[Q] Error 170 while connecting HTC Desire with PC - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I have HTC Desire and I wanted to update it to Android 2.3 (It's not OTA, it's version RUU "for developers"). So I downloaded it, launched the .exe and proceeded through the instructions. Then it tried to connect to my phone, and there is:
Verifying information on your Android phone. Please wait...
Click to collapse
Then:
ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR
Click to collapse
When I plug the phone to PC, it is visible - for example I can copy some music to it. I tried to install HTC Sync, but when i'm doing it, this appears:
The installation of MSXML 4.0 SP3 appears to have failed. Do you want to continue the installation?
Click to collapse
I click "Yes", then another element is installing, and there is another error:
1152: Error extracting C:\DOCUME~1\PauL\USTAWI~1\TEMP\{4BB13 to the temporary location
Click to collapse
But I went through it, and then there is another error. Its in Polish, but in English its something like:
Function, which you are trying to use, is in unavailable network resource.
Click OK Button, to try again or input alternative path to folder which contain package "HTC Sync.msi" below
Click to collapse
And below is:
Use source:
C:\Documents and Settings\[...]
Click to collapse
And button "Browse"
When I click OK - it's still the same error. Should I install some other drivers or something? Is it neccesary to install HTC Sync to connect my phone to PC? If yes, then what should I do to avoid that error and install it correctly? Thanks for help.

I have installed older version of HTC Sync (2.0.33) and it works, it connects with the phone, but still when i'm installing the update there is the same error, no connection.

Program... is not digitally signed with trusted certificate. HELP!

I tried everything: SDA_ApplicationUnlock, HTC_ApplicationUnlock, SdkCerts.cab, SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab, default_signed_disablesecurity.cab.
Of course experimented with hard reset, different Active Sync versions.
Just cannot install PocketUAE, PocketSNES and other unsigned apps.
use VS2008 to adjust your security level.

Hm you can use Security Configuration Manager to turn security off!
Install it to your PC and connect your Phone via ActiveSync. Then choose Security Off and click promote! After a little while it's done!
Download from MediaFire
Thank you very much!
Would you please renew the link for this program.
Having the same problem with "...trusted certificates"

Gosh! Vielen Dank! Thanks a lot!
Wil it work with WM 6.1? Any instructions?
Will be much appreciated.
It should work with 6.1, same instructions as above.
This program is 100% working!!!
It was just perfect, man! As you said, I chose "Security Off" and it gave me report that "tool.cab" was successfully installed!
You saved my life, I'm really grateful!
Strongly recommended to everyone who has a problem with "Trusted Certificate" and *.cab files installation!
Once again, Vielen Dank!

I downloaded the Security Config Mgr to PC, connected phone with ActiveSync, ran program to turn Security Off but getting same error on phone to Security Mgr access "program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate".
Its a new phone through work so I didn't know if they could lock up security/access in other ways.
Any thoughts?
If it helps, the Security Mgr indicates the current config on the phone is "One-Tier Mobile2Market Locked".
When I click on provision, I get a pop up on my phone to install Tool.cab, I click yes, but it said the install was unsuccessful and error comes up on my PC.
+1 Also having problems with the program on Windows 7. Any alternatative way to update the security settings on the phone?
this program works great.. you saved my day, buddy
Cheers

For anyone having a problem with this program on 7. It's likely that youre running x64 and it's also likely that this is 16 bit software. Install XP mode from microsoft.com and youre set

I found the solution Special THANKS to JZ SmartMort
Following simple steps:
1) Download following file: http://www.internet-tools.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/sda_unlock.zip
From archive we need only SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe
It allows Registry to be edited from PC.
Run it with working Activesync connection
2) Download Mobile Registry Editor: http://www.zipsoft.ru/catalog/mobile_registry_editor-v1_11.html
Also run with working Activesync connection
3) and modify the following keys to the values listed.
("HKLM","Security\Policies\Policies","0000101b","1 ")
("HKLM","Security\Policies\Policies","00001005","4 0")
("HKLM","Security\Policies\Policies","0000101a","1 ")
("HKLM","Security\Policies\Policies","00001001","1 ")
("HKLM","Security\Policies\Policies","00001017","2 4")
It perfectly worked with HD2, but I guess it should work with all WM devices.
FYI, here are some other useful software packages that relax the security.

