Sorry SG3: One-S and One-X are #1 Androids... - HTC One S

Just thought this article was a reminder that the one S and one X probably don't have to worry about obsolescence for a little while yet.
In this article the 1X and 1S tied for First place, the SG3 at #2 (where it belongs), and the Evo at #3.

It's a smaller One X. It actually beats the One X in bench marking due to it's lower resolution, but yeah, it's pretty much the same phone--if we're talking the american versions--just smaller.

The One S definitely is an underrated phone. Even HTC themselves don't really pay much attention to it.

yeah all the advertisements htc make are about the HTC One X...
for me, the htc evo LTE 4G is the "hidden king" of all smartphones, its the same as the htc one x, plus it has SD card slot, has a kid stand or something like that XD, and has the s4 Snapdragon which beat the tegra 3
hope htc release a GSM version of it soon, i already bought a htc one S because i like the 4.3" phones and because is so thin

Not true, I saw a lot of comercials for the one S like the one when they were falling from the sky and taking those pics they did them for the one X and the one S. Also Tmo still plays them a lot too.

OP you are FUNNY!

The HOX and HOS are perfect phones, if you're lucky enough to get a defect-free one. HTC really has shot their reputation w the quality management of this year phones.

I've never seen a One S advert. It's all One X. I understand they're obviously going to push their flagship phone, but the One S has just been neglected and is on par with the One X in terms of performance, just a small size. HTC big up photos being taken specifically off of the One X, when the One S has the exact same camera capabilities.
What annoyed me the most is the release of the Desire C. First the Desire is now the bottom of the barrel budget phones, when the original Desire was the flagship line, and it's the last budget phone HTC are doing, yet it has NFC capabilities, which the One S could have easily had, and should have.
As said above, HTC aren't what they used to be, and seem to be leaning towards Apple's business practices.

There's no way I would agree to this...
My One S can't have a stable USB tethering connection, so much that I went back to using my iPhone 4 as main phone. Before I root it and install more recent ROM (like the 1.84), I had numerous data issues: No data, No data despite having the icon on screen, Stuck on Edge, all required a reboot to fix. The phone have poor network reception barely better than my iPhone 4 "hold in the wrong way". I still can't use Skype. In less than one month I dented the case after a fall of 1 foot high on ceramic and scratched the screen in normal use (first time I scratch a screen without an accident). I won't comment on multitasking performance...

I love the phone but very disappointed we do not have NFC

Reasons I got rid of the HTC one s every call had static all three phones multitasking non existent data was highly annoying hit or miss if not for the static I would have kept it but HTC that was your last chance done gettin ripped
I'll be honest tho I'm really starting to consider iOS all my phones are android but I'm starting to get disappointed with lag doing simple crap like scrolling hopefully 4.1 will help alot in this regard

I got something for you OP, since you decided to make this thread to make yourself feel better. My Galaxy S III bests your One X in almost every way. The only thing I would give the One X is looks. All that slideshow you linked to says is the One X is "the greatest camera phone ever", which I would have to disagree with (objectionable). It also says, "The One X might have snagged top honors, but it edged out the Galaxy S III by a fragment. Laced with powerful hardware and dope next-gen features, Samsung’s mobile powerhouse embodies its “Next Big Thing” tag line.":

And benchmarks? Benchmarks don't prove anything. I also find it funny that Nvidia pays developers to tone down the graphics on non-Tegra 3 phones so their chipset looks better. Good thing my Galaxy S III runs Tegra 3 games better than Tegra 3 phones like the One X:

Nexus Prime Hands-on Video Released - It's Curved

The SAMSUNG MOBILE UNPACKED 2011 event will be held on October 18th in HongKong.
The device has a curved display similar to the Nexus S. Download the SAMSUNG MOBILE UNPACKED Application for more details
You see, several sources are now confirming Nexus Prime will most likely run a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 CPU along with 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display.
It is likely to have 4.6-inch screen with 320 ppi which looks beastly enough against iPhone 4S’ 3.5-inch 960 x 640 326-ppi retina display.
Have a look at the recent shots of the Nexus Prime

I would be surprised if Samsung didn't put their Exynos in it.
But either way that design is quite revolutionary for a cell phone. It looks so sick. And knowing it's from Samsung, the quality will br top notch.

lol that alone make some of us pro SmartPhone users laugh. As SamSUX and top notch quality should not even be put in same line much less paragraph. It will be just another typical Nexus based POS that is like always behind the curve as always. Just watch when it comes out it will already be outdated like iPhoney.

