Viber on HTC chacha - HTC ChaCha

Viber is agreat app, and it works fine on the htc chacha. but there is one problem. everything except the messaging part of the app is in portrait mode... so I should rotate the phone sideways, to use it... does anyone know how to fix this? (yes, landscape mode is enabled in the viber options)

Hi,
This is a member of the Viber R&D Team!
We haven't thoroughly tested Viber on this specific device yet. You can check out our list of officially supported devices at: http://bit.ly/rqbZEw
The new version 2.2 is out on the Play store. You can upgrade to this version , it might be more stable on your device.
If you have any question about Viber - please feel free to ask.
Viber Team

the new viber update works prefect on chacha

@ts3010 -
We're glad to hear it works fine, thank you for the report
@archacha -
We are aware of this issue, and we hope to implement Landscape mode in the other screens as well in future versions, but unfortunately we are not yet sure when exactly it would be ready.
We will keep you posted with news and updates, and we apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

Hello,
I have a HTC ChaCha and was trying to activate Viber on, but have the following issue:
- I installed Viber v 2.2.1;
- Got my SMS with the activation code:
- But unfortunately the ChaCha keyboard is not properly working with Viber - when pressed buttons type different symbols than present on them and I actually can find all digits except 1. Here is the problem - the activation code I receive is always one and the same and it starts with 11**, but with my HtC ChaCha I can not type 1 and therefore I can not activate Viber.

We are not aware of such a problem with ChaCha (that it types symbols and mixed letters instead of numbers).
Are you sure the cause to this issue is not a 3rd-party app or ROM that caused a change in keyboard configuration?
We invite you to contact our support team and give the details of the problem - they will try to assist you further. Here's the link:

Are you using a custom ROM by any chance? If so, do you have the proper keypad files for your region/carrier?

Hey guys,
I have a problem with Viber that I hope someone can help me solve. Here it is: I updated Viber a few days ago and for some reason, when I want to type my phone number in order to get an access code, my keyboard does not show me number 1. All the numbers are mixed, but all are present instead of 1 and I cannot setup the application and start using it. This bothers me very much now, because it worked perfectly before. I tried to solve it by trying to use the onscreen keyboard, but it seems like I don't have that at all in my phone...... is there anyone who knows how I can solve this?
I also tried reinstalling the app several times, but it is always the same thing... :/
Thanks in advance!

Hi. Try downloading 'Smart Rotator' and force it to portrait orientation. That way you will know if it works.
There are many apps that doesn't support portrait (or landscape) orientation, and with Smart Rotator you can force them. But there is no guarantee of they properly fit the screen.

I got the same issue even thought I tried the latest Viber. Here is my solution: type the code in another place, copy it then paste into the code-entering area --> activated!
1-When you get the activating code, write it down on a piece of paper.
2- Open any text typing apps or use the default of HTC: your 'Messages': type the code --> press on the code so that a option box appear, select 'select all', then choose 'copy'. Close the 'Messages'
3- Open your Viber, then press on the code-entering area, the option box appear --> choose paste.
4- The rest is your enjoyment.

Same issue here. Noticed this only happens on ChaCha or physical QWERTY smartphones as the numeric keypads are not placed in the same position for every maker model. (Example: ChaCha numeric keypad is on the left, Galaxy Chat has them slightly to the center) I'm thinking this is what is causing the issue with every similar app. Its not broken, the app works perfectly fine. Press the keys until you find the right numbers for your code and then your phone number.
Used to have Whatsapp... damn, Viber is so much better. Thanks for the great app guys.

Just press the Fn button before you press the number you want to type. For example if you want to type 1234, press Fn 1 Fn 2 Fn 3 Fn 4. It works when you have to type in your phone number and the activation code.
Cheers!

Hi.. My Viber version 3.1.0.1103. It never worked and couldn't be updated. I use link2sd and also tried the native move2sd but still not working and always get "Sorry! The application Viber (process com.viber.voip) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.". My other xperia x10, my win xp sp3 Laptop and desktop PCs are running Viber fine but the chacha is not? I have no access to google play so should I download Viber and install it manually? OR any other suggestion?

