I ment that windows and ios apps/operating system send data to to microsoft/apple
i know android software even if its stock crap **** is open source but i can imagine some evil samsung devs (or whoever) developing apps wich spy out ur data cus they think the mayority of the users dont understand even one line of text in the source code of the app
so may it be dangerous/not clever to use stock apps?
does somebody know something about that?
it would interest me

I wouldn't say that google is a saint either...
One look at the data available to "maps" and you can have all doubts clear...not to mention that data is collected on the basis of "personalization" of advertisement (admob)...
I usually stay away from closed sourced apps, and prefer open source apps and platforms wherever possible...
And let's just not get started on the extent to which manufacturers and carriers mess with android and its privacy management...

[SECURITY] HTC security vulnerability said to leak phone numbers, GPS data, and more

The folks at Android Police seem to have stumbled across a rather jarring security vulnerability in HTC handsets running Android, giving common apps with internet access a peek at the device's vital statistics, user information and more. Demonstrated in the above video, developer Trevor Eckheart found that a recent HTC update packed in a suite of logging tools that collects data on user accounts (including email addresses), recent GPS locations, SMS data and encoded text, phone numbers, system logs, running processes and more -- all of which can be accessed by common apps requesting access to android.permission.INTERNET.
HTC is already looking into the issue, stating, "HTC takes our customers' security very seriously, and we are working to investigate this claim as quickly as possible. We will provide an update as soon as we're able to determine the accuracy of the claim and what steps, if any, need to be taken." If you're too antsy to wait for HTC's update, head on over to the source link below -- Eckheart says the issue can be resolved by removing HTCloggers from a rooted device.

Should we be worry/afraid of this? or is our S-off phones and rooted phones already solve this problem? Since we can't get an official update after using custom ROM, what are the solutions? Did anyone manage to find out? Discuss...

I haven't seen any confirmation that this affects Desire S yet. It certainly doesn't affect anyone using a non-Sense rom.
It sounds like it was a recent update including a package called "HTCLogger.apk" that introduced the vulnerability. I assume then that this only affects you if you have a Sense rom that includes that package.

Chances are this probably affects a small amount of handsets. You have to remember though, the media loves nothing more than a delicious "your life could be at stake due to this life threatening leak of information".
They must love listening to sex calls then :3

Anyone who uses any kind of electronic equipment to go on the net ,use wireless tech is bound to have that data logged ,it's a fact of life ,Whats more annoying here is that its as about secure as quicksand

Maybe to find out what Roms are effected by this?
the list of phones that may be affected (via androidpolice)
Note: Only stock Sense firmware is affected - if you're running an AOSP-based ROM like CyanogenMod, you are safe.
EVO 4G
EVO 3D
Thunderbolt
EVO Shift 4G? (thanks, pm)
MyTouch 4G Slide? (thanks, Michael)
the upcoming Vigor? (thanks, bjn714)
some Sensations? (thanks, Nick)
most likely others - we haven't verified them yet, but you can help us by downloading the proof of concept above and running the APK

Are sense roms ported from affected devices affected. For example Virtuous Unity rom was ported from the HTC Sensation.
Possible, your best bet would be to check if the HTCLogger.apk is present.
If yes delete it and everything should be ok.

Proof Of Concept App
In order to help showcase his findings, TrevE created an open-sourced POC (proof of concept) of a simple app that requests a single INTERNET permission, then shows that it can gain access to all the data I mentioned above. I ran the app on an unrooted EVO 3D - see the screenshots below or try it out yourself.
There is also a video walkthrough below the screenshots, shot by Trevor himself.

Patching The Vulnerability
... is not possible without either root or an update from HTC. If you do root, we recommend immediate removal of Htcloggers (you can find it at /system/app/HtcLoggers.apk).
Stay safe and don't download suspicious apps. Of course, even quality-looking apps can silently capture and send off this data, but the chance of that is lower.

