Yeah, I had working MIUI v4 a couple times. But my PC fried, and I need a new Job to fix it. Check out the other MIUI thread in general. It's not hard to do, not one bit. Just need some Coffee, and free time.

How do you get MIUI b4 on your device do you have to be rooted?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
You need to be S-Off, or S-On(u). I recommend S-Off as you don't need to fastboot the boot.img.

You have to be rooted to do any of the following:
Flash a new radio (S-OFF only)
Flash a custom ROM
Flash a theme
Flash a mod
Flash a tweak
Edit all files on the phone.
Change boot animations
Have a custom splash screen
Have one of the most unique phones taylored to your likeing.
Pretty much everything cool is for rooted users.

You can root.
Start by going to the HTC Unlock Tool website
1) Set up ADB and Fastboot
2) Unlock your bootloader via the HTC Unlock tool
3) Fastboot flash Clockwork Mod Recovery
4) Get the Superuser zip file and copy it to your SD card
5) Use CWM to flash the Superuser zip file
6) Boot up phone, run Superuser.
You are now rooted with an unlocked bootloader. You are still S-On, so you will need to flash the boot images separately from the rest of the ROM.
If you want to go S-Off, you can try the Juopunutbear.
Also, see this thread.
XMC just posted an ICS MIUI ROM.

I doubt it. Check out the stickies for root and s-off. The compendium is a useful thread. Follow the instructions for HTC unlock, then push super user via adb then install rom manager to flash CWM. A little reading will get you started.

Read a bit. About different phones, too.
Understand the concept.

If your bootloader is unlocked you have to flash the boot IMG separate.

Since it is your first time, I would highly suggest making full nandroid backup of you phone and saving the file elsewhere. So that is something goes horribly wrong you can always revert. RomManager can do the backup I believe, though I use Titanium Backup Pro.

You need adb installed on your computer and phone should be in bootloader and plugged into computer via usb.
Place the recovery (let's call it recovery.img) in the fastboot folder in adb.
Then, in a command prompt navigate to the adb directory on your sd card. For instance, on my computer I have the simple adb install, so I would type
cd C:\adb
fastboot flash recovery.img
I have adb set up on my computer and I place the file in the same folder as fastboot and rename it to recovery.img then I open my command prompt in that window so its already where it needs to be and the I boot my phone into fastboot via adb and I type in the command that's suppose to flash it but it always tells me error unable to load am I missing a step? Do I need it on my SD card? It's driving me crazy I was unable to downgrade bc of this problem to

Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known file types" disabled in windows folder settings. It's possible the name of the file is actually recovery.img.img so you're directing adb to flash a filename that doesn't exist.

Can anyone make the root for(4.0.4) or I must go again to stock(4.0.3) to root my device and flash a rom?

You have to unlock your bootloader and then flash TWRP with fastboot. Then you can flash the supersu bineries. Thatstge way I rooted mine.

3. By PC opened the bat. file from superboot r1.zip(bootloader mode)
No supersu

I have AOKP on my att HTC. I already flashed the boot IMG manually, if I want to try out CM10 do I have to flash the boot IMG of cm10 again? Also when updating the same ROM is this neccesary again?
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
If you are on hboot 1.14, yes you should flash the boot IMG every time you flash a new ROM. Not technically necessary for a ROM update but good to do just in case.
You can always just S-OFF though, then you don't need to worry about it.

QBking said on his video that getting S off can brick your phone so I am a little weary.

It is actually a very simple process. All I did was copy and paste the commands from the facepalm method. Worked like a charm. Makes flashing a whole lot easier.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
The only issue i had while getting s-off was the phone being "offline" but a simple unplug and replug fixed that. It was a simple process overall
sent from my jellybammed one x
I would say the bigger risk is not understanding what s-off is actually doing. Because there's no security checks, if you don't know what you're doing you can easily brick flashing the wrong thing. If you're smart about it, take your time and know what it is your flashing, you shouldn't have any problems.

Now that we have the exploit to unlock the bootloader on 3.18, I thought I would give you the run down on what to expect.
The first thing that you need to know is that your hboot version will not allow you to flash custom roms properly. You will have to manually flash the boot image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136172 . Flashing roms without doing this manually requires a method called S-Off in witch you remove security: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071 If you are thinking about flashing aosp based roms you will have to s-off "FIRST" and downgrade your touch screen for them to work properly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159863
Hopefully this will eliminate some confusion and help you on your way.

Go here : [ROOT] HTC One X AT&T 3.18
I have been unlocked and have superCID, when trying to flash custom recovery via the fast boot it seems to install fine but when i reboot into recovery the recovery is blank any ideas? What are the steps i should properly take to gain Root,s-off etc. Any assistance would be aprpeciated.
Did you unlock bootloader via HTC dev?

Yes sir cid is 11111 via fastboot auth

What I am asking is if you went to the HTC dev site and received an unlock token to unlock the boot loader after gaining temp root. If so you can download goo manager from play store search for twrp and it will install it for you. Make sure you stay with 2.3..... 2.4 has issues wiping on our phones.

You will also need to install super user.

you need to hold the volume down button and power. once you get into the bootscreen choose recovery. This will load up TWRP. Once your in you can gain SU by going to advanced and fixing permissions I believe. Also note when installing custom roms you must do a complete data wipe/cache/dalvik/system or you might have boot loops or no boot at all.
You gain such by flashing su in recovery.

hello everybody! ive had a iphone for about 2 months now and couldnt take it anymore so i just bought a htc one s! i want to root it but i want to make sure i know everything that need to be done. i see the videos and the step by step processes but i have a few questions. every tutorial i see looks to be done on ics. i bought the phone and it was already on android 4.1.1. do the tutorials still apply? also when i plug my phone into my laptop it doesnt have the charge only/ sd mount (or whatever its says) like it does on ics version....it just says usb connected and wen i tap that it goes into hotspot and tethering options. it is a htc one s S4 so can someone please help me? thanks
You can still unlock boot loader the same way. To get s-off go through the development section till you find moonshine s-off

No you don'tHAVE to do it. All you have to do is unlock boot loader. S-off just allows you to flash whenever you want. If your s-on you have to flash the boot.IMG from the rom.zip through adb