What OS is your phone?
If you can't download Viber for Android from Google Play, you may download it at: http://viber.kayako.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/100/16/cant-download-from-android-market

Thanks "Viber member" for your caring and thanks for the link. My OS is Android 2.3.5 Rom Hexgore's Stock Plus v1.4 which is the stock rom I got it from XDA. It's rooted and few bloatware were taken off due to the small internal memory. That's why we need a powerful app for moving apps to sd like link2sd. Maybe the bug is from link2sd because the system, I guess, thinks that the app is installed on internal memory while link2sd takes over and transfers it to the external memory! But Viber and link2 work together well on my other older & slower phone!!

People keep saying that Viber data transfer is unencrypted which means it's easy to be revealed over the internet!! Is it true??

All text messages sent through Viber on its supported platforms are encrypted. Media messages, such as photos and videos, are encrypted on Viber for iOS, Viber for Android and Viber for Windows Phone 8.

Hi Viber Team,
Registered for Beta-testing and installed the APK... can't go past the "enter your phone number and press 'Continue':" screen.

Viber is very similar to whatsapp. Unlike Skype, viber no need to sign in. Work like whatsapp. Been a while iPhone is having it.

After subscribing at http://eepurl.com/bW1Ln you simply need to wait several weeks from our invitation email. Once you get it, you will be asked to fill out a form verifying the same details as the original subscription, and then you will be sent to download the APK and complete your installation.
If you get the APK without following this exact procedure (in the *exact* same order), you will NOT be able to activate.
Our waiting list is long, so a little more patience is needed

There should be no problem recognizing users from other countries. Please specify what country you and your friend abroad live in, and provide me with the number FORMAT of both you and your friend.
Thanks.
i'm a viber beta tester in italy.
I'm using viber with galaxy tab. Works very good both in 3g or in Wifi. I can call viber user crossing platform. From Galaxy to iphone 4 and viceversa. Message works too.
Actually the only thing that not works "very well" is Notification Icon that suddenly re-appear even if i have select "no notification in status bar".
The autoupdate of Viber contact and the last one the calling popup that stay behind the opened application. If i'm on opera or other application i can hear the call ring but i have to close opera to see the viber application with button to answer or reject.
But i'm very satisfied of Viber as a beta.
Well its works great on my galaxy tab I have had only 3 crashes so far but that was when I was on froyo .... also before u update any of the viber beta update make sure u uninstall the old version or u will get force close ...
When will tablet version be added or would I say full supported if I may ask pls ??

Hi Viber folks!
I subscribed to beta few weeks ago.
I had an Archos 70it at that time, and app was not working
Now i changed to a Toshiba Folio 100, and would to try it again.
I just download the viber apk file, installed, but it is still not working (not start)... is it viber working just in presence of a phone module?
Because if so, it will be very pity! Besides, Skype and Fring works like a charm...
EDIT:
My toshiba Folio is mounting a 2.2 version of android...
I think i found what's the problem:
I got the confimation email for subscription, but never received email for download from Viber..

Hi,
Thanks for developing such a great app... I love it.. and it's working fine on my Tab.. I do have a question though.. when will Viber support Bluetooth headsets?
thanks!
1. @riccardoroma - we are aware of the notification icon bug. we fixed that, and it will be implemented in the next beta version.
2. full support for tablet - we don't know yet. For now we are focusing on fixing general bugs with all devices, so it might take a little while.
3. @spino1970 - In order to activate Viber, you need subscribe to be a beta-tester, get the confirmation email, then wait (several weeks) for our INVITATION email. inside that mail you will have a form to fill, and only then you will be able to download the APK (if you get the APK without this process, you won't be able to complete your installation). We ask for your patience
4. About bluetooth - we haven't fully tested the integration of Viber with BT. it will work better and better in future versions.
I received an invitation for Viper test Android version from the Software installation has completed and test capabilities.
But when 2 days the SDCard and backup my entire file corrupt. And Viper application and SMS activation code are missing from re-flash ROM.
I would like to know how I can install this Viper application and send activation code for me again. And then I tried to downloading the Viper application from the email that was sent for me sometime.

@tivgnos
Try installing Viber and enter the exact same telephone number as the one you originally registered with.
Otherwise, I'm afraid there isn't really a way for me to help you other than subscribing to be a beta tester again
Ok, I already installed and received activation code.

Its already available as Call Manager version 0.95, but the available version is in chinese, it works on all device that are Fully unlocked/Interop Unlocked.
I tried like many others "Call Manager 0.95", but it is in Chinese and for the moment we can not find a solution to make it accessible to everyone. So I go back on my proposal for an application to block unwanted messages sms or mms guy. Today there's Samsung Call Blocking XAP which is great for calls, it would be nice also an application for sms and mms. no idea?