Im with you.. I used to jump from HTC to another
HTC Pro -> HTC Hero - > HTC Google N1
and I wanted another HTC but at least in my 3G band frequency (850) the best option in the market was IMO the Galaxy S (at the time I got it) and now the Galaxy S2 which I have. Everything was perfect (except no flash on the S and slowness I didnt know existed until using a dual core cell) but I still missed and currently miss the HTC feel to the cell phones with their designs and metal body at least on the N1.
I cant wait for the Nexus Galaxy or is it Nexus Prime after all? Im gonna go from my S2 to that once the price is right

There are so many great devs that dedicate time to the captivate and have created some amazing stuff. I, for one, would love to see as many as possible migrate over to the One X when it comes out on 5/6. Any takers?

Oh man I'm having a really hard time deciding between the 1X and the S3. I bought my Captivate at launch 2 years ago so my contract is just about up. Been doing a ton of reading. Looks like the GS3, if the recent announcement is correct will be based on a exynos 4412 design. Basically a quad A9 version of the S2 and not much practical benefit with the same gpu and all. On the other hand, the 1X will be a dual-core cortex A15-based Krait design which is much more powerful and more efficient. On the other hand, the S3 will have that fancy new samoled display, but I hear the 1X is something to behold and currently the best display on the market. The white X looks stunning as well but if this pick of the S3 is correct....http://www.stuff-review.com/2012-04/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-leaked-shot/ it might just sway me.
If I'm not mistaken DesignGears is buying the One X.

Chances are I'm going for the One X when my contract is up in May. I actually got to play with one in my local AT&T store yesterday because it wasn't busy and the workers had their pre release out playing with it. I hate how large the phones have got, but for a 4.7" 720p display, it fits so well in the hand, and it amazingly fast. The camera shutter is as fast as everyone claims and transitions are nothing for it. It didn't have a SIM card in it and as much as I wanted to keep playing with it I eventually gave it back to them (they was standing pretty heavily over me while I held it, understandably).

HTC ONE X vs Samsung galaxy s3

So I had the Samsung rep in today showing me the Samsung galaxy s3 today, first thing I did was run a quadrant bench mark and antutu, quadrant benchmark for both were pretty similar. On antutu both phone were pretty similar too, I did like the Samsung feature where you can minimise a video window and watch it while carry out other tasks, neat,,, hope fully it can be hacked to make run on other quad-core phones, build qualiy I have to say was very poor for the Samsung s3, the back cover is a flimsy bit of plastic, so for build quality HTC ONE X wins hands down. I do like the ability of removable battery and Memory card which I wish the one x had,
So guys what are your opinions...

can already do the pop up player thing with "stick it".
As for HOX vs. GS3. I had 2 HOX that were faulty. sent them back and stuck with my Note waiting for GS3 thinking it would be the don of phones. Watched the launch event and was underwhelmed enough to get my 3rd HOX. this one is spot on. I'm lucky/stupid/daft enough to carry a work phone and a personal phone, so might get GS3 as my work handset, definitely want to try it hands on first though.
Yeah but stick it is very glitchy, I have had many Samsung phones and HTC, that's one of the perks working for mobile phone retailer, I have not had any Hox back faulty yet lol,
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
being a stock feature i have no doubt that pop up player is better than stick it, which i have to say i uninstalled as didnt use it. I'm not sure i'd use pop up player, although i have said that in the past about many things that now form part of my daily mobile life! i can see me using that more than the voice recognition thing.
I have no sway one way or the other on sense vs. touchwiz, i am comfortable with either. I was interested in your comments on build quality. I just sold my Galaxy Note and GS2 shortly before that after getting the HOX, i would say the Note and GS2 are better built than the HOX, not as nice a design, and the materials dont feel as classy, but it seemed somehow more solid?? are you saying that the GS3 is more flimsy feeling than the GS2 or Note? disappointing if that is the case, although i will have to hold it in my hand and judge for myself.

