The latest OTA update has made my phone useless as a
phone, as it now gets no mobile reception...
Is there a way to reverse this upgrade?
My other option is a custom ROM, but i would prefer to stay stock at the moment if at all possible.
you can always run an RUU - One that doesnt contain the update
I was just educating myself on RUUs.
does it matter which one i run? i think my phone is unlocked/unbranded (i bought it second hand) but i'm not sure
EDIT: Nevermind, i checked my baseband against the list of RUUs and found that it is in fact unbranded. Now i know which one to get... just need FileFsctory to let me get it...
which is it you need ? Chances are there's a mirror somewhere
found a mirror, thanks
back to start... i tried to install the 1.53 version and it game an error 140 (bootloader)
I think its because the OTA updated the bootloader !
you cannot downgrade using RUU unless you have S-OFF
Well, i guess i'll have to root and install a custom ROM.
Thanks for the help!
what part do you want to revert ? The radio update ? Cause if so, there is a way to do this
Yeah, the radio. When i was 0.15 radio it worked, now with 0.16 it doesn't
Ok have a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684477
I dont think you have to have CWM installed on your device, You just need it on your PC, So you can boot into it.
Thanks! can't seem to find a 0.15 radio though

OP does know the consequences of rooting devices right? It avoids your warrenty.
So just want to make sure, do you not get reception anywhere or only at certain area? If the former, it may indicate a fault on your phone caused by the update and you should not deal with it by rooting cos there is a chance rooting and downgrading may not fix it then you would have no where to go. The right move IMO, is to take the phone back to point of sale and demand an exchange. Most of users like me do not have such problem after update.
Just to remind, if you know what you are doing, by all means.

Look here http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/extract-rom-from-ruu once extracted the rom.zip, open it up and take out the radio.img.
put it in the place where you keep all your adb stuff. and flash it using the method linked a few posts back
Went though the whole process but baseband version still reads 0.16xxxxxxxx
It doesn't seem to have worked
Well, at this point i'm fairly certain i need to rollback my radio, as i installed CM9 and still no cell signal. I checked and it had the same baseband as the 1.78 ROM.
Hi,
I want to flash an AT&T One X to some of the latest jelly bean ROMs (MIUI in particular). The phone is currently rooted with the old firmware. I've read all the guides and I'm unclear as to how to upgrade the firmware on existing root.
Since its currently rooted, do I just flash one of the new ROMs and I'm updated to new firmware?
Or do I do RUU first to new firmware and re-root? (Do I use the original bin file from first root?) If so, is there a guide for this around?
Thanks for the help
Is your bootloader unlocked, and do you have TWRP installed?
If so, flashing JB is like flashing any other ROM (no need to RUU, and no benefit at all to do so). Just move the ROM to the phone's SD card, then flash from recovery. If on hboot 1.14, you will need to extract boot.img from the ROM zip, and flash with fastboot.
This will likely answer many of your questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952076
Also, its customary (and useful) to have some information about the question you are asking in your thread title, not just [Q].

Just flash the new rom. You wouldn't want to update your firmware because then you would have to flash the boot.img seperately in fastboot, and you would n't be able to flash radios, or boot animations at all. In fact many people have downgraded their firmware to the old version because of these annoyances.

and that would update the phones firmware to 2.20 but still have hboot 1.14 - which I understand is the preferred version? The RADIO thread says you can't flash radios unless on CM10 with the newer hboot. I'd like to update the phone to the latest and greatest radio too, I'd be safe doing that then?

Firmware and ROM are the same thing. Once you flash a ROM, it formats the system partition and installs the new ROM/firmware. The old firmware is wiped, and new one installed.
Firmware number reported in Settings is somewhat irrelevant when you flash a custom ROM. It will say whatever the dev makes it say, such as MIUI 2.12 etc. The custom ROM might be based on an official firmware number (such as JB 3.17) but its been modded by the dev, so its not really the same firmware anymore. The ROM thread will tell you what firmware version its based on. If you want JB, its going to be based on fimrware 3.xx.
Installing custom ROMs does not touch hboot. The only way to downgrade hboot is with the JET kit in the Development forum, which requires a Linux computer.

