[Q] [Request] resizable onscreen button mod - HTC One S

Hi at all!
My request is if it's possible to have a mod that enables onscreen buttons (better if resizable) and disable the soft keys of our one s!
I have to do this request because some people have an issue with soft keys of the one s that interference with gsm antenna and this will be a nice workaround for that, until the official htc radio bug fix.
Here you can find the thread about the issue and there is also a spreasheet to collect signature of the issue. (we are about 150 till now)
Thanks at all, that will take us and help!

Check Button Saviour - the Pro variant costs only little money and lets you remap the original buttons. Maybe you can disable the buttons too. I am not going to test this as i was using it with my HD2 already and i hated these artificial buttons. I want the real ones to work, but if it helps you, you could always try.

thanks!
but i was thinking about the ics onscreen button like gnexus because they are more integrated in the system.

So, like porting that from the Gnex onto the One S?
But that's kinda hard i think because we have sense on top of Android and that'd mess with it pretty much. Dunno, maybe som Dev has an idea then.
Probably easier to achieve on an ICS only ROM.

Capazitive Buttons
I've looked around a bit with something in the XDA thread CM9 found something interesting, it's there to change the layout / function of the capacitive buttons.
my intention is to find a Workaround regarding this Touch Button Issue
at least I've played around with some of the offered file and I have managed the home and the back button to swap.
This doesnt fix the problem but it makes it a little more tolerable, you can feel the still wriggling in the haptic feedback but the screen just does not jump back and forth., At least a little workaround until there is an update to it.
anyone who feels it can test it out, if necessary, please improve, I'm not the Hero in such Things :cyclops:.
the files can simply be flashed in the recovery.
please excuse my cruel English, it mostly came out of Google Translator
EDIT: it does not work on CM9 ROM !

will it work on Trickdroid?
I will test if it will

will it work on Trickdroid?
i've testet it on Energy Rom, on CM9 it endet in a Boot-loop, so i suspect it will work on stock based Roms.

works on trickdroid. Testing... thnx, btw =)
now it goes back from time to time. Is it possible to put back action to back button, make Recent apps button work like Home and disable Home button?

You can try it yourself, just edit the cy8c-touchkey.kl withe an Edior like Notepad++
I've figured it out by playing around and this has cost me a few restarts. I'm really not an expert.

i've just figured out how to disable the Home Button, as compensation i use Button Savior
I know it is a crude Workaround, but it helps me to maintain the Hope for a soon Update..
however, for the Moment no more wriggling :victory:
the File can by flashed easy in the Recovery and should work on stock based Roms, NOT on CM9!

Very good. I'm now going to learn from your file
Thank you ;-)

Best app to remap Raphael's hardware buttons ?

Hello everybody,
I just ordered my HTC Touch Pro and I expect to receive it tomorrow. Having played a bit with the Diamond, I already noted that switching from my Trinity will cause some changes from the hardware buttons perspective.
I'd like to know what's the best available software out there (commercial or freeware, doesn't matter) to remap the buttons of the device, and enables features like single press, "double-click", press-n-hold-short, press-n-hold-long, etc.
Thanks a million in advance.
I am also concerned about the same
I did some checking around and have these two apps for you to test
I didn't try'em out yet
And there's a third AEButton or something
I'll get it as well
Tell me how it goes

I have used this with my Kaiser and Hermes:http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php and I think it's pretty good.
I have a similar question, but not completely.. Is it possible to do any kind of keyboard mapping without any software? Just like altering the registry or something. I would like to get ctrl or FN + o to do ö and ctrl or fn + a to do ä. But i absolutely hate to run any mapping software..
AEButton Plus is awesome for mapping buttons... Check it out.

Hopefully will come in handy when I get my hands on my Raph

I received my Touch Pro yesterday and I directly tried the apps you provided. Hbutton works only on the lower right key (open phone app), while the other doesn't work at all... I'm going to try AE Button and let you know what that gives.
I think currently both the Home and the Back keys can't be remapped -- without touching to the ROM, I mean.
green button
there is a dialer app (idialer) it has an add-on called greenbutton.cab it allowed me to hit the send/call key and bring up idialer instead of built in dialer from that key. I'd like to be able to do that for other dialers like OneDialer. I wish I knew some coding maybe modify the greenbutton app to work for me.
DCD's latest 2 CDMA ROMs (2.27 & 2.30) both allow you to remap all the hardware keys. Not sure how he did it though, but feel free to check them out. His ROMs are usually pretty lean, so you can install whatever you want, without much pre-installed bloat.

[REQ] Tweaks to remove Arrow Keys from Keyboard

Hi guys, I am not sure if many of you have this problem, but the arrow keys on the bottom row is really a pain, as it is just below the space bar.
More often than not, when I try to tap the space bar, I tend to accidentally hit the arrow keys below it, causing T9 to change to an alternate word.
This has been very annoying to me. I have done some search and found quite a few complains from the others as well regarding this issue.
I personally find no use for the keys to be there. and I believe same goes to most of you HD2 users.
Can I please ask for some help from the expert around to create a tweak or maybe some step by step guide to remove the arrow keys from the bottom row of the keyboard, making the keyboard shorter.
This is something that I believe will help many of us out there. thanks for viewing.
Your help will be appreciated!
PS: I have tried finger keyboard, but it still have the arrow keys, and i am having some problem with the suggesting contact names. I really hope some one could just remove the arrow keys from the original keyboard, as it is really good aside from the arrow keys being there. Thanks Again!

