I'm surprised you haven't been flamed yet. All your answers can be found on the AT&T website.
But, since its almost Thanksgiving:
1 - Yes, within the first 30 days, after that, it's gonna cost you something like $175 to terminate your contract.
2 - You might be able to buy the Fuze without a contract for the no-commitment price. But be aware that AT&T is starting to refuse to sell to non-AT&T customers more and more, especially with "hot" phones like the Fuze. You can always walk into a store and social engineer yourself a phone ("It's a gift for my dad, who's on AT&T").
3- Phones are new, unless otherwise stated.
4- I believe you have to sign up for (and keep) a contract in order to qualify for the mail-in rebate. The AT&T promo card, basically gives you AT&T credit, not actual cash. Thus, you get a $50 AT&T card... that can't be used as cash, but can be used to buy accessories or pay your bill.
5- Probably several. Google is your friend.
An additional note: You can buy the Fuze for the no-commitment price and no contract and you still qualify for the 30 day guarantee. If you don't like the phone, you can return it within 30 days for a refund.
In order to not get charged a %15 restocking fee, keep your receipt and all the packing materials (and everything) in as pristine condition as possible.
This is a nice policy of AT&T's
thanks for not flaming me
so i can cancel the contract within the first 30 days and still keep my phone....and this can be done online ?
thnx again !
if you cancel it before 30 days, they will ask you to return the phone. so wait 30 days then cancel it, but they will charge $175 for ETF, $40 for a month of service, and $36 for activation.
LOL these guys are smart....just hoped i could get around that someway....but hey a fuze without contract is still good enough for me....is letstalk.com reliable enough ?
Be extra careful when dealing with "Authorized Resellers" which is basically anyone that is not a corporate store. Read the fine print they often time include termination fees of their own. So you may get a Fuze for $150 up front but then you cancel at day 32 and you've got AT&T ETF plus the reseller's ETF.
Do the math before you do anything else:
AT&T Corporate Store (contract):
$350 Contract price
$175 Early Term Fee
===============
$525 Total Cost
AT&T Corporate Store (no contract:
$500 Retail price
===============
$500 Total Cost
Authorized Reseller:
$200 Contract price
$175 AT&T Early Term Fee
$200 Seller Early Term Fee
===============
$575 Total Cost
i unfortunately had my fuze stolen and with no insurance and no upgrades available i will be forced pay over 350+ for a new fuze. I noticed there are several sites offering free fuzes or low priced fuzes with a new contract. I do not want a new contract and i was wondering would it be possible to sign up and get the fuze and then cancel the contract and keep the fuze. I know there is an early termination fee of $175 for at&t but that is still cheaper than $350..
Does anyone know if this will work?
thanksd
i don't think it'd work out. the prices and termination fees were set up so you'd be the one taking all the hits. a few things u should keep in mind is that if u plan on canceling ur contract, ur phone # is lost as well. And $350 is what you'll pay when you get a new contract from AT&T, so you'll definitely be paying $175 + $375. Now some will say you can get a free from from online stores like amazon or letstalk, but the contracts you sign through those online retailers commits you to very expensive plans for a certain period of time (half a year I believe). and if you were to cancel that new line before contract ends, they will actually make you spit out the rest of money to pay full price for the phone.
This will not work for the reason that most of the time the contact fee is a mail in rebate. You would have to pay atleast the first 2 months before canceling.
dont know the technicalities of this, but maybe you could subscribe to a new number to get a new phoen for free then cancel that line a couple-few months in? My friend did that with big red a couple months ago to get a new phone.
I don't think that would work. You would have to stay pass the 30 trial period, then pay the early termination fee. So you'd be paying Activation charge, First months bill, phone (since mail in rebate, data plan required), plus early termination fee.
It would be best to bite the bullet and pay the 350+ or shop around to see if anyone is trying to get rid of theirs.
Good Luck!
and sorry to hear about your lost.

