Error installing CM - General Questions and Answers

Hi!
I am kinda new to rooting and flashing but have been reading alot lately so hopefully i'll learn some.
Anyhow, I was following the guide to root Motorola's Defy(I have a Defy Plus) posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013&page=1
Worked like a charm until I decided to install CM. Install seems to work fine but when I boot for the first time I always get this error:
err:A5,70,00,00,23 posted in the Bootloader 9.10.
From what I've read people claims it bricked then?
I have tried with both CM 7.1 and CM 7.2. Same results and same error-code. Seems to be no problem getting it back to shape by following the root-guide again though.
Just wanna get rid of ex. motoblur. :/
Anyone who has a solution. Couldnt post in that part of the forum since I was a new member here.
Regards
/Secretsavage

Sounds like you didn't install the correct cm 7 for your phone, or the recovery you have is buggy, but I could be wrong. Can you get Into clock work mod? If so, try restoring your backup

Yeah what he said^ probably the wrong CM... try this one! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510063

I just got done reading this thread about not using Rom Manager EVER on the SGS4g, so I went ahead and used it and my phone boot loops now....what gives? I figured that it may work with a vibrant ROM as I heard it works on the regular galaxy s, so I Odin back to stock, reinstalled Rom manager and flashed cm7 for the vibrant...now my phone won't even boot...what gives? Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? It's almost like Rom manager doesn't work on this phone or something. Someone should make a step by step guide for flashing this phone...you know, like an SGS4G Bible.

That would be freaking awesome if this helps.... however people would have to read BEFORE using their "knowledge" of all things android.

Yeah stickies. Bet it still gets asked twenty times a week though.
What consequences will have installing Rom Manager?
What if I installed it but didn't use it?
I'm experiencing a lot of crashes and reboots and maybe I've finally found the reason.

If you installed it and didn't use it, no problem.
If you used it to 'install', then you earned a one way trip to using Odin to get everything back.
Raver, if you don't mind could you please make the title have capital letters and not lowercase like it does. There is no reason for it other than everytime I open the forum, it bugs me. Also, what is up with the "bold" html command ""?
I wonder what goes through other peoples heads when they decide hey I'm going to root my phone and install a custom Rom. I mean the first thing I did was a Google search on how to root SGS4G. That lead me to XDA. Then I found the actual SGS4G forum and began searching for guides. This was the same process for my MT3G and my G1. I don't understand why people would just grab Rom manager and assume it's a cure all. Boggles the mind.

that works out fine if the first thing you get led to is xda, but if you are unlucky like me then you end up at joe schmoe's tech blog or something similar and they tell you that any android phone can be "hacked" with superoneclick and rom manager. thats where the true issue lies, imo: that not the sites state the same info and most of that is wrong.
Thanks raver!

+1 Sure there were multiple sites related to the subject, which is why you take a little bit of time to examine more than one. I know I didn't just click the first option and run with it.
This post got me thinking. We have the SGS4G Bible but apparently it can be a little overwhelming and too much information for some people to digest before they start modding their phones.
Keeping the biblical theme maybe a simplified "SGS4G TEN COMMANDMENTS" that contain the ten most common questions and answers, noob mistakes, and does and don'ts in one place. Simple, easy to read, and easy to refer people to. For example...
Commandment 1: DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER...EVER!
Commandment 2: DO NOT FLASH VIBRANT ROMS....EVER! - THE SGS4G IS NOT A VIBRANT!
etc, etc....you get the idea.
Any thoughts?

[Q] Help Bricked my One-X and cant find the stock RUU

So i got a little ahead of myself today when i unlock my AT&T One X bootloader. I tried to instal CWR and then Cyan9. Rooted and unlocked fine but i get the feeling CWR is still not compatible with the AT&T One-X bootloader.
So the problem im having is reinstalling the stock RUU and ROM. I found lists and lists of RUUs and tried one the is supposed to work but i have had little success. How can i find the stock RUU for my phone or better yet is there a CWR that i can instal to get Cyan9 running?
Im sorry im sure you guys get idiot questions like this all the time but i have spent hours googling with no luck. Im desperate to use my phone again!
Thanks for you input in advanced

Thank you so much. You dont think CM would work on top of this CWM? Or am i missing a whole nother aspect here?
Frankly, I'm not entirely sure what all is involved in porting CM9 from one platform to another, but I would suspect we'll have to wait for HTC to release the source to pull some of the drivers, etc before we make much progress. I would expect somebody to have started a thread on it in the development section if anybody were actively working on it that the moment.
Lol there is no cyanogen mod for this device yet. If there was, and it would've been in the development section. You shouldve known better not to flash the file if it isn't for this device.
You deserve the brick..

I'm guessing you flashed the unofficial CM9 build for the international One X? That phone has a completely different CPU and SoC (Tegra 3) from the AT&T version (Snapdragon S4) and ROMs are not compatible between the 2.
Either that or you flashed the ROM from some random, completely different phone. In either case, don't flash ROMs for other phones. It won't work, and its a good way to brick your phone.
Sounds like you are pretty correct when you said you've gotten a little ahead of yourself. Don't Google around and install things on your phone unless you are very comfortable with what you are doing. If you are a noob, your best bet is to stick to the Development subforum for your particular device here on XDA.
I've posted an index thread in Development, and it is your friend. Its a sticky at the top of the Development subforum, and you should always read the threads stickied to the top of the forums. I've kept it updated with the latest ROMs that will work on your phone. It also links the appropriate RUUs, as well as other tools.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Also, even flashing the correct RUU will not work, unless you relock the bootloader.
If your smart enough to root and flash **** how did you not know you can't flash a Rom for an entirely different phone. Smh

Was that necessary? We were all noobs once
Anyway i think he got confused with all of the initials... He was saying CWR, Saying cyan9 should work on top of CWR. Hopefully was typo and meant CWM. No wonder you couldn't find any info. Sounds like he thought they were the same or went together. CWM stands for Clockwork Mod, not cyanogen. I may be wrong with this assumption. Anyway..

