Hi All,
Iv had a disaster with me 3 month old Galaxy Mini, I got the latest Android magazine which talked about installing custom ROM's so I downloaded ROM Manager which the recommended, and tried to perform a ROM Backup firstly it asked for my phone model which it didn't say anything about, anyway I accidently hit the wrong phone model, it then asked for a backup name which, I OK'd it, the phone should reboot into recovery mode and perform the backup, mine shutdown and now I cant turn it on. It was plugged in when I did all this, and I left it plugged in when it shutdown. I dont even get the charging icon when its off.
have I bricked my phone?
PLEASE HELP?
Oh boy, looks like you got a problem...
You'll get more help here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1311
In all probability, you will have to go to samsung service centre, and they will replace the processor...

A lot of reading is neede when trying to flash custom roms on any phone.
I think you better had done everything by yourself in recovery (step by step), so no mistake can be made that way.
Maybe you can get some help in Galaxy Mini section.
I guess you cant even power it in download mode?

I honestly don't think he was rooted, or had a custom recovery.
You must flash the tass.ops file via odin ( computer program ) and then download and install ( again via odin ) the stock or a custom rom.
WARNING: To successfully unbrick your galaxy mini, you must have the odin for samsung galaxy mini GT-S5570. Odin for other devices will probably destroy your device at all.
If you want links and more instructions, you can sent me a pm.
If I helped you, don't forget to press the Thanks button.

Thanks, so will samsung need to replace the processor as stated earlier, or can this be repaired by a decent phone repair shop?

Have you even read Sgmaster's post??
You need to flash a stock rom using ODIN, no need to take it to any service if it boots into download mode.

I don't know how is he going to flash tass.ops with odin, and then separately flash a stock rom...
Last I checked, you couldn't flash an odin partition script by itself, since that script is for odin's use on the phone and not for the phone itself...
Is it different for mini?
Typed using a small touchscreen
I think Sgmaster meant to load .ops file and then, flash the stock rom.
For SGS+ is ariesve.ops, I flashed with odin a few times...
Right this. First load the tass.ops file via odin and then flash a rom throught odin or clockworkmod recovery mode.
If I helped be sure to press THANKS button.

This is why articles shouldn't say, "IT'S SO EASY, ANYONE CAN DO IT!"
No, it's not. It's easy to f*ck up and brick your phone is what it is. Don't even bother joining XDA if you don't have the patience to read. Nowadays all we get are people who join after messing up their phones, begging us to perform some over-the-internet sorcery to fix it. We're not magicians. We're people. We don't exist to serve you. We have lives.
This isn't pointed directly at the OP.

Thats why no matter what, Im still on Stock Froyo.
I'm not saying don't root. It's not hard to root, but it is easy to brick your phone. By brick, I mean permanently. As long as you have recovery mode or download mode, you're good. But my point is read, read, read before you even download a ROM.
I did successfully root my fine no problems, and read about ROM's but, think I should have read more before attempting.
I`m guilty of getting misty eyed over the thought of something new and flashy not seen before.
I have been on here a while reading, not posting and i think i`ll check out here before attempting again.
anyway I wimped out and sent it back to Samsung to be repaired under its warranty, I know I could probably fix it with the help of you guys, but if I dont need to have the hassle.
But, if I was to recover myself I know you have said use odin I have downloaded it and had a look. Would I load the software then attempt to turn it on with the Home, down volume, and on buttons it should then boot into recovery mode. Is that correct?
Thanks All for your time

Ok so I just got me a New samsung showcase. It came with 2.2 installed build number sch-i500.ee25. Ok so i find out about rooting and all this so i start researching all about it. Here is where i am. I rooted with SuperOneClick. Worked fine. I installed ROM manager to get the clockworkmod but it did not work so I used Odin to install clockworkmod. That worked fine. So at this point I decided i need to backup the stock ROM. I try this using ROM manager but no go. it reboots into clockworkmod and gives me the sd card not mounted stuff. So I read and read and read but i can't seam to find a solution to this problem. I know there other people that have had this problem. I have read through the step by step guides and i really see nothing on this. Anyone have any type of solution.
Running on stock 2.2 rom manager doesnt work. You will need to go into cwm by turning off phone, holding power, vol up and down at same time. after samsung blinks 2nd time let go of buttons and you will boot into recovery.
Thank you. I thought I tried that before but I guess i did something wrong. Worked that time. Now if my memory is correct from reading that will not back up two things. The kernel and something else. How do I back up the kernel? Or am I just not thinking correctly cause I have not had enough sleep.

