Barclays Mobile Banking - Android Apps and Games

Barclays have finally released a proper banking app for UK Barclays customers, but I can't use it due to root
I've tried temporary root removers, no joy. I've restored the original unrooted ROM using CWM Recovery, no joy. I'm thinking maybe it checks something deeper like the bootloader or recovery perhaps?
Anyone with any ideas?

I'm afraid we'll have to wait for someone that hacks the app...

Desperate to get this working, bloody root checkers...

There is an oher thread. The workaround is this: with permission denied DENY the barclays get task. Reboot. Then system\xbin hide the su file with es file explorer then rename the superuser.apk.. Like superuser2.apk remember u have to rename the superuser every time after reboot. Cheers

Do you have the Superuser app installed? The su binary requires this to work properly.

when i read this i realized it wasnt but even after i installed it it still gave me the same problem on terminal, idk if it the actual rom that i installed or what?
first of all, did you root your phone? by any method? if you did, download titanium backup from the market, and when you open it, it will tell you that you dont have root access, press the problems? button, and it will prompt you with a box that has the option to get busybox, just press that button and most of the times this will fix this root permission issue

Spontaneous loss of root privileges on CM 7.1

So I'm running CM 7.1 stable with Matr1x 8.0 cfs and I went to turn on my tethering yesterday and I got a toast notification saying I was unable to start tethering due to an inability to gain root access. As of a few minutes ago, I am unable to gain root access with titanium backup, wireless tether, or the terminal emulator.
Has anyone ever seen something like this, or know what may be wrong?
Thanks in advance

I tried updating from within SU and the prompt showed up, I accepted, and I got a toast saying that Superuser had been granted SU permissions. Then the update failed from lack of root privileges. Titanium Backup and the terminal are still not able to gain access

SuperSU

Hmm, I wonder if devs will start packaging this in their ROMs instead...

I'd like to report that I've been using it all day with no issues. Anyone else?

I've seen it but never thought of trying it. Might include it in a experimental black ice build

Nice. Yeah I haven't had a single issue.
Anything with Black Ice would be great..although I cant imagine it being better! I dont know why, but Ive tried most of the top roms from the dev section, & i absolutely love Black Ice and what it has done in terms of performance! My phone is snappy as it has ever been..

I've tried to run this on my Desire S with Endymion and every time I open it it says...............
"There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Any ideas?
Did you uninstall super user app you had before you tried to install super su? I believe someone on the original thread had that happen and that was the problem. Worth a shot

Did you flash the zip (found in the supersu release thread) in recovery, or just install from the market?
Just getting it from the market won't install the binary needed.
The zip also deletes the SU app and binary. Its the best method for installation.

Obviously, you can't uninstall system apps in the usual way. You need to use something like Titanium backup, or use ADB shell.
Ok, so I went into Root Uninstaller and uninstalled the standard Superuser app but I still get the same message, what is really weird is that whenever an app launches that requires superuser access that Supersu screen pops up and everything works as usual.........
Obviously it's working but I still get that same damn message.......

[HOW TO] Barclays Mobile Banking on rooted S3

I've seen a few threads asking if it is posible to get this working on a rooted S3 so thought I'd share how I got it running.
Software Needed:
Permissions Denied (free from Play Store)
ES File Explorer (free from Play Store)
Barclays Mobile Banking
Steps:
Now, you may be able to just try the last step. I was messing around and managed to get it working after try all the steps without testing in between.
1: After installing Barclays open Permissions Denied and select Banking (the one with the Barclays logo).
2: Deny the 'android.permission.GET_TASKS'
3: Open ES File Explorer, navigate to '/system/app/' and rename SuperSU to anything you want.
4: Navigate to '/system/xbin/' and long press on 'SU' and select 'Hide' from the menu.
NOTE: if you update the SuperSU binary, you will need to do step 4 again!
That's it! I dont know if it will work for everyone but it works for me. I also dont know if Barclays can solve that with an update so I don't plan on updating the app. I'm not a coder and don't know a lot about tje technical details of Android so if you run in to problems I can only TRY to help you.
I've not tried to use any other apps that block rooted phones but feel free to let me know if this works on other things.
Thanks.

Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
I'm not sure. This is the only app I use that checks for root privileges so haven't tested it on anything else.
Could you give it a try and let me know please? If it works for others then this could be a very useful work around.

I've just downloaded SkyGo and the app opens and I get to the TV guide and get the option to watch it of I sign in. I don't have Sky so can't test any further.
I'm assuming it checks for root when it opens so I'd class that as a success!

Hi Faz - Thanks for the info. But when I install permissions, it asks for busybox. I installed busybox but it still says it has not detected busy box please install.
Any advice??
I cant find superSU in system/apps!?. It's not superuser.apk is it?

Permissions Denied is not free anymore
I've posted here how I got it working on my HTC One S, and I'm pretty sure (or hoping) it'll work on any Android phone.
Didn't paste the post here, unsure on if that's allowed.
+1
This worked for me.
Very happy Galaxy S III user.
Thanks Faz1980.
Thank you so much.
Perfect!
This also works on the Galaxy Note II N7105.
One thing...make sure you use the REBOOT command in Permissions Denied after making the change.
superuser has a temp unroot option, it works to avoid root check on dutch live tv app.. try it

Unfortunately since upgrading my SGS3 to zoot1's version of CM10 with 4.2 Gapps, this stopped working for me.
I think this is mainly because zoot1's ROM comes with Superuser and not SuperSU.
However, I followed the instructions on this blog to remove Superuser and replace it with SuperSU.
I still can't get it to work though.

[Q] ES File manager destroys root access until reboot

I started with stock at FP5
Used Odin to flash clockworkmod recovery.
Used clockworkmod recovery to install Tweaked3
then installed Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
and rebooted the phone.
I used the app root checker. it says congratulations you have root access.
Then install terminal emulator from google play
i type "su" and everything works fine.
but when I use ES File explorer and try to enable root features the Superuser dialog comes up like normal. I click yes to allow, like usual, but then ES complains that I don't have root access and then everything there on out tells me I don't have root access.
Superuser reports that the su binary can't be found.
browsing to /system/bin/ and looking myself, i clearly see su sitting there.
I reboot the phone and I'm back to "normal"
I have my root access, everything is fine.
How could ES file manager trying to gain root cause this to happen?
update:
just tried "File Manager" from google play.
same problem as ES
hmmm
I would just avoid ES altogether. It is breaking functionality slowly.
Do I understand you correctly that you have two different superusers installed (Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip)? Perhaps that may the root (no pun intended) of your problem?

haha nice pun,
well, from my understanding it's not the same thing.
there's the SU binary and then the superuser application that manages other application access to the SU binary.
I got them from androidsu.com/superuser
and installed:
binary only
md5: d78ec986923b72dfdaa71d1db731a8f3
su-bin-3.1.1-arm-signed.zip
(3.2-RC3)
md5: 6462ac14cd38ed7c539ce3e29a6b92a8
Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
You could try starting over and using SuperSU. Tweaked moved to that and its worked fine ever since.

ahh, this is the first i'm hearing of SuperSu. I'll have to look into this more.
I agree that you should re-flash Tweaked 3.0 and then just use SuperSU and see what happens. I'm pretty sure you have multiple instances of an su binary on your phone giving both it and you heartburn.

Good to hear and glad we could help.
Stay away from ES File Explorer. I use Root Explorer and it's awesome. It's a paid app though. There's another good one that's free but I don't remember the name.
Can someone tell me what to do in es file explorer to Bork my charge. I have not had any issues that I've noticed. I have used es file explorer on my tablets and all my phones including the whole time with my charge and no probs. I've changed the build.prop. so many times. I haven't tried any build.prop changes on Tweaked 3.0 though. I'm on the Steele Blue theme at the moment. Stock kernel. Holo Launcher.
