Not to sound like a butt, but I have always thoughts of ZTE phones as bargain basement junk, then again it doesnt mean a company cant turn itself around quality wise. I will keep an eye out to see what ZTE has coming out in 6 days for the "gaming phone"..... thanks for sharing

My first Android was a ZTE(ZTE Blade) Bargain basement sure, but surprisingly good, I wouldn't call it junk, I only got rid of it because I got an upgrade and the screen was a bit too narrow

Same info just expanded.

humm I think I wont risk to buy anymore gaming phones. Bought the Ngage and it sucked, bought the Xperia Play, well it didnt suck but still not what I was thinking it will be... I'll probably buy the OUYA, a gaming console with android
OUYA Specs:
•Tegra3 quad-core processor
•1GB RAM
•8GB of internal flash storage
•HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
•WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
•Bluetooth LE 4.0
•USB 2.0 (one)
•Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
•Android 4.0
OUYA Price: $99 (yeah!!!)
you can find more info here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console

Actually, I'm really looking forward into this. I always hoped that XPlay would be so popular that it would start a "gaming smartphone competition" between other manufacturers (imagining gaming phones from Samsung or HTC).
If ZTE attracts more popularity with its future gaming phones, let's hope others will start producing same type of phones as well in the future (as Sony said they aren't planning on doing an XPlay 2).

I´m interested in this device. However, i´m sceptical if ZTE does it right. Here in Germany, they only released Low-Budget Smartphones and Tablets with Singlecore. Of course they also announced powerful phones with Tegra 3 but they didn´t say anything about a western release date.
So, i will wait till the next week. If ZTE has something good in the works and they release it in the western market, i will consider it the next time when i buy a new smartphone.:good:

look amazing !!!! i'll buy that
dam sony , i wish sony hear us and make next generation of gameing phone , quad core , regra 3 ...
sony , sony , sony , why never hear our request

I don't want an gaming smartphoone i want an gaming smartphone from sony i just love the idea of playstation phone

wonder if sony has a patent for the xperia play that says only they can have a phone with these buttons or something
Could anyone (ZTE for example here) just come along and make a better phone (processor/GPU/RAM wise) and use the same button scheme? When you think about it, there really isn't anything special about the Play. It's basically a regular Android phone but it just has extra buttons.

@typikal82
Maybe when they participate in the Playstation Certified Program, they can use the official Playstation button layout. Would be awesome if something like that happens!
Don´t know if more companies are interested in making a gaming smartphone since the Xperia Play didn´t sell well.

What's the point? Any tablet or smartphone with hdmi connection and with psx controller it's an android gaming console.
Just another piece of metal with limited functionality.
One device that rules the all others. That's the future.

I think AT MOST, SONY have patent to using the 4 logos on the buttons. There's nothing stopping other companies from using "1,2,3,4", or "A,B,X,Y" or any other button-labeling schemes, and then physically locate the buttons in the same places and allow software mapping to "emulate Xperia PLAY mode".
HOWEVER!! A gaming phone from ZTE will never have as much appeal as Sony, to attract the average game devs to write games for. And most certainly, ZTE don't have a heavy-weight brand like "Playstation" to even start talking to Top-budget game publishers/studios.
But in the end... where the hell is SONY when all this is happening!? Bloody hell, Sony, wake up!

ZTE can use 6 main button (( for example A,B,C,X,Y,Z )) with L,R ,start ,sllect

ok... tell me where can I get a tablet with those specs and a game controller with free to play games for that price.

Wait. What does this have to do with the play? Oh nothing. Yeah, figures. Another useless thread clogging THE WRONG FORUMS.

Maybe because it's about a possible new gaming phone, y'know, like the Play. It could rival the Play if it's true and has good specs, especially since a lot of of people (myself not included) want a Play 2. So it's pretty relevant for us Play owners
Sent from my Xperia Play. U jelly?

I'm interested, but halfway expecting that it'll fall into the pile of barely supported physical controller add-ons that, at best, work with 20% of Xperia Play's games.

But you would need a phone still for day to day, so would it not even out. Plus can't take the console out with you on the move.
Sent from my LT26i with hdmi out, sixaxis native usb controller support and PlayStation suite/mobile

Could be great. If it does what the play does and more (and works with all games optimised for the play), I'd be happy. Ive been thinking about my next device (although I'm gonna be sticking with the play for a while) and I'm not too sure cause ive only recently started playing FIFA on my play and love it. Touchscreen gaming is inferior, especially for FIFA as ive figured when trying to play with my tablet. This could be my next phone.....