HTC Evo3D was one of the worst phones I ever had in terms of build quality. My SGSII isnt as sturdy as my OG Evo and my old Hero, but its held up quite well over the last few months. As far as the HOX vs SGSIII, not having expandable memory is a deal breaker for me. Ill wait to SGSIII is released or get a note if it comes to Sprint.
Overall build quality of both phones is good, Hox is better feel, the s3 when hold it feels cheap, again its a personal opinion, even the Samsung rep said I agree with you, but at the end of the day he works for Samsung so he was quite reluctant to say any thing bad about s3, lol

The build quality has nothing to do with the materials used. HTC uses metals that are heavy and give the impressions of quality, yet they can't keep dust from getting under your screen ... Samsung may use plastic but that keeps the weight low. My SGS 2 (TMo version) compared to My Sensation is hands down for my SGS 2 and they use the same SoC..

On the One X the browser sucks because it keeps using the companion core, and overall the Tegra 3 gets hammered by the new Exynos pretty much everywhere. Anyway if I had to pick a phone now I'd probably get the One S: cheaper, better looking, not too big and with the excellent S4. I'm really looking forward to those WP8 devices with S4s on board. Nokia top notch quality and style + S4 equals epic in my book

Quadrant scores aren't exactly the best way to demonstrate which is better.
A video of both phones side by side performing tasks will be much more telling.
Cool. I heard it hit close, but wasn't sure how close. Do you have anything done to your HOX?
You might want to use the power button + home button to take screenshots in order to prevent the volume changing and getting in the way of your shots. Just a tip.
I think ac did. Video of basic tasks and the att version did better in most tasks. I of course tegra is better in gaming

When someone claims something is faster, I always ask "At what?" The hardware is half the story. It's what application the hardware is used for is what we can actually make use of.
Yes, the Snapdragon S4 Krait beats the Tegra 3 in a benchmark and vice versa has happened in a few instances as well. Essentially, there should be little to no perceivable difference between the two processors. HTC would be stupid to allow for that to happen and Qualcomm equally stupid to allow the Tegra 3 to beat their latest and greatest.
Don't get me wrong because I believe multiple benchmarks are important in order to compare hardware/software to a set standard. But given the small margins in scores, its hard to worry about one being better than the other.
Well for one thing the att one x has much better battery life as well as 4glte

If I wasn't so lazy I'd do a comparison, I have both an At&t and International One X's right in front of me.
Biggest thing of them all......international has a large dev community while you guys don't have much at all

So 8 out of 10 reports says that the AT&T OneX outperformed the International model. Awesome.

To be expected. The S4 is a much more modern chip. Of all the stats the only one that's surprised me is that Teg3 battery life isn't as bad as you'd expect based on it being two 40nm A9 chips glommed together. It actually outperforms the SGS3 on talk time and web browsing when adjusted for battery size. AMOLED kills it on video playback because of the lower drain from darker colors.
Here's all three. And before people get disillusioned about the SGS3 scores, benchmarks are meaningless once speeds pass a certain point. The OS and apps aren't capable of using all the speed available in Exynos Quad, S4, or Teg3. Also when looking at the video scores of older phones keep in mind PPI on new HD phones is 30+% higher. So to compare the actual GPU improvements subtract 30% from an older non-HD phone's score. Same applies to the qHD display on the One S.

We're also blissfully free of all the "enhanced" software provided to make your attachment to AT&T easier and more permanent.
I don't know if you guys saw this, but it's a pretty big difference. And one I'm sure those that are rooting and ROM'ing will be able to get around.
HTC shipping custom Android builds on US devices to avoid Apple patents
By Nilay Patelon May 16, 2012 06:13 pm
"While HTC devices shipped to the rest of the world may still exhibit that behavior, we can confirm that neither the AT&T One X or the Sprint Evo 4G LTE present the offending menu: tapping on a detected phone number or email immediately launches the dialer or email client. "

The international One X can't do this.
It can do it in the us too...its easy on wifi..not as fast on lte but so fast that it doesn't matter...nobody downiads anything which requires so much speed..