I've experienced this too. Sometimes helps softreset after download and then install.
I have tried hard reset and soft. Every app from the market place does the same thing. Download then failed install. Also when I plug the usb in, my computer doesnt recongnize. Such a newb.
do you have activesync on your computer ?
Yes, activesync doesnt recongnize either.

it is an usb recognized issue ... first uninstall active sync then install it again then launch it then plug your phone and wait untill the installation of your new hardware installation finished ..
for the market place check your settings and make the installation on device ... maybe you have it on storage card and you have issue with storage card ... and also try app confirmed to be working for hd2

Can't install ADT plugin for Eclipse-Error-Win7 x64

Whenever I try to install the ADT plugin, I get the notice, as Google instructed,
Note: If you get a security warning saying that the authenticity or validity of the software can't be established, click OK.
Click to collapse
But when I click OK, it shows an error and says Installing software has encountered a problem. I don't know what should I do. I Googled the error but nothing came up!
The error:
Code:

session context was:(profile=SDKProfile, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Install, operand=null --> [R]com.android.ide.eclipse.adt 18.0.0.v201203301601-306762, action=).

[Q] USB not detected

My phone is still a stock phone, all I have used was only official OTA updates in the past 2 years. All I wanted to do are just flash recovery and try some 3rd party ROMs on this phone. To get everything started I have to unlock bootloader via HTCdev, or maybe do some backup using Helium. Either way I will have to connect my phone to my pc via USB cable. But the USB just not detected. I think there's a problem caused by the 4.2.2 update? Before that everything was fine. See what I've tried already below.
Model of my phone
>One XL Asia (international?)
Bootloader details
>In the attachments
Current ROM/kernel
>Stock
Current recovery
>Not flashed yet
All events that lead to your current situation
>I haven't done anything to it
What you've tried already
✓unplug and replug (over 9000 times)
✓uncheck and check USB debug (over 9000 times)
✓reboot my phone and try again (a few times)
✓uninstall USB driver on my PC, then reboot PC, re-install (a few times)
✓switch cable
✓switch PC
✓switch USB port
✓switch phone:
magically, when I switch phone, which is a HTC desire, everything works fine, USB detected, adb works well, fastboot command works well
under same condition, everything works fine on the desire, but only when I plug my One XL in, everything don't work, so I bet the problem is on the phone?
Anything else that's relevant
>Phone running Android 4.2.2
>My PC runs 64-bit Win 7
>Maybe what I included in attachment will be useful?
I have the basic knowledge on flashing ROMs and stuffs, but I'm a noob in front of all you gods, please help.

"One XL" not found in device manager, it shows "unknown device" removing that does nothing
Can you get Harware ID for that Unknown device from Device manager??
If you can add that Hardware Id to your Drivers .ini file and update the driver manually pointing to that driver folder.
Edit: I tried the drivers from this post and they worked for me

In the link I posted you will find a link to download the Win 7 64 bit drivers for HTC.
http://d-h.st/OYI
Unzip the archive downloaded from the link. In the extracted folder you will find a file named "androidusb.ini" open it with Notepad and Add your device hardware id found from the device manager to the file like below and save it.
%MyHTC%=HTCAND64.Dev, USB\XXHARDWARE_IDXXXXX
Follow the steps from this link to update your drivers once above modification is done.

sorry i have been busy round these days, no time to deal with my phone
look at the attachments and you'll know why i included some Chinese words, in case my roughly translation is not accurate, you can still copy them and see what google translate says
i right clicked on the "unknown device" in device manager, and clicked into Properties(內容)
and in the 3rd tab(詳細資料), i can't find any similar Hardware Id, but however i found some id-like thing and tried
then when i came to the 10th step of this page: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/update-drivers-windows-7.htm
something pops out and says
您指定的資料夾沒有包含裝置可使用的相容軟體驅動程式
如果資料夾中含有驅動程式,請確認它已設計為搭配 適用於 x64 型系統的 Windows 使用
it's roughly says there is not usable driver for win 7 64 bit in that path file i selected, then it did nothing i have to close it
and i just found out, when my phone is in fastboot and USB connected, ADB command works fine, if you know what i mean
that means, i can unlock the bootloader, but still, i need to backup my apps and data, is there an alt solution for me to do backup rather than fixing the driver and use Helium?

Glad I put up screenshot so that you know I was at the wrong place
Pretty sure I'm at the right place this time as the other 2 devices shows the right thing (same cable same port), but it shows "UNKNOWN" :crying:

I think it is recognising your phone as USB device.
