[Q] Trying to read SIM cards from old phones, help? - General Questions and Answers

So I've got pretty much every old phone I've ever owned and they've all used SIM cards ever since I was on Cingular. I was thinking it would be neat if I could read some old numbers or just see what other data they have on them. Bought a multi-format card reader and the operating systems (Ubuntu and Windows 7) seem to detect it just fine. However I can't actually seem to be able to read any of the cards. It doesn't help that it came with no software or instructions.
I don't care what I have to do to get it to work, I just have no idea how and was hoping someone with more experience can point me (and hopefully other lost people) in the right direction.

Bump, anybody, please?
I searched the forum and all I can find are issues with getting specific phones to read them. Google was no help either just giving me links to webstores and wiki with no real information. Plz halp 4 I R A N00B!

Some help, please

Hi, I am new to this forum and need some help. I recently purchased an HTC fuze from At&t and need some help getting the right ROM to get everything running well. I have read there are some out there that will enable free gps, fix the sensitivity settings and also get rid of all the junk that At&t loads it with (would like to keep opera, however, and I will need a good music player that can recognize the micro sd all the time). Kind of looking for the "best" setup before I load all my contacts and stuff. I tried searching this site for info, but there are so many threads on the issue I can't figure out what solution is best for me. I am not terrible with computers, but nor am I up to snuff with the people on this site, so any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time for helping a noob!

Hi,
We all had to learn it
General info here
ROMs etc... here
Dirk
Not massively useful advice but the best i can suggest is to download several variations on the ROMs and try each one for a week or so to see if it "pushes your buttons". Took me eight ROMs over 6 months to find my current one and even then i don't gaurantee it will survive.
If you search on here for PIMBackup it will make the restoring of contacts and all messages a lot less painful.
Sorry fixed

SciPhone i9

I have the ATT Tilt 2 (Touch Pro 2) it works well, and kudos to all the hard working developers here at XDA, and other sites. Now that thats out of the way here is my question, problem. My brother gave me a Sciphone i9 for my birthday this year and said "here keep it see what you can do with it." Now I've heard that it is possible to change the os and firmware of it to winmo, iphone or even android. I've been searching threads and post to find any information on how to do this and have come up empty. So does anyone have any insight on this iclone it has dual sim cards. I've inserted my ATT sim into it and it works fine, I would like to use winmo or better os than the java thats on it. Hit me up if you can help a semi newbie.

Ipaq 116?

Hello guys,
I am new here at XDA, I dig out this forum for two days allong trying to find any information or resources to the Ipaq 116.
This PDA was given to me by a friend that don't even remember that he had it, when he found he gave it to me before move to another State. So I am here with this old new gadget without manuals or even basic CD. And even in this situation I am a little excited to do things with it.
As I said before, I already dig out this forum trying to find any information to this specific model but I had no success, even on the HP site they give no downloads, informations or any other stuff about this one.
Apparently this specific model, 116, is exactly like other models as the 114 (but with a largem rom, 256 vs 64) So, since I am really a n00b with PDAs I am here asking and calling people that have it, or had it in the past and still keep good memory (and or files) for it.
There's any chance to find a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM to upgrade this model? Right now the ROM date is "04-07-2008" and the revision number is the v1.01.03.
Does Android would work on it? If yes where should I start?
My point is to try use it the best way I can, so far I was able to find some ebook readers (that don't work very good) and the updated application to it's TodayPanel.
Any kind of information would be appreciated. I know that is couple years old gadget but it is working fine and can be usefull to me, so, any contact would be appreciated.
Just a information. I am not sure that this is windows mobile 6, i am just replicating the info that was on the chart. As I see, the OS version is the 5.2 so, I have another "problem".

Cubot C9+ OS Options

Hi there, firstly I hope I'm posting in the correct place but if I'm not please accept my sincerest preemptive apologies and feel free too relocate me to the appropriate thread.
Here's my saga, I recently got a Cubot C9+, it's a genuinely good phone which I'm quite happy with however it's not without problems. It came with Android 4.2.2 installed, after getting it I ran the manufacturers update however a lot of my SMS messages are not getting to me, I have tried everything including new sim, alternative SMS apps etc and still no joy at all. On top of that it is a little laggy, I'm wondering if theres any alternative Operating Systems I can use on it? I found some fantastic roms for my old Xperia X8 and X10 mini pro but there doesn't seem to be much for this phone, I wouldnt mind downgrading to an older operating system either. I would prefer not to have to mess about with the firmware if possible as I managed to brick a phone or two in my past and just dont have money for another one right now.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated and again sorry if I have posted in the wrong place.
Many thanks
-Larry