OK got the first part.
Bootloader says unlocked and hboot 1.09. So I'm good to go download the latest radio I think.
I'm having trouble identifying which latest radio to update to for an AT&T phone in the US.

Yes, you are good to flash radios with hboot 1.09.
The latest radio from AT&T is the one that was released with firmware 2.20. See the radio thread, if you haven't already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012
Keeping in mind the latest radio will not always yield the best results. Radio reception is most often linked to your exact geographic location, and is often a matter of trial and error. But I think many people had some decent battery life improvement with the 2.20 radio. You are also free to try radios 2.29, 2.40 etc. The fact that they were released for other carriers in other countries is irrelevant. They may still yield reception improvements, or not. As mentioned, radio flashing is pretty much trial and error. The latest is not necessarily the greatest.

Hmm.. all is well except the phone died while playing with it and now won't charge via a PC USB cable? No charge light at all.
After you flashed a rom or before? If it completely died it'll take 5 or so minutes before the light comes on and able to boot up once its on the charger.
By all means I mean no disrespect and I'm not questioning your intelligence, but make sure your computer is on while you are charging via USB. I forget about that sometimes
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
Also, use the wall charger, not USB, when something like this happens. The wall charger charges much faster (more amps?) than USB, by far. Leave it on the wall charger for several hours, then see if the charge light comes on, or if you can boot.
This has randomly happened to some people, and leaving the phone on the wall charger for a few hours usually does the trick.
yup it came back after a couple minutes. thanks again.
Question is in the title. I don't like the new update, I think it even broke texting to one specific person for me, and well.. I see no benefit from this update. I cannot name a single thing that's better than the ICS version. I won't purchase a HTC anymore, but for the time being, I'd like to make the most of it using a non-root-stuff method. Is this possible?

If you updated with the OTA then no you can't but you could flash a custom rom that's ICS.
what do you mean by broke texting? sms/mms are working flawless in all roms, stock or not.
however you most probably will have to downgrade hboot, to be able to execute an older ruu
You can't, the RUU needs a hboot version that is lower than or equal to the one currently installed.
You could also do a factory reset from hboot, which restores all settings to their defaults.

But yes. Either flash a custom ICS ROM or downgrade your hboot. (Or both.)
Hey, I just got an LG Optimus T, don't worry, I have already rooted with Z4root, and flashed recovery with ROM Manager.
My question is this:
I want to install a Jelly Bean ROM but am not sure about the basebands.
If I flash the old baseband fix to update to v20, as recommended in the main Q/A thread, will the stock ROM still function?
And if I do, then would I be able to safely and effectively flash ANY Android 4.0+ P500 ROM?
And why don't any ROMs use the Apps2SD+ script? It seems like a better way of using the sd-ext then Link2SD.
Because this will be my 58 year old Mother's phone, and I would prefer it to be automated so she doesn't need my help as often. lol.
Thanks, and sorry for asking what I'm sure has been asked before.
About basebands:
If you choose to use the old baseband fix, that is temporary, as in you must flash that fix each time you flash a rom. Long story short, this fix replaces three files in the rom zip. Assuming that you have a backup of the stock rom, going back to stock is as easy as restoring that backup.
To answer your question, yes, you can flash any 4.0+ roms provided that you flash the old baseband fix afterwards.
Not much I can say about apps2sd or link2sd. I don't use those scripts.

Cool, Is there a permanent fix for the baseband?
And are you saying the fix changes the ROMs so they will work on the older baseband? And It isn't really changing my baseband at all?

This is the permanent fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530
And yes, you are correct. The fix just makes the ROMs compatible with your current baseband.
If you don't want to keep flashing the fix every time, use the permanent fix above. The permanent fix actually changes your baseband. With that permanent fix, you can choose to flash either the old baseband or the new baseband.
Since you have the Optimus T, you have the old baseband, so if you want to use the permanent fix, you will need to flash the new baseband. However, if you do decide to go back to stock, you will need to use this program again and flash the old baseband.
Awesome. Thanks!
Is there any benefit to using the new baseband here in the States?