Here is another article.
http://androidspin.com/2012/06/11/max-payne-mobile-hitting-android-june-14th/
More info from the bottom website.
"There is still one game that many of us have been waiting for though. It is from Rockstar Games. That game is Max Payne Mobile. Yes, good old Max Payne is finally coming to Android. Rockstar did a pretty amazing job at bringing Grand Theft Auto to our lovely devices, now they will be adding in one of our favorite third person shooters. Max Payne Mobile will bring in some HD Graphics, high-resolution textures, Social Club connectivity, user customized controls and gamepad support for select USB controllers. Sounds pretty great already. The list of supported devices and tablets isn’t stellar, but includes quite a few devices that many of you already have. Take look and see if your device is listed before you get to excited.
Supported Android Phones: Motorola Razr, Razr Maxx, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Photon, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Rezound, HTC One X, HTC One S, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Sensation, HTC Droid Incredible 2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung S2, Samsung Galaxy R, Sony Xperia Play, Sony Xperia S, Sony Walkman Z Series Media Player
Supported Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, Dell Streak 7, LG Optimus Pad, Medion Lifetab, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 / 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P, Toshiba Thrive, HTC Flyer, HTC Jetstream
The game is scheduled to land on the Play Store on Thursday June 14th for a moderately priced $2.99. Keep your eyes peeled, we will make sure to let you guys know when it drops officially"
Crossing fingers for Xperia PLAY support
They should have it on sale like GTA III...for $0.99 as introductory offer for releasing it so late...

Max Payne Moblie
What about some feedback guys? How are the controls? Is it smooth? Is it the classic max pain 1 or a new game?

^ a feedback would be very very good, but hell SD files download stalls at 5%.. POS! hahaha OMG I'll just laugh this off..
Nice game ,controls are good but not great. touchpad works but only for turn not walk.
like minecraft?
Definitely buying this for the Xperia Play !
So overall hows the game, must download or can skip?
from xperia PLAY (enjoying N.O.V.A.3)
It's great game definitely one to add to the collection. Lower the aim sensitivity and plays better, Details are great like shooting the drinks cans and glass and if course the max Payne story line is perfect and keeps you along for the ride. I expect most of the SD data is music and samples as that is also perfect. But for once you have to think did gameloft Do a better job of this sort of game as 9mm compares as a great alternative (multiplayer). Don't get me wrong max Payne is the classic but we are in the hear and now and could it could have been brought more up to date then it is (graphic tweaks, social networking). Still defined in my top 20 xperia play optimized list so I say buy it

Thanks for the feedback, i am definelygoing to buy it. What i always wanted to ask you, do you know what "poo" means in german? (Google translater wont help)
So far this game runs great. Totally worth the 2.99 price without a doubt. Graphics are really nice and it runs smooth. My only complaint is that Tue touchpads are for looking around and they can be a bit touchy. Otherwise just like I remember it on my old Xbox

No idea lol. When signed up to xda it was the first thing I thought of.
Ps sore you talking in other parts of forums. Should go for xperia S not p, u or sola. Have some of each and always go for the S for the power difference and ps suite. Was play playing sonic4 ep2 Tegra3 title using chainfire other day and runs ok on it. p has very bad death grip and u is to small. And sola could look better

how did you get the touchpad to be used as look i can only get the screen for that which makes playing rather difficult if one hand is in the screen and one on the gamepad

It's finally here! It took almost a year but the best game of all time it's finally available on Android! Those of you who already have CT on your emulators are probably wondering why you should get this. Well, THIS IS NOT THE SNES VERSION it has all the extra dungeons and re-hauled menu from the DS version.
For those who haven't played it yet and are on the fence due to the price: this is not excitement speaking, this IS the best game of all time. So do yourself a favor and play it. $10 for over 15 hours of gametime plus great replayability is a good deal in my books.

To be honest, this is Square Enix we're talking about. I doubt we'll see a sale anytime soon. I cannot recommend this game enough for you guys. Maybe watch some gameplay videos before you decide.

Probably you are right, the price wouldn't go down for a little (long?) time, but probably I would buy it because I've liked dragon Quest and I haven't played chrono trigger only because it isn't in italian (yep, I probably can play the game in English, but in italian it is easier for me) and the ios/android version is the only one officially translated
Is this version better than emulating the original Chrono Trigger from PS1 via FPSE?

The original Chrono Trigger is on SNES not PS1! If it is not xperia play optimalised it is not worth buy. Better - buy CT on PS1 and play it using fpse or epsxe. For me (and for many People of the world) is the best jrpg of all time.