Want to go from CM10.1 to Valhalla Final

Well guys, Ive been searching long and hard to find out how to do this and keep seeing I need to use Odin. I have no clue how to use Odin and consider myself lucky that I was able to even flash CM10.1 Jellybean successfully. I do have a full backup of my original rom. I just want a rom that will work. CM10.1 is good but I wasn't able to get my apps put back on (I followed the instructions on how to do it but it keeps giving me a formatting error). It seems this phone hasn't worked good at all since it had the stock Froyo on it. The 2.3.6 Gingerbread update worked except for that texting issue of to many characters.
I have been reading that lots of people seem to like the Valhalla final rom. I have the Samsung Galaxy s 4g (T959V). Or do you guys recommend another more current rom? I am really clueless about how to do these things. Also, when you root a phone does that mean you can no longer get apps off Google play?
One more thing, what's the deal with different kernerls? I know nothing about them either. Are they just to do with communicating with the hardware or is there more to them?
I see different launchers and know nothing about them or if I can use them for my phone. Wouldn't know how to install one either. I'm sure I can customize what I already have but don't know how or what to try. Maybe that should be first. I would really like to have my facebook app back though. If you guys could just give me some links, that would be great too. Thanks in advance everyone.
If you want to go back to a bml gingerbread rom you have to one click back to stock.

Never mind guys, got it to work. Thanks again!!!!

[Q] Most Recent Methods?

I just acquired a Samsung Infuse so am entirely new to this phone, have rooted it so far via SuperOneClick, but am not having issues determining the best method of acquiring CWM so as to flash some new ROMS.
there are a number of threads i found through searching the forums but all of them seem to be quite old (2011). one of them i tried and it did not work, i got an e-signature failed error of some kind and couldn't find any solid information about how to get around that.
for someone who is brand new to this phone and disgruntled with the performance of 2.3.3, what would be the best method to utilize to get CWM to get a good ROM on this thing?
Thanks in advance

You guys are lifesavers. Is there a ROM any of you would recommend to load straight on the phone easily now that I have rooted GB 2.3.6 with the red CWM??
Looking forward to not having to deal with the brutal battery life and laggy response of 2.3.3!
Yeah u can flash all the ROM over 2.3.6 thru CWM, But just keep in mind if u want JB then u have to flash ICS first the JB.
There are many many good GB roms with good battery life i will not name them just flash and see which suits u the most.

well i figured id update here as everyone's been such a big help and i really went through a heck of a process trying to get things back to a working state.
from CM9 i attempted to flash SlimBean and then got stuck in a boot loop. from there, i made the terrible mistake of panicking and trying to flash back to CM9, which seemed like it worked until i got stuck in a boot loop again. i panicked further and tried to flash all the way back to stock GB 2.3.6 which just messed everything up and i bricked it. could not get into download mode, nothing. i realize how stupid all of my mistakes were but thats what learning is about LOL.
finally today i uninstalled all versions of KIES, reinstalled latest version of java, used a different (non-front panel) usb port, with a brand new usb cable (one of my quality ones from a branded charger vs. the cheap one i was using previously). finally got ODIN to recognize my phone and flashed tue UCLB3 Unbrick w/ Root and it worked like a charm.
so i'm going to start again and try to work my way more carefully up to the top haha. thanks again for all the help guys, really appreciate the great infuse community here :good:

LG G3 Keyboard for CM/AOSP ROMs

Hi everyone,
I've been using non-stock ROMs for quite a while and I was always flashing LG keyboards, cause I find them really handy to use.
I had asked in the Official CM13's thread, if anyone had known a compatible LG keyboard, but no one had answered.
After some search, I found this thread, and after flashing the keyboard I found out that it works flawlessly with CM13 (latest nightly) for my G2, too. Of course I take no responsibility for any kind of problem that might occur during/after flashing the .zip, as I said it works just fine with my G2.
All credits should be given to @siankatabg who made the .zip, all I did was just search G3's forum and test if it works.
Hope this helped anyone looking to flash a LG keyboard to his/her CM13 based ROM. If the thread is against the rules, I'd like to apologize in advance, and mods, feel free to delete it.
It works on g2 too, that's nice, but should work on other cm/aosp roms.
Can you please change the title when someone report that the Keyboard works on other roms than cm13, so I don't need to make a new thread here

Well said however get twrp to work for me was a hell of a job and fear if would end up bricking my device. Just trying to be careful on this.
Better to learn from mistakes of others than to make one yourself.
I am not a developer and not sure of how to set my device back to normal may god forbid if I end up messing it up.
Hope this clarifies my question above

well... If you already have TWRP installed, do a nandroid backup and if anything goes wrong just recover form it, there is no way that just flashing this will brick your phone beyond recovery point, and even if in some way recovery got corrupted there's always a way, you can just run download mode and flash KDZ with stock rom using flash tool 2014. Anyway I went ahead and tried it myself on Lineage 14.1 ( Android 7.1.1.) and it doesn't work, I mean i did flash it and it seems that everything went well but after reboot it just wasn't there. You better off with Google Keyboard (you can get it at google play store)
BTW. The easiest way to get TWRP on LG G2 is just flash stock lollipop root it, and than flash "Autorec for lollipop", when it's done just go to recovery and flash newest TWRP available and you're golden.
Flashed the file in language and inputs in settings lg keyboard shows up but I enable it reboot still have aosp keyboard tried disabling aosp keyboard and lg gets automativmcally blacked out with it any help appreciated!!!