When I installed the app, I thought that deleting a contact from the list would have worked in the same way when you remove an app from the list (keep touching the name and then chosing remove).
I kept touching the contact but nothing happened...
And If I press on it, the garbage can is grey and not selectable... Only save and cancel are available...

Works on HTC HD2 1st Gen but Not on Titan second Gen.
Same here on my Titan not work
No chance for me. The application don't work on my HD7 with deepshing 7.8.
In fact, I can not even install the english version of the application. My phone HD7 note error during installation. Concerning the Chinese version, no probem but of course unusable because of language.
This is because u have uninstalled the previous version of this app from menu. There is a special option inside the application, which allows to remove it correctly from the memory. To resolve that problem:
1. Repair installation with that file: Call Manager Repair by Shreqg2.xap
2. Again install translated file from this thread (or from here: Call Manager 0.95 MOD EN by Shreqg2.xap)

How to make Viber and Whatsapp work on an UNROOTED wifi-only tablet

Well I wanted to help all who's out there with their new wifi only tablet and wanted to make viber or whatsapp to work on them
so to start I have already seen threads here on xda that already do that but they need a ROOTED device (well I didn't want to root my new tablet just yet) so I found a workaround that helped me access viber and whatsapp without rooting
The things you need :
1- Viber.apk
2- Whatsapp.apk Sorry I can't post links who wants them pm me
3- A landline (or a mobile phone number you DON'T use or need)
After you mark that you can install from unknown sources (Settings/Security/Unknown Sources)
Install both apks in any order you please
Now when you install them they will tell you that they need a phone number to give you a special code to activate your service
Enter your landline number ( it will load for some time then they will ask you to call that number )
If you enter the unneeded mobile number ( you CAN'T use viber or whatsapp on that number as you use it on your tablet ) make sure that the sim card is in a device. They will send the special code in an sms to that mobile number.
If you used the landline method they will call you and tell you the code. ( Write the code on a piece of paper )
Now enter that code on your tablet.
It will be activated on your tablet.
NOTE: You can't add contacts on your tablet. So on viber you can use the keypad and call whoever you know (that has viber) and msg him/her on that number but you can't see his/her name ( May cause problems if you have more than one girlfriend ) .Same stuff on whatsapp but the problem is that whatsapp doesn't have a keypad so eventually you would have to tell anyone who has whatsapp that you know to send you a message so that you can message them . ( Tell them to put their pictures )
I would try to find a way to add contacts to your tablet as soon as possible
By the way this is my first thread on xda so help me out and press the THANKS button
Also I'm going to work on a ROM for the T-Mobile Comet ( aka. Huawei Ideos u8150 ) I'm going to try to get Jelly Bean for the little fellow so anyone that can help me out is welcome

How did you know I am blind!
well, that method doesn't always work. (Maybe if they backed up and restored both app and settings)
It is nice of you to mention it for other people to know.
What is the advantage of using whatsapp over xabber (jabber), skype or viber?

And you're welcome for your compliment
Personally I love Skype it's the highest quality of sound and video and gives you im but whatsapp is more like BBM but for android. The only special thing about viber is that it uses your contacts directly and you have your people on your phone without adding (unlike Skype) I think if Skype uses the integration of whatsapp and viber with your contacts it will be the best app for free calls and msgs out there

[WIP][FREE][ROOT]WhatsGear. Whatsapp from your wrist.