Ditto.
It would be worth the £10 if it was optimized for the play, the IOS version was slated so i'm not sure how good this one is going to be. Just emulate the SNES rom
I'd probably try it(at least it came out) but unless buttons are fixed or I get the custom button mapper working(no root) I'll probably stick to the ps1 port via psxperia. I've been reading reviews and apparently, the game doesn't fully download to full game to your phone and requires updates now and then; I guess that is to deter illegal downloading? Also if I do decided to get my phone rooted in the future, does it allow rooted phones to play or has that been blocked too as that seem to be the trend?
After playing it for 2 hours I can confirm that it works on rooted phones. Touchscreen controls are easy to get used to, not a big deal. However, the game does download files from time to time and therefore requires a constant connection to wifi or 3g. ****ty move from Square Enix but I'm not surprised.
If you are passing this one to play the emulated PS1 version, at least do it right and play the SNES one instead. The loading times for battles and menus are atrocious on the PS1 version.

Not to mention you save 500mb on sd just for slightly better music. Snes = 5mb, PSX = approx 500MB
Always thought snes was one of the best choices for emulating on Xperia play as there is no fiddling buttons around (e.g. L2,R2) it's a perfect match to our pad. Also check out SuperGNES has a great UI with cover art.

On ps1 version there are cutscenes in anime style. But nothing special. Music is same as on snes. DS version has additional quest (as I remember).

Just dropped by to say that I finally beat my replay of this wonderful game. For those who decided to emulate you definitely missed out. The new dungeons are a very nice addition, didn't get the new ending though. Worth every damn penny.
Eh, without the XP gamepad being usable, it sounds like I'm better off sticking with my existing copy of the DS version .
Curious, has anyone tried to run the game without an active connection to either wifi or a cellular network? I'm also not a fan of apps that regularly download in the background, especially if there's the potential for it to need to do this with large files.

I remember the game downloading stuff only at 3 points: when you enter the map on 600 AD for the first time, somewhere in 2300 AD, and after entering the bridge for the 1st time in 600 AD. After that I would just start the game, hit the home button, turn off wifi/data, and keep playing without a problem. I cleared it that way without an issue.

So I upgraded from Play to Xperia P ... and am rather disappointed [games related]

So I recently upgraded from Xperia Play to Sony Xperia "P".
I must say I am rather disappointed as far as games are concerned. This is NOT about physical buttons, I knew what I was getting, and besides I mostly play games that can be easily controlled with touch controls.
Many of my games appear as incompatible (Six-Guns, Juggernaut, Lara Croft, MOST of new Glu games - Death Dome, Dragon Slayer etc.. - I sent an email to Glu about this), also GTA 3 has graphical problems it usually gets stuck when a cut-scene is going on...weird, is this normal?
I believe there are knowledgeable people here as far as GPUs and such are concerned, can anybody tell me what is the problem here?
I wonder if Xperia P's graphical unit is less powerful than Xperia Play's... but how could that be it's a newer model....
Another disappointment - the phone immediately offered me an update to Android 4.0.4. I did the update and now it seems like there is a noticeable lag when moving between screens... The Gingerbread was smoother.
I would really appreciate your thoughts/advice on this, guys.
Did I make a stupid thing to choose another Xperia phone to upgrade or should I have chosen a more powerful phone....
No offense at ALL, but your pretty stupid to by a sony phone. They all suck. Except xperia play and thats only because of the gamepad.
I would rather go with a samsung, htc or a nexus instead of the new sony xperia range.
They all suck?
WTF kind of argument is that? That's something a 10 year old would say, sorry.
What I like about this phone is the reasonable price, good camera, design...
Now tell me why should I choose a HTC which is twice that price, at least where I live?

Xperia-Play
NXT 1.3 LE
YNWA!
Not all of them suck, at least. There are a fair few that hav awesome feature. But its a bit weird how choose to buy ur phone. What are your reason in buying such a phone if want to game?? Thats not what the phone are made for. Un-like Play, the gamepad/touchpad "clearly" state what the phone are made for. So...

I am now embarrassed I asked this question HERE.
It's called XDA DEVELOPERS so I thought, hey, maybe some knowledgeable people will respond and explain why some games that worked on Xperia Play seem not to work on Xperia P. I expected some expert advice on GPU capabilities and such. Instead I got a bunch of pubescent idiots laughing at my choice. Serves me right.

