Baseband version: Unknown - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All of a sudden, after working fine for months, my radio (I believe it was UCKF1) quit. Tried rebooting, going into and out of Airplane Mode, still wouldn't connect. I hadn't flashed anything for several weeks, since I installed the Trinity Kernel.
Flashed UCKJ1, no luck. Flashed UCKF1 (version 2), no luck. Tried the "Lost 3G Connection" tweak in the Radio thread (which seems to be the same as the HSDPA Tweak.)
In About Phone, the Baseband Version shows as Unknown.
No APN shows up.
When I go into Network Operators, an error message comes up.
Any tips?
Phone: i9020a, running on Telus network
ROM: Bugless Beast, 2012-06-09, ICS 4.0.4
Build number: IMM76L
Kernel: Trinity 3.0.8-TNS-g3c5dd00

Try reverting to a Nandroid you have before you lost connection? Make sure your SIM isnt damaged, Flash the newest radio meant for ICS on the I9020A, if you flash this, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN I9020A http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=989490&stc=1&d=1333848754

[Q] Downgrade from leaked radio

I don't think I can post in developement yet..
Anyway...
Rom: VirusROM AirborneTB RC1B3
Kernel: ziggy471 2.6,32,36-BFS
I upgrades to DasBAMF 1.5 with the new radio and I couldn't send/recieve mms/sms, signal was weak, if any...
I reflashed to my backup of VirusROM at work, still kinda problems but usable..
I just flashed the
"First up, we have the 1.13.605.7 CDMA/LTE radio combo.
CDMA Radio version: 1.16.00.0402w_1
LTE radio version that came with 1.13.605.7."
at work (thinking it was the older one)... still kinda messed up but working for sms/mms etc.
Just did a fresh reflash of virusrom, not a backup, at my house can anyone give me the stock RUU for the older radio, not the leak? Signal is good, and I sms,mms work, but I had less problems on the non-leaked radio,,
nevermind
edit:
i think the radios in the radio thread should work. try rebooting, wipe, and toggling airplane mode.
but if you look at the root thread maybe try the last ruu you flash??

Please help with modems, nothings working

Just switched over from a Samsung Captivate.
Flashed back to stock, radio is working and get 4g. Flash JB (SLIM JB), everything is fine. My gf could not hear me well while on the phone, it was echoey so i tried to flash several of the different radios for the I727 and nothing works. Error when connecting to network, no radio, no IMEI, basband unknown, etc.
What am I doing wrong?
Tried the Telus and stock ATT modems, the Blaze 4G modem and a few others. Absolutely no signal. Please help, I would appreciate it. Nothing in my search on the forum here.
BTW I am on telus and the telus radio seems to be fine for most but I get nothing.
I keep reading about RIL, people mention deleting the RIL with the GB modems (the telus modem is GB I believe). How do I do that?

That situation usually does not happen to me. But when it does what I do is: Take out the SIM and microSD, flash a darkside wipe on recovery (search on the forum) , flash a working modem for my device ( not a blaze or telus one), then only then flash the rom. Boot it, wait it settle for 10 min, turn off, put the SIM card back a restart.
It should work.
If it doesn't try to flash the original rom via ODIN ( can look how on vin's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398)
Only thing I've ever had to do is to reset the APN.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Thanks guys.
If I flash the original ATT or Rogers modems that came with ICS without RILs it works. Baseband shows... Most of the other modems I have flashed (with RIL) either do not work at all (no IMEI or network connection at all in most cases) or a few work but baseband is unknown.

Glad it worked out for you. Just to clarify, but as far as I know baseband Unknown means nothing regards radio functionality.

[Q] i9020t Can baseband be modified on Slim-NS-4.2.1.Beta.2-OFFICIAL?

I'm loving the Slim-NS-4.2.1.Beta.2-OFFICIAL (JOP40D) with all AIO_Addons as everything runs beautifully. Only problem is that with this configuration, using TWRP 2.3.3, my baseband has been changed to I9020AUCLH1 whereas my Nexus S model number is GT-9020T.
Is there any way for me to stay on my current ROM but modify the baseband so that I can restore my 3g data service? Right now, I can make calls (and even get Edge service for five minutes every once in awhile) but I cannot get consistently registered for 3g data.
If I have diagnosed my problem correctly, the problem either lies with the baseband version or the kernel as this is likely setup for AT&T. I'm happy to customize either the baseband, kernel, or radio but I just need some direction on how to do so without flashing another ROM, unless of course it is also 4.2.1 (I know how to go back to stock ROM just fine).
I have tried modifying the APN settings but to no avail: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675006
Kernel version:
3.0.57-bedalus-g0bba1b5-dirty
[email protected] #1

I also know that the next version of the [ROM][4.2.1]Slim Bean (Crespo) [RC1] was released yesterday but there is no information in the change log that leads me to believe that would make a difference; if someone could confirm otherwise that would be awesome.
Thanks everyone!