Hey xda!
Since there seems it isn't going to be released a gear-compatible Whatsapp app by official sources I started my way into developing applications for wearable devices with my own client.
Its buggy and not reliable as my knowledge is pretty limited. But it does its job most of the time. I'm trying to figure out how to make it work better, so with time and luck, It will improve.
CURRENTLY WORKING FEATURES:
View the list of chats, with their latest messages and hours.
Open chats, showing up to the last 50 messages (sent or received) and their hours.
View contact profiles from where you can check his/her status and phone number.
Reply to chats from the watch! (Sometimes messages will not be sent until Whatsapp is opened in phone, specially if sending lot of messages in a short period of time. Some other times, whatsapp remains opened in the device after sending it.)
View profile pictures.
View received images
NOT IMPLEMENTED YET (but scheduled/planned/desired for next updates):
Push notifications on watch for new messages, allowing you to directly open the chat in the watch (Replacement for default gear notification.) [Needs some work, but will come soon].
View received images in higher res. View videos/audio.
Last seen.
Group chats.
Start a new chat.
View / edit your own profile
Call and send SMS from contact profile ( there are buttons for it , but do nothing ).
Voice reply
Send images / videos
REQUIREMENTS:
Rooted phone (Android 4.4 KitKat or higher).
Tizenmod.
sqlite3 installed on your phone. If you dont have it, there are apps in the PlayStore that can install it for you, or you can manually copy sqlite3 file to system/xbin from an emulator.
Whatsapp installed (Obviously... ) and working on your phone.
Notification access for WhatsGear must be enabled on phone settings.
Root and sqlite3 are required in order to access Whatsapp's sqlite databases.
I'm not publishing this application in the Samsung Store, but Im releasing it here for all xda users.
If not clear, I have nothing to do with Whatsapp. This is a personal project for my use that I wanted to share with whoever wants to use it too.
I cannot be held responsible for any damage related to hardware, software or data loss which the end user might cause while attempting any procedures, methods or advices found on this thread.
Reviews, bug reports and ideas are appreciated.
Hope you like it

If you swipe right or left in the keyboard special chars should appear. (I noticed some important ones are missing as ",". I'm adding them later).
Whatsapp should be closing by itself without the need of closing it from recents Im sorry to hear it isnt for you. Im at work now, but I'll take a look at it when I arrive home and add a button for force closing on gear app while I can't get It to work well by itself.
Thanks for your feedback.

Well... I have to say! Outstanding work! Its already looking great! Anxious for your next update! Its already better than everything similar we have on samsung store!
Its a shame our beloved Tizen is dying...
Man, you should release it on samsung store too! More people could download it...
Congratulations man, nice app working well and also a nice project! Keep us up to date!
New version released!
Changes:
Reduced chat overview font size as suggested.
Changed the code to close whatsapp. It shoud work better now.
Added a button on keyboard to force close whatsapp on host device while I can't get It to work well by itself. Use it too after done sending lots of messages in a short period of time to ensure all of them arrive.
Fixed a bug causing months to be displayed incorrectly (From 0 to 11).
Fixed a bug causing phone app to crash when trying to send empty messages.
Thank you all for the suggestions and encouragement. Tell me if it works for you.
PS: Forgot to change the duplicated "?" in the keyboard with a "," I will try to remember for next version .
Thanks! testing it right..... NOW!

Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app

mmmm... It shouldn't matter if the watch is rooted.
What version of android is your note running?
Is the host showing any reason when it fails to install the apk?
Android 4.4.2 XXUFNF4.
I can install the apk but gear Manager told me it cannot install the app...nothing more

Well... no idea whats going on.
Can you try sideloading the watch app directly from your pc and tell me if it gets installed or the command output if it fails?
PS: I just installed it on a note 3 paired with a gear 2 neo using Samsung's Remote Test Lab without problems.
Thank you! I'll try later.
But where can I find the Samsung remote test Lab?

Remote test lab is for testing your apps in different devices. I used it just to check if it got installed with your devices well as I don't have a note 3. Not sure why you are asking for it when you own both devices, but anyway its on http://developer.samsung.com/remotetestlab/

Software Development [APP] [JOYING] [SOFIA] Forward dial requests from Google Voice to Joying BT app

I made a small apk which can forward a dial request from Google Voice to the Joying BT Dial app.
the following patterns get stripped out to make it work: " ", "-", "(0)", "(", ")", "."
There is no launchable activity so you cant see it in launcher, it is only visible by the installed apps list in settings.
On first use:
- In the result of Google Voice search (where it repeats your command and call the dialer) you need to choose the new dialer with the 3-dot menu button. the choice is sticky on future calls as long as you dont change it back again.
- And you need to grant Call Permission to it and redo your voice search on the first time.
- You can use a contact management app too (like google contacts), just make my app the default dialer and it should work.
the app is available in Play Store:
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.judlis.googlevoicecallhandler4joying
i will post the source code when i think it is stable enough.
One important note:
If you keep seeing a window with 1 input field containing the number and 2 buttons "Make Call" and "Cancel" please report me the exact content of the input field and, if it is not a valid phone number to dial, the number with minimal changes it needs to be valid. Use "x" instead of numbers to keep privacy of the phone contact.