Also if your current contract is not yet expired you can put it on "vocation" play, which temporary suspends your phone from usage, but you pay only a few bucks a month. Just say that you leave the country for a few month
From the horses mouth
If you cancel your contract within the first 6 months you will owe the difference between the price you paid and the retail price, you will also be liable for the cancellation fee. It is in the dealers agreement as well as the terms and conditions.
I'm trying to find the best (read:cheapest), and preferably (but certainly not top priority) soonest, way to get the Sensation 4G.
The prices for T-Mobile's stores have been announced:
$200 on-contract after $50 MIR
$550 off-contract
From people posting yesterday, I've seen the Wal-Mart prices as well:
$150 on-contract
$600 off-contract
T-Mobile's ETF: $200.
Currently, I'm off-contract (and want to stay that way). So, if I were to buy off-contract, I pay $550 at T-Mobile. However, on-contract, Wal-Mart is both cheaper and sooner (06/12 vs 06/15).
However, if I'm thinking correctly about this, then buying on-contract, and then cancelling would be cheaper:
Wal-Mart: $150 for device + $35 activation + $30 for half-month of service + $200 ETF = $415.
T-Mobile: $200 for device + $35 activation + $30 for half-month of service + $200 ETF = $465.
Either way, it's cheaper than buying off-contract...
The half-month of service (cheapest data plan) is for the return period (#4 in Terms/Conditions), because if you cancel then, you have to return the device too (if I understand correctly).
So the question becomes: is there any downside to buying on-contract and cancelling as opposed to buying off-contract? Or is there some other fee/limitation?
If you buy your contract is through a third party, Walmart, they may have additional fees if you cancel the contract. If you cancel your contract before you get your rebate, you might not get the rebate.
By adding the line and then canceling it extend the 2yr contract?
also you will be forced into there 2gb max current plans.. i like my current 5gb max. did not want to lose it

If you don't get the rebate it would be $50 more then that, making it $515. I just don't think it's worth the effort to work the system like this. Just pay the $550 and be done with it. That is probably what I will be doing.
I think I'm going to wait until the phone is absolutely boot loader unlocked and rooted before I lay my cash down though. Maybe it will be on sale by then.

Go to walmart and ask them if they tack on any extra ETF. If they don't then you have your answer.

Right. Forgot about the rebate...
Seems they've got their bases covered then... Saving $35 isn't worth all that hassle.
As for the bootloader, there's a good chance that it will be unlocked even if HTC fail to deliver. The devs have an ENG H-BOOT (rahan95 has a rooted phone, actually), Bin4ry is working on getting recovery working, and S-OFF will probably be possible via XTC Clip (raskal is working on that). Of course, I may be overly optimistic about all this, but even so, I'd like to try and help in any way I can...

I called two different walmarts asking if they had the sensation, and asked about ETF while I was at it. One said yes, but didn't have the sensation. The other said no, but they don't sell T-Mobile phones on-contract (?? strange, but that's what they told me)...
I'm wondering the same thing, but I'm currently not a T-Mobile customer. I don't want to be on contract, so I'm questioning whether I should buy the phone outright or buy from Walmart, pay the ETF, then pay another activation fee which would still be cheaper than $550+activation. I read in the Walmart thread that Walmart does not charge an additional ETF on top of T-Mobile's but with all this conflicting information, it may be best to get something in writing from the Walmart we're purchasing from.
If you want it new in box, wait two weeks and get one in the classifieds or ebay, just make sure it was originally gotten from a T-Mobile store, if you have insurance/extended warranty on your account, you'll still be able to do a warranty exchange with it...

how bout this... would this work?
adding a line to the current plan and buying the sensation from walmart at 149, then a week later calling t-mobile and canceling that extra line under the 14 day cancellation thing and keeping the phone and not returning it to walmart.
^^ yeah I don't think that would work

Curious... why wouldn't this work? I'm not saying that gaming the system is right, but if Walmart doesn't tack on their own ETF, you're only out the cost of the phone, T-Mobile's ETF, and any service-related costs incurred during that line's use. It could turn out to be a tad cheaper than buying the phone outright.

personally, i decided it's too much hassle. i'm just gonna pay the off-contract price and avoid all complications...
Guys, from your experiences, does walmart really track the pre-14 days cancellations from T-Mobile? Would they come after someone who has cancelled service during the trial period and not returned the phone? I mean they got their 150.

So after putting up with this phone through countless software bugs and random reboots, it finally turned off yesterday and never turned back on again. Called T-Mobile and begged for a Sensation (lol), but they said no. In fact, not only do I have to pay $20 for expedited shipping, I also have to pay a $20 "warranty processing fee". Absolutely ridiculous. AT&T hasn't even taken over yet and already they are extorting money from their customers. This is the last LG product I will ever buy.
Thats really absurd. I would search your contract up and down and find where it says in their warranty that it is 20$ to exchange. Didnt cost me anything to exchange mine.

