Hello
I have a stock att i727. I was using kies to upgrade to ICS and during the update my child caused the usb cable to unplug, needless to say it errored. Now my phone says error use kies recovery. when i attempt to use kies it says the device needs emergency recovery so i clicked on that and it acts like its going to work and then i get another error saying no device connected. so i downloaded odin and a rom for the phone. I cant get that work either it just fails.
Can anyone please help me.

you could have this problem , its a long read.
since odin, (make sure ur using the one below) can see the phone, try flashing touch cwm use either one of these
ODIN 1.85
Clockworkmod Touch 5.8.1.3 hit thanks for tpmullan, read OP
ClockworkMod TOUCH 5.5.0.4 v4.3 hit thanks for sk8erwitskil, read OP.
you can then try flashing a rom if u have one on ur sdcards, oh ur were on stock so dont think u have a rom yet. when/if u get cwm installed ill tell u how to put a rom in ur sdcard
or...try for a warranty replacement, just say kies mucked up your phone while updating, but dont flash cwm if u r going that route

I tried ODIN recovery to get back to stock, by my PC doesnt recognize my device (because ODIN requires device to be in download mod). So how can I fix this? Please help me.

First... what where you doing to get it on blue cmw in the first place?
Also im not saying you are doing it wrong... and im SURE you have tried like 1000 times but lets check:
1.-pull battery out
2.-connect cable to PC and to phone
3.- while connected to PC and battery OUT press BOTH volume keys at same time
4.-while pressing both volume keys and conected to pc trough micro usb introduce the battery
Thats how you go into DL mode... if it DOESNT.... damn... you messed up your bootloader? at the VERY least you should get a:
"Phone-----!-----Computer"
sign....
Not working still? hmm get an usb jig on ebay/amazing or anyplace you like to FORCE the DL mode... still try the steps i provided before... when entering DL mode only 2 buttons nedded not 3 like on CMW recovery read the steps... then try... try.... and try.
If nothing yet:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...Accessories&hash=item3cbb7b1e8c#ht_2419wt_905
or something similar... yet im 99% sure doing the correct steps should work.
And i repeat... im not saying your doing it wrong... electronic devices may fail anytime still... put the human part to work and read well the instructions and do them as said before we can blame a piece of metal/plastic xD
I really hope you can get it fixed.
Thanks for the detail steps koriotto.. I exchanged at ATT.

Here's a nice How-To for Updating:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
Download a rooted Kernel for your ROM version and flash it as PDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056
If you strictly follow given instructions rooting your phone is quite safe. But you should know that you guarantee will be void.

anyone can brick their phone if they do something horribly wrong, like flashing an i9000 rom on their i9003
congratulations on making the big leap into customization!

most likely, but I don't use kies for anything, not even backing up files. I do that simply by making a copy of whatever I want to save and putting it on my computer via the sd card.
Don't use KIES! A simple file backup to your computer and a backup created with titanium backup on your sd card that can be simply saved on your computer are by far enough to save your files, apps, app data like settings as well as system settings.
If you what you go a step further you can create a nandroid backup, or image, however this is called. Imagine this as a system image that can be restored in case of boot loop, etc.
My Phone Explorer is also a very good piece of software. Can replace the contact editing functions of KIES. It is also able to make you phone calling contacts, writing SMS on your computer with your phone. It can edit your calendar, create notes, browse, run and install apps, browse all files on your phone that are acessable without root.
Guys i don't use kies to backup! I mainly use it for connecting and transferring data like apk's!
Guys any help? I followed all instructions but it did not root! Instead now wen i power it on it shows me a phone and computer with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark between it! Is my phone bricked? I can't boot into download mode as well as recovery mode! Pls help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pull out battery and restart phone again normally. If it start then try to go to recovery or download mode.

Charge ur phone before doing this
1. Download ur stock rom from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004647
2. Try booting into download mode either by normal method or another one which i did
Take out battery, sim card and memory card
While pressing power, home and vol. down key insert the battery try until download mode is reached!

Even if your phone is shown the "Phone---!---PC" screen .. ODIN should still recognize it being attached to your computer .. My first SGS2 Skyrocket did this in which I was able to reflash back to stock using ODIN v1.85 .. however, my first SGS2 took a real crapper for some reason .. that even the USB JIG was unable to get the phone into Download Mode.
I now have a replacement in which I'm being REAL careful with .. LOL

Morning y'all... having a similar problem... I was rooted but for some reason when in Recovery I'd only get Android Recovery??? I got CWM installed using ODIN (This is the tread I used... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526) . Then I went and tried to install miuiscotland_I9100-2.1.13... said install was complete... went to reboot from CWN... and nothing.
I tried pulling battery, going into recovery, download mode, the jig... and nothing... doesn't even look like it's charging... no spark at all?
So I have no phone as it stands right now.
Any comments, suggestions, hints, tips, tricks?
Thx.

You are hard bricked. You flashed a i9100 rom over a i727 device.
Only advice I can give is drop it in the toilet if you have insurance on the phone and get a replacement, or call your carrier's warranty department and tell them your phone just stopped working (not particularly ethical and you could get caught if they figure out it was rooted, but worth a shot...).
Oh, and the other advice is NEVER flash roms meant for devices other than the Skyrocket. Roms meant for the original S2 will brick your phone.

No need for a jig here (though it is good to have one anyways). If you get the "firmware upgrade failed" screen, just plug the phone in and if Odin sees your phone you can flash the stock tar. The "failed" screen won't look like it's doing anything but after Odin finishes you will be back to stock and life will be good again.
Galaxy Skyrocket phone was running custom rom
decided to return to samsung official rom. Connected the phone to odin was in process of bringing to factory rom thats when BY mistake i disconnected the cable from phone. I tried the process again would not work stuck at "firmware upgrade encountered ad issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. Message reads

Yeah it will say error select recovery mode in keys.

no. on the top screen says odin mode. product name:sgh-i727
custom binary download: yes (2 counts)
current binary:custom
and the rest message says, Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again
On the screen does not say downloading mode just the error message. will try the the odin and refresh tar.

It'll happen again and again if you flash often. It may not say download mode BUT IT IS. Simply unplug your phone. Open Odin. Flash. Wait. It will work I promise. If u were fully bricked you would have no screen.

You seem panicked man. CALM DOWN. Why are you trying to downgrade bootloader?
As I understand you need to unbrick your phone by entering APX and not reset the counter using USB Jig.

Firstly tell me these things in a clear & concise manner:
- ROM & kernel that were in use before you were flashing the stock ROM?
- Did you enable/disable (tick/untick) anything in Odin by mistake other than that was in the guide ?
- Does your windows show APX driver required when connected to the PC?
- Does you handset go into the download mode after trying to unbrick it using the method mj.vikram gave you ?