Unfortunately no version numbers or specifics are provided, which in my mind creates doubt which I don't like!
I also have a HTC loggers as a running application on my device which is set to start at boot and has access a huge amount of potentially damaging information (location, network access, personal information, development tools, storage, system tools etc)
Well I did have HTC loggers running so I've since removed it. Using a combination of Task Manager and Titanium Backup its now gone.
Task Manager - Force stop, clear data and clear cache
Titanium Backup - Uninstall the application.
A lack of any decent response from HTC is also unimpressive especially after they have recently impressed with the turnaround on un-lockiung our Bootloaders.

Hello,
As described above I checked the installed aplications using Titanium Backup and found the "HTC loggers". Unistalled on the spot - the program was't running at the time.
I'm using Proxuser's new sense 3.0/ gingerbread 2.3.5 ROM - link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230029
It would be advisable that anybody using ported or updated Sense ROM's should check.
Hi,
I have this security vulnerability. I'm on this latest ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230029
All my email, ip add, location showed up.
Desire s on latest ota does have this htcloggers.apk installed! I also removed it with titanium. You can Check what an attacker could See with that little Test app linked at androidpolice...

After running it for a few days, That was after I had to change my good working busybox to an older one that caused issues. I didnt see any change other then it closing apps that it had no point in closing. Android has one of the best memory management systems and its best not to mess with it a bit much. I have had a few people run it on my set up and they ran into the same issues. While I agree that is may work on some roms, it is not for every rom.

I can see where it would help with gaming. I dont game on my device. Mostly used in a perfessional manor for work and fun. Just dont understand why a script would kill the phone and sms app on a mobile device. But if it works for you then great. Glad you got your device working the way you want.

This is why manufacturers put custom skins.

I just used the galaxy nexus for the first time and I am shocked to find out that there is no way to rearrange the app drawer to make the latest installed applications appear at the end. To have alphabetical order as the only order seems laughable to me.
It is a feature I absolutely need so my point is why should I buy the galaxy nexus when the first thing I'll be doing is finding the right launcher that would probably significantly change the look?? Why shouldnt I get galaxy S2 instead which offers much more customization out of the box? It would eventually get ICS and would retain anything that touchwiz offers but ICS doesnt.
When customization is the holy grail of android it seems very puzzling why google continues to leave out such essential features. It only invites other manufacturers to implement these things themselves. If I was a person with suitable authority working in a company making android phones, I certainly would want this feature to be modified on my company's phones.

"That's the only arrangement that makes sense anyway." Okay, so it's the way you feel is most logical and thus it's the only way it should be implemented? You just blow up on anyone here who doesn't share your endearing adoration for android and it's sad. His point is certainly valid, and he didn't address it in an aggressive way.
To OP, I completely agree. I don't think I used the default launcher after launcher pro, and then ADW Launcher came out. It does tend to destroy the whole point of buying a phone without the, "bloatware."

The Android Market is full of different launchers. Contrary to WP7, we can run pretty much whatever we want, instead of being limited to what the vendor serves us.
And congratulations on staining yet another thread with WP7 stuff.

Blah blah blah, won't run as smooth, blah blah blah, unbearable lag.
We've done this dance before and I don't intend to watch a couple of people who base their points on, "I can't see it, it's not there." attempt to piece together an argument against the fact that android still cannot get a hardware accelerated UI after all this time, and won't be able to without a ground up rewrite. Issues won't be resolved until they're addressed by the general populace.

To the OP, it is your choice. The same reasons you like touchwiz are the same reasons some of us enjoy AOSP. That is the beauty of Android though, right? The choice.

To you it makes sense not to me, there is a reason why pretty much all non-nexus android phones have alot of options in the app drawer. Giving an option does not in any way hamper the experience for those who will stick with the default option.
Ofcourse the nexus is not an iphone or windows phone and you can always install launchers but that completely destroys the "pure google" experience.
And the bloatware you talk about is often quite useful just that it is not always best optimized and can hamper performance but the example I gave the galaxy S2 has one of the best stock launchers on any android phone.
I mean I hardly use much of the google services in a nexus phone except for gmail and search, should I call all the other stuff bloatware as well? Bloatware is subjective.

Don't mistake your terms. The GSII does not use a "stock" launcher. It uses a touchwiz launcher. The term "stock" refers to the AOSP launcher. Vanilla is an acquired taste...it is not for everyone.