But if we was just satisfied with what is NEEDED then there wouldn't be any progress. Not to mention that LTE needs to be that fast for when it gets bogged down by the iPhone 5 when it drops, just like the 3G network did when the 2nd generation iPhone came out.

Why even make excuses? Its so common when someone hears something the device they have can't do make excuses why its not needed (LTE). Or some other reason it's not important.

New Phone soon

Want to get a new phone soon but don't know what to get in regards of long term development I've had my infuse since day one and love the way that its not obsolete after 6months any suggestions would be appreciated

LG OG.
Several of us that were using the Infuse are there.
I personally have gone with the Nexus 4 (Optimus G's brother) not only because i love the look of it but also because of all the developing that's going on with it currently. I can't speak about the OG development but what I've been in terms of development for the N4 is incredible.
What made you chose the 4 over the g

Mostly the design. I've had my fun with a brick looking phone (Infuse). You don't really appreciate the curves until you hold it in your hand and get a feel for it. The glass also is curved at the edges like the HTC One and makes swiping feel very nice. The etched back glass looks incredible in the right lighting too. Overall the phone is just simply sexy. The price is absolutely unbeatable and being the first to get updates is really nice too although I'll be going the custom route which this phone as at least 10 different ROMs already.

Deciding factors for me
1: battery
2:external SD
3:speed

N4 has 3, 4 & 5 and with a different kernel you can increase the battery life pretty well though it will never be easily removable.

I would support the choice of the Nexus 4. Most bang-for-the-buck Android device since ever imo.
If money isn't that much of an issue, I would definitely look to the HTC One for beauty or maybe the SIV since there will almost definitely be a huge following for that phone..
+1 for the GNote....once you use it...you're hooked.

I wouldn't suggest it....HTC is terrible with development. They have crap source...and even had a DMCA takedown on the HTC msn8660 official cyanogenmod source. Not to mention you not only have to unlock the bootloader but also s-off the device if you wanna be able to flash roms away from a computer. HTC one x had a big problem with achieving s-off for a couple months too....
HTC one looks good as do most htcs, but if you want dome aosp deving its def not the device to go for IMHO
Btw, long time no talk guys I'm still trying to decide on my next device as I'm due for an upgrade as well...

I'm personally leaning towards the SIV... about the same size as the Infuse, except a 5 inch screen+quad core+2gb ram....

I love my infuse but upgrade time came about two weeks ago and I went for the note2 and its awesome!!!! once you start using it you really appreciate the size of the screen it just makes doing everyday things on the phone easier and more enjoyable. I was also on the fence about waiting for the s4 but I went for the bigger screen and battery

I'm up for upgrade too and was looking at the HTC phones. I like the solid metal feel, but I guess I should reconsider. What would you recommend especially regarding development friendliness? (Samsung? LG? I know the Nexus is great for that) I'm not opposed to waiting for a while. I am extremely content with the active and awesome development work on here.
Is the large size of the Note 2 inconvenient at all? My beloved Infuse already takes up most of my pocket
I'll likely get a nexus4 or an iPhone. I'm tired of waiting for 3rd parties to support devices when the motivation is to make you buy a new one.
My wife has an atrix 4g, and still on stock 2.3. It's buggy to say the least.
I have a nexus 7, and didn't even feel the need to root it until recently. Stock actually works, and doesn't leave you wanting much more.
Sure, our infuses still work. We can flash firmware beyond 2.3, but the lack of official support means that some things are broken and will never be fixed... HDMI, 720p, etc.

Been debating getting the N2 for a while.. Just not sure if I want to get it 5 months into its life. But honestly, compared to the GS4, the only thing really better to me at least is the 1080p display which is more of just a number selling point almost. Been out of contract for like 3 months now and getting ready to pull the trigger...
Blackberry Z10 or Q10.
I was playing with the BB Z10 the other day and it looks like they have a winner on their hands.
