AT&T HOX Camera White Balance? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Is it just me, or does the camera white balance on the AT&T HOX suck big time?
Auto: everybody looks like a cooked shrimp, pink cast on all skin colors
Daylight: now everything looks yellow
Cloudy: everything looks yellow and identical to Daylight. I basically see no difference between Daylight and Cloudy!
The only (partial) solution I have found is to back off one notch in Saturation and run AWB.

I notice that too. Have you tried any of the AOSP roms? Curious if stock white balance is better.

Yes I agree it sucks big time. One of my biggest gripes with this phone ;(

I turned down the saturation and on mime and it looks perfect.

I would describe it more as half decent, and only if you use AWB. Perhaps my expectations are too high. I am a half decent photographer and am used to much, much better than this. I do not recall seeing this in the reviews, which is surprising

Difference between smiled displays?

possibly. i remember, a year back, people were comparing samoled screens and their slight differences. some even would pick out nexus s based on the color tone of the screen before they bought them.
OLED displays are prone to being biased toward certain colours. Material quality may have something to do with it but i don't know enough about the manufacturing to say. As the lifetimes of the different coloured subpixels are very different, they degrade at different rates and this can change the hue. Blue's die the quickest and often there is a larger blue subpixel to compensate for this.
From what i've seen from numerous people with SGS2s, they need manual colour correction and possibly a few times a year. Some are overly blue, some overly green/yellow. This changes with time too. I quite like it while looking at photos or videos, but the lack of a true white annoys me. This is why supercurio has been / is working on better colour control for OLED displays for android, these issues can certainly be compensated for.

Are you sure both are running exactly the same software (ROM, kernel + voodoo settings if any)?
Obviously there is small differences between displays but it shouldn't be too terrible.
Positive, blues are the most noticeable. One seems to display blues as more of a grey.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I just installed the matrix kernel with the voodoo colors hack and it makes a huge difference on the one and no difference on the other. Its crazy there's that much difference between them.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Edit the settings with voodoo control, colours will look much better after some tweaking.
Yeah I played with it a little bit, is there a way to avoid the green screen flash afterwards?

I disagree, I too had an iphone 4s. IMO this camera is just as good, with more features. But to each his own!
Ive taken several pictures and videos. I think the camera is great and super responsive. As soon as I touch the shutter button the picture is already taken and in my photo gallery.
The zoom on it is fairly decent too.
Maybe we could use this thread for people to post what custom settings are working for them. I hear the camera needs a little adjustment out of the box.

I just wish it had hold to focus like the Galaxy Nexus (it was there in early and later versions, but gone after one of the updates). It worked very well. I like to be more in control of the focus. But the burst mode kind of makes up for it. I don't use it much but it could be pretty handy.
I love this camera as well, but I will say the focus is a bit of a problem. Any slight movement and focus is gone and it has to try again. Great for stills though
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Seems like it has a tendency to overexpose especially when outside. May need to keep it at -1 on exposure.
I'm pretty happy with the speed. No shutter lag at all! The Note would have motion blur sometimes in direct sunlight.
The quality, when viewed on a pc, is very good also. Still need more time to play, but I'm a pretty happy camper right now.

Thanks for the tip. I noticed it kept refocusing while i already had my daughter in the center of the frame(of course three year olds move a lot)

How is the camera on the one S?

Hello,
How are you? I am considering a One S, but the camera is an important feature for me, especially in regard to image quality.
So, with that in mind, I would like to know how is the camera on the One S, in regard to the lens and sensor. Is it exactly the same on the One X?
Thank you.
Cheers

