[Q]Whats a kitchen? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

I hope this is the right place to post this. But ive been reading alot about developing for the blaze. But ive tried many searches and cant seem to find a simple answer to what a kitchen is? And why some use them although ive read some say they are garbage.

I don't know exactly, but ill try to explain what I know.
A kitchen is where someone "Cooks"
Roms. Meaning that, that is the place where people, most of the time that person being a dev, make the roms and fixes bugs. There is a kitchen called UOT kitchen where newbies go and mess around with the icons and themes of their rooted phone.
Note that I might, or most likely, be wrong.. sorry if I am

Development?

When is our device going to get some love???
:-(
When are we going to get the good stuff for our phones lol??
BTW don't flame me.... I'm just asking a simple question!

there arent alot of Devs on this phone, I dont know who is cooking something up.
Why do you think that is? Why do u think there are not alot of devs for this device?

Its because not too many people purchased this device since it is pretty much a vibrant with 4g and because of all of the new phones such as the g2x and galaxy s2 which are taking even more people away from this phone.

I think we will eventually get some love. There are a LOT of sgs4g phones out there--and with a few tweaks this is a great phone.
Our problem is not many (there are a couple) established developers have this phone. The recent wave of new phones--like the g2x--have stolen alot of the thunder since some of these are easier to develop for and the latest darlings of the CM crews.
The other, and maybe main, issue we have is a very quirky architecture that is really alot different than the vibrant--or else we would probably be benefitting from all of the development on that phone already. This is sort of on hold though until we get a final version of CWM.
This is our biggest roadblock right now. Krylon and drhonk are working on it (they both rock and my hat is off to them for their work on this!)--but they both have other projects for other phones that are keeping them really busy.
I wish there was some way we could help them out. But the issues with it are highly technical and out of reach for most of us at this time. Hopefully some new and fledgling devs will step up in the near future.
After we have a working cwm and rom manager I have hopes for some nice vibrant ports, nice themes, and original development. This might take some time to sort out and in the meantime I am studying edify scripting and learning what I can. ;-)

"Fancy" looking notification bars

I'm a noob (very). I am seeing alot of screenshots where people have really nice looking notification bars. I especially like the ones with the blue colored wifi, signal status and battery icons.
Are those from phones with custom roms? Can I get a theme from the market that will do that for me?
I am fully rooted but very new and feel I'm not ready to flash "stuff" yet...I paid $500 for our phone. I'm studying hard thought.
If anyone knows where I can download and an app that can make my notification bar look fancy I would greatly appreciate any info or links.
Thank you

What version of android are you running? 2.2?
Edit: Also what kind of phone do you have?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Not an app. A theme that you have to flash. Make sure its compatible with your current rom
Typed by Z using the Gingerbread keyboard.
I'm stock 2.2 froyo. Rooted. Bloat free. Fota fixed. Thats all. Very new but eager to learn

Thank you for your replies. I couldn't find anything on the market. The people in these forums seen to know where everything is.
I was hoping someone would attach a download. Lol. I'm not lazy just cautious. I don't want to find out things the expressive way.
Atleast this is helping me build up my ten posts so when I need serious help I'll be able to ask.

Well to the best of my knowledge you can't really tinker with your status bar until you have a custom rom and for the most options preferrably one based off of a Gingerbread (2.3 +) build. If you are already rooted then flashing roms is really safe. Do you have Clockwork Mod Recovery?

@Pagan. Are you trolling? Just trying to learn the lingo and figure things out. What is trolling in a forum?

Hahaha. No I wouldn't consider it trolling lol. Trolling would be if someone came into your thread and started talking crap like "Why don't you use the search function noob!" Instead of trying to help you out. I mean I really hope I'm not trolling you I'm sincerely trying to help you out cuz at one point we were all new at this

oh noes! have i become a troll?!
@pagan HTC Vision. I only asked if you were trolling my forum because after I posted "I'm stock 2.2 froyo. Rooted. Bloat free. Fota fixed. Thats all. Very eager to learn"
You asked me if I have ClockworkMod Recovery. I'm stock how can I have CWM?...maybe you didn't read before you replied. It happens...you also said flashing roms is really safe. So a noob (very) like can flash easily?
Its all good. Lol..
I spend most of my free time racing (at the helm) sailboats. J22's (with spinnaker) mainly.
However I'm a diletante who has recently discovered modifying android phones. I am intrigued. I Want to show people what people are doing. Their genius.. and show off MY phone. I want to be able to do a what you all are doing...
You have gingerbread 2.3 is that custom? Or can I buy it stock?
Thanks for your replies. For real.

Just because you're still running the stock rom doesn't preclude you from having clockwork mod recovery, when you rooted an app called "Superuser" should have been installed on your device. Also you may have an app called "Rom Manager" installed as well, if you don't have that one it's free in the market (and I highly suggest getting it, it is very necessary). Check to see if you have the rom manager app and let me know, if you don't, then download it from market and post back. I'll help you get clockwork mod recovery up and running, then we'll get you a basic understanding of all its functions. After that you can back up your device and get you a custom rom installed.

@Jerry D - It looks like you have the Galaxy S 4G. If that is the phone you have, Clockwork is not quite ready for our phones. We do not have any custom rom's available at this time. So there is no way to change your notification bar.
@golmar88. Thanks for your reply. I have been reading or forum multiple times a day for a couple of weeks now and definitely up to date on our progress.
I'm that noob who is going to study and wait for something I can handle....
I saw rom manager on the market and thought wow this will be cool. I'll root and I'll have a "rom of the day". Lol.
I didn't know the work involved or the risk. After reading what is going on here I'm "hooked". I love learning new things and can't wait until I know a fraction of what some people on here know. I can't wait to flash my first rom.
Thanks again for all your help!

I know right?! As you can see, I'm a junkie (and I don't know anything either). I'm on here pretty much all day everyday, and we don't even really have any development to speak of.
Hopefully we'll get some stuff before too long.

[I9003][Guide(s)]Porting to our device

Hey everyone!!! There are many newbies like me out there who want to learn how to port/develop themes/apps/roms etc to our device . So i was wondering if any of you experienced guys could take out your precious time and give a short tutorial(or at least provide a link).A google search doesn't help much!! I'm tired of just using stuff and watching other people develop it!!!
here are some links
Porting roms- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153500
how to deodex - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113937

You have to be more specific on what you want to do. For rom porting, you will need to have coding skills. For everytjing else, the search box here in xda would suffice.

Lets start with themes!!!
Like said before, searching is one of the best way to learn
You could found threads like this one for themes, [GUIDE] Want to learn how to theme?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx_lkUCu7X0
see this video. Its an app for iphone. But I think by doing changes in framework file we can achieve such animation in menu (just guessing). If apple os is capable of this then definitely our android must have more capabilities...!!

Ok seriously quit it. I know. Ive been here far longer than you abd know pretty much all there is to know. Im well aware that raver is gone, almost entirely due to users like you and the other noobs on the forum.
I know that there wont be fixes, all i said was that there was a port done. I dont even know if he still has the file for it but its worth asking

Sense to me, seems like a drain, people say it's as fast as vanilla, but I just don't think so. Main reason I don't like HTC phones. TW is more bearable!
I have the URL to sense link, but i can't post it :l
