[Q] Why can't I find an email client on Android that rivals those on iOS? - General Questions and Answers

I'm not posting this to start any sort of flame-wars or anything.
Coming from iOS, one of the best things about any iOS e-mail client (be it Sparrow or Mail.app) is that HTML formatted email looks exactly like it's supposed to. It's not cluttered up or squeezed to the width of the screen. I've yet to see a client on Android that does this properly (GMail is probably the worst in this regard).
Google did a great job with Chrome; the page loads zoomed out and when you zoom in, you just enlarge a piece of the page without reflowing anything. Is there such a mail client for Android that does the same sort of thing and just makes an HTML-formatted email look good?

Anyone? I'm really interested in a good email client if there is one.

A good email competitor that I personally use is Gmail. I love its simplicity and just slickness of getting the job done. Not only that, but it label things which can be useful. I personally think the Gmail app is the best competitor for any iOS email app right now at the moment.

Did that answer your question?

Check out Enhanced Email or Maildroid.

IMO, the best email app for Android is K-9. You can set it up any way you want. Works with APG if you need encryption.

No, not really. I see GMail as one of the worst client on Android if you try to look at any HTML formatted email. It seems to butcher those emails 9 times out of 10. I tried K-9 a while ago, and I don't know of its changed or not. Enhanced mail was better than Gmail as far as formatting, but still not up to par with the iOS mail clients.
Do you know what I mean?

I can't be the only one who's had this issue.

Did you check out Enhanced Email as I suggested? It displays HTML nicely for me.

Here's the same email from both phones. The iPhone displays it properly and zoomed out regardless of orientation. Enhanced Email does not, and I cannot zoom out any further.

EE displays HTML properly to me, in full intended size. I sometimes have to turn to landscape to see everything without scrolling side-to-side, sometimes not, but again, to me that's proper behavior.
If email is shown shrunk to fit in portrait mode as in your example, it's often unreadable, too small. Your iPhone example would soon drive me crazy.
I suppose the ultimate compromise solution would be for the email to be auto-reformatted to fit like a browser does. I don't know of a mobile email client that does that. Possibly Maildroid will.

GMail is byfar the best, but if you don't use gmail as your primary, try K9

"Yahoo Go! is the first application optimized for the “small screen” of a mobile phone that truly makes it easy and fun to access the Internet. Everything about the Yahoo! Go interface is designed to be both visually stunning and give you what you want with the fewest clicks possible.
At its core is the carousel, used to navigate intuitively among the various Yahoo! Go widgets: your own personal channels for email, local info & maps, news, sports, finance, entertainment, weather, Flickr™ photos and search. Simply use the carousel to scroll over to the widget you want. Since Yahoo! Go uses advanced caching and background loading technology, your widget content is automatically and continuously “pushed” to your phone, so it’s always right there when you want it. You don’t need to endure lengthy downloads or navigate loads of links to get to what you want."
Granted, on Windows Mobile devices we've had the capacity for years to do a LOT of things that this app presents as "revolutionary", but what is rather impressive is the way they've integrated it all together. Check out the demo and you'll see.
At this time, they list a total of 77 Windows Mobile devices on which Go should work (though many have a small balloon stating "coming soon!"). Unfortunately the XV6600 is not one of the devices on which it will work. Sad
Live Search, Google Maps, and now Yahoo Go! - gotta love the choices and the competition it breeds! We the consumer end up being the winner!

I used to use it a while back and it was fine... some people complained about it taking over their hotmail inbox on their devices but i chose not to sync mail.
2.0 is still not released on pocket pc so till then i can't give you a good answer (its been a since i've used 1.0)
I used version 1 for a while - until it decided it didn't wanna work anymore that is. Good app. I like the Calender and Contact link. I'll try V2 once it's released for WM in April.
its not released for most wm devices yet.
like someone said before the first beta kinda sucked. it took over your ppc. it asked you to upload pics to yahoo every time you snapped a pic. then it always asked to connect instead of doing it quietly in the backround. on top of that it had no stand alone messenger (everything is about money with these guys) and lastly it had the worst memory leak. everytime i tried it out for more than 2 days i had to hard reset my wizard. it didnt even have html mail.
the concept was great but they never delievered a good product. i hope this gamma release fixes all the problems. and if they cheat us out of a messenger then im going to have to scrap it again.
i must admit though, i am looking forward to the gamma. im curious. btw, any leaks of it yet????

I agree. I tried it out and had to uninstall it within an hour. I found it very frustrating to use, slow to respond and devoid of any useful error messages.

Email Apps

Looking for some help here regarding versions of email apps/clients.
I am currently using Embryo 6.1 which includes Email 4.0 (or at least that was it says in application management). The icon is a white envelope with a blue "@" symbol on it. It does work fine with exchange accounts. I just don't like how things are laid out as much.
Most other ROMs I have used so far have either included a version with "exchange" which I really don't know the version but I do know the icon is again a white envelope that is open with a yellow card coming out of it, the card has an "@" symbol on it. See the image below.

What version of email is this, I have always seen it referred to as "exchange email?" My googling has not been very productive to answer what version or even the name, only yielded some images with the icon above.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but it may give you an alternate you prefer. I've used Touchdown for a year for my exchange account. I love it - it is very similar to having Outlook on your phone. 30 day trial. http://nitrodesk.com/

+1 for K9-Mail. It works, just works, does what it's supposed to do, all the time, every time. Push emails, poll, whatever it just works.

Why don't you just use the aosp mail? Imho really it's the best e-mail app and if you have an msn/hotmail/outlook account it beats their mail app to the ground (yuk).
It's easy to replace stock email with it. I would suggest you extract the version from CM7/9/10 zip depending on the version of your FW.