It down to the develpers. When we got our S,P,U and now T half the games on Android did not work with the device's. So its not down to specs, its just game developers have not been able to test on them or dont allow support just in case. The P users a Nova daul core and at the moment many developers have not been able to test much on this (Same as U) even on our T (S4 daul core snap) we can hardly play any game at the moment (E.G NFS MW crashes at title) Its only a matter of time so dont be put off by these comments.
PS to all Sony haters, Sony brought you the Xperia Play and many of the devices that they have made this year S**T on most other device's by other developers so don't be to quick to judge. P (Not the top of the range) White Magic, Daul core, Looks great, Small (compared to other 2012 device's), Sonys camara tec, Sonys music history need i go on?
If I were you I would sell Xperia P and get Nexus 4 + Sixaxis Controller
Same price + more powerful hardwarely and smoother softwarely + full
And yes Xperia P's GPU is weak even Tample Run lags in that phone.

Your right ICS was a F**k up by Google. Why do you think JB is 4.1? All it is is a correction (Use's less Ram) Meaning better gaming and multitasking. Our daul Core Xperia S 1.5ghz lags with ICS and our T (S4) struggles but hide's it better.

If I were you I would sell Xperia P and get Nexus 4 + Sixaxis Controller
Same price + more powerful hardwarely and smoother softwarely + full
And yes Xperia P's GPU is weak even Tample Run lags in that phone.

I think its easier to ask what u wanna ask at the "Xperia P,U," Forum instead of here. So dont blame us if we didn't answer what u were asking. Every1 that come here "always" been told to ask Q at the right section. So use search box, find ur phone & ask ur Q at ur phone forum Q&A section. I know they'll be happy to answer any of ur Q & confusion bout ur phone.

Its has a lot to do with the developers allowing device compatibility in regions too I think.
For example, here in the UK I get a lot of games appearing as 'incompatible with your R800i' and even changing the model to R800x it still shows as incompatible.
This happens with me on various games, worst of all being Fifa 12, which was initially released on the PLAY!!
More recently, lots of users have been unable to purchase Most Wanted, whereas others have no problem.
I know undisputedguy has been having very imilar problems to me too!
If the Xperia P had a Snapdragon S3 like its big brother the Xperia S I would have gotten it along time ago, But a NovaThor dual core chip is not appealing to me, The Exynos 4 Quad is much more appealing, I'm glad I got my Galaxy S3, Most Xperia Play optimized games work on my S3 with my PS3 controller.

because the Xperia P using mail 400 GPU ,and the Xperia Play using adreno 205
First of all, I'd like to say I'm disappointed by the childishness on this thread. This forum is here to help, not to be laughed at. And I do see why you'd upgrade, the dual core CPU, higher-res screen and better camera seem appealing.
I think the reason that some games aren't compatible is that the GPU isn't used a lot, so it would take some work for developers to make it work, which wouldn't be worth it.
The Mali-400MP is on paper faster than the Adreno 205. Maybe you can make the games work with Chainfire3d (if you're willing to root etc.).
When I looked at the specs, I saw that a JB update was planned, so that should sort out the lag problem on your homescreens. In the meantime, you could use a launcher (I really like Nova atm).

Should I buy Shield?

Well, I do have a very great steam collection but I dont have the proper pc hardware to stream them to the shield. (Im sure I could through using some app like splashtop gamepad thd) the price, not sure if the shield is really worth the 349$ price tag but then again, ive bought an ipod touch 4g with 32gb for 299.99 which had terribly outdated hardware at release so I dont really have ground there. Im big with emulators and the gamepad makes this phenominal for emulators. If this was rooted and cwm was flashed on, you could possible gain access to the OUYA appstore adding a whole new library of games. Theres many android games I enjoy playing on my nexus 7 such as GTA 3/vice city and shadowgun thd which would be much greater with a gamepad. Is it worth the 349.99 price tag given my position? Pretty much the only down side would be not having pc game access (not natively anyways)

well for me the steam streaming is a big part of why i want one. but i also want one for some other reasons.. such as the amazing amount of power packed into a tegra 4, the fact that i don't already have a tablet, and the fact that nvidia rarely disappoints. (and its just too cool of a device to pass up).
my main concern is that i hope nvidia gets alot of android devs onboard to program there games to the nvidia controller. games such as Ravensword, and asphalt.
don't know if this helps any but just my two cents.
If the android games not optimize for nvidia shield, then you can use the game mapping tool like gamekeyboard from google play store to map the game with the shield controller. Hope this help.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sb2NuZXQuZ2FtZWtleWJvYXJkIl0.
Quite a few android games do support gamepads (have a feeling asphalt might, the GTA games definitely do as do dead trigger and shadow gun) and should work with the shield already.
I'm quite interested in loading a shield up with emulators. Be interesting to see how well dolphin for android works on the tegra 4.

asphalt im almost certain won't have support (not right away anyways). no other gameloft games have gamepad functionality either unless you count support for gameloft's own gamepad. I'm also not sure I need it as I already have a nexus 7 tablet which is suprisingly easy to slip into a pocket. I am a gamer though so I feel the need to be on the cutting edge and even with the 1.7ghz overclock my nexus 7 still feels quite stressed on certain games. Dolphin will definitly be great but i feel it wont flourish on nvidia shield as i believe tegra 4 lacks open gls 3.0 which is something snapdragon has.
I think asphalt already has controller support see in the picture if I'm not mistaken this is built in controller support.

