I just got the Nexus S. Before installing CM 7 i tried out the stock launcher with a live wallpaper running. I was surprised at how smooth it was and that it had a very nice way of scrolling through the app drawer. After installing CM7 and launcher pro plus i noticed that opening the app drawer wasn't as smooth with a live wallpaper running and it didn't have the nice way of scrolling. Launcher pro has many more features but the stock did have that smoothness. Is there anyway to get this on launcher pro?
You could try playing with the settings and see if you can normalize it.
There are other alternatives to launchers if you like.
ADW Launcher EX (Paid), ADW Launcher (Free), GO Launcher EX, and more.

not sure what you mean by normailzing. also i would like to use launcher pro only. thanks!
Launcher pro is almost always smoother than stock launcher. But with live wallpaper I know what you mean with the choppy app drawer. Only solution is use static wallpaper instead.
damn that sucks..thanks anyways
The only launcher where the app drawer stays smooth with a live wallpaper selected is the stock launcher, all the other ones get choppy.

Here is a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933517 it's a zip that removes adw and add stock launcher
Stock launcher is the only one that can use hardware acceleration therefore it will always be faster/smoother than any 3rd party launcher.
with the exception of UD Launcher which was used in nscollab for only two releases. Loved it because it was just as smooth and basically the same as the stock launcher but gave you more home-screens and a 5 button dock option and saved a lot of battery even!!!
But then again I guess it is based directly on the stock launcher - at least that'd be my guess.

yes it does, only on the nexus s so far with gingerbread. other phones it is powered by the CPU like normal. i guess google wanted to take advantage of the nexus s powerful hardware. just wish they did it for the rest of the phone, like the web browser, etc.
Yes that's true. Stock Launcher is smoother than ADW, ADW EX and LauncherPro.
I realized that a few weeks ago.
How do i enable the stock launcher? I downloaded Gingerbread Launcher from the market? is that the same thing?
I miss landscape from launcherpro but I don't want to switch from default home screen as it is just too good on ics.
I'm sure there is a landscape mode hidden somewhere in order to support devices like the Droid 4. Can this be forced somehow with root?
You can use Nova launcher for that. Nova launcher is the default ics launcher with more options like landscape.

Thanks. Nova Launcher looks exactly like what I'm searching for. Installed it and it works perfectly while keeping the vanilla Android look!

Yep, and nova launcher does this. All other launchers have landscape too but they don't have the original ics launcher look. That's why nova is perfect.

Trebuchet is CM's official ICS launcher. I looks, feels, and responds exactly the same as stock launcher, because it's a modded stock launcher. It has a ton more features, one of which is auto-rotation.

IMO, if people can't give a well-informed response, they should just ignore the post.

OK I see. Since I'm running unrooted stock rom I guess there is no chance to install it separately from cm...I'd root my Nexus S for it but I'm not interested in CM mod...

Oh that sounds interesting as I'm really only interested in landscape view. I don't need any other option, and I'm afraid that other launchers like nova will eventually be loaded with too much stuff I don't need. I'll check rotation locker out. Thanks for the hint!
you don't need to be rooted to use a 3rd party launcher. if you can use any other launcher, why wouldn't you be able to use this.
...and that comment wasn't directed at any one user...it was directed at all users who claimed there was no ics-like launcher with rotation, sine trebuchet has been out for over a month!!!

Trebuchet requires it to be installed to system so you need root or a unlocked bootloader to place it in /system/app

one update on these orientation locker apps. I tried both the free one and another paid app. In both cases the auto setting wouldn't stick. So it would support automatic screen orientation with landscape but only for a limited time. After some minutes it wouldn't work anymore. So this is didn't really help. I swichted back to nova launcher for the time being.
Desktop vizualizer makes icfons at half size, with no way to fix as far as i can tell, i've told them but have gotten no reply.
folder organizer items work, but it places the shortcuts as a widget instead of a shortcut like it did in honeycomb.
so right now i have no way to add normal shortcuts to my homescreen with a custom icon.
does anyone have any apps that work properly?
I used adw for my custom shortcuts

not really a lot of help. i'm not asking for a custom launcher. ICS launcher is just fine. i just want to be able to actually make custom icons like i could in honeycomb.
i find it really hard to believe that no one running this tablet on ICS with a stock launcher is using custom icons. come on.