20 dollars is 3 day shipping and 10 is standard ground. but i think they took standard ground away recently
Have you done a ton of warranty replacements before? I haven't done a ton, but never had to pay a dime for some arbitrary warranty processing fee or shipping for that matter. I would escalate if this is your first or second exchange. That doesn't seem reasonable.

Mine did this and I've come across this in several other tegra device threads.
Put it in NVFlash mode and reflash CWM.
It took several attempts of flashing various versions of CWM and the stock kernel before it revived. Use that 1click NVFlasher app and attempt to power on between flashes.

Also I've been told they will refund you $10 once you receive the phone and call. They did this on a replacement I had. I *****ed about the shipping fee because they've never charged me before.

I was charged $20 as well but opted for the free shipping which took less than a week. I disputed the $20 and was able to get it reduced to $10 in the form of a $10 credit on your next billing cycle.
My second G2X is rebooting and the GPS takes minutes to get a lock. Thinking about going to Sprint with their Samsung Galaxy S2 version the "Within" coming in a month or two.

well that sucks
It's actually my impression that this $20 "warranty processing fee" is ONLY for G2X replacements. I've been a T-Mobile customer for 9 years and replaced a few phones over that time and never had any fee like that. Anyone I've talked to who has recently replaced a non-G2X has not been required to pay this fee. Additionally, I can't find anywhere in any contract where they have the right to charge me this fee for a device IN WARRANTY. If there really is no fine print anywhere, and they are selectively charging only customers trying to exchange G2Xs, then this could be grounds for a class-action lawsuit against TMO as well...
But yes, I will call them up here in the next few days and basically tell them there is no way in hell I am actually paying that $20.

This is not a fee for users only exchanging a G2X, T-mobile exchange policies changed with the recent PHP Insurance and Warranty plan changes.
Here is the cost break down now:
No PHP Extended Warranty = $20 Service Warranty Processing Fee with free ground shipping or another $20 for 3 day expedited shipping.
Yes PHP Extended Warranty = $5 Service Warranty Processing Fee with free next day air shipping.
This is tru. The policy has changed....

Do you know where this info is? Did I actually accept these terms when I bought the plan/phone or does T-Mobile just make them up regardless of a contract/purchase and then enforce them on everyone?

I am sure there is some legalese section somewhere about it, but I don't know for sure. Check your contract to see or find t-mobiles terms and condition online.
Wow, I probably should have done more research on this. Just got my first bill.
So for anyone else researching, the total cost (on AT&T) for an S3 watch over 3 years is $1068. And it's actually 21.50/month don't get fooled by the fake $10/mo quote.
$249 purchase price
$45 "activation" (lol)
$10/mo device fee
$1/mo "service fee"
$10.50 taxes/fees/mo (yes, you read that right that's over a 100% tax you're paying)
Over 3 years that adds up to $1068. My guess is only about 25% of people will still be wearing their S3 after 3 years.
It's kind of a rip-off, I probably wouldn't have bought if I'd thought about it a bit more. Caveat emptor. The big problem is the over 100% monthly fees and taxes.
$10 sounds reasonable, $20+ doesn't really and I would have probably balked. My own fault, I guess, but make sure you know this.
EDIT: OK, as I was fuming about this I checked my order email and due to corporate discount they were supposed to waive the $45 activation fee. They didn't, I assume because they are scumbags and just wait to see if you notice the incorrect charge and call. I called and they took it off, so that's.. umm.. nice I guess?
Ha yes. Same kind of experience. ATT rep told me it would be 10 bucks too and I would just share data off my unlimited plan for my phone. I signed up for the pre order of the watch at 349 out right so it was not on contract. Due to pre-order the $40 service activation was supposed to be waived. Got my bill sure enough it was on there. I chat with an AT&T rep over IM on their site. I did get the fee waived but still what a pain in the butt it raised my bill over $50 not 10. Will have to see what it is next month
Having taxes and fees that double the monthly bill does seem excessive... But, if you view the S3 as essentially a phone, its reasonable to expect to pay $20-30/mo for it's plan. If it's just a companion device for your smartphone, then fork over the extra $100 to buy it outright and cancel the plan.
The biggest complaint I have with regard to this watch is the eSIM, which restricts the carriers it can be used with, eliminating the possibility of using on an inexpensive MVNO plan.
Yeah. So, buy the bluetooth, non-LTE version and save about $768 over that same time frame.