This would have the added bonus of freeing up more screen real estate. Or bigger buttons would be nice.
I would also love to see this happen.
The simple solution is for some third-party developer to design an alternative VK that finally utilizes the upgraded screen real-estate.
Android has tons of different keyboard layouts... developers just need to jump on-board with Windows Mobile.

I hate the arrows as well... We need a project to start working on this
Hi me again. So has any expert programmer out there could please please help us out???
any guidelines would be good. Thanks!!
Search for Nikoan89 wvga keyboard v2.2. That has the function with arrows you want.. Its an old feature btw..
Correction. version 1 see to be better... Pressthe arrow button and magic happen on top of the kb..
Hi, Nikoan keyboard seems to be ideal, however after installing his WVGA cab, my HD2 wouldnt boot and was always stuck at the white screen with the HTC words. At 1 point I tot i have bricked my phone... coz i wasnt able to sync and re flash my rom. However i got it fixed in the end.
i too am looking for something like this as well as modifying the landscape SIP to put the cursor keys on the left side of the KB.
why?
cuz i have small hands/thumbs. if the cursors were on the left, there would be equal reach to the keyboard on both sides, unlike now where the right side is twice the length than the left due to the strip of hardware keys adding to the length of reach.
if someone could reorganize the stock (HTC) keyboard cursors:
1. in portrait: remove the row of cursors or place them along the TOP edge of the keyboard.
2. in landscape: move the column of cursors from the right to the left of the keyboard.
SPB and Resco charge $20-25 for their keyboard solutions. after trying both, i think they both suck and i'm glad i trialed them first.
therefore, i'm willing to pay/donate $25 to the first person who can meet both of my requested modifications without bugs.
I personally prefer those arrow keys to be there. Only because I find it annoying that when I type, and make a mistake, putting my blinking cursor-line right after the mistake only to hit backspace to delete the mistake, is annoying.
I just typed a mu|stake. ARGH! (Must put cursor between U and S in order to edit it. - Always a hit/miss)
Any tips?

Long Press volume change track

Hey everyone, is there any apps out there that will make it so I can change tracks with a long press of the volume key? Up for next, down for back for example.
Thats about it, thanks
Also looking for a way to do this. It's about the only thing I miss from my blackberry
CyanogenMod had this when I used it on my Droid, I bet the v6 will have it eventually if it doesn't already.
I'm not sure if its part of vanilla android or CyanogenMod but my g1 had this too. Worked great and would love to see it implemented
Has anyone figured it out yet??? some sensless rom have it, but i cant figure out what to change
It's most likely in the android.policy.jar.
Unfortunately I am not familiar with java, so I can't change it
bump would also like to know this. perfect for motorcycling.

[Q] Looking for HTC keyboard! (T9)

I've searched throughout XDA and can't seem to find a keyboard that I can install that brings back my beloved T9! Searching the market brings up little as well.
I just recently got CM6.1 + Kernel #43 (+ various other things) but before this i was still using MoDaCo's 1.5 ROM and although I love [almost] EVERYTHING about CM6 - I can't find a way to get the dial-pad keyboard with T9 for texting. I'm assuming it doesn't exist.
I just want to know what keyboard is good and simple and includes a T9 dialpad-style keyboard for portrait view. Preferably free... but not required.
Some keyboards I've heard of, but no verification of T9:
Smart Keyboard Pro
Swift Key
SWYPE

EXACTLY what I was looking for. I can type extremely fast now (even in the car... shhhh) and at first, I was glad to have to T9 back but the keyboard itself looked a bit goofy. Then I saw the 'AOSP generic look'; it is perfect.
Thanks so much!
Follow up
Ok - I had to follow up on this again after using the keyboard for a few days. I don't think I did it much justice.
This keyboard is incredible. Not only is it simple looking (although you can apply other themes if you wish), the customizability (is that a word?) is insane. I spent forever just going through and playing with all the settings. Sometime it takes a while since you have to kill the keyboard and wait a second for it to come back in a typing app to test it, then go back to the settings menu, tweak, rinse & repeat.
I was thrilled to see that there are custom smiles because when I do use the smilies, which isn't often, I don't like them to have the 'dash' noses (ex. ) I prefer the simple but maybe I'm just really picky. Having the customizable smilies is awesome. You could even just replace them with anything you use often. One downside however is if you add too many, they'll just run off the screen and you'll not have access to them.
The custom swipes is a nice feature as well. When you swipe along the keyboard in one of four directions, you can assign custom functions. I have my 'swipe-up' set to 'Shift' so I can get capital letters quickly. I know it doesn't seem quicker than pressing the shift key but it is for me. It just feels more natural too when I'm texting or emailing. You can even set a swipe to change languages , I think this would make multi linqual people very satisfied. Type BOOM Tipo BOOM 类型 BOOM Тип.
There are many other settings including the organization of buttons, word prediction and spelling settings, and much more. You can even save and restore settings!
Best of all... it's FREE!
Edit: Thanks again!