Worked as expected!
Steps
1. Came across this ADB statement to flash radio 'fastboot flash radio radio-crespo-i9020xxki1.img'
2. Found GT-I9020T radio-crespo.i9020xxki1.img file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24217600
3. ADB: adb reboot bootloader
4. ADB: fastboot devices
5. ADB: fastboot flash radio D:\XYZ\radio-crespo-i9020xxki1.img
3G data service is back!

Signal constantly dropping in specific location

Hi,
So I have recently swapped carriers, from Vodafone to Aldi mobile and since this I have been experiencing constant drop outs whenever I am at home,("No service" as shown in CM10.1) every other location away from my home suburb seems to be fine. It definitely isn't a fault with network coverage as I have put the Aldi sim into another (unrooted) android phone and signal was fine with no dropouts. So it definitely is my device.
The dropouts are lasting anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours. And when the signal is working, it is not weak and it will only last for a short period after which it will drop to no bars and then to "No service"
I have tried the following(in this order):
Toggling Airplane mode & Rebooting
Updating/flashing firmware to 3.33
Flashing the original Sense ROM (Not RUU, restored from a backup) (This is now the current ROM on the device)
Toggling Airplane mode & Rebooting (again)
Changing the preferred network (ie. to GSM only)
None of these have seemed to help.
What else can I try to resolve this issue? I was thinking to flash a different baseband but not sure which one. If anyone can figure out whats actually going on that would also be great too. I've included some additional information about the device below.
Thanks in advance!

...I tried that, it made no change.
I flashed the latest radio from the thread you linked me as well, also updating the RIL. The things I flashed were:
Radio: 11.76C.3504.00P_11.29A.3504.18_M (From OTA 3.33.401.55)
And the matching RIL which was: HTC-RIL_4.0.0037HMQ
Still no success in solving the issue.Should I have tried an older radio? Or what else can I try?

I got the app, It showed that my RIL did not match the baseband (which is weird, as I followed what was on the other thread), anyways, it recommended I flash baseband: 11.76A which I did..I downloaded it from the thread you linked me..it was listed under: Italian OTA 3.33.401.6 h/t
..still no success :/
I think this radio is even worse..when I search for networks manually it says "error while searching for networks"..where as before with 11.76C it found vodafoneAU, Optus and sometimes Telstra (AldiMobile uses the telstra network) When telstra was available, attempting to connect would produce the following error: "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"

Yes I have tried that multiple times and it has not changed anything unfortunately.
However just after posing my last post about 'getrill' not working, I flashed an older radio with its respective RIL. And now everything seems to be working as it should be. I'm currently monitoring it to see if the signal drops, but so far it's looking good. I flashed the radio from the 3.32.1400.112 HTCCN OTA which is: 11.72.3504.00U_11.23.3504.08_M2
I then flashed the matched RIL: HTC-RIL 4.0.0024HMQ (getrill is also confirming that these are a match )
I will post back if things go bad again...but for now, thanks for all of your advice..it put me on the right track

It isn't perfect, as it doesn't get signal in some places of my house but it is a lot better now (as in no dropouts when it should be fine).I think the rest now must just be antenna strength problems and other interferences around the house because by doing a manual search for operators sometimes telstra is not found (before, when telstra was found for example in my room It would just not register on the network, but now it does) Places like my lounge struggle to show telstra as being found and that was an issue from before.
I'm happy for now, atleast it can last me until i get a new phone

No SMS/Limited signal after NE1 upgrade

So my phone is being the weirdest. Updated from an older nightly of CM11 up to a newer one (9/22 i think) which changed modem from what was MB1 to NE1. As a result, I got data very occasionally, but at least half, if not more, of the time I had "Emergency Calls Only" status.
I tried flashing the older radio, MB1, onto CM11. Still didn't work. I tried going back to CM11-SNAPSHOT-M7 from July. Still didn't work. I tried a full data/cache wipe and tried installing PA. Still didn't work. Tried PA with NE1. Didn't work.
I just ODIN'd back to 4.1.1 stock - surely bone stock will work, right? nope. Signal is okay, but right now i'm at half/half getting signal and being stuck on emergency only. Battery stats list cell standby on top, and my "time without signal stat" is at 43% right now. It was around 70% earlier. I tried flashing MB1 to stock 4.1.1 again, since it was on a older radio, didn't work.
I have no idea what is going on - something with the radio that would continue to persist after a full ODIN to stock - I have the modem/radio files but none seem to fully work (MB1/NE1/NL1), i'm constantly getting some signal sometimes but most of the time i'm on "emergency calls only" and SMS messages flat out don't work.
I am currently running:
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: I535VRBMB1
Build Number: JRO03L.I535VRBLK3
I am rooted, with custom recovery. What should I try next?

I've never had any issues with ML1 myself. Didn't I send the links for SOKP to you recently?
