Hi guys and gals. I'm a complete newb when it comes to tinkering with Android, I have a little experience with iProducts as I have mucked around with them for a while. Jailbreaking an iProduct is piss easy compared to this!
I have just unlocked & flashed my Xoom with JWTylers One click method here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011196
All works well. In the 'about' section it showed the Tiamat kernel to be 1.1.6, or something like that. I also downloaded Rom Manager and flashed CWR through it. What I wanted to achieve was external sdcard functionality, so I tried reflashing with this step to 1.3.1 ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13036180&postcount=497
Worked a peach.
So, I did everything step by step, and created a new folder called 'sdcard2' in the sdcard directory. After finishing everything I downloaded the 1.3.2 zip and moved it from downloads to sdcard2 folder with Root Explorer? Ran the CWR recovery and when I go to press the flash zip from sdcard I get an error: E: Cant mount /sdcard".
I dont have an sdcard in the slot while I'm doing this, so, I don't know if this is the cause.
Any help to explaining this would be great!
Hey, just flash the new Timat kernal 1.4.0 and download auto mount from the market and your set!

Hi, thx for your reply. Can I just download the file directly to'my downloads folder on my Xoom, like I did in the second link I pasted in my post, and follow those steps? I also mentioned that I don't have an sdcard inserted. Would this make any difference as to why I'm getting the error message in CWR?

You need an sd card, that is probably why you got the error.

Appreciate your help. I'll be getting my sdcard soon, I hope it works.
I also did download an auto mount program from market. What is it exactly suppose to do? It had one option at the top to tick which was to auto mount, and that was it. I suppose it runs in the background doing it's thing?
OK. I got the sdcard working, I flashed to 1.3.2.
I can transfer stuff onto my sdcard2 within my xoom and it will show when i insert the card into my PC. It won't work the other way around though. I can't get the files to show up in root explorer, or with any media player even if its a video file. Why is that? Is there a work around?
All help appreciated.

You have to reboot the xoom for them to show up.

hahaaaa....
That was the simplest advice I could've ever received in my life!
Thanks again.
XDA developers, Kejar, nor I are responsible for anything you do to your phone so as always use with care
For those of you using a custom kernel with Build EE4 to gain root and have run into the Write protection pop up when trying to transfer files to your sdcard.
sdcard patch:
simply download below
place on sdcard
and flash using clockwork
All credit to Kejar , so please remember to thank him

I think his username is kejar, BTW.

After first running this patch, the first time I plugged it in the usb storage option popped up, but then never came up again. I ended up having to go into Setting>USB Settings while the phone was unplugged and changing it to "Ask on Connection" and it works perfectly. When the "Mass Storage" Option is selected, Windows recognizes the phone as a cd rom. Thanks for all your work DroidXCon, Kejar, and everyone else.
How to Save it on SD when Its readonly
If the SD card is in read only mode, then how can I save the zip on sd card? Also the usb is not recognized because iof it being a read only mode

I would suggest putting the file on the SDcard before you update or pull the sdcard out and use a micro USB card reader to put it on.

You can unmount the SDCard and push the file to the SDCard via adb. The SDCard is only read-only when it is mounted as mass storage. I have a feeling that this change is going to cause a few short-term issues with custom kernels at some point, but only time will tell.
BTW - TY to kejar & DroidXcon, regardless of how easy a fix is or isn't they still deserve all the props and I will gladly donate the macchiatos to the guys, consider it done
imnuts, I know you are working on an update to your debloated ROM, likely built off of EE4, will you be using a custom kernel in yours or stock until we know if it will cause issues?

My card wasn't really read only, just not accessible via usb. I just downloaded the file via my DC browser and it saved to the card no problem
Orrrr. Just send the download link to your phone via email or whatever method you choose. Then use your supa fast 4G facemelter to download the file on your phone and then go into CWM and flash it.
Quick (noob) Question. When going to apply this patch in CWM, do you use the "apply patch option" or "zip to apply". Literally popped my rooting cherry an hour ago. Everything works besides SD Card being Read Only Status. Thanks in advance.
1) download the sdcard fix from here and rename the file to update.zip
2) place update.zip in the adb platforms tools directory, where the adb command exits.
3) with USB mass storage off, I used ADB shell to push the file from the host computer to the Charge into the root folder of the SD card, /sdcard
(this assumes you don't have any file named update.zip already in the root of your sdcard)
adb devices
adb push update.zip /sdcard
adb reboot recovery
4) CWR should run and now you use the menu to apply update.zip.
Thanks OP.
Now I'm experiencing something slightly different...and this fix isn't helping.
Since the day I got the charge I've had issues writing to it in windows, wasnt til yesterday I started to really question more so why...thinking it was just a cheap card going bad.
I rooted the phone the day I got it, everything worked fine except being able to write to the sd card when mounted. Now I wasnt getting write protection, I was more so getting windows locking up, and things of that nature (thinking bad card right).
Yesterday I unrooted, and updated to ee4. it does the auto mount thing now, I mounted and was able to transfer 200 and some songs to the card, no issues.
Rooted late last night now running the debloated ee4, with pb&j kernel (voodoo enabled) and tried to move some icons over and unzip them, and it failed again, with io errors in the logs...
Anyone have any thoughts on this one...
I was able to just plug my microSD card into a card reader to my laptop, and drop the zip file in there. booted into CWR and flashed the update. Worked like a charm. Thanks!!!
My way of testing was to take a screenshot. and verify that it was in the screencapture directory.
Cheers!
No more root
So I installed cwr w Odin, then pb andj kernal w car and the fix w cwr and rebooted. Checkedrootchecker and o was root checked. Then I flashed debloated eel and it worked but now I have no root access. Root heck says busy box is installed correctly but it says "su binary not found in the system declared path??
Thanks