Why does a "pure Google" experience matter? Android gives you the possibility that if you don't like a component you replace it. To me that's a lot more important than some supposed "pureness".
Please, do feel free to post something on topic. You're the only one who has yet to thus far. I feel it has everything to do with the thread. Samsung's "bloatware" on the gs2 created the first remotely smooth android experience due to being the first with a stock hardware accelerated browser and a UI that was accelerated in some areas. If the bloatware improves android, the only reason to go stock is the updates.

It is one of the key selling points of a nexus phone.
And as for custom launchers I would like to point something out. I tried launcher ex on the xperia play but for some reason the app drawer just didnt have nearly the same butter smoothness as the sony launcher which rivals iphone smoothness to me. Whereas on the galaxy S1 I felt the launcher ex improved the smoothness.
Question is will other launchers compromise the smoothness on the nexus? That would be really annoying.
So really, a pure google experience offers nothing remarkable aside from updates, Samsung and other companies create launchers with many benefits.

Well obviously this thread is talking about the out of box experience. Plus there arent that many launchers that work well with ICS right now anyways.
Plus why is samsung a third party when it is the one making the phone?

I think Google has dropped the ball with Android by not requiring phone manufacturers to enable their hardware to run strictly vanilla Android without any difficulty. If Google had done that, every phone which has the basic hardware for a specific version of Android would have it now. Open Source Android and Linux is a farce because manufacturers have made them essentially closed source due to not releasing the source code for their drivers, etc. May as well have an iPhone.

At least the iPhone is less frustrating because it is a closed system that can't be modified except by Apps and, even then, only those which comply with Apple's requirements unless the phone is jailbroken. But Touchwiz is literally Hitler!
J/K if you like the aesthetic then there are some excellent look-alike CM11 themes by thomasaffca.
If you want some of the extra features you'll need to look towards something like Mahdi which has hover plus a lot of other stuff.
Give a chance to stock in this device. Most likely you won't need 99% of the stuff Touchwiz conveniently shoves in your face and you will feel a device at least as twice as fast.
I'm coming from the S5...

I know dude yr just kidding. Only reason is i saw the phone that my buddy have. Somehow due to its pure android its looks so simple. Even phone setting has everything in one tab. As I had all Sammy phone so far i am pretty used to with that. That was the only reason lol. All cool ^_^

OPO... my mind is always tempted to write OPPO... which kinda is true.
The build quality, included storage (64GB vs 16GB), software and even battery life are better for me.
With that much space, not having an SD Card is not a problem to me.
Camera seems to be good, maybe not as good as the S5 in daylight but very good on it's own.
My S5 even when having top of the line specs (38k+ in Antutu) lagged thanks to Touchwiz. Never again.
^^ what he said. I've had galaxy devices since they were released. Believe me cm is MUCH better. Take some time to immerse yourself in the settings - it will really amaze you how much faster cm is.
Cm is actually one of the plainer aosp ROMs - check out carbon or liquid smooth - tweaktastic!
But... Touchwiz is the Satan of ROMs! Touchwiz is so slow and filled with useless blaotware from Samsung. I'd rather use Sense 6.

Be sure you underclock the CPU and set the governor to conservative, so you can experience lag [emoji57]

Its too high level talk for me . Pass
I like touchwhiz because of S health.
I really want to buy a OPO but i use S health every day and i will miss it so hard.
Never found a decent alternative (accuracy or battery usage)
I find touchwiz to have better interface than native opo. What I specifically miss on the opo is
1) having the home screens wrap around.
2) let me sort my total list of applications my way.
3) unread count on sms/mms.
4) easy creation of home screens to the left.
I haven't noticed touchwiz to be slow on my S2.

You can solve your wishes very easily.
1. Use a different launcher.
2. Use a different launcher.
3. Use a different launcher.
4. Use a different launcher.
I'll take CM over a laggy and bloaty Crapwiz any day.

How is that a non answer? You can get your One to do every single one of those things by using a launcher like Apex or Nova. Are you not reading or something??