Have you tried Nova Launcher? Its basically the Stock Launcher, but allows for editing/resizing Icons and Widgets. Plus, you can install Icon packs for ADW and manually assign Icons of your choice to whatever you want...then resize them if you want.
Nova has a free version, and a Prime version with a few extra fun features. Both are in the Market.
yeah i've tried nova and the others, and personally i don't like/want to use them. i find the stock launcher just fine.
i'm just annoyed because for the first time in android history, i can't make custom icons work right. and i'm just shocked that it seems that no one else here is using custom icons on a stock launcher.
there are some ics roms out there already? are you rooted?

So you seem to be stuck on using the Stock launcher.
Well if you had tried Nova as you said, then I got to know, what about Nova didn't you like? I mean, Nova is basically stock from the look, and it adds the ability to use custom icons or ones from an icon pack, and allows you to resize them...which is what you are complaining about.
So, what is it about needing/wanting to use stock launcher, when Nova is stock with a few added features, one of which is using custom icons.
i don't have my TF rooted, so i lose the widgets menu, it doesn't have the tablet transitions, app drawer is 5x5 instead of 8x5. and to be honest, it's not as smooth as the stock ics launcher for me.
and honestly, i'm just still in a shock that apparently everyone is just using nova or adw.
i refuse to believe that i am the only person on this forum with an ICS transformer that is using the stock launcher with custom icons. that cannot be possible.
I don't plan on rooting my phone until I feel like the phone has had a bit of time to establish itself.
What are some suggestions for a good launcher that works on ICS devices?
I've tried Nova and Apex so far, both are "stock-looking" ICS launchers. Neither are as smooth as the default Sense launcher.
That slight, almost imperceptible jittering as you scroll between home screens just kills the experience, IMO.
May just stick to sense for a while then..

Really? I thought the stock Sense launcher was terribly laggy. For example, if you haven't used your app drawer in a while, it takes one to two seconds to pop up.
Nova and Apex are extremely smooth.
im not getting my one x until the ninth so im just going by what im using on my atrix 2. you should try go launcher ex with the ics hd theme.

Blame the app priority handling for that launch delay.
Nova is, imo, the best ICS launcher. i tried Apex and used it for a good while until the animations for opening the app drawer became extremely laggly. never had this problem with Nova.
I am coming from a Galaxy Nexus so I am used to stock 4.0. I just couldn't do the stock Sense Launcher, it wasn't terrible but I just wanted what I was used to. I used Nova Launcher (my first experience) and I am using Widget Locker as the lock screen. Ahhhh, much better. I also switched to the Stock ICS keyboard. Here are some Screen Shots.
First thing I did when I got my HOX today is go install Go Launcher EX. Sadly, it doesn't appear that Go Launcher EX has been updated for ICS yet, so it has the menu button at the bottom of the screen... yuck!
Guess I'll give these two (Apex, Nova) launchers a try and see how they work out. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give Sense a try either...

You use "Chrome", I thought I try it myself but one of reasons in the past I loved Android was the ability to run Flash.
I use Nova Launcher.
Found the Stock Launcher was lagged, but Nova runs only on ICS+ the pro version for a few dollars asks for no permissions at all.
The pro version allows me to hide shortcuts to Rogers Bloatware.

The clock on the lock screen is part of WidgetLocker. The clock on the Launcher is Simi Clock Widget. I have played around a little more and have this thing looking almost stock (minus the menu bar).
Nevermind, had an issue with live wallpapers not working. Restarting fixed it.

Would be very cool if we can use the Nova launcher or Apex launcher with Sense widgets. Any way to make those work together ?
As far as I know it can't be done, but search for Android Pro Widgets in the Android Market and it's pretty cool - can be themed too.
Nova Launcher is what i was using before on my GNex. finally got it set up the same on the HOX and it runs smoother. before when i'd be on another page except the homescreen and hit the home button, there would be a little stutter happening at least 1 out of every two times. this never happens on the HOX. ever. smooth as butter. very happy with my setup now

Hey guys,
I'm currently using the Google Now Launcher, I really used to love the big & clear icons.
Lately I gave Nova Launcher a try and I really like it - you can add more icons to your homescreen,
the icons are smaller and customizable.
I think I'll switch to Nova.
What's your launcher of choice?
Nova no doubt it.

don't you think?
Nova is much more customizable and it allows you to disable animations. It feels faster than Google Launcher, but Google Launcher falls in with a close second place to me.
I run 100% stock these days, don't even unlock the bootloader. Android in it's current state doesn't need anything else IMO
Huawei home ( no apk drawer ) - fast rock solid.
Apus launcher is replacement is fine too.
Try inspire i started using it with nexus 5 kii kat. It still keeps some of the originality the google launcher has including the google now page !!!

Nova ftw!

I'm using aviate and quite like the change.
