When Will TF300 Get Jelly Bean? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im sorry if this has already been asked but I am on the fence of buying a tablet for work and ive narrowed it down to the Nexus 7 and the TF300. Im 99.9% sure I am going to be buying the TF300 ($100 more than the 16GB N7, but it has 2x the memory, 10", mHDMI out, and sdCard, no brainer). However I was wondering how the updates are from ASUS and when we could expect Jelly Bean?

Asus tends to be on top of things when it comes to updates in a timely manner. Although I wouldn't base your decision soley on jelly bean. As with any android version update, there are going to be bugs and app compatibility issues that has to be ironed out at first. Then android manufacturers have to tweak the source code and kernels to work with their roms. Then they have to iron out the bugs then. Any products of 2012 will most likely see jelly bean eventually. Newest isn't always the best. Especially when it comes to OS and software.

The N7 will be the priority for the short term. Once sales tail off then they can focus on the T700. They'll get to us promptly but not a priority. Yes, just IMO....

I understand the hype with jellybean. But when did ICS become an old outdated OS?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium

put it this way
ICS is to JB what Vista was to Win7
(on most devices)
and that is the problem with Android, too many versions out at the same time that work perfectly well on the devices they are installed on

As soon as I loaded it on my Galaxy Nexus.
ICS is great, but JB is waayyyy better, imo.

I would think that since the Nexus 7 was built by Asus that they would have a leg up on getting updates out. Especially since they stick close to vanilla on their roms

What's replacing flash?

Nothing is replacing Flash. Flash doesn't need to be replaced. It needs to die and be forgotten. If your favorite websites still use Flash instead of proper HTML5, they need to get with the times and dump the resource- and bandwidth-hogging abomination known as Adobe Flash. E-mail them, and let them know that they need to update their $#!t.

I'm new here and an android newbee. I purchased an Asus tf300t a few day ago and have been reading up on all the cool ways it can be modded.
I've already rooted and overclocked it.
Is there a way that I can install JB on it as it's already rooted?

Yea when it comes out u will be able to update with no problem...or u could just flash a 4.1 Rom

Once rooted, can it be upgraded via the official method (from Asus)? I just bought TF300 and waiting for it in the mail, so excited

Yes, a rooted TF300T can still receive OTAs. But you may lose root access after applying it, so use VooDoo OTA RootKeeper to backup.

I followed all the instruction and tried to flash the CM10 Jelly Bean update but got Status 7 errors twice and had to restore my backup twice...

ICS OTA Update

Hi,
Earlier today I restored my Desire S to factory settings, expecting to receive the OTA update to ISC. However, although the update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 appeared, an update to ICS did not. How can I get the OTA update? My phone is unbranded.
Thanks in advance
That's because the update hasn't been released...yet.
Ah, OK. I was under the impression that it was released in June/July - that's what HTC's update timetable said, wasn't it?
Sent from my Nexus 7
Yep but it's been forwarded to sometime towards the end of this month. It will also depend on your carrier. If you want to be first to receive it your best bet will be through a custom ROM
OK, thanks for the information. I know I could use a custom ROM, but after I nearly bricked my phone attempting to port a Jelly Bean ROM from the Galaxy Nexus, I thought I should maybe go back to stock, for the time being at least. Once the Jelly Bean ROMs become more stable, I'll probably root again and get one of those.
Also, I've heard some people say that once I upgrade to ICS with HTC, I won't be able to root/S-OFF again. Is this true? If it is, I probably won't bother getting the OTA to ICS.
You attempted to port the JB ROM? Man if have that kind if skill, is it hard for you to root and install a ROM?
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
Have you tried using CM10? It is in alpha stage but it is pretty stable and most features work. Also it is super quick and smooth
Sent from my Desire S using xda app-developers app
No, actually, it isn't to hard for me to root my phone and run a custom ROM. I've been running custom ROMs on my Desire S for the best part of a year now.
@mzr92 No, I haven't tried Cyanogenmod 10. Since it was in alpha stage, I wasn't sure how stable it was. I might just try that out. Thanks for the suggestion.

[Q] Rooting, Most stable Jellybean rom and more questions

Hey everyone, I am not really familiar with rooting tablets, only phones.
A year ago, or something I rooted my Desire z, and was really happy with everything and the new features and ROM's I could flash.
But, how can you root an tablet?
And also, where could I find a tutorial on rooting the Asus TF101 ?
And after that, I was wondering what the most stable jellybean ROM is, with the most features working, I only use it for surfing the web, using apps, playing games and not really anything more than that, so if for example the radio does not work, I don't really mind.
As long as it's stable, and faster than stock!
My last question : Is it smart to root a tablet? Because phone's are sometimes out-dated, and you can root them and update the software with a custom ROM, but do tablets really depend on this software ? Or is it just rootable and still everything inside the tablet (hardware) works?
Regards!