Thats not controller support. Thats tilt control. Completely unrelated.
Although according to google it does support a gamepad

Here's a nice offer: Tell me the full name for Asphalt as listed in the Play Store, and I'll load it up, tell you how it is.
Also, I'll try loading the Dolphin emulator. I've played a little with emulators on the device, but didn't have much luck with an emulator that would play the one PSOne game I actually had the ISO for (Thrill Kill).
I think it is just asphalt 7 or something like that.
the dolphin team i believe are using super Mario sunshine as a test ISO. However so far no devices have been able to emulate at more than 1/3 speed.
As wrc1010 has posted above, the application game keyboard allows for users to map function for hardware keys.

Not much luck with Asphalt 7, since it crashes on the infamous "Checking License" loop. Trying some hacks to get around it, but it takes a while, plus I actually have *work* to do.

No, bugfixes for Shield.
And sadly, in regards to Dolphin emulator, it doesn't like Super Mario Sunshine at all. It doesn't even load it. I grabbed the only one on the Google Play Store I could find, so it's also possible that I'm not using one that actually *works* with the game. So if others have links to something better (or an APK), be glad to keep trying.
Asphalt 7 does *not* support controller natively.

Did you try out the game keyboard app? I think it allows you to map onscreen commands/gestures to physical input.

No, I just did a test to see if native support was there without having to root or anything else.
I see, if you had an interest in adding gamepad support to games I highly suggest it

I think YES
I think, you should by a Shield. The Tegra 4 is oneof the fastest ARM-CPUs, that are aviable on the Market. For a price of 300$ i definitly would buy it.

Old post
Looks like Square Enix wants to port some mobile RPG's to PlayStation Vita and what easier way but on the PlayStation Mobile store as less to port.
What does this mean for us? Well I will tell you Xperia Play Optimized classic RPG's from the best of the best that's what.
First off is Chaos Rings which releases in Japan in July (If can read Japanese then it's time to make a Japanese PSN account) kinda hope this will be a world release and not just regional, but a start is a start and hope for more for all in the future

I really don't intend to spoil the fun here, but after having tried a few of these Chaos Rings games I can't see the appeal.
I am of the generation that enjoyed FF VIII, IX and X and also Chrono Cross (but not Trigger) and I find this series incredibly dull. Sorry, just my opinion.

Agreed I have all 3 already but the big picture is that Square Enix is on board with PSM. This means we could finally see Final Fantasy 1/2/3(NDS)/4(NDS) and chono optimized and official for our device too

That's nice - for people who live in a select few countries where Playstation Mobile is available. Where I live - plus I believe many other European countries - Sony just can't be bothered to introduce this service. Well at least we can emulate those games via ePsxe or convert them to PSXPeria.
It's out with controller support for all region's

No one will buy this? are you spoiled for choice on your 2 year+ old device? To me its great news that big games are coming to PSM as this will be the only way to get optimized games for Xperia Play in the future. Developers on Google Play will drop all 2.3 support soon with newer titles, as a small percent of people are still running old Android devices and its extra coding that can be avoided. With PSM Xperia Play optimization is included to all controller supported games as its native code in the PSM SDK so we will still be included for a while yet.
PS. I own the Google Play version from release day and i will be buying this just to play on my Tablet with Dual Shock 3 so their will be at least 1 person buying it
I am seriously considering buying it again so I can play it properly on the big screen with my OUYA.

What's the matter with my XP? I don't understand...
I bought this game on itunes years ago when its first coming, i love it so much so that i bought this again on google play years later to check if it's XPO,but it's not i was so disappointed. After one more year the XPO is coming...
Seems that you wanna me buy it for third time?
SE published this **** for three times for tricking money by unbelievable fuxking speed, the only difference is the gamepad suported, WTF?
AND it's just the first work, very very old one, if omega and 2nd released may be i will consider it for few seconds cause i havn't own them just on android yet
i think all people who loves this game has bought it years ago or android or ios, very few people get wait it for years just gamepad supported version like you or like me ,very few...
If SE has a little conscience, they won't leave the xpo version to psm till now, and if that so the porting work will be much easier.
Awesome! I only have one question. Is it totally fullscreen or will it be letterboxed?
