Hey guys, I've got a problem, and I'd ask it in the dev thread for this ROM, but seeing as I'm just a newb, I'm not allowed to post there. I've done some light searching around the forum and haven't found an answer, but if I happened to miss it, please forgive me for my newbishness.
Let me preface this by saying hot dang, I am SO glad that I flashed my Skyrocket with SKY-ICS. I've been running stock for half a year and after tasting SKY-ICS, I'll NEVER go back. I've seen that Seanz has worked up a great reputation with this SKY-ICS and now I can see why!
Anyways, my problem is that whenever I'm running PowerAmp and I put my screen to sleep, it stops playing music. When I turn my screen back on, I can quickly see up top that PowerAmp just gets activated again, like putting my phone to sleep caused it to terminate the application. I'm guessing this could be a design in the actual SKY-ICS, as in maybe it forces my phone into deep sleep when I press the power button? The only thing that confuses me on that is that Spotify will run perfectly even when my phone is "asleep."
Is anyone else having this problem? Or at least does anybody have any suggestions as to what I could do to solve this problem?
Thanks for your help guys!

Thanks for the reply, but I did already check on that, and I enabled "Use Wakelock," but that didn't seem to fix the problem... Any other suggestions?

Not sure. I'm running aokp and have no problems with poweramp. Maybe it's rom-related, i'm not too sure. I'll poke around and see if I can think of anything else.
Edit: Wondering if it's maybe due to whatever was stripped from the rom itself. Have you tried the regular safe base? If not, maybe you should make a nandroid and give it a shot if you're willing.

I may give that a shot whenever I get a little bit of time this weekend. I kind of figured it would be something that was stripped or something, but I couldn't ask it in the dev thread. Upon some more in-depth searching in the official thread (I discovered this handy search bar labeled "Search Thread"! Who knew?) I was able to come across a temporary solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28593163&postcount=114
But like I said, I'll probably troubleshoot it by trying out the other flavor, but this is a temporary solution that oughta work... If I find anything else out, I'll be sure to update this thread. Thanks for your willingness to help out a newb, btm fdr!
I just tested this and have the same problem. It's always worked on past SKY ICS Roms. This will be a HUGE inconvenience for me since I listen to music while riding my motorcycle. As soon as the screen goes off, PowerAmp stops playing.
I'll post it in the "SKY ICS AT&T Official" thread.
It's running fine for me on the dragon. Wakelock is unchecked.

I saw this thread in the Skyrocket General section, and then tested myself and realize I am experiencing the same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770780
I'm currently running:
4.2F6 R2 Rom (not speed dragon)
Update 1.7
UCLF6 modded kernel
Issue/symptom:
When playing music in PowerAmp, music stops playing as soon as screen shuts off. Music resumes when screen awakens. EDIT: music doesn't resume automatically.... I have to manually restart it in the PowerAmp player. I am double checking all settings in PowerAmp...
This is a major inconvenience since I listen to music while riding my motorcycle.
I haven't experienced this issue on previous SKY ICS. It worked perfectly on the "SKY ICS Rogers official release". All PowerAmp settings are the same from previous ROM versions (restored from Titanium Backup)
Thanks in advance!

I uninstalled/reinstalled PowerAmp, left the default settings, and it resolved the problem.
I went through each setting individually and confirmed that if I check:
Settings > Lock Screen > Enable Lock Screen
If that is checked, it breaks. If that is unchecked PowerAmp plays while screen is off.
This is a new "issue" on this Rom.
I also don't have the lock screen power amp controls. *shrug* I can live without that.
Thanks for posting the issue in the official thread. I agree, I can do without the controls if I must (as I only discovered them a few weeks ago,) but they really are handy to have. I'll keep an eye on the official thread for answers too.
The process is probably being turned off in setting on power amp theres a box to keep service on when screen is shut off,SKY ICS is a very awsome ROM though I was on it for some time

I tried turning that "keep service on" on/off eariler today while troubleshooting. That had no affect. Like I previously posted, the setting that "breaks" it is the "Enable Lock Screen" in the PowerAmp Lock Screen Settings.
I also tested it with different lock screens (AOSP, Stock TW Launcher Lock Screen, etc...)
This wasn't an issue on the "Rogers" (AT&T Safe) release. This just started happening since I flashed tot he new "AT&T Official" release. I've been using SKY Roms on the SkyRocket since December, and this is the first time it's had this symptom.
I too have only had the problem when setting the poweramp lockscreen not the ics lockscreen that is the only way i can change my music on lock. If i hit enable poweramp lockscreen i get a fc. I havent had the problem of music stopping when i lock my screen, then again i bought my poweramp on the offical site and thats where you can download both the app and the key. So maybe download the app from the site? Has anyone had a probelm with the playlists? I would make a playlist and have like 60 or so songs and every now and then they disappear? Sometimes it just goes to 0 songs but the playlist is still there. I export/import my playlists now to another location but i havent had the time to explore this situation.

