Bricked [A510] Need Help please ! - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

Hi everyone,
I just bricked my A510 and I am unable to fix it. My tablet does not have a bootlader at the moment and it won't boot. I found this guide in the forums but this guide does not work for A510 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585907
I also tried to enter the APX mode by following this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747802 but I also had no luck there.
If I can enter the APX mode then maybe I can flash a new bootloader and then using recovery I might be able to install one of the ROMs I found here. But so far no go.
Any help with unbricking my tablet will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all

sad,
how did it happen ?
sorry, no answer to help currently

The method for the 500 tab for APX mode, was press and hold the reset (paper clip hole on the bottom). Then press and hold PWR till it vibrates. Then count to 3 seconds, release PWR, then 1 second later release the paper clip.
This should leave you with a black screen, and the PWR light should be on.
This was for the 500/501 series tabs.

the method for APX is described in one of the quoted post of the OP. However the only way to check the A510 is in APX is to plug it to the computer.
In this cas you have to press and hold both volume keys, press reset with a paper clip, and the release the volume keys. The screen will stay black and the power led will not lit either.
However APX mode is only for flashing via nvflash and we don't have any element to flash an A510 this way...

None of the shortcut methods for entering APX mode discussed in these forums worked for A510. They only make the tablet turn on as usual and it just gets stuck in the boot screen with Acer logo. I guess I will have to wait until someone finds a way. Please keep me posted if you find out or hear any solution.
Thank you

One of the old tricks (hold PWR & Vol- & toggle rotation lock) still works.

This also did not work on A510
Thanks to everyone who replied and tried to help though.

I think that tegra 3 no longer support nvflash from tegra 2. Well it's for transformer prime but it worth a try. It's tegra 3 too. Just I don't know how to modify it to work on Acer A510.

I cannot seem to get my gtab to boot anymore. I was in the middle of flashing it a week ago and I hit the power button in the middle of the process, and it shut off. I have been unable to boot it beyond a black screen since then.
I tried to put cwmod on the microsd card and hold power + volume up while booting but nothing happens.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
Yeah - I bricked mine as well trying to get rid of the birds. Will post link to my fix shortly.

Awesome, thanks guys nvflash did the trick!
help!
I had a very similar issue but I don't see how nvflash will help. My tablet refuses to load at all after a failed rom attempt. I don't get the load screen and I definitely can't do the power + volume button reset.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Note that nvFlash is power - volume, not power + volume that's used to get into recovery mode. while using nvflash, you need to have tablet to be connected to the pc in order to run nvflash. when power - volume is pressed, screen appears to be turned off on the tablet, until you run nvflash.bat on pc to push the stock rom. Hope that helps..
The black screen after the "birds logo" or even when you power on and don't get the logo is when the tablet is stuck in APX mode. It is hard to tell the difference between tablet off and tablet on in apx mode.
The best thing to do is plug in USB to the PC and see if the tablet shows up as a device (check device manager on Windows). If there is nothing popping up in Dev. Manager then try pressing the power button again to turn it on. Even though the screen still looks off, the device should come up and you can access it with nvflash.
As others have said, using nvflash to get back to stock, or even just flashing CWM recovery will sometimes work.

[Q] Bricked my pad

Hi, I think I bricked my pad. Only thing I can access is CWM.
What I did was to install ubuntu tablet version and my tablet started to show black screen but do nothing else.
Then I managed to get into CWM by volume down and power and then volume up.
Now,I installed one of those roms at here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112527
and my tab freezes at the startup screen where it says Eee Pad Asus.
How can I recover from here? volume up+power( for ASX) does not work too!
Tried one of the unbricking methods yet ?

Why do you think APX mode is not working?
Long press power for about 30 seconds to make sure the tablet is off, then try APX mode again, make sure it is plugged into the USB PC when you power it off and when you try APX so you know when it has connected by the USB connect sound
Does adb work? and in another 'help I'm bricked!' thread a few threads down in Q&A I posted a total NvFlash use guide. Try my PERI tool, then Easyflasher, and if neither work then find my other post and follow that.
Detection posted links above me^^

[Q] Asus TF300T bricked. Black screen and APX mode only. I'm desperate!

Hello to everyone. I beg your help, please. I bought this amazing second hand tablet last friday. At the first attemp, and because I didn't want to read all the threads, I bricked the tablet. Yes, stupid thought, I know.
Because I wasn't happy with the result, I wiped all and delete bootloader, system, data... Everything. I know something with Microsoft issues and brave me (and silly) I thought It was similar, that I could start from outside of the tablet even if it was blank.
Anyway, the facts are:
The tablet is allways on, in APX mode. When I press down the power boton, it reboot. I know because when it's conected to my laptop, I can see the USB interface conected and the APX mode on it.
The screen is allways in black. ALLWAYS. No matter if I try to start in recovery in bootloader or any other way to start the system. Black, nice black.
Of course, no result in Power + Vol up, Power + Vol -, pressing power during 3 hours and 23 minutes... (I'm joking), but for long.
The only signal by which I know that it's not dead at all its when I conect the charger. I can see the small orange light in the power buton saying: "I'm alive"
Ok, I don't know what to do. I've read during the weekend as much as I could, tried evrything and nothing fixed. If it helps, before playing to be God, I had Android 4.0.1, I unlocked the bootloader with the apk, I installed the TWRP recovery and everything were right until I wanted to update the rom. Some mystakes that I don't remember and this is what I can tell you. Any holy soul which can help me, please? If not, can anyone help me? Thank you and I'll be looking forward your help.