First, Welcome!
Second, Download and familiarize yourself with a program called Odin. This phone is hard to brick. From nearly every situation you can flash back to stock with Odin.
Third, Showcase files are not common. Send me a PM and ill give you my email address. I can better help over email.

What will scare newbies off is when they start flashing crazy **** for another phone in the Phone box in ODIN or something and can't fix it by just ODIN'ing like you guys are suggesting.

Same phone
I have the exact same phone as you. I just rooted my phone for the first time yesterday and I am having trouble installing CWM. Can you explain to me how you used Odin to flash CWM. And after you flash CWM, is it possible to revert back to stock recovery? If so how?
First of all I apologize if this has been brought up before in other posts. I am in a mixture of frustration and panic right now because I tried upgrading to ICS on my Rogers SGS2 LTE, and it failed.
Using Kies, I followed the prompts, and for whatever reason it didn't finish. Now when I boot up the phone, it keeps telling me to use the recovery mode option in Kies. However, if I do try to use recovery mode, it always times out and tells me I may need to contact a Samsung service center. The computer has no problem communicating with the phone, AFAIK.
Basically, I'm here to ask what options I have. Currently, i'm trying to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 , but because the stock TAR is taking a long time to download, I'm asking if I have any other options. I would like to keep the data on my phone, but if I have to wipe it to return it to normal I'm willing to do that.
Please help.
Reboot and try again

Are you rooted? Are you running the stock recovery that came on the phone? If your rooted and have apps that are froze or your running a modded recovery like cwm you must flash back to stock or kies will not ever work

I've tried rebooting the computer I was using, and I've also tried another computer with no luck. I got the latest Kies on the other computer, connected the phone with no problem, and tried recovery mode on THAT 2nd computer, but it didn't work because it didn't recognize my recovery code that the first computer gave me.

I *think* I was rooted. I remember doing something a long time ago involving odin. I never installed Cyanogenmod or any other 3rd party roms.
I had Superuser under my apps, if that helps.
I wish I could reply sooner but this board is making me wait 5 mins between posts. Sorry. It's like I'm in the emergency room with a gunshot wound and I'm waiting for the doctor to finish his smoke break, then his coffee break, then washroom break, jesus
by CWM, I think you're asking about Clockwordmod? If so, yes, I had that on my phone. Does this mean I can't use the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 to fix my phone now? Or can I still proceed.
If you have superuser then most likely you are rooted and since you have clockworkmod especially then kies is not gonna update your phone. Your on Rodgers so you need to find the stock firmware and flash it. I'm on att or I could link you to one that would work. I got my stock firmware from Samsung website. Try going to sammobile and see if you can find the stock firmware for your phone. I'm sure since its Samsung they should have Rodgers firmware to. Download the stock firmware and flash it in Odin onto to your phone and then kies should work. If you can't find the stock firmware at sammobile then look for the stock firmware here on xda I'm sure someone on Rodgers has it....
Edit. The link up there to Odin back to stock should work. Just download the file and follow the steps in order and don't leave one out. There are no shortcuts when it comes to flashing a phone or it could be rendered useless for anything more than a paperweight. Konane is real good and would not lead anyone wrong....

I just wanted to post a follow-up. I followed the steps from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 and it fixed me phone. Best of all, I didn't lose anything.
I would still like to get ICS on my phone. I noticed on Sammobile's site that there is a firmware for 4.04 that was released recently. Would I somehow be able to use that, combined with Odin, to get ICS on my phone? In other words, follow all the steps in the aforementioned thread, except, use this newer firmware file? Sorry I realize this may sound like a dumb noob question, but I want to make sure I do things right.
Thanks for all the help btw.

If you're back to stock and on Rogers, you should be able to update using Kies.
The thing is, when Odin fixed my phone, it didn't remove Superuser, so doesn't that mean my phone isn't stock anymore? I was expecting Odin to basically reset my phone back to factory settings, but it seems to have just reverted it back to before I tried updating to ICS with kies.

I haven't used the stock 3e that much always just flash cwm but I would suggest that you do a factory data reset to from the recovery if 3e gives that option I've never used it so I'm not sure. But if you are still on cwm recovery kies will not ever update your phone until you put everything back stock. You must have just flashed the kernel only. Flashing just the kernel does not wipe anything you need to flash the stock firmware from sammobile in Odin and that will do a full wipe and restore everything to stock

Turn the phone off. Hold both volume up and volume down and hold the power button do not release the volume buttons yet. Pressing all 3 buttons when you first see the screen come on mine shows an att logo then release the power button only. The phone will then boot into either 3e stock recovery or cwm recovery

OK, I did what you said, and I see 3e and the option to wipe data/factory reset. So you're recommending I do this BEFORE i try to use Odin and the latest firmware for Sammobile?
Just out of curiosity, if I didn't do a reset before flashing using Odin, what would happen?