So they are actually supporting rooting your device?
PS: Do you have any link to a tutorial, about rooting :fingers-crossed:
Also one more question : when rooting tablets, is there the same difference as with phones ? S-off, etc?
Regards
Anyone could help me out, please?
Kind regards
I don't remember which method I used for rooting (it was sooo long ago ). But check this thread out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688447.
As for JB rom, I recommend Team EOS 3, it's super smooth and works great! I also use TWRP recovery.
I used the same root method as mentioned above and it was very easy to do. Follow instructions. If I remember correctly you will have to check which model you have. Should be on a sticker near the connector port on the bottom. As for jelly bean I have never tried. But loving Revolver ICS.
Good Luck

For root try PERI tool or 1click rooting tools, I'm using the AOSP JB rom , pretty smooth so far.

As mentioned before there are many ways to root the tablet, and they are all great.
About JB ROMs, I tried them all and they are pretty much stable and even faster the ICS ROMs. I found Team EOS to be the most stable and battery friendly and I'm currently using their latest build(72) which is just great!

[Q] OPINION: Best ICS Rom for TF700T?

So I'm hesitant to update to JB (waiting for the official release, lovingly tweaked by our community) so I'm sticking with ICS for the time being. On my Transformer Prime I was running AndroWook and loved it, but no such rom for the Infinity.
So, in your valued opinion, what would you say is the best ICS rom and why?

There sorta is only one, Zeusrom.
We're all waiting on ASUS to release JB so we can get CM10 and AOKP going.

Well, you've still got Maniacs ROM, 9.4.5.26 with Tweaks, and a couple others that are stock with a few perks. Any thoughts on those?

You are sort of answering your own question... Maniacs hasn't seen an update in awhile, the others are stock with a couple perks. Zeus is close to what Androwook offered, though definitely not as heavily modified due to the slower pre-JB development growth of the Infinity community.

[Q] Is the official Jelly Bean update is coming to Asian atrix 2?

Did some one know that Is the official Jelly Bean update is coming to Asian atrix 2?
As from the China leak version Motorola is developing the jb romantic for atrix 2. Will it loch ota update soon.
Samsung is updating galaxy s 2, and even galaxy ace 2 to jb. Our phone is definitely way better than ace 2.
Is someone have any idea about ota jb update.
Don't think so.

It says:
"This offer is currently available in the United States. We plan to roll out the program to *OTHER COUNTRIES OVER TIME, so stay tuned for more news."
I still think that means no. I haven't seen anything that would indicate otherwise. However, over in the development section there is Paranoid Android, Magic Mod, CM10, and CM10.1. That's not to mention two JB leaks. You should try any/all of those if you haven't already. In my opinion, the devs here will take far better care of you than Motorola will.

I don't believe in motorola anymore. So, we are not getting that promotion in other countries.
Trading the product is costing more for Motorola hence instead of trading it might think to develop jb for other countries cost less.

Even after conforming that atrix 4G is not even updating to ICS. Still ICS rom is under soak testing. Definitely Motorola is rethinking about update their device.
Well, in whatever way I look at it, Motorola has been true to its word (if only after becoming Googlerola)
As per Google Diktat, they have to provide SW updates for 18 months. They leaked and released ICS and JB now. If you talk about Sammy, then, please note that the 'flagship' Galaxy S2 was only just updated to Jellybean (officially), the S Advance shipped with GB on launch when Jellybean, or atleast ICS was the norm.
Also, see the quality of the update provided. I was appalled to see Jelly bean namesake updates on many a handset, with no optimization as such. This 'Leak' Motorola Jellybean is as good as an official version in my books.Install it, and experience the fluid interface is all I suggest.
Even from when motorola is bought by google we are getting updates with stock ui as in nexus and so I think google is providing updates and hope we get official jb ota

General stuttering and lagginess

I just got this tablet and am running Stock 4.1.1 android. I have unlocked and root my device. Although I have noticed that occasionally the tablet stutters or is a little laggy. Coming from my Nexus 4 I do not have no lag or stutter issues.
Is the Nexus 4 really that much faster?
Does the 4.2.1 update fix the lag on the tf300?
Is the stock ROM(4.1.1) just not optimized and would go to a custom ROM fix or help with the lag?
I assumed that the tegra 3 would give similar performance to what I get with my Nexus 4, which is very quick and pretty much never has any stutter or lag issue, but maybe the Nexus 4 is really that much faster. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've read that performing a factory reset has fixed this issue for some people. Is there any issues with performing a factory reset on an unlocked rooted tf300t? Would I have to reroot the tablet?

CleanROM is a good choice because it's regularly updated and based off stock Asus firmware. However, when I used to use it in the past there were issues with using custom high-performance kernels cause it broke the ability to use my front camera (not good :thumbdown. So now I'm using CM10.1, on the official nightlies and its the best experience so far.. latest stock 4.2.2 android, full dock support and everything works as intended. Plus, I think there's been a performance kernel for CM10.1 released in the dev section just recently. Take a look!