Hmmm, strange. Try reflashing PBJ. If that doesn't work, try flashing GummyCharged and see if that helps?
Isn't that another rom? Don't I have to be rooted first?
Im running cm10 unofficial rom and I downloaded a LCD resolution thing and changed it and clicked reboot it wouldn't reboot so I tried reflashing my rom the thing is my rom isn't on the sd card anymore since I deleted it, please help!!!!
Can I get another sd card and put the rom on there, transfer to my phone and flash the rom and then turn off phone and put my old sd card?
^ I don't think I can do the above since that means I have to actually get into my phone to download Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Please help, I'm using cm10 rom and I downloaded a lcd resolution app, it reboot my phone but it wouldn't load, now I have to flash the rom again so that I
can use my phone again, but my rom isn't on the sd card, what do I do?
I cleared dlavik cache, cache, and mount sd card or something like that. Help please!
Instead of making many threads for each of your problems, you should just make one and list all your problems there.
You should always understand the process before you begin in the first place.
You can keep your old sdcard. Just boot into recovery, mount usb storage, copy your rom from the computer to the sdcard, unmount usb storage, and flash the rom.

Do you mean mount usb storage from advanced? When I plug in my phone to pc, it says device driver not installed etc.
But the thing is I was just testing and when I click install zip from sd card, I don't see my sdcard/ folders because I think I somehow wiped my sd card? Not sure.
And I also get E: Bad boot message "recovery"
Help! It's my sister's phone.

Along with my other post above, I got the mount usb storage to work, but I need more space to put my rom in. I remember there was 162mb
before I used the backup function from clockworkmod recovery, I can delete the recovery img to free up all the 162mb that it used, but I don't know the location cwm saved the backup, where is it? so i can delete it

Please do some research before diving into something like this. Look under the clockworkmod folder on your sdcard.

As sweetnsour has mentioned, please search as everything you are posting in this thread has been beaten to death in these forums. We here at XDA insist on using the sites search function, with numerous tries, before creating threads. Since you are new here, and obviously using a P500 or variant, I'd like to point you to the LG Optimus One FAQ. sweetnsour also owns a rather informative thread that you may find of interest as well.
Okay, I fixed it, thank you very much sweetnsour.
I now have a problem, a friend of mine texted me and their number isn't saved, how do i save it from a text message instead of manually adding to contact?

I don't see that
You should also be able to save to message senders info by long pressing on the message in the message list and selecting Add to Contacts. This is going to vary slightly between Android versions and messaging apps.
For all the statements you quoted, it is what it is. We've both been around here for a while. I myself have answered these questions numerous times in various threads. So I've been trying and trying to change MTP to a UMS all day, I've finally figured out how to get my SD card to change to UMS which is cool but I want my internal memory to show up as well. I need to back up my entire internal memory, I also don't have enough space to move everything over to my SD card.
Now, the reason why I don't want to use MTP is because it transfers way to slow and for some reason a lot of folders and files are not showing up when connected to my PC but I could see them fine on the phone with root explorer or something similar.
Any ideas on how to get all drives to work as UMS or get all my files to show up using MTP.
kinda getting fed up already researching it.
nevermind i just used FTP :-/
UMS on JB?
Hey Skeltergrave,
You managed to activate UMS on Jelly Bean? I thought it was not possible, could you share how you did it? I want to connect my phone to my stereo and it's just not possible without UMS!
Also did you did this on stock rom? Or some custom rom?
Thanks in advance!

Hey!
I did it on the stock Rom, but it only works for the SD Card. You could try it if you'd like. I'm not sure if it'll work for any other device then a PC but it's worth a shot. I followed this tutorial for the Atrix HD.
Since your not going to use it for your computer I don't think you'll have to follow the PC instructions.

Since i cant yet post in the actual ROM thread i Though i would post here.
Ever since i flashed this ROM, my phone has created a copy of my drive and i can seem to access the original drive without going into the recovery.
It named the emulated drive 0.
When i try and system restore in order to do a clean flash, files carry over from the emulated drive and i cant figure out how to get rid of it. If anyone can help me i would appreciate it.

only problem is i cant remove the data from the initial drive so i have like 3 gigs left of storage when i could have the full 12 give or take.
I'd format the partitions.... not just wipe; then reflash.

Learning is knowledge. Mind you, the custom recoveries have newer versions so that part is the only thing that needs updating to today's standards.
So if I go to download the latest twrp (2.3.6.1) do I need to move it to the original SD and flash it from there? If that is the case I have no idea where the original one is. I can't find it in root explorer.

If you're on JB AOSP, then your downloads folder is in /0/sdcard/downloads OR /sdcard0/downloads. Basically, start at /mnt OR /storage and choose "sdcard0" or "sdcard" as the phone interchangeably uses both to refer to internal storage. I'm used to using an IMG file for recoveries, if you don't mind my asking where did you find this TWRP zip from?

considering i cant post links yet i wont be able to link it too you but it was from the recovery thread in the dev forum.
I can get to that location the "/storage" but when im there i see "/emulated, /sdcard0, /sdcard1, /usbdisk1" .
when i open up /sdcard1 i see nothing and same with /usbdisk0.
/emulated has /0 and /legacy and both of them are identical inside.
but actually as im typing i just found the original sd card.
The path is /mnt/shell/emulated. so i guess thats some progress lol.
Glad you found that. It shouldn't matter, but what file manager are you using? Have you tried connecting to your computer and flipping through everything that way to find it? Ive found that to be a little less convoluted; knowledge is power.