Anyone interested in a near-working Wildfire S "port"?

I found a guide that mentions basic Sense porting to another Sense device. I tried this with this Wildfire S ROM for a few reasons:
--I prefer the "standard" HTC Sense as found on any other device (ie. Black status bar, black apps, etc.)
--I wanted to see how well it'd run
--I wanted to see if there'd be any problems with anything
After following the above guide, I notice only the following bugs:
--Camera is upside down
--Rosie keeps force closing because of forced landscape orientation so I have to use an alternate launcher
--Lockscreen is always in Portrait no matter what
--Keypad backlights don't turn on
--Facebook button doesn't work (duh)
--(New)GPS doesn't work - need to mess with GPS libs when I have more time
--(New)The FM Radio app's graphics are messed up
To try and fix the Rosie problem, I tried copying over the Rosie.apk and Rosie.odex from the Chacha's 2.3.5 OTA, but no dice, the system doesn't even see it.
Anyone have any tips on how I could fix any of the above? I'm no dev, and I only tried this for (basically) the fun of it to see how it'd turn out and my "experience", so to speak, only goes as far as swapping files here and there - I felt like the Development forum was the best place to post this. Apologies if it isn't.
good attempt! nice to see to back into work. May be some developers can help you out.
I would like to apologize first, as it is 08:19 in the morning and I'm already drunk. lol.
Well, let's start with the easy bits:
1. --Keypad backlights don't turn on
Mainly the thing is that the Wildfire S ROM does not have support (or it is not activated) for a physical keyboard; therefore the need for backlight is redundant. To fix this you will either have to manually add the code lines or un-comment them. I suggest talking with adlx or xdbg since both of them have implemented this feature in the two custom ROMs.
2. --Facebook button doesn't work (duh)
As above, the ROM doesn't know (or doesn't want to know) about the physical keyboard. Same suggestions as above.
3. Landscape/portrait issues.
Well. The main problem here is the android system. By definition it detects the longest size on the display and sets it as the height. Therefore you'll have a tough time fixing the standard display to landscape. As above, I suggest speaking with the devs that worked on these roms and implement the ChaCha kernel files into the Wildfire ROM.
Aaaaaand that's about it I guess. I wish you good luck!
Drunk, this early??
Good effort!

Nice!
For the backlight, maybe you could try using system/lib/hw/lights.msm7k.so from the stock Chacha rom, or even from SuperOSR...
You cannot copy/paste an apk+odex file, it will probably never work. Try deodexing it first, then copy it.
I guess this is the right place to ask

I copied lights.msm7k.so from SuperOSR, and the keyboard backlight works now.
I used an application on my laptop called xUltimate to deodex both this ROM and Chacha 1.54 stock, and the only things that wouldn't deodex are the Lockscreen and Rosie :/
Camera appears right-way round/up if a 3rd party camera app is used
Additional bugs I've noticed after trying it out a bit again:
--GPS doesn't work - I'll mess around with gps libs tomorrow when I have a bit more time
--The FM radio app's graphics are messed up
For gps try also to use stock chacha libsensors (or something like that)
the right names for the files are:
/system/lib/hw/gps.chacha.so
/system/lib/hw/sensors.chacha.so
try using the one from SuperOSR.
Is this ROM going to be official released anytime soon because I am working on a ROM from another HTC device aswell and was wondering if you needed any assistance on final touches?
TechMayhem
This would interest me greatly, as I really love the "standard" sense and was quite disappointed with the amount of white/light colours used in the ChaCha's version, and how it just doesn't seem to fit in very well at all with the HTC family. Would it be possible to use the Desire Z's rosie? As that supports landscape natively.

Tbh, I haven't done anything on this for a while because I started flashing CM7/SuperOSR.
From what I can remember, the following things wern't working:
-Lockscreen - Always in Portrait, won't rotate
-Rosie - Force-close loop, had to replace with an alternate launcher
-GPS - Icon doesn't appear in the status bar
-FM/Dailer/maybe others - Graphics messed up due to forced landscape resolution
That's all I managed to check before I got caught up in crackflashing XD
I am by no means a dev - all this was done by replacing files in a Wildfire S ROM with ones from SuperOSR/stock Chacha

Precisely why I tried this in the first place - I wasn't expecting all this white, which doesn't make the Chacha feel like an HTC as much to me - I already tried the Desire Z's Rosie - while it did work, all the icons were huge (because of it being scaled for HDPI screens). Dunno about widgets.
Once I find it amongst all the crap I have on my laptop, I could upload it if anyone might have an idea how to fix what's left and to see what else is broken?