So I saw awhile ago that someone posted about their music player quiting after a few minutes and my phone started doing it too. So I downloaded the free winamp app and it worked for awhile and then started shutting down too. So today I realized that I had added those apps to the auto-end list and that was causing the problem.
So for anyone else who has these problem make sure you check your auto-end list
(Love my phone but I still wish it had a more detailed owners manual lol)

auto-end? like a Task killer?
Froyo doesn't need 'em. It know's when to hold 'em, knows when to fold 'em...and knows when to keep them stored in memory so it doesn't have to think very hard when you want to bring that same app back into the foreground. lol
No, I quickly learned that task killers are stupid/useless. I'm talkin about the native task manager, in which you can add apps to the 'auto-end' list so the phone automatically shuts em down after a period of inactivity

ok, right on!
What if this is happening, but it's not in the list? I have nothing in my list. This fix doesn't make sense simply because if you've never added Music to the auto-end list, why would it be there? Mine is locking up and I have no idea why. Just did a factory reset, so we'll see.
lol i know its not a solution for every problem, i just wanted to put it out there for other people like me that didnt think about it before. this is my first android phone so im still trying to figure some things out.
I didn't mean to sound rude. Sorry buddy. It's a great community.
yea no problem
Yea. I'm also having the same problem on my stock D2G. It happens when I'm streaming mp3's. Checked the auto end list and it was blank. I'm going to delete my Task Killer app and see if that does the trick.

It should. It should also increase your battery life and stability of your phone.
I'm having the same problem, once I turn the screen off, the music dies in two minutes. I tried stock music player and others, they all have the same problem. I set my screen timeout to "never" and there is no task killer on my machine and its not in the auto-end list.
Any idea why? should I reset the phone?
Thanks a lot.
Alex
I had the same exact problem and here's how I solved it on my D2G.
I took off music and gallery from my auto-end app list from my task manager. I'm not sure why when gallery is forced to stop, the music also stops playing.
Hope this helps.

Here is a repeateable solution.
I have a Moto Bravo with Andriod.
All music stops 2 mins after the screen goes black.
Look at Auto-close and remove the Gallery app.
All else can stay.
Now works perfectly.
Hope this helps,

Alright I've searched everywhere and I know there's a cure, but where and how. I've found a few threads with people experiencing my same issues regarding the volume on the verizon samsung galaxy s3 sch 1535. Here's the issue, extremely loud almost echoie and can't find a way to turn it down. Tried every possible option that phone has to offer and can't seem to get this issue under control. I'm currently rooted running superchargedwiz rom kyjelly. Only things I have not tried yet were to disable a few of the audio apps that are installed in this rom, don,t know for sure if they would have anything to do with this issue or not. I know full well there has to be a way to access the root of the phone and possibly make a few volume adjustments, but how. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated...
Try selecting the default app for sound effects in settings /sounds, if that doesn't work, try uninstalling one of them like musicfx, I like noozxide better. Reboot, and check the sound again.

Alright here goes in playing around with all settings and see about the musicfx, switched back and forth between beats and musicfx, for some reason volume got better. although i just got an error message regarding musicfx. force closed on me and said musicfx suddenly stopped working, quite strange. could it have had something to do with the extreme volume and not being able to adjust it. may also try to download noozxide.

I remember shortly after getting my Nexus 5 that I noticed a hand icon in quick settings for do not disturb setting..
I went to use it the other day and it had disappeared. I had unlocked and rooted and also flashing custom kernel.
So as I couldn't find any setting to re enable, and suspecting it might have been something I had done, I downloaded Google nexus 5 image and reflashed to stock, but still no joy .
Any advice ?

I don't remember seeing anything like this, as I recall. But I am disappointed that the Quick Settings are not really all that quick. Tapping things like Bluetooth or Wifi takes you to the full settings page for that feature instead of simply toggling it on and off as I usually am trying to do.

If you hold the icon instead of clicking it, it turns on the radio. For example, pressing WiFi takes you to the WiFi settings page, but long holding the icon will just turn it on. Same for BT.
As for the Do not Disturb, I've never seen that. I know iOS has it...and I'm sure there are Google Play apps to do something similar, but Android doesnt have that stock.
Sadly it doesn't exist in stock android. They really have to add that. Every other platform has it except stock android.
EDIT: Yes, I know touchwiz and sense have it.

Thanks. It makes me wonder though how the "average" person is ever supposed to learn little things like this -- certainly not intuitive IMO.
Mystery solved, just realised that I had switched back to my HTC One with a leaked version of sense 5.5

I found that you can press the power button and from that menu you can set the volume to vibrate or mute. Not sure if this is what you were looking for.
Thankfully custom ROMs will be here soon (in more complete/stable forms) to make all of these annoying issues better. Stock Android lacks some seriously useful little touches, but that's why we got unlocked devices....

