Battery life is improved with custom ROM - Samsung Infuse 4G

Just an FYI. Since I put the Emancipation ROM on my Infuse, my battery life has almost doubled. The ROM is very stable as well. Fantastic work by the Dev(s) to create such an excellent ROM!

Curious what numbers are you getting with the emancipation ROM?
I'm averaging 12 hours, lowest brightness, wifi on all time, screen on 2 hours 30 minutes, music player 50 minutes.
Is this good?

I'm getting about 18 - 20 hours per charge (auto-brightness, wifi etc.). The phone isn't used very much though (which is partly why my battery life is so long). Sounds like you use yours more than mine. However, when I was running the "stock" ROM and using the phone the same way, I was only getting around 12 hours per charge. It may have to do with the extra (bloatware) that was on the stock ROM (which would cause the battery to drain faster even when idle). The Emancipation ROM has obviously cleaned up the bloatware and battery life is much better.

12 hours on battery?

Hey all,
I'm averaging about twelve to thirteen hours on battery. Is that normal?
I only let Gmail sync and I go stretches without even using the phone. Never watch videos or anything intense.

I can make 18-24 hours with the usage above,i.e, minimal.

Battery life was ~12 hr. for me on stock ROM with no special attention paid to what's syncing. Since then I've gone to a custom ROM and kernel that allow under-volting the phone to extend battery life. I haven't measured yet but I'd guess I'm in the 16-20 hr. range now.
I'm running 2.3.4 on a custom ROM. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

well if you're on a custom rom, then things vary. me myself i get awful drainnage on some and excellent on others. one thing you could do is that you could try using netharcy's kernels or the UV trinity one. be sure to re-calibrate your battery and wipe battery in recovery.
(you dont have to recalibrate battery everytime u flash a rom but i just recommended it so that you can monitor your battery usage more effectively).
I'm easily achieving 24-30 hours with my Nexus S with 9 hours on display, 4 hours of music-listening, 2 hour of voice calls, 4 hour wi-fi browsing.
Running 2.3.4, Netarchy 1.3.1 CFS, zipaligned deodexed custom ROM. 3G is off though, because in my country (and my carrier) 3G doesn't work on the 900mhz band the Nexus S uses.
What is this Netarchy you speak of? My ROM is deodexed and zipaligned.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Netarchy is a kernel for the phone.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936219
Netarchy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936219 is a replacement for the stock kernel, and it allows under-volting. The idea is to run the phone CPU at a lower voltage, thereby extending battery life. Under-volting has to be included in the kernel when it's compiled, i.e. you can't do it with just any kernel. Trinity UV is another kernel that does UV.
The easiest way to configure the degree of under-volting using Netarchy is Jonathon Grigg's new Proton app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091382
Okay, I flashed the (stable) Netarchy kernel for my phone and it seems twice as "snappy" but haven't been able to test the battery life yet. I cleared the battery stats in Recovery and am charging it right now. We'll see!...

Remember, after the first clearance of the battery stats, the data needs to be re-populated, so you won't have good battery life until after a few charge cycles. Let your battery drain dead, charge it to 100% without interrupting it, then repeat this process somewhere the next few days.
Report back after at least 4 full charge cycles (from 0-100%, not necessarily until your battery is depleted, you can charge at say 70% to 100% and that counts as 30% Each 100% is a complete charge cycle)
hey guys, my phone is in stock, rooted, and I also getting 12-13 hours under medium/heavy use, I want to try this kernel, so what I have to do is download the zip (already did) file and apply it on the recovery menu right?
and what happens when I want to the original kernel?
ps: sorry 4 the noobness... lolz
Using Netarchy and undervolting 25mw my phone can standby 24ish hours on one charge. I can go 12 hours of heavy usage (4 hours screen time etc).

well that's pretty much what I did yesterday without the netarchy mod. I disconnected my cellphone at 12md, I listened like 4 hours of music, and also checked my email, twitter and facebook, many times, (I was in class so I was super-bored) all in wifi. and with my 3g activated. I think I'm going to disable the 3g when I'm on wifi. I think is kinda logical.

That's INSANE! :O
Mine never achieved half as good as that! my 18 hours include only 2 or 2 1/2 hours of display-on time and usually around half an hour of music!
Are you doing an overboard UV to achieve that?
Once again this is confusing because we have both S and 4g phones here, and they use different technologies and have differing battery lives.
I do hope they have separate forums for these soon...
Anyway, my Sprint 4G got 10 hours tops, usually more like 8 with average usage. (calls, gmail sync, internet, etc. throughout the day.)
Going on 18 hours today on my S4G with moderate use. Calls, texts, browsing, music. My battery is reporting 18% left right now. Was also without service for nearly an hour (inside a building) and we all know what that does to your battery.