Not that I know of. If I remember correctly, some people claimed that the new baseband gives better signal, but when I gave it a shot, signal wasn't affected at all.
Also, if you have data, it is highly recommended that you keep the old baseband. I had a question similar to yours, and this was the explanation:

Okay, cool. If they do have different radios, (which most T-mobile phone variants do) then to be safe I think I'll just flash the fix after if I flash a ROM for the P500.
Thanks for your help!
So I have used TMOUS rom for ALONG time and recently decided to switch to use Cyanogen being a fan of it form other platforms.
While on the TMOUS rom I had 4g connectivity in my area about 90% of the time with the occasional drop into 3g here and there. It always displayed a 4g image in the top.
When I switched to Cyanogen that pretty much stoped. It always says 3g and is slow as hell. every once in awhile it will say H+ but not for long. MOST of the time it is constantly switching between 3g/4g/edge then shutting off.
Now im not sure if its a rom problem or not, but its making me want to switch back to a TMOUS rom.
Any suggestions would be great!
Edit: Just for clairification, I am S-On
I have this problem as well. I even ran the ruu back to stock and it is still happening. Please and thank you!

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem
I have been trolling the net for weeks but have not found a solution yet.
I've posted in threads here but no solution.....
My issues started when I went to CM ROM - I used to have great 4g all the time before I went to custom rom (I was on stock TMO US) .. Now no matter what I do, I am not able to get 4G again.... it's really irritating...
I've tried a bunch of custom ROMS.. I am on 1.13 HBOOT and S-ON .. .. CID = HTC__001 (originally my CID was stock TMO US CID whatever that is but now its not that.. I don't wan to run RUU because I don't have TMO US CID and dont want to brick my phone)
You can set your CID back easily with the All in One ToolKit found here.http://www.hasoon2000.info/getdownload.php?file=One%20S/One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v4.0.rar
That is not the problem, unfortunately. It just doesn't make much sense, whatever the problem is; and especially considering after a full RUU restock. That has always fixed whatever mess I have created in the past.
This rom should fix your problem. Dont forget to clear storage from bootloader. It will erase everything thoug. And follow the steps under show contents link.

I not sure if its a CID problem. The only thing I ever did was upgrade to the newest Hboot and load in the CM rom. even going back to the TMOUS rom does not fix the problem.

I'm in the same boat, friend. I've tried literally everything suggested, I'm just wondering what exactly happened in the flashing of the Maximus rom. The worst part being is that I GET 3g/H and then it drops back to E. It's so strange. The only thing I've not done is contact Tmobile about it, and i highly doubt that they would throttle my bandwidth without contacting me in some form or fashion.

From what I've read, it's doable; even with an unlocked phone. But I'd really like to know what in the dev's source code made this happen... it's a bit ridiculous.

So what I did first was go into TWRP and selected wipe. Inside wipe i selected EVERYTHING, every little box. Then Wiped it.
This left nothing on the phone but the recovery. I then loaded on SuperSU from TWRP. I download the stock TMOUS rom that was posted earlier in this post.
In TWRP I mounted it and hooked it to computer and transfered the rom over.
Once the rom was on I did the install of the rom.
I rebooted the rom into bootloader.
Once in bootloader i put it into fastboot.
I had previous extracted the boot.img from the rom.
I sent the boot.img over via fastboot which restarted the phone.
Once it got all started up. No issues. I am on 4g 99% of the time now.
Im thinking the issue was definatly based in the CM rom.
Since this worked I wanted to test things out since my phone was pretty much stripped of everything.
I tried out Viper rom and a couple of other non CM based roms, and I have had no issues.
IM back on teh TMOUS rom though. Wifi calling will win over when i go overseas.
Thanks, but it did not work for me. It is a hardware issue on mine. Thanks again

Must be.
I did find something out though doing all my research. Did you ever at any point update the radio? TMobile uses some frequencies that some companies dont use.
It is my understanding that some of these roms are packed with radios that are generic and thus ment for multi carriers.
Not sure if thats your issue, but might want to look into.
Its nice being back on 4g though.
