[q] how to make brut navigation use original google maps instead of brut maps? - HTC Desire S

I just wanted to know is it possible to make the brut navigation use the original google maps instead of the brut-google maps? I'm asking this because the brut version of google maps is old and the "Make available offline" feature of google maps which downloads the selected area in the map and stores it in the sd card is not available.

"Brut navigation" is a hack in Google Maps APK.
Obviously, you can't use the hack if you're installing a whole different, regular Google Maps APK. The hack isn't there, and there's nothing to use.

[Q] Offline maps

Hey,
Wish google maps wouldn't require INTERNET connection and would work offline.
Since this is currently a fact...
I'm writing an application on Android and looking for Map Lib SDK that will enable me to display objects(layer) on top of a map in OFFLINE mode.
Having problems find one. Will appreciate your help.
I doubt Google will add offline feature ever. I have modded Google Maps app and added maps caching (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737119), but you need something for Maps API. I want to mod Maps API as well, but I have many more important things to do right now, so maybe in the future.
Thanks for the reply.
It sounds too good. I'm going to try that.
From you description, I just need to copy the zip folder to SD card.
I'm new to Android, but shouldn't I install any *.apk?
Appreciate your elaboration on installation method.
Another question.
Once it'll be installed, how to store maps in SD card and make google load them offline. When phone connected to the internet, will it take the map offline or from web?
Thanks
Ohh, I had mistaken. I wanted to give you this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
But as I said: this is an app with caching, not Maps API library, so it doesn't give you possibility to cache maps in your own app.

What maps are you talking about?
Google maps are cached on your device upto a certain extent, if you enable that option.
If you mean the HTC maps (from Locations), you cannot use them here.
As for third party maps, like Sygic Aura (the one i use personally), you only have to download the app after purchase, and it downloads the maps automatically over Wifi using a built in Downloader into its own folder on the sd card (varies with the map application and manufacturer)
Ok. I used the sense build-in navigation from HTC and saved the maps. I thought i can use them in cm7 too.
Thx for your answer

[Q] Google Maps version without Google Play Services dependency?

Does anyone know what is the latest version of Google Maps with no dependency, i.e., which is *not* dependent on Google Play Services? And if so, where can I get the APK?
Background: I have just switched to CyanogenMod 7, based on Android 2.3.7, on my trusty much-sat-on Galaxy Ace. The only Google app I can't bear to lose is Maps, partly because of its My Places feature. But Maps + Play + Play Services = over 50MB of the 180MB app space eaten up! That is ridiculous for one app. I don't mind not having the latest features of Google Maps, it's the Google Places database which is useful.

Question about Maps

Hello, i wonder if there is any maps app that uses the Google Maps API but isn't Google Maps (as it's heavy and not battery friendly).
I use and like Here to drive, but it lack places to research as Google Maps is perfect on that.
