[MOD] Improve Synced Contacts Picture Resolution - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Here's a mod to improve the resolution of synced contact pictures, so no more pixelated pics :good: Now I have only tested this with exchange contacts as that is what I use but from what I read, Gmail saves it in a 96x96 format on their end, so this might not help too much if you use that but test and post if it does or not.
After applying this mod, you will need to either clear data on contacts storage or remove & readd the e-mail account that has your contacts so it imports them with the new resolution.

}
And for the devs, the mod is actually quite simple, decompile the ContactsProvider apk and mod these values in the values/integers.xml but please remember to give credit
Code:
<integer name="config_max_display_photo_dim">2048</integer>
<integer name="config_max_thumbnail_photo_dim">768</integer>
Flash in recovery

Thanks.

seems to be working well for me, pictures aren't perfect but still an improvement. Thanks!
edit: using gmail, and after looking closer, doesn't seem to have made a difference.
Since you are messing with the contacts app, can i direct you to this thread and see what you think??

Nice! Any chance this will make it to ht EG4T?

I don't see any difference with Google contacts.

As posted in the op, Gmail saves contacts at 96x96, you'll never make them look pretty until Google changes that. Your contacts would have to have a picture up on Google+ for higher resolution pictures.

and also life.contact beta widget
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008393
ok, installed, works.
it just seems to place random contacts there, or possibly in order of most contacted.
doesn't seem to display all contact pics. i have some that are assigned pics, and some timescape contact pics, but not all display for some reason.
but it's beta, and it works. and it's a pretty cool contact widget. will try it out for a few days to see how it effects battery.
oh, and timescape pics are blurry, but google/user assigned contact pics are clear, lol.
some more things about this widget...
it adds another sync service (life.episodes), which copies the phone numbers into another field of the contact, which when you view the contact, the numbers are all doubled. you'll see 2 numbers listed for each phone for every contact. kind of annoying.
I really hope they fix all of the contacts issues with the 2.3 update (doubling, blurry, etc).
Thx for testing & posting

it's actually not a bad widget. i found that if you edit the contact and add a pic that you took with your camera, or the google contact pic, it's not blurry on the widget. just timescape pics, which has something to do with the resolution that timescape uses i believe.
here's the small widget
here's the large widget
Nice app, but double numbers is so annoying. I keep checking for updates lol

uninstalled. we should offer them feedback so they can make the proper changes.
ok, couple of fixes...
to get rid of the duplicate entries.
from the homescreen:
menu > settings > accounts and sync > life.contacts
remove this account
to get missing contact pictures. set a contact picture under the google section of the contact. you don't have to select that image to be the contact image, you can still use the timescape image as the actual contact image in phonebook, but there has to be an image in the google contact.
Downloaded it from the Market and the widgets do not appear on WB's CM6.1.3. Anyone have the same issue?

I don't consider it to be a screw-up. "Contacts" is an icon that takes you to a separate app (Contacts), whereas the other two are tabs within the same app (Dialer). There should be a visual distinction on the Contacts icon (as opposed to tab). But to each his own.

its out of place and throws off the look of the tabs...samsung does that on like half the builds for the various galaxy s phones and everyone always corrects it
so id the vast majority of people prefer it uniform rather than the way it is on the charge
Dang. Just when I was getting used to their screw up and a fix comes along.
Yes - that's my big contribution to this thread.
Thanks for the fix!

How do you made???
Qurstion... I installed it but now my phone button (in apps and in my drawer) is grey and doesn't work. I can only get my phone/dial pad up if I go through contacts. How can I fix that?

Not to sound like a douche but why would you install something that's over a year old? Lol
Easiest fix is to dirty flash Tweaked.

Not douche sounding at all. It's a valid question. I was having issues installing tweaked 3.1 but finally got it. The ICS theme and contacts look so much better anyways. Thanks for the reply though.

Ban.
In other news, that dialer looks fantastic. I kinda miss the aosp gingerbread theme. Way too much blue these days.

Mail app and music app

Hello,
I switched from an iPhone and would never switch back, but I was shocked that the stock email app could not zoom out to view a whole HTML mail. First I thought it is a problem with my phone, but google shows me that this is on all phones. I tried kaiten mail, but it has the same problem and additionally an ugly UI. What do you use for your mail?
I use cyanogenmod 10 and it has the Apollo music player instead of the stock one, is it better than the stock or would you recommend the stock one, I assume play music it is called.
Thanks

I use MailDroid Pro. Works great. I don't use my phone for music- that's what my iPod is for!

Thanks,
but I still cant zoom out further than this:

Btw why is there no good looking email app for Android in holo, just ugly ones?

have you tried this one? I use stock gmail app but in changelog their say about pinch to zoom options, and it has a lot of positive comments
Thanks but sadly the same result, I can zoom in but not out to see the whole message, the same also in kaiten, the paid successor of k9.
Any other hint?
Thanks

Maybe you should wait for contribution from Sparrow team in stock Gmail app I suppose the stock app will change in near future.

I have a particular calendar need, looking for input

Ok so i need to setup appointments, these almost always happen 4 weeks apart. Would be nice to have an app that lets me set the repetition as 4 weeks. Google calendar on my computer does it, but i can't find a calendar on android with this option.
Here's to hoping somebody has seen this and can help me out, thanks
Try Business Calendar
I use that program a lot, it however doesn't suit this need
If you use Google Calendar it will allow you to pick the repeat intervals... it has an option to popup on your phone and/or email. Works great.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like a desktop version, to use the desktop version on my phone is clunky at best, and the mobile version doesn't have that option. So what I'm looking for is an app with those options.
Thanks
Touch calender does what you want and sync to your gmail calender.

Business calendar does do this. When you create your entry at the bottom select weekly. Under that there is a box that you can select every 4 week's plus an end date if needed.

Touch is a nice cal. Thanks for that.
And thanks for showing me how to do this in business cal. Makes sense now but i would've never figured that out

Texted photos are grainy

I've tried 3 different texting apps and they all have the same issue. The photo quality is worse than 1995. When I use WhatsApp or FB Messenger the photos are fine. It's just an MMS issue.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

Awesome! I know just what the OP is talking about. Going to fish about to see what other options exist instead of Textra, just because, this is Android, after all...

Try it.

I have been using Textra, actually. Not my first time using it. It's quite convenient, too.
