[Q] Install firmware update? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi guys,
I've never had a tablet before so this is all quite new to me. Someone posted a link in the main TF700 discussion thread about a firmware update that's available on the Asus website here: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+Infinity+TF700T&p=20&s=16
I've downloaded the zip file but amn't sure how to install it. Do I just need to extract the contents to a specific folder? After extracting to a newly made folder I didn't see any 'readme' or self extracting file so I'm at a bit of a loss.
Apologies for the probably stupid question! I'd appreciate any help
Thanks!
Phil

If it's anything like installing updates on a phone...you have to go into stock recovery. Look up how to get to it on the Prime if you can't find it on the Infinity, I'm sure it's similar.

On which firmware version are you? As this is a "TW" firmware version and you probably have a "WW" version, I'd NOT flash this one and wait a few days.

Ok cheers man. Yea I'm on WW_epad-9.4.5.21 so I guess its not a good idea to install TW_epad-9.4.5.22
There's an option in settings to check for firmware update, so I'm assuming they're made available OTA when ready. Probably a safer bet to wait on that!

Requesting stock ROM + apps

I deleted a bunch of stuff with TB thinking when I factory reset I would get it all back! The first thing I've noticed so far is that when I go to Settings > Accounts & sync, Settings FCs with the message "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped". I don't think I messed anything else up...
Therefore I'm requesting the stock ROM, to flash and start fresh. Also, I've found some dumps with the stock apks, but if anyone knows which ones will get my 'Accounts & sync' working again, that would be very helpful!
I am also wondering if anyone has stock from. I forgot to backup my stock from..

I exchanged the tf300t today for a brand new one. I'm willing to provide a stock ROM, or at least dump the system, if someone can teach me how.
You can download the OTAs from Asus' website, just extract once and flash in CWM.

Well I am guessing its just a normal backup from cwm?.. Anyone want to chime in.
Is there a link to the specific location on Asus website.

Very Simple
Yes very simple. You have to go back to Seanz Rom page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750861
Scroll Down until you see the ADD-ONS and download the Bloatware Re-ADD Zip. Then flash this file in CWM or TWRP and you will have ur original ASUS apps back.
Oooh thank u very much, didnt saw that, .. it works

I applaud your unbridled optimism Sir.
ASUS hinted at this yesterday on FB. Their post "When Mr. Jellybean is in the office, it means something good is coming."

I've learned from the TF101 ICS update - be careful what you wish for!!! For those that don't know, my (and others) TF101 has basically become very un-reliable since they introduced ICS.
While I truly *hope* we don't have such issues with the Jelly Bean upgrade, I certainly don't have a lot of confidence in Asus at this point.
I just hope that they don't rush it and test it properly before releasing it and forcing the upgrade on us (which is exactly what they did with the ICS update on the TF101).
I do know that my TF700 has some of the same ICS issues that the TF101 had (OpenGL out of memory errors, for example, which causes your launcher to go "blank")....

It looks like they are using 3.x.x kernel on JB, someone can confirm this?

Great! Very exciting news to wake up to!
When Firmware actually starts dropping DON'T FORGET TO!!
*Side load your FLASH PLAYER. If you want flash. It will no longer show up in the Playstore any longer
*Revert back whatever modding/altering to system files just in case Rooters. Only if you want your OTAS to actually complete. Or if running a custom rom it wouldn't work anyways as you already know.
*Don't forget to backup your Root with Voodoo Ota Rootkeeper! You will definitely lose root if you don't
Time to obsessively check every 5 minutes for the update!!!

*sighs* I want all my devices to run Jellybean today, here is to hoping it will happen.
As I'd normally recommend rooting myself, I don't think it's necessary in this case. Why not just install .apk with Flash after allowing unknown sources? I believe it should suffice, although I don't know if it's any different with the JB system of permissions.
No need to root to install Flash on Jelly Bean. At least not on the Nexus 7.

I can confirm - my father just bought a Nexus 7 - I emailed the Flash app to him and he was able to install it and it worked without any rooting or anything.
He used Boat Browser (per my recommendation) - not sure about other browsers, but I assume it work with all expect for Chrome, of course...

To everyone who wants flash, the easy way is to place the apk somewhere on Dropbox/Google Drive/Physical medium and install it from there, also since this week Adobe Flash Player is not available in the Play Store. http://www.pcworld.com/article/260901/android_flash_player_rip_how_to_get_it_now_that_its_gone.html

Everyone remember to backup the files created by titanium backup themselves to a removable SD card or your PC.
As for JB, I am not sure we can expect it for the TF700 right away ... the TF300 is so similar to the nexus 7, I'm sure they only slightly modified their nexus 7 kernel.
Is it just me or does anyone else thinks it's wrong that Asus updated their cheap tablet before their flagship?

No, the tf300 probably just happened to be ready first. It would silly to make all of the tf300 wait a few days just because the tf700 wants it first lol

JB OTA Update with Rooted TF300T

Hey ppl,
I got the update but after finished downloading an error appeared: Update failed, restoring conf to last version blah blah.
I rebooted the device but it says there's no longer an update available for my device.
My Tf300t is Rooted, i only disabled some system apps and removed the original Browser, could that be the problem?
Any ideas? Thanks!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
if you removed any system apps it won't update. Also if you are using a modded build.prop it won't update. You need to restore the browser

Thanks for your reply jgaf.
It seems you're right, since I unrooted with Voodoo OTA Root Keeper, but still can't get the update.
How can I restore original apps (only Browser as far as I remember) without a factory reset?
Thanks!

I don't think you can, unless you made a backup of the stock browser using Titanium Backup or something.
That's why you should never fully delete system apps, always make a backup of them or freeze them.
On the topic of root access.. updated my TF300T to Jelly Bean... tried restoring root using Voodoo OTA Root Keeper. It says restored but I don't appear to have root access when using Lucky Patcher or any other app. Any ideas?
I have the original build prop, on the ww version, but am traveling in the US, and am not getting the ota. . Anyone have a suggestion on if/how I could make this work?

You need that someone still on ics pulls the browser apk from /system/app the you will have to push it to the same directory and reboot. That should reinstall it. NOTE factory reset wont restore deleted apps.

While it is true that they log your attempts at installing updates (you can enter your MAC into their system, I don't remember where, and it shows all of your updates - I've done it) they don't truly block future attempts after a failure. All you have to do is open up settings, apps, all, and clear the data on the DMClient app (I believe, I'm trying to confirm that's what it was). Tried it after a failed .30 update and it let me download it again.

Replace the modified build.prop with your back-up of the original file or it definitely won't update.

Updated ROM to version .30 with firmware update for the camera. The bootanimation is simpler, doesn't have the second animated and discoloured phase of the Asus logo.
IIRC when the update arrived to my XOOM for Jellybean there was small update, the bootloader I think, before the big one dropped. Here's hoping JB drops soon!
Yeah, not Jelly Bean
Well that was a big let down. Thought it would be Jelly.

[EDIT] YMMV With this thing, I can't get it to install, fails with a red triangle. I'm only rooted, not unlocked so I'm not sure what's up

You should search for the update in "cache" folder in sdcard root, but you will not find it if you already applied the update so you have to download the OTA but not apply it.Usually the file is called "dlpkg" or "dlpkgfile"...so look for /cache/dlpkg.
Seems like gps version is updated too..And my dock version changed from tf201-dock-0207 to dock-ec20n-0207. Hmmm...

Yeah, mine worked eventually. What I ended up having to do was pull the original build.prop out of the last updates blob, since just removing what I added wasn't enough. If you didn't make a backup of it, you'll likely have to do the same, or I could upload the stock file
