What's an equalizer that will apply to everything that plays music?
Like the beats preset does from stock. I know there are some music players on the market that have eq's built in, but don't they just apply to the music that is being played through that particular app while it's running.
I want an eq that will apply to the core settings that will apply to like pandora when it's streaming.
Any suggestions? And am I even making sense?

Only ones I know are Beats for Sense or DSP Manager for AOSP based ROMS.
Maybe Sony xLoud?
Sent from my HTC One X
you are making sense. I'm in true same boat as you. Beats and sony xloud are really just custom equalized settings; that are un-adjustable by the end user.
Prior to my hox, i had the galaxy s, s2, note and nexus. All rooted and all with dsp manager installed. I'm very particular about my eq and max volume settings.
The issue is that dsp manager currently does not work on the hox; neither do apps like volume+. Its unfortunate because the headphone volume on this device is poor at best.
I'm not sure if its working on a stock ics rom, like aokp, but i doubt it. I think it's a kernel related issue and there currently is no source code released yet.

"equalizer" via app store

I've been a big fan and user of the paid version of Equalizer for over a year but I just installed DSP Manager and I must say it improves sound quality and bass more than Equalizer ever did. This version works on the HOX (stock & aosp). Listening to Slacker Radio sounds just as good as my iPod now.

So when you make your sound settings on dsp, then it applies to anything that comes out as sound?
Just want to make sure, I've seen people suggest music players in the past with a built on eq, the problem with those is that it only equalizes the sound playing through that player and not things like pandora or anything that streams. I like beats because it pops up and shows you its active, I want something like that but that's customizable / adjustable.

the only apps DSP wouldn't apply to are those that have their own built in EQ.

I was wondering if anybody found an Equalizer for android by now.
Would love to fine tune the sound of the song on my phone!
Yes interested in this too, love to be able to adjust the stereo balance, seem to be going slightly deaf in one ear.
The only thing I'm aware of is meltus' audio hack. It replaces the equalizer with one for higher volume, but he's released a few and suggests which work best for certain genres. I know it's not quite what you're looking for but you might find it useful. This does require a rooted phone.
I have seen two or three eq in the app store, but I am not sure if its available in your local.
A bit late, but I know this has been bugging me, so incase anyone else comes here looking, Astro Player does have equalizer (don't forget to check 'use equalizer' at the top before using the sliders). app is free with ads, $3 without them.
My Milestone has an builtin app to set the equaliser type like Bass Extreme, Bass Punch, etc. the bass is actually greatly enhanced!

Tell us more about this app. What is it's name for example?
I'm reviving this thread in the hopes that someone knows of an app that will allow me to balance the left and right channels on all stereo sound coming from the headphone jack. Failing that, any music/video player that has a balance control would be great.
Anyone know of one?
Thanks!

Bought the pay version but couldn't find the left /right balance control. Is it In the EQ area?
CyanogenMod 6 has a built in app called "DSP Manager" that lets you set EQ and dynamics (compression) for 3 profiles: headset, phone speaker and bluetooth.
I haven't really tested it but it looks pretty impressive. I'm not sure if it's available outside of CM6 or not.
Not sure if this helps being new to this. I tried audioplayerwitheq platinum on the HTC Desire which gives eq plus seperate left and right volume ajustment. Not the friendliest player though. Anyone know of a better one? Hope this helps you dc41
i hope someone port AudioBooster (WM) for Android

i do see more and more players with build in eq. but i am now using the one from fede, which does not (yet?) have one.
i did find one eq, but it was for 2.3 only..

I know there is a DSP manager app, but that is not sounding that great. The reason I say this is that recently I gave up Droid X. The X had presets built into the music player for bass, 3D and stuff which made the same songs sound a lot better on the X than Droid 1.
I have tried some settings on Droid 1 in DSP Manager but they are nowhere near the quality of the X.
So does anybody have any other suggestions ?
Audio Quality..
I thought the same thing about the music sounding a bit flat. I installed the Power Amp player and am much happier now. It has a lot more customization controls, so you can add more bass if you want.
MixZing has an equalizer as well.
Try PowerAmp app From Market

+1 to PowerAMP its amazing and has tons of presets and you can also make your own.
3rd on PowerAmp..nothing else like it Even plays music ripped from streaming well.
HTC's new senseUI (in Desire Z and HD) has a DSP Manager app that has an equalizer as well. 3 different settings for Headphones, BT and speaker.
Maybe that could be ported for other phones as well?
And no, it doesn't improve quality, a better set of headphones will do that.

PowerAMP is really amazing but I use volume+ now because it affects the every audio app (nice for streaming apps).
Just note that on any eq, you may notice some distortion in the sound. This is especially true if using bass boost and applies to any form of eq.

