Okay, i've been out of the scene for a really long time.
I'm currently running MIUI and so far it's the best rom i've used and most importantly, other than the sh!tty camera, IT WORKS!
my question is: I just logged onto the MIUI.US site and there appears to be an update for the Sensation. Problem is, I cant determine what version of MIUI i'm currently running and whether or not the available ROM is a good update path for me or not.
There's two versions available:
HTC Sensation (AOSP based)Version: 2.6.29
HTC Sensation 4GVersion: 2.7.13
Here's what the settings in my phone say:
Android Version: 2.3.7
Kernel version: 2.6.35.13 Trinity-S4g
Build number: MIUI-20224
IIRC way back when, the MIUI.US version number I downloaded was 2.2.4 or something.
Can someone tell me where I'm at currently and whether or not the available update is worth updating to, based on stability, features and whatnot?
Thanks!

Hy,I would like to know more about the android versions and custom roms.
1)Why some devices do not support new versions of Android?
Why is not working as a PC operating system? For example when windows7 appeared most of the PCs could install windows 7.
2) Why is possible using a custom rom like cyanogen to update to a newer version of android although this version is not released by the producer. Ex. install ics on galaxy S.
3) Using a custom ROM can update a device from the first version of Android to the latest one?
Thank you for your help.
Catalin
To answer your questions as best I can...
1. Most phones can support almost any version of android. It all has to do with their chipset.
2. When a custom ROM is created, it is based on a certain version of the OS. It is custom because it is modded by developers to be compatible with different devices.
3. Yes. This is true depending on, again, the device and the developers. For me, I have had many devices that were on froyo 2.2. And would not get an OTA update. Whereas a custom ROM could kick it up to gingerbread 2.3 or ice cream sandwich 4.0.
I hope this helps!

1. the problem is with your carrier or manufacturer usually. some push updates through fast, others test updates before letting users update. also older phones get forgotten. a new phone will be more likely to get updated than an old one. they want you to buy a new one
2 and 3 what i337 said. i would just add that using a rom bypasses the problem in #1
Also one of the big issues are the drivers. The open source drivers work but don't use the hardware to the fullest. Also non of the OEM related apps and stuff work on AOSP roms. Then you have app compatibility issues with AOSP roms as well.
I'm just a new newbie of android world. Got a HTC Desire S and waited for the ICS as upgrade.
Waited to much, installed a ROM myself.
The question is: I've tried several roms with several differences and I was wondering, can someone tell me the difference between the "build numbers" 3.04.401.1 and 4.10.405.1? Is it that much important?
Build numbers is the version of the Rom and the higher the number, the newer version it is

Build numbers are second to priority when it comes to ROMs, IMHO.
For me, the heirarchy is as follows:
1. Android OS version
2. Build number/version
Build numbers are used to identify which is much "newer" than the other of their own respective Android OS version. Almost the same can be said on the Android OS.
Example, you have an Android OS version of 4.0.4 on a Build Number 1.00.000 from a Device A port. Then on the other hand, you have an Android OS of 4.0.3 on a Build Number 9.00.000 from a Device B port.
Which one should be the newest/latest/updated?
I'm pretty sure you already know the answer.
Now, I'm thinking that your next question will be "Which one is better or faster?"..
It will all come down to a matter of self preference. Only you can decide which version/rom works for you, depending on how you use it, or which one is faster.

Good Afternon
I have been using custom rom for while now.
It's been around 3 month I am using this rom. Nothin wrong except for the camera issue. Whenever I want to take a picture with flash, my phone keeps turning off. Without flash it works great.
Really annoying me.
Is there any way to fix this problem
I am using:
Android Version: 4.0.3
HTC sense Version : 3.6
ROM Version : 3.32.401.5
Software number : LeeDrOiD SuperSensational V7.3.0. ICS
Kernel Version: [email protected]
Baseband Version : 11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_m
Thank you so much
Replace your battery. I used to have this problem too.

Dont post in the dev section if its a question. There is no excuse for this now because there is a tickbox underneith the text area when you post a new thread asking if its a question or not and if it is a question you get a dialogue saying dont post questions in the dev section
I have a fix.

Fixed my problem and then I bought an Anker Battery.
I know there's no such thing as a "best ROM", so I'm not going to ask for something like that.
But is there some 4.x ROM commonly accepted to be stable and recommended for Galaxy Fit?
I'd simply like to get from the 2.3.6 version to a 4.x version without any trouble...
I see that there's an Alpha version for 4.4, some unfinished 4.3 version and a couple of different 4.2.2 versions... It's absolutely unclear to me which one to take. Which one would you?
Thanks!

Thanks for all your suggestions so far!!
Right now my favorites from the suggestions are MIUI V4 and elementaryUX. Based on the comments in their threads they feel to be the most reliable.
The device that I'm going to flash is not mine so I can only do this on weekends. The most important thing is that it runs stable and smoothly afterwards. I'll decide until next weekend which of the two roms to go with and will post my results. Until then I'm still open for ideas and suggestions.
Some feedback:
I tried MIUI first but after playing around with it for half an hour I decided that it's not suitable for our case. It's way too different from a normal Android look and feel. I even didn't find the app drawer...
So I flashed elementaryUX 1.8 and liked it's usability. However in the beginning there were some problems (like touch screen didn't respond well in the upper area of the screen, and tapping quickly on delete in the keyboard closed the current app and went straight to the lock screen...), but after flashing "cm9-9.2-AOSP-kernel-Paul.zip" as amedra suggested those problems luckily went away! Initially I thought that kernel will only do some performance optimizations but apparently it's generally very important.
I still have some issues (like QuickShortcutMaker doesn't work, AFWall+ doesn't seem to work properly, I can't get rid of the brighness control bar in the notification area, etc.) but for the moment I'm happy that the operation suceeded. The device is now running Android 4.x very smoothly. We'll have to see about battery live and stability.
Big thanks to you all!