[Q] Terrible battery life

Alright so my skyrocket is rooted with the faux kernel and sky ics 7.4 speed rom. My battery lasts me roughly until 6pm everyday when taken off the charger at 6am for school (obviously aren't using it during school) so that to me, is crap battery life for such a large battery capacity especially only using HSPA+ no LTE. cpu set at 1.5ghz uv -75mv, ondemand governer, screen off to 384mhz. Noticed Android System uses nearly as much battery as display, at minimum brightness.
Can anyone help me reduce this or give me any tips for better battery life?
in the pics below, i left my phone idle overnight after a 100% charge before going to bed at around 12am. woke up with the phone at 98%.
under moderate useage it will die 10%/45 minutes.

I bought a external charging kit + spare battery package that samsung sells for around $40. An external charger (equivalent to charging your phone on AC while the power is turned off) is the best charging you can give your battery. The worst type of charging is charging your battery while the phone is on connected to a computer through USB.
Of course, who wants to charge with the phone turned off? That's why you should get this package. I never worry about charging my phone. When I'm running low, I just do a quick battery swap. A seriously annoying issue with this phone becomes a non-issue.
I also make sure I try to do a deep cycle charge. I always let it drain to around 5-15% before I swap batteries.

I think I read somewhere that faux's kernels don't support Wifi tethering. Is this still true? Do other custom kernels have this problem?
I flashed the Paradox rom on the T989 forums with Faux's Skyrocket kernel and I didn't download System Tuner with this ROM (Just kept it the way it was) and it has zero lag and from 6 am to 2am the next night, I only went down to 32% so battery life is the most amazing I've had ever
I had a similar problem on my old captivate. I found a rogue app that was using a ton of battery. Like 74% of my battery. Bat stats said it was Android OS using it. Delete some of the recent apps you may have installed b4 you noticed the bad battery life. I am on SkyICS 7.4 my battery life is pretty good. The rogue app that I found was a game Pirates from Disney.

12 hours isn't too bad for a Skyrocket.
On my phone, I'm rooted, running SkyIce ROM with Faux Kernel. My usage is as follows:
Display-64%
Android System-6%
Android OS-5%
Cell Standby-2%
I average around 10 hours of heavy (constant) use, and about 16 hours with normal use. I'm quite satisfied with the Skyrockets battery life. I've only had the phone for 10 days, so the battery is still settling in. It's much better than the battery life on the SGS II, which got around 8-11 hours.

Batteries tend to do so, especially if you are constantly playing music or videos and even games without having them connected to a power source. The constant draining of a battery can do a number on them.
Oooooor if you are on the newest rage 3.6 rom, it eats battery like a mofo.
-he max voltage was 4.2 nows its 4.058
So 3.6 rage makes it last longer?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
On R.a.g.e. 3.6, my battery last 4.5-5 hours under heavy usage. I use setcpu to edit max to 1.0ghz and min. to 612mhz on demand. It makes me get up to 8hrs. Max of heavy use.
Download time ^__^

mine lasts me all day :/ idk whats up with yall and 4 hour battery life? thats insane!! I've been at work and had my battery at like 80% and started streaming radio on it for about 4 hours and ended up having like 30% after that 4 hours... I'm on Reactive's ROM. I wouldn't be able to have a phone that lasts only 4 hours because i'm constantly on the move and have no time to charge it.
The only time i've had such short battery life is when my battery had fried and i needed a new one. But this was on my Nokia 5530. I've had the sidekick since it first came out btw and no issues. Try recalibrating the battery though... maybe that'll help

Ymmv, just installed back to basics, lasted all day with it heavy usage too. I mean youtube, music, twitter, texting and a few calls. I can definitely say it is not my battery.
I'm with eurohomie... I just installed RAGE3.6 yesterday. Battery was at 22% when flashed. After configuring everything, battery was down to 1% when I plugged it in. Then I charged it overnight. I did not clear battery stats or anything.
It has been unplugged for 14h41m18s now, and currently still has 71% left!!! I didn't use it that much today, but WiFi has been on the whole time, used about an hour talk-time, and used about 2 more hours reading internet news. It says WiFi used 30%, Display used 33%, Standby 18%, Voice Calls 10%, Idle 9%.
This is exceptional, however, with any ROM I always get about 20-hours of heavy use or 35-hours light use. Even with GPS navigating or playing 720p movies, it lasts over 4 hours strait.