Folks,
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
Running stock 4.4.2, rooted, Franco Kernel, w/ Xposed ( GravityBox ) and Tasker
Has anyone else had problems with a single button wired headset intermittently launching a classic looking voice dialer versus the new voice search stuff when using the headset's button?
I basically have a Tasker profile that unlocks and wakes my phone after I plug in my headset. This all works fine.
Problem is, when trying to actually use the headset to call someone, this classic looking (and I say that because it's a black background with white text, nothing fancy) voice dialer comes up but no matter what, can not make out what I am asking it to do.
If I hit the back button and try the headset button again, it will then sometimes go to the new voice search and work completely as expected. Not every time. Sometimes the classic dialer wants to hang around for 2 or 3 attempts.
Anyone seen this before? I was hoping to find a way to just disable this 'classic' voice dialer because I'm essentially trying to have my phone be more hands free if the headset is plugged in and know the new voice search works just fine.
Thanks,
bambam2k3

Could you try starting your device in safe mode and not running any apps you've installed to test if one of them is causing the problem? If you don't experience the problem while in safe mode that's a good indication that an app you've installed is the source of your issue.
I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how your safe mode test went after you get a chance to give it a try.

Joannn,
Thanks for the thoughts.
I tested safe mode and the classic voice dialer does not come up at all so it definitely has to be some sort of app or weird way my system is calling something when using the headset in normal mode.
I tried the following with no success in normal mode:
1) Disabled Xposed and all modules - rebooted - no change
2) Disabled tasker and tested with just plugging in the headset and testing the button - no change
3) Switched from Nova launcher back to stock launcher - no change
4) Uninstalled a headset button control app - no change
So, I'm not sure why the phone randomly thinks this old dialer is the correct one to launch, nor do I have any idea where it is coming from. It doesn't appear to be a separate app and even when I look through the system apks, I see nothing that looks like it references this classic voice dialer. Not sure what's triggering it.

I've got to assume it's something related to Tasker or the Secure Settings plugin for it. I uninstalled every single app I could think of that may have had the ability to make any calls of any nature, and in Settings>Apps I don't see the Voice Dialler at all, even before I started uninstalling things.
Without Tasker being used, I haven't seen the bad dialer come back again.
Was really only using tasker to get around the fact that the headset button is ignored if the phone is pin locked. Guess I'll try and find another way around it.
Thanks for your help,
bambam2k3
Okay, I'm going to take that back.
It's got to be stock somehow. I read some other posts and a quick google image search shows other people with the same dialer, especially when using bluetooth headsets from the lockscreen. I've pretty much removed everything from my phone aside from the stock apps. In the varying posts I've seen, the spelling is incorrect in 50% of them, and I don't know maybe if that has something to do with the language settings of the phone.
I also tested a bluetooth headset that had never been paired with my phone before and when the phone is locked, I get the odd dialer, when it's unlocked, I get the proper google voice search.
My next step would be to completely wipe and reinstall. But, I think I'm going to keep trying to figure this out before going to that length.

the spelling incorrect is not google. and if it was google, it would be spelled incorrect for all, not 50% of the people. the next question is do you have a mod for your lockscreen? whatever it is, it is not googles app that you screenshoted. and you wrote that in safemode, it didnt appear. which also indicates that its a 3rd party app.

Simms,
Figured out the 'spelling mistake'. Since I'm Canadian, I was running my phone in English (UK) versus English (US). When I changed it back to English (US), now Dialer is spelled correctly.
As for lockscreen mods, I do have GravityBox running with some Lockscreen tweaks, but in my previous testing, I totally shutdown Xposed. That's all I've got. Had the same problem with it totally disabled.
Just came across this post on Android Police with a lot of comments with the exact same problem I'm having. Seems even with using Tasker and Secure Settings to disable Pin lock, turn off keyguard, wake the device and take it to the homescreen, the phone still thinks the screen is 'off' and brings up the old dialer.

so it seams then that you either need to update your google search or you are using a samsung device and not a nexus 5.
Maybe someone else can help me with this.
Every so often during the day I keep getting a random notification sound with no visual as to what it is. The sound is 5 tones going in a descending pattern and sounds metallic. I do not have NFC turned on nor the facebook app. I checked all my apps and sounds. I even read a lot of threads else where and tried everyone's suggestion. Still does it. I searched my phone for *.ogg and *.wav files. Nothing.
I do have a wallet case but since NFC is off its not that. I've never heard this sound before. It only started a few days ago and I've have this phone for over a month. FYI I'm running the Hola launcher and omni swipe if that helps. Any suggestions?
I am thinking to uninstall ALL my apps and see if it still does it, but I really dont want to have to do that if I can avoid it.:silly:

Hey there.
I have been checking back on this topic for a while because my wife's Note Edge is having the same exact problem. I even reached out to Samsung Mobile Support and they can't even figure out what it is. All they did was tinker with the sound settings and asked me if it was fixed. I have tried disabling all possible notifications from all possible apps. The only thing left is to do a factory reset it seems. Any luck on your end?

