grayed out.
I'll give support call as well.
For a limited time, you can get a 60 day free trial by clicking here: http://g.co/PlayMusicCA
I got this link from Google Play's official Google+ page. (See here: https://plus.google.com/+GooglePlay/posts/FQPxSoP5kE4)
None the less I'm excited that Google Play Music is finally available in Canada. Now all we need are TV Shows and GPE devices!

No resolution yet, but apparently, there are thousands of users with this problem (method of payment is greyed out when attempting to sign up for All Access, and Google Wallet thinks we're trying to buy a US subscription). I got the issue escalated to technical/engineering, and I hear reports of users with the same response. They will manually change our Google Wallet account to CAD currency.
There seems to be another bug with people who have a Google Play balance in USD (from an old Nexus purchase in the US, or a US gift card). Those users can't be switched. But Google is working on a fix to allow them to convert their balance in another currency, and therefore, be able to switch subscriptions to their home country.

So I called em too. Got same response, gonna put my name in list of people who have this problem.
So today I was finally able to subscribe to All Access. 60 days free promo worked as well.
I'm also enjoying 60 days free trails, its just marvelous...
Just an update for anyone following this :
As of June 11th, Google has issued a fix that prevented users from changing their home address in Wallet if they had a Google Play balance..
We're pushing a fix for one of the issues that was preventing users from updating their Wallet home address. Starting today, having a Google Play balance should no longer prevent you from changing your Google Wallet home address.

I was able to re-subscribe to Google Music All-Access on the Canadian side, and also got the promo price of $7.99, which is good until June 30th.

Ghost in the machine

WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED TO ANDROID?
Background:
Running a Samsung Galaxy J3v sm-337v (cheapest smartphone Verizon sells outright $168!) If anyone has info on rooting this phone LMK (told impossible)
My last phone was an unlock Blu (crap spy company)
Verizon doesn't allow unlocked non-verizon phones-VoLTE not authorized
The want to lock us in to thier bloatware/spyware.
I am on per-gig plan.
My phone is configured to allow as few permissions as possible. Default for most preinstall apps is to "allow modify system and allow draw over apps" yikes!
Disabled auto sync on all gmail, play, everything is manual sync.
Disabled all advertising and tracking options. (**** OFF i pay big $ for internet access)
Do not sync my stuff to google only email
NOW: Been out of the rooting game fir a min, installed No Root Firewall (wonderful)
W T F !?
Why are these effing companies sending so much information back and forth from my device COnSTANTLY!?
I expect google play transport services to be doing a little back and forth [every time I pwr my screen lol]
But Samsung Home Experience
Samsung Keyboard
Gallery!
MY Files (explorer)!
Game optimizing service (not a single game on this phone)
Chrome (never use)
Google Translate (hardly use)
Verizon "Security and Privacy" (ha)
Play Store (over and over)-disabled -i can get apk from web
A blank and unknown app 'balancing service' to "yandex.com" (russia)
And more
All of these are pinging servers 2-20 times a day when I am not using my phone even.
Do not tell me these are regular updates.
How deep down the rabbit hole do I want to go.
From an outside look it would seem they are litterally leaching info on all my pictures, files, possibly keystrokes, ect.
Again WTF?
Am I the only one?
P.s I am not a wanted criminal or doing anything illegal other than the occasional MJ joint.
It makes me mad AF tho.
Android (and apple i assume) have become vampires.
My phone should only do one notified updated and only access servers when i prompt it too!
This **** seems like it has gone too far
Any explanations, comments?
Ps. These ****ing image verifications are damn ridiculous!
Down with alphabet skynet!?
Does anybody have?
I would purchase any phone that has a BLANK (not even play store) Android and can still use Volte and CDMA on Verizon USA bands.
I could care so little to say goodbye to every Google app and service. The satellite imagery maps are thier only GOOD thing.
Facebook should have to pay 500 billion if you ask me, bankrupt 'em.
I tried to do this with the BLU tank on T-blowbile ,but no matter the patches the volte wouldnt stick.
If a device/platform exists I want to be the first to know.
I want to take back my digital ownership.