I can't answer for him, but it is for me. In the first 30% of the battery dies really fast. The rest goes a bit slower.I'd drop from 100 to 80% battery from just watching a few videos online on netflix, under 45 minutes. After that my phone runs sluggish around 60% as if it was limiting how much cpu power it is using. I can compare the performance to my old g1 when its running at 60% battery. Constant use on that rom will only get me 8hrs total, 10hrs at the most on standby.
Just flashed back to basics to act as a control, battery drain is less than rage.

I can definately understand what you are saying. I can relate to that also. With my sidekick it is usally around 50-60% that I start getting the most force close errors, and freezing, and if im listening to music, and start browsing the web, I can most certainly know that if I go to a heavy website then it will freeze the UI and music will keep playing. But, if I pull out my beats cord, then give it a minute (sometimes I just have to hold down pwr) the launcher will reboot (like an iPhone respring), and will still be slow so I still end up having to reboot. I can most definately say that the Sidekick 4G is a BAD phone.

Yea, when it's that constant use that's what always kills it. And for you other post battery temp is a major factor in this, I can honestly say if your battery is more than 100 degrees its gonna wayy faster, and if its more than 100 degrees a day... it's time for a new batt, slim. I KNOW that will fix this problem COMPLETLY.

Verizon battery life

Want to get an idea of battery life with Verizon LTE on the S3. When voting in the poll please include the following of what type of user you are 1) heavy user 2) moderate user 3) barely use the phone aka mostly on standby.
I'm interested in the screen time on, not standby, and only those with LTE access.
heavy user days I get twelve hours
moderate days 15
not at all 2 days.
Heavy user I get 12 hours with 3-5 hours talk time and heavy Internet usage about 2 hours, 14-16 if I cut my talk time and Internet usage down 30% . my rezound with extended battery would last longer larger battery obviously, I think the s3 would have even better battery life if the antennas were better they are very poor compared to my rezound which makes a difference in battery life. But all in all there is noticeable difference in battery advancement with s3 I hope all phones will have battery life like s3 and better

If the screen is on because you are using the LTE, you are going to sap the battery much more quickly. I love the LTE, but it is not battery friendly. If you aren't using a lot of network, then you are correct. Most peoples on screen time is because they are using their network though.
Heavy use -about 1 day with 8-9 hours on screen time
Medium use- 2 days minimum
Light use- don't ever use lightly

I was just wondering why there are so many complaints about the battery life on the s3...right now I'm on aosp pure Google and with 18 hours on the battery for the day I'm at 87%...This is pretty average with most of the aosp Roms I have used...I turn of WiFi and 4g unless I'm using them and I have a few battery tweaks in my init.d and build.prop that are on just about every site that is android related and are pretty easy to apply... If .7 % per hour is really something to complain about then get a junky flip phone...you should be able to get like 3 days out of that...battery drain is going to happen when you basically have a handheld laptop with the power and capabilities the s3 has...Just sayin

A lot of people here are considered in the 'heavy usage' category, which the stock battery drains quickly. For me, I could drain the battery in 5-6 hours easily. And fyi the time the phone is on matters very little, it's all about screen on time. With my extended battery I get 8-10 hours of SCREEN ON which is the most important aspect, glad the stock battery works okay for your usage, everyone is different.

Geeez...what are you doing to kill an extended battery like that? I get that much while playing games and using my browser...i am also over clocked at 2106mhz...i wonder if there a lot of these going out with bad batteries...i see more complaints from people getting drain with screen off than on

Unfortunately I believe you're confusing uptime with the amount of time the screen is on, I can guarantee you do not get 8-10 hours of the screen being on in a single charge with the stock battery, even at the lowest brightness setting. Post screen shots of those two screens when you get that much, I'd love to see it! That was only my 3rd cycle with the 4400 mAh battery, it's even better now, I just haven't taken any new screen shots.
Oh, and my brightness was at 50-75% that day.

I get amazing battery life, anywhere from 2-4 days, depending on the on-screen time. which is around 2-5 hours.
stock battery, CleanROM 5.5.1

Same here! On CM10.1 I average 2-4 days, with normal usage. Very happy here!