I looked at writing an app for this about a year ago. I ended up making a modification to the paid app "Tablet Talk" so it would perform the same function. I bought it to allow SMS capabilities on the head unit, but it was able to be modified to also perform this same function. Since it was a paid app, I did not distribute the apk, just instructions on how to modify the app.

Great to see an easy way for users to get this to work without having to buy an app and modifying it. I will give it a try when it is in the app store.
Nice work!

Yes, i used your instructions too before i made this one, thanks.
By the way, Google has approved and enabled the app this morning. So it is availavle now.
Same here: had to install a paid voice assistant (non-modified though) which is able to make "built-in" Joying dialer dial a contact (on non-rooted HU). "OK Google" could not. Still on 1 week demo period. Pity it can not be widely recommended since it only works with my local language (Dusi Assistant). Off: funny it can report news, weather, location, launch navi already with destination, tell anecdotes, call mom etc, manage tasker tasks and other scripts etc. - rather powerful assistant.
Thanks for the app - the link is already alive, will try it shortly (+1).
I've just installed and tried the app, but when Google started dialing there is "Start of Joying BT App failed" error message.
Should HU be rooted for app to work? Mine is not. I used Android settings to allow the app using phone (the only option there), have chosen the app as a default dialer, but no success. I did not do " redo your voice search on the first time" recomendation since did not quite get what exactly is to be done. Tried dialing several times.

on which rom version is your HU? i assume you did not replace the Joying BT apk as you did not install any superuser.
root is not needed.
i upload a modified version which rethrows the exception "joying bt activity not found" so you can report it to play store and i can get it. (should be on play store in about 1 to 3 hours, if you force to research for updates)
My HU is on September latest rom version. I will download modified app and report the state in hour or two, thank you.

Have just sent error report (2 times, under "Error" and "Error2 the same error") using udated application. Hope it can help understand what's wrong with my setup, thank you.

Now it goes one step further: phone number with + prefix is shown at top left together with two buttons like dial and canceal and then says "Joying BT app not found" and there is no option to send a report. I could press dial button again having again that error message.

ok, i am sorry about that.
lets try one more approach. you can find a new version in Play Store.
if this does not do the trick, i will have to debug this with same conditions as yours on my end i think.
Yesss, now it works!
It is not as fast as Dusi in starting the dialing itself - one can feel some background struggle with built-in BT (which shows at screen top like icons flicker), but it does the trick. Just great, you've done it, thank you so much!

can you tell me in what kind of format your phone numbers are? mine are in int. format like +41 99 999 99 99. but there are a lot formats depending of localization, not sure if i got all variants.
and if you use a phone book app like Google Contacts or something similar if you can initiate a call from there?
for all others who try out the app, please report here :
- the format of phone numbers you are using
- and if you use a phone book app like Google Contacts or some similar app if you can make a call from it.
thanks
As to phone format here, it is as follows: if we want to make it kind of "readable", it can look like +7(916)123-45-67 or 8(916)123-4567.
But what surprizes me is how phonenumbers are currently shown in my Galaxy S6 phone: +79161234567 - no any characters to spoil the dialing process, but before your app Google could not really dial those on Joying HU, was only pretending it dials. It was/is OK with dialing by voice on phone itself.
Thank you again, it was a major hole in Joying basic functionality.

+79161234567 is the international format which works, we will see if other formats are used by google too.
if the would be passed from Google Voice Command to the Joying app in exactly this format it would work out of the box.
But the problem is that Google Voice Command reformat the numbers before passing it to Joying depending of the Region with caracters like minus sign, dot or spaces what the Joying app did not like.
thanks for sharing your informations.
Just an observation, I can not explain this: on the first attempt (after wake-up) to voice call a contact no factory BT is initiated. Begins to work from the second try. Pity I mostly need only one outcoming call per drive.

strange thing, i never had this on my unit.
may be a timing problem, but no clue where.
are there any (error) messages?
at which point exactly does it stop?
or whats the exact difference compared to the working case?
can you try the following:
- open the Joying bt-app
- make sure it has connection to your phone
- go to home screen
- try to dial out with google voice command
first of all thanks for the app, would be really nice if the make call button have not need to be press to finalize the process.

should not be needed, just if i am unsure if phone numer is formatted correct.
can you please tell me the exact content in the input field and where you are located? have you stored the numbers in international format?