[Discussion] What will you use as your Google Reader replacement?

Now that Google announced, in March, that their Reader Service will be shutting down in just a few days (July 1st to be exact) what will the masses use for their continued RSS experience?
There have been several companies/reader services/apps that have taken advantage of the monetary funds waining on Google's end like AOL, Feedly, Press, Digg. And then there are paid services like NewsBlur, Feedbin and Net news wire (really, paid services for RSS? - I thought that people said about two years ago that RSS was dead.. Guess not, haha).
What will hit me the hardest is that I'll have to wait for a RSS feed reader app that has a widget that will be able to tap into the power of Google RSS Reading.
My hopes are that AOL takes the ball that was handed to them and makes a worthy Android app with a full screen HTC-like widget. My second hope is that other apps like Color Widgets and Pure Widgets are still able to utilize Google's API after Google terminates their services.
So, what are all your thoughts on this and what will/are you use/using?
Right now I am still using Google's Reader. But what happens in the event that Google stops all services related to their Reader.. Just for in that case, I did utilize the TakeOut service that allows you to download an XML of the feeds you've accumulated over the years. I really suggest that everyone use this as it's always a good idea to have a backup anyway. So even if you can't login to your Google Reader RSS Feeds, you'll always have that backup.
Feedly
I've been using the app / website Feedly for my RSS needs. It even had a Google RSS import feature. Pretty slick.

I just wish that the widget would work on Sense Roms :/ I get an error that Force Closes the Personalize settings when applying the widget.
For now, this is what I am using until something else pops up, like the AOL Reader app.
So far I have also tried the Opera browser for pc but there is not an option, in the mobile Opera browser apps, for feeds.
And I just tried all the above and so far I really like quite a few of them. I just hope they'll be able to still access the API needed to continue development.
Hinto
For news reading, you can also use hinto[dot]co
It's a free web app that allows you to select which websites contents to keep up with.
current naadin
I have never used Google Reader. I prefer feedly and Flipboard.
I never used anything else but Netvibes.
Feedly! It's fairly similar to flip board and Google Reader and you can even import your Google Reader setting and news! I love this app and definitely recommend it as your news replacement. Ofc it supports adding rss feeds as well.

[APP][4.0+] Floating Mail - Email client with (Facebook) chatheads style notification

Floating Mail is a free email client with chat-heads style notifications.
Based on the popular K-9 Mail, Floating Mail is a free email client with chat-heads style notifications.
Get notified on new emails with beautiful chat head style floating notifications.
Floating mail allows you to read incoming mail while using other apps.
Just touch the floating bubble to open your incoming mail. You can freely move the bubble and toss it around the screen.
The floating bubble will display your contact's picture (if one is available).
Update: I'm getting a lot of good reactions, especially about the floating UI, and I must say that the credit for it goes to Tooleap. I created several floating apps with their SDK and I know they accept developers to their private beta on their site: www.tooleap.com
Here is their XDA thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727437

Does this replace K9 or augment it? Get similar capability with Floatifications on ROMs with Halo or allowing Xposed XHalo module.
If it replaced K9, will it takes its configuration?
Very nice, but... cannot open/save attachments in Exchange mail

An interesting concept and implementation, though I am not big fan of green email icon though, I actually hate the icon (no offend)... I would probably recommend you to make it use email app's own icon to displayed (not sure how difficult this would be)
neverletless, this is excellent app, in fact I found quite useful to use (have been testing last an hour or so), so a lot of thanks FloatricksQ:good:

New Gmail Leaked Screenshots - Features Show A New UI, Pinned And Snoozed Messages

SOURCE : Kickedface
Email is one of those things that you either see as a necessary evil that consumes more of your day than it needs to, or it’s something you ignore completely until you absolutely have to use it. Anyone who says they actually enjoy using email is probably suffering from a digital variant of Stockholm Syndrome, but over the last year there have been several apps that have made the experience a lot more bearable. Gmail is high up on that list. Now it looks like Google is exploring ways to make email something people actually want to use.

At first glance it looks a lot like Gmail as you know it now, but with a few key differences that radically change how the email client is used. For starters, there are a lot more tabs to separate all of your email into. Currently the groups are Social, Promotions, Forums, and Updates. This version of Gmail includes Travel, Purchases, and Finance to the mix, with the same basic properties that the existing five tabs currently have, In your primary Inbox, you’ll see these grouped both in the side menu and at the top of your inbox if there are new messages for those categories.
There’s also a new Pinned feature, which functions exactly as you’d expect.
You can pin an email if you want it to stay floating at the top of your Inbox, and there’s a toggle switch for when you want to see your pinned emails and when you want those messages to go back to their original point in the Inbox. This looks like it would be a great deal more useful than the current star system, which doesn’t appear in this UI at all.
Your emails can also be Snoozed in this new UI. Snoozing an email means it appears as read until the timer goes off, when it will then float to the top of your Inbox as an unread email. You can choose to snooze an email for a couple of hours or several weeks depending on your need, and you can snooze messages over and over again if you choose to.
This is not very likely a final version of Gmail. These shots are the result of Google trying out new features to see what will work for Gmail before making them available to the public. It’s pretty clear that Google’s goal with each of these features is to make email something you can better organize and manipulate to serve your needs, which in turn gives them a better idea of what information you think is important for Google Now and other services. Hopefully we get to see more than a couple of these features in the real world soon.
it seems to be true but so far I hate it, I'm just glad it will work perfectly with tinted statusbar