Are you able to access fastboot? If so, flash the STOCK ASUS 4.0.1 Rom again. The mistake I think you made was flashing a ROM not compatible with the bootloader you have. You first have to update the bootloader to 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 to flash any of the current ROMS.
No fastboot, no bootloader update.

Thanks for the reply:
I can't access fastboot. The tablet does nothing, just allways on in APX, so I can't update the bootloader. Neither I can't switch it off. I've read smething about run out the battery and start a process with ODIN?
I haven't tried it before, but maybe there's a way to create a bootable SD that will automatically install one of the stock ROMs so you can start over again?
If you can't get to the bootloader/fastboot/recovery and only have APX and no back upped NVFlash files then I think you are bricked unfortunately
hi is there any solution to solve this problem, or tablet dead
I'm in the same situation! :crying:
no solution???
Same story
Same here -- black screen, PC recognizes it as an APX device, but neither fastboot nor adb seem to work.
I didn't even try to mod mine. I was just using it normally, and it crashed, and now all it does is give me a black screen. When I poke the reset button, my PC notices the device disconnection and then a minute later it re-connects, but still nothing.
Holding down volume up/down during reset does nothing. Holding down power, with or without volume buttons, for an extended period does nothing.
This looks to be like an epidemic problem for these devices. Has nobody gotten a handle on it yet?
pty
I am also in your situation.
I have a tablet with Tegra xperia 3, black screen! APX mode only!
Does not read any adb and fastboot driver!!
There are new?
Hi everyone,
for me now the same situation. Only APX aviable. no fastboot ect...
pls help me solve this issue.
Thanks a lot.
Turn on in APX-Mode. You won't see anything on the screen, the display does not turn on.
If you connect the USB cable to a Windows PC, Windows will recognize it as an APX device.
On this mode you may use nvflash tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969797.
If nothing works, you should exchange the Mainboard!

[Q][UNBRICK] Is my TF700 a brick OR asleep in APX MODE?

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here so forgive my errors (if any):
I have tried a few things on my TF700:
1. I have installed the rooting tool from asus website and after activating it,
The first boot scrren said (on top left corner) "the device is unlocked"
When running the app again it would give an error.
2. I tried soft reset - nothing there.
3. I went for hard reset - I accidently went for the left most icon....
After a little investigation on a few pages here I think it is in APX mode..???
It turns on but stays in the first screen with the white ASUS logo on screen & thats it...
Any ideas anyone???
How do I save my precious TF700??
I tried connecting to it through USB installing (Linux):
cat > /etc/udev/rules.d/60-nvflash.rules <<END
# nvflash support for Nvidia Tegra systems attached to USB
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0955", ATTR{idProduct}=="7820", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"

If you use the Asus unlock tool, you should not brick your device. It looks like that you wipe your system some how. I am guessing here... Can you do some test for me? If you on the Asus screen, just press the power button for about 10 seconds until it shuts down and then keep holding the power button with the volume down at the same time until you are going back to the three icons, thanks. I just want to see if you can get back to your recovery...

Than you for you reply...
I already tried that...it just loops the same shut down to ASUS LOGO screen with no response to the volume down button.
I also let it run out of power so to try & get it out of this loop which resembles an APX loop but in vain...it just keeps on powering up to the same state...
Will give it another go....
There isn't even a pause where I can slip the volume down button in, that is why I let it run out of power to slip the volume down button in...& that is what I am going to do now...let it charge for a short while and power it up with the volume down button (which did not work for several tries...)

The device will enter in APX mode only with the Volume UP + Power buttons combo and to get out of that mode you need to hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds.
If you can't get to the bootloader menu (the one with the 3 icons) anymore you are out of luck and only Asus can repair your device. APX it's useful only if you have the NvFlash backup.
Inserting a microSD with an original Asus firmware is also useless if you can't access the bootloader menu because you can't boot in recovery mode.

Make sure you do EXACTLY what sdbags said - he IS the expert.
With the tablet powered OFF, press and hold BOTH the power button and volume down button together, for at least 10 seconds. It should bring you back to the screen with the 3 icons. RCK, android robot icon, wipe. RCK gets you to recovery mode where you can use TWRP for recovery/flash installs, etc. Middle android is the cold boot option which sometimes fixes problems like you're having. Don't do wipe unless someone like sdbags explicitly tells you.
Hope you can fix this.

Well guys...thank you all for your help & time...
I tried everything anyone here suggested but unfortunately ended up with the same result: ASUS white logo screen.
The tablet is still under the first year time period...any suggestions as for how to get it fixed (RMA) without paying tones of money?
What should I say happened???
Guess RCK does not work on my device...(?)
Thank you all...
Did you try the middle android icon to see if that helped? You switch to the middle one by pressing volume down, then select it by pressing volume up.
The device also have a reset button (a tiny hole near the micro hdmi port),use a paperclip to press it and hope for the best.
As for the RMA ,Asus could charge you for repairing because you unlocked the bootloader but some users here on XDA also reported that Asus repaired their device for free even if the bootloader was unlocked.