This might be not too related to the topic, but..
I rarely ever use equalizers for the sole reason that the songs are already mixed how the artists intended the songs to sound. I used to abuse EQ like hell when I was younger and maxed bass and treble on everything I listened to. When I turned it off I suddenly noticed small quirks and new guitars in the background, just details that I couldn't hear before because the bass overpowered everything.
Just something to think about.
Hello to all, I was just wonder what sound enhancer people are using these days? I come from an Android device with DSPManager on it which would give extremely rich bass. Beats audio, although enhances my sound somewhat, is no comparison. I tried installing other EQ apps but they have no effect on my device. I think maybe the Beats engine is conflicting with other EQ plugins.
If anyone could share what they use or how they got it to work I would much appreciate it I'm thinking about rooting my device and uninstalling Beats with Titanium just to test it out. Thanks guys!
I'm pretty sure I saw another thread about this. As you may already know, Beats is just a bass heavy EQ setting.
I don't know why certain DSP programs don't seem to have any effect on this phone. The only consensus I've seen if that apps like PowerAmp work the best for actually tweaking the EQ.
IDK why lots of people diss on Beats Audio on their phone. I've tried most of these eq apps and Beats gives me the best sounding music through my ear buds than any other. JMHO

I've been using Poweramp for a couple years and I love it. The options and the equalizer are outstanding. I was just comparing it with Beats and there is no comparison in my opinion. I am not sure what Beats does. A t-mobile sales guy told me it decompresses the sound file. Whatever it is I am not impressed and it seems like marketing hype to me. I would prefer to remove it. I just signed with t-mobile and I am checking out the service and the phone so I am not ready to root or flash. I have not even seen a way to disable beats.
It's easy to disable. Plug in a headset, go to Sound and there you have an option for Beats. On German One S it's name is: Klangverbesserung. I don't know the english name.

Thanks. I should have thought to plug a headset in and then look for settings. Eviently disabling it in the notification bar did the same thing although at the time the notification option was persistent. It is gone now.
BEATS
beats is the most powerful tool to optimize the music.. works with my gaming Headset and Bose in Ear.. Top Sound..
I just traded a watch for some beats headphones (studios) and realized the integrated beats thingy has no affect one beats headphones. If you shut it off the headphones automatically adjust back to "beats" performance. Idk what this concludes but thought I would share.

From my experience, Beats boosts both treble and bass, thus making it sound richer. It is disabled by going to Settings>Sound>Sound Enhancer. Just click 'no enhancements'. Headphone must be plugged in to do so. I leave it enabled in combination with PowerAmp for pretty good quality. Still not as good without DSPManager :'(
Started to use Poweramp before DSP was invented The EQ is doing a good job and for the most time i like the sound of it. In the first days of DSP I uninstalled it because it drained to much battery.
Beats is also nice, but i don't like that it turns on for every sound the phone does.
So i am finaly back to deinstalled DSP & Beats and using Poweramp only =)

Beats is nothing more than a software equalizer. For the same effect (plus a lot more customization), try Volume+ from the Play Store. It even has a "Beats" mode.
There's also Equalizer by smart android, I've got it on my phone & the difference is awesome!

I'm wondering this as well. I've been using Mort Player for music (unless someone can recommend something else for audiobooks/podcasts), but the EQ settings between Mort and other external EQs don't seem to make a big difference (and it should, based on my headphones)

But, you don't have to do all this to get the Codec's/Drivers and the improved sound quality.
Just download the "Beats Audio Installer" from the Google play store (Free), run it, reboot the phone and use your favorite media player.

I don't ever listen through headphones, but listening via bluetooth with my car stereo, it does sound much better. The most reliable way I know of to install is through the Aroma KoaK zip installer v.847 which can be found in boobah's thread here.
Cause I'm currently on cm7 gingerbread and the dsp when playing dubstep on my sexy pair of 40 dollar headsets make my ears bleed perfect clean bass and cm9 and over doesn't have that crystal clear bass and wont play on most apps (ex. Pandora YouTube other music players.) Hopefully there's a fix

1) Delete DSP.
2) Install Volume+ by Meltus (works on GB, ICS, and JB).
also try the awesome beats flashable. you can find it in weekends mirror thread. it is a modified dsp manager for ics
I've tried beats audio plugin, volume+ and DSP manager on CM9 and none of them came close to the DSP in CM7. I know it takes a lot of time to equalize but if you have your mp3 tracks at 320kbits and get the audio equalization right, it sounds perfect with a good pair of headphones/earphones.
I don't know why they crippled it so much in CM9.

I have tried Volume+ with Beats Audio drivers as per the recommendation of some other users here and it made NO difference to my music. Sounds exactly the same as stock, or the difference is so subtle I can't notice.
Don't know why everyone knocks the DSP manager so much. It worked marvelously for me and made some really bad phones sound usable. My Klipsch Image S4s used to sound amazing with DSP
Even without enhancements of any kind, music will skip/click when the phone is in use. That does not change no matter what player you use.
In school at the moment, so I don't have enough time to care, or wipe and reflash again for the 5th time.... Perilously waiting for the update to end all updates
I've never applied the Beats drivers.

in my experience, dspmanager was pretty bad on cm 9.1.0 (i mostly used the bass boost function) and on all three slight moderate modes it would sound terrible. i'm on wildchild ice (latest nightly) and dsp manager, atleast bassboost, is significantly better. before i used to just get a lot of noise, now atleast its cleaner.
well i tested volume+ other equalizer and none comes close to the dsp on cm7 i guess ill stick to poweramp its just others its not clear its distored or hurts the ears dsp on cm7 is just PERFECT i was wondering if i grab the cm7 dsp app backing it up using titanium backup and restore it on ICS?