The GS 3 camera isn't better, in some shots, it is, however, in other shots it isn't, overall for photos, they are more or less the same, neither are far better.
The S (and X I think?) struggle with bright reds a bit though (become far too over saturated and you just get a glow effect, have to reduce the saturation by one level when you are taking a photo of a red petal etc.)
1080P recording is far better on the GS 3 though, the light metering and smoothness is great when compared to the one S/X. However, the stereo audio recording sucks (unless it has been fixed recently?).
The 2 things, which are far better on the X and S without a doubt is the camera UI and features.
Whilst both the X and S are the same for camera, the 1080P video recording looks smoother and better on the S and I think the photos from the X look sharper[some have said that the S photos look sharper] (although there isn't a big enough difference to worry about)
You can see my photos here:

I currently have a galaxy note. But I am a bit tired of the big size. I would like a phone to be able to handle with one hand.
Has such, I am afraid the One X might still be to big.
So I am eyeing the S.
The price difference is just 50 euros here between the two.
I would also like a better camera because I am leaving my camera at home more often and relying on my phone camera...
So? Is the one S a good choice?
is the camera an upgrade from my note in IQ and low light shooting?
Cheers

HOX camera so good it sold 5 phones

I sell phones and a family came in wanting a smartphone with a good camera I points to the htc one x.
They ask how do I know about the camera. I pulled my phone out and showed them this
Afternoon some debating between the HOX and the sgs3 they picked the HOX for 5 lines.
I asked what made them pick the HOX over the sgs3?
They said the sgs3 feels to light and cheap and the HOX feels like a solid phone.

I own a One X (obviously) and actually the camera doesn't impress me all that much. The constant auto-focus actually drives me nuts. I use my phone for low light video/pictures all the time and the HOX struggles at focusing in low light and with video constantly goes in an out of focus. So far the best low light video performance I have ever had with a phone was my Atrix. Beat every iPhone, SGS2, One X, Incredible, and a couple other phones.
Burst shot is pretty cool though.

Everytime I show someone a pic taken from the One X (on the One X), I always get the "Wow!! Awesome camera" response. I feel it's the combination of a good camera and an AWESOME screen
Sent from my HTC One XL
The One X camera's biggest feature for me is how quickly it starts up. Typically I'm using my phone's camera to capture something spontaneously and quickly. When I had an iPhone it was impossible to take a picture in less than 10 seconds. The One X is ready to fire away almost instantly.
I saw an article on either Engadget or Gizmodo the other day where they compared the iPhone 5's camera to the GS3 and the One X. The GS3's camera produced superior photos to the One X and was about even with the iPhone 5. It wasn't a great test, but in the limited test they did the GS3 beat our beloved One X.

finding it hard to use other phones with sub par displays

The HTC one x, may not be the fastest phone, or have the best battery. But after I browse the web with it, its hard to go from superlcd2 to any other display
Its like a joy to browse the net, whereas on my galaxy s3 (its faster) but its meh

I have to agree I've was testing the Galaxy Note 2 last few days and whilst the display on that is an improvement over the SGS3 it was still Meh compared to the HOX.
Sure AMOLED has better contrast and blacks but SLCD2 is just sexy. Crisp text and sharp. Whites are better, colours are less over saturated, brighter, and my god SLCD3 is supposed to be even better!

I really can't tell the difference. I used my friends gs3 yesterday and it looked perfectly fine and usable to me.
I know we get better viewing angles but during normal browsing i'm fine with either.
I completely agree. My girlfriend has an S3 and the blue tint is incredibly noticeable to me. The One X has the best screen of any device I've ever owned, by far.
I'm not thrilled with HTC or at&t nowadays.
I'm considering switching to Sprint within the next week.
But all the mass marketing doesn't warm me to the SG3 either.
Sorry but the bawdy home button and ugly camera and sensor holes are butt ugly.
Lots of cheap feeling plastic, roundy corners, and Touchwiz - all with a bluish tint display that's horrible in sunlight?
No thanks.
SG3 has never been on my shopping list, and won't be.

After owning an iPhone for 4 years straight, I vowed to never purchase a phone with a physical home button again, and I will stick to it! Samsung dropped the ball with build quality on the SIII, anyone who argues in favor of it over a HOX simply hasn't had enough time with both devices.