As for the second one is it still relevant information if it's for the N7000?
The guy is saying avoid Samsung ROM's completely, what rom should i be using then?
Lastly do you know if it's safe to do a wipe/reset from within CWM ?

As long as you are using cm, I don't think it will be a problem. I will never go back to official. The problem stems from an issue with the stock recovery from Samsung. So in short, the devs are aware of the issue, but Samsung doesn't seem to care. As long as you are running the current cwm, and the dev isn't an idiot, you shouldn't have a problem. (No offense aorth and locerra, I know you're aware)

the thing is, if you go into recovery mode (hold power and volume up during boot) and then you see something like "recovery 3e" on the screen. THEN you have a problem.. it means you are on stock ICS with the stock Recovery and IF you do the "factory reset/wipe" in that recovery mode. your TAB is a goner..
then you get a linux system, get heimdall go to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785862
and follow all instructions untill you have a non-stock (no 3e) recovery on your tab.
then your tab (*as far as other people say) is safe. then you can wipe/flash/backup and do whatever you want with a relatively (lower) risk than before..

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to offer your advice.
I only have myself to blame for getting into this pickle! After Flashing so many different ROM's on loads of devices i just got a bit blaiz'e
Last night i did a wipe and factory reset through CWM and it all went well, so my question is, giving that i know i'm at risk, i can see three options, which is the "safest"
1/ Put tab away and don't use it until Samsung release a fix we can use
2/ Keep using the tab, but have that worrying niggle in the back of my mind
3/ Follow the post above and carry out the suggested procedure outlined above? (is it 1000% safe?
Can i assume that if i go as far as recovery mode via the ICS version to see the "recovery 3e" but don't wipe/factory reset i'm safe?
And consequently if i DON'T see that i would be safe to go ahead?
I do feel as if I'm sitting on a time-bomb here
(years ago i would have spent weeks messing around with this sort of thing, but as a middle aged housewife thats always on the go, i don't have the time, I just like to get my stuff working fast and bloatware free and i'm happy!)
Once again thanks for your input.
lol cant guarantee the 1000% safe part (since the offending code is in part coming from samsung) but people are aware of it / working to fix it and all non stock stuff is most probably safe. the CWM 6.0.1.0 definitely is, just used it myself.
and these things are kinda random (if all posts are to be believed) so i would just use the tab normally and worry about it much.. reports also say that samsung does repair these bricked tabs under warranty in case the unthinkable does happen.
and its not a time bomb ! (although there would probably be an app for that somewhere..)

Not very easy to get help around these forums since most ppl think you should already know. Im on ff18 and root per Qbkings vid, agat 0.2.1. Im timid on flashing now due to the brick. I have flshed about 10 roms when i was on el29 and never had any problems until i tried to flash an ICS rom.
So if im on ff18 root agat can I just use the format all and flash safely. And also how do you know when your going between roms that you are doing it safe? I want to try a few out?

Thank you in advance
Even though there is custom recoveries for ics. Many of us still use the tried and true method by using the el26 kernel.
Also format all does not play well with ics. Just wipe caches and do a factory wipe.

Cool so stay away from the caulk format all?
I flashed gingerbread roms over and over, after a bit my restores wouldn't work , then went for the milestone rom and bricked... I was supposed to use el26 according to vid and I think I tried to do it using clockwork instead of Odin(was I supposed to use Odin)? The only time I've used Odin was to root when I was on el29 and to root after i got ff18 ota. So do you use Odin each time and install the 26 kernel each time I want to install a new rom to be safe? ( if so then cool but I want to make sure I understand ) do I also have to are install cwm each time ( like meaning a safe version of it )
Right now the few rooms I'm seeing that I would like to try is cm9, the universe rom, and I hear about the " goodness rom"?
OK, so heres situation I'm on agat 2.1 and ff18 . Out of those three can I just download the rom and flash one or do I need to go to the 26 kernel and then do it EVERYTIME to be safe? I was sent a link for a safe kernel and said to " use and flash "? That just doesnt make complete sense to me yet?
Any and all is soooooo appreciated! I'm going to get this figured out so I can be comfortable and pros like some of you! I m really looking forward to it and if anybody wants to help a bit you can hit my email and I will not try to just waste ur time lol...