Well that's not a pessimistic attitude or anything whatsoever! lol. Here's the thing... It might help to try and remember that nobody is on here getting paid to spend their time answering your questions all day long, so unfortunately it's inevitable that there will be times when people might just have to figure their problems out on their own or just be forced to wait until someone responds.. no matter how "popular" they might be.
This entire community wouldn't exist if weren't for all of the people on here who have been and are willing to spend their own free time sharing their knowledge with and helping others, so it's pretty ridiculous to sit there and act like it's a personal assault whenever nobody answers your question right away! From my experience on here people (including myself) are always more than willing to help out whenever they can (as long as the people are willing to help themselves too), but since nobody is getting paid people need to realize that it's more of a "self help" type of community than anything.
There are literally mountains of freely available information for people to search through to try to find their answers with, and with enough determination and persistence 99% of the time people could answer their own questions without ever even having to ask. So I'm definitely not trying to be rude or anything but it's just all in how you look at it.. because when people come here expecting to be handed all of the answers then they're most likely going to be disappointed and upset, but when you come here looking to help yourself instead you'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes and how rarely you'll have to ask any questions.
Anyway I'll try helping with some suggestions below since they're having the same problem too..

Ok I've actually had a similar problem in the past and I can't guarantee anything but hopefully this might help..
In my situation it turned out being "profiles" that I didn't realize were turned on, and they were causing rogue and unknown sounds to happen because they were overriding my ringer and media volume settings based on the time of day it was. So all I had to do was turn off the profiles and it solved the problem, but it depends on the rom that you're on as to whether or not profiles like that are even an option.
If not another thing I'd recommend doing (and I'm obviously not sure what all you've tried so I'm just trying to cover the bases just in case) is to get a root explorer (as long as you're rooted.. if not I'm honestly not sure what to tell ya) and navigate to the root folder .. then go to "system/media", and inside there should be a folders called ui, notification, and ringtones.. and this where all of the default notification sounds are located. I would go through and listen to each one of them (they should be .ogg files) and see if you can find a match to the one you're hearing, and if you do then you can just rename that file .bak instead of .ogg and that should stop it from playing randomly (basically a bandaid type fix).
If it's not any of the system sounds then you've basically narrowed it down to where it's most likely an app that's making the sound. If that's the case then what I'd do is go into Titanium Backup and filter it to only show "user apps" and then have it sort them by the date which they were installed, and then I'd just start going down the list looking for apps I've installed that could possibly be making the sound.. that way even if you have a general idea around when the problem started happening you can match that time frame up with apps that were installed around that time to narrow down your search (if that makes sense anyway).
Anyway that's what I would do to start at least and hopefully it helps!

Not sure if this is gonna help you or not. But yesterday I started to getbthe same metallic noises, I only recall 1 change to my settings and that was installing the live wallpaper on the lock screen to show me pictures based in weather and such. And since then every hour or so it makes the sound. Try to find out if you did the same thing.
Random notification sound
I am having a similar problem which has been widely reported but none of the suggested fixes are working for me. The notification tone keeps sounding in a seemingly random way. There is no notification to match the tone. This is not just a beep or random noise. It is the default notification tone. (Skyline for completeness). This happens maybe 5 or 6 times in 24 hours. It has been happening for about 10 days.
I am running Android 8.0.0 (Samsung Experience version 9) on a Galaxy S8. The phone is not rooted.
I have turned off all notifications individually.
I have turned off notifications for the phone.
I have turned off notification reminders (it was never on).
I have turned off NFC and bluetooth.
I have checked under Accessibility settings.
I have uninstalled every app installed in the last 3 weeks.
I can reproduce the NFC and credit card issue but that is a single beep and not what I am talking about.
I have installed 3 different notification log readers (NS Notification, Notif log notification history and Notification Log). None of them show any activity at the times when I am getting the spurious tone.
When I re-enable notifications for Texts, Messenger and WhatsApp, I still receive these as normal.
I recently got a new dual band router and thought maybe the tone was the phone jumping from 2.4 to the 5 Ghz band or vice-versa. It wasn't. I thought it might be the phone jumping from telecoms provider to WiFi. Tested that too and that's not it.
Next step is a factory reset which I am trying to avoid.
I know this is bringing problems to the table, not solutions but this is really bugging me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