Thank you

Sorry it took so long to get back, it got kind of hectic at work.
Here is my formula of flashing.
Odin el26- make sure it is in the pda slot.
Go into recovery. From there I wipe dalvik, cache, factory 3 times apiece. You don't have to do it that much, it just gives me piece of mind.
Flash rom from zip. Reboot. Then I flash my modem through Odin- make sure the modem bin file is in the phone slot.
Hit run wait for it to reboot and enjoy.
Also don't worry about asking me any questions unlike most of the xda members I'm not a prick that will tell you search and read.
I can read a calculus book until I'm blue in the face. Doesn't mean I'm going to know how to do calculus after unless I'm given some guidance.
My current setup is -
Cm9- 6/21 build from Chris g
Kernel- ff11
Modem- el29

Odin v1.81 will not see phone in download mode
Hi,
my Epic4gTouch is currently on IMM761.FH13 and I want to go back to prerooted EL29.
I follow the instructions from this link by sfhub
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409634
I downloaded and loaded Odin3Excution v1.81
a) Put my phone into download mode with power and volume up.
1) The software never recognized my phone and I get no yellow com port. My window 7 PC does recognize my phone even in download mode.
2) If I do the same thing for my wife's phone which is still on GB then it sees the com port, but not on the phone with ICS installed already.
I tried to search and see if people have the same issue and did not find anything. For those who have already downgraded from ICS to EL29
can you please tell me which software you use and how you did it.
Thank you,
-Doan

Btw download mode is power and volume DOWN then once your there you press the up button you get into download mode before plugging in.
If odin doesnt recognize phone with yellow com ..try a different cable

Soft Bricked my phone yesterday by overlooking a most likely common mistake. I flashed CLM Recovery but accidently selected the wrong model UGHHH! Now I get the T Mobile Screen and I can get into download mode, thats it. I am aware of this Vibrant AIO ToolBox but Im not sure how it works and I am aware of ODIN which I have also never used. I downloaded ODIN and it does recognize my device. It looks pretty simple to use although I may be wrong. One of my major problems is I can not download any Stock OS Roms because the range at about 200mb and I am currently staying with a relative that has dial up. I dont know if I could get something faster through email. What I would like is step by step instructions on how to get my phone back to stock or somewhat functional. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we all know how hard it can be without your phone. Thanks, J

People with bricked phones shouldn't give advice. I am supposed to help you on teamview and was going to message you when I was done eating and now I see you giving outdated advice to someone
OK, the bandwidth thing is going to be a challenge. I don't have all the answers, but one question is "Do you have a 'nandroid' backup from before you flashed?"
If so, you might be able to get away with just flashing a kernel with the same kind of recovery that made the backup (I'm guessing ClockworkMod recovery?), get into recovery, and restore your backup. Kernels are a lot "lighter" than ROMs, 5-8 MB typically. Still a long haul on a modem, but better than 150-200 MB!
I personally use Heimdall, not ODIN. I find the "one-click" collection good for getting a phone back into a usable state.
From that collection, AntonX-Basic_with_a_twist-v1.1.0-NO_OC_UV is 18.7 MB, and that includes what you need to install, assuming you have Java (~16 MB, I believe) and the Microsoft C++ executables (4.8 MB) already. You'll want to make sure I suggested the right kernel for the backup you have.
Another question is do you have a "good" ROM or kernel on your microSD? You might be able to unzip it on your PC and find boot.img and then install it with stand-alone Heimdall (9.6 MB, with the same caveats about Java and C++ libraries).
There's always the local coffee house with "FREE Wifi!" if you have laptop with a WiFi card.

First download KC1 clean up HERE This will contain the pit, csc, pda and everyting you need to get you phone opperational.
To get into download .... remove the battery and usb cable. Then, WHILE holding vol + and vol- put the battery in and plug in the cable. Afterwards you should get a screen asking you if you want to enter download mode. Press vol + for yes and then you get a screen saying------> Downloading Do not turn off target
Finally upgrade to KC6(i think) which is 2.3.6 ---->Get it Here<----- It is stock....with all the tmobile bloatware
This should get your phone to work..... oh yea obvously you need odin
Root using super one click
Done!
If you want custom roms go here, it will tell you how to install a custom kernel WITH Clockwork Mod recovery installed, CREATE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST. Then download any rom you want here and put it on your sd card...Finally install it using CMR
If anything goes wrong use the nandroid you created
STOP you only have four posts and have stated you flashed all kinds of wrong stuff on your phone...you also are telling him the hardest longest way to get fixed. No need to flash all that.
