NEED HELP!! - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my sprint nexus s lastnight and installed cm9 nightly build rom. i realized that i had no signal at all. i went into networks and get an error trying to scan for networks and tried to flash another cm9 rom and still have no signal. i dont know what else to do i guess i really messed up not making a backup of my stock rom. any help would be really awesome.

okay, you maybe flashed a rom NOT for your Nexus S model, you flashed one for the 3g version (i presume you have the 4G version, Sprint version), so you should flash a rom that is for the NS 4G.
so try wipe data, and flash a rom from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=crespo4g&type=stable, just to be sure, can you check your model by checking a sticker under the battery, and tell me what it is.

You probably flashed a GSM Nexus s Rom. Stick to the Nexus S 4G forum and it shouldn't happen again.

i had tried to install a s4g rom when i first started lastnight but when i did i kept getting an error msg and the the installation was aborted. my model # is sph-d720

D720 is NS4G. You could've gotten a bad download. Try redownloading and flashing a 4G rom.

which recovery do i use for the sprint version?

If you do decide to use those factory images to return to stock you would of course used the ones labeled nexus s 4g
Those are to be flashed through fastboot. Read up on how to do it if you don't know.

abort message happends when the md5 sum doesn't add up right, i have these problems too, this is how i solved it: i use TWRP and i download the rom using my phone, i'm not sure why, but whenever i download a rom using my pc, installation gets aborted.

[Q] Help With Flashing New Senzation ROM

hey...im wondering what Im doing wrong.....I recently rooted my Sprint Galaxy S2 (EL29 and was running the most recent Blazer ROm and decided to try out the Senzation V2.3 ROM..I went throught the usual steps CWM, format system, full wipe, install zip..but for some reeason my phone locks up at the first bootloader image where it says Samsung Galaxy S II in white...I restored my phone once already and tried again but to no avail...could anyone inform me what could be casuig my phone to freeze at this screen...thanks in advance
Bad download? Did you check it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
it seemed to save in my GS2 ROMs folder on my desktop just fine..:/
how would I be able to check and see if the download was bad or not?..
maybe the source gave you a md5 checksum. go and check if this numbers are the same as the ones of your downloaded one...
btw this is always a good thing to do for preventing bricks... (especially when flashing radios ...)

i am on osx and i use the terminal: md5 filename.ext
on windows you can use tools like fastsum dot com. just google for it

yea when it was flashing I spotted a line that appear with that checksum phrase in it....
EDIT: I ran a checksum on it but Im still not clear on whether the download was bad or not..:/
ok, and was it the same as the source said it should be?
again, best advise is to compare the md5 sums before flashing anything on your device. sometimes you get errors while downloading files from the internet. so you can be safe that your downloaded files are not corrupt.
so you are hanging before you can access CWM or after flashing and first bootup?
after flashing on the first bootup...it just stalls right there..but then i restore, flash Blazer again, and everything works fine
Edit: does the fact that this was based on EK02 make it non compatible with my EL29?
ok... tried redownloading it?
really did a full wipe and cleared dalvik?
maybe you find the answer in the roms original thread?

You're not installing the right ROM for your phone maybe? You need to install NS4G roms, not NS roms.
Since you have already tried other ROMs too, I guess that Its probably due to wrong Radio.
What is your phone model mentioned under the battery?
Secondly, boot into bootloader mode by pressing volume up and power button, and tell me the Radio version too.

Thanks, I was about to just give kies a try but if it doesn't work I guess I'll just try that. I honestly don't know how I missed that, and I suppose the only thing that Odin package doesn't include is a firmware or something to do with the modem. WiFi works, just absolutely no cell. -120dbm, and no/unknown network.
I have a feeling the problem was caused by flashing a cm11 build for the d2vzw, instead of what I believe now to be the correct model build, the d2lte. No idea why, this is CDMA-V.
-----------------
Ok, went ahead and flashed the unbrick.img to the specified location in post 15, rebooted, and still says unknown network with -120 dBm and no signal. But I don't know if I'd be able to tell if it worked because the phone just had it's service transferred to another phone.

Anyone having the same problem, just flash the unbrick.img and Odin flash the stock ROM posted a few pages back. That should fix modem problems with a SCH-S968C from flashing the incorrect model's custom roms.

i get no cell service and no internet service. i installed cm-10.2.1-d2vzw.zip in cwr mode then lost cell service, i restored my cwr backup but still no cell service, then i flashed back to the stock image that is in this thread, then i put my backup back on but no cell service. it doesn't connect to the towers.
do i need to put cm-10.2.1-d2vzw.zip on my phone to change the cell setting the stock straight talk doesn't have those settings.
i am using this as my recovery image recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.5-d2vzw.tar
i flash the cm-10.2.1-d2vzw with CWR for more network options and selected the NV setting reboot phone and got my txts and can make calls. i think every thing is working but camera but i saw the fix in this thread how do i make a backup, that also backs up the modem. and i wasn't able to connect with the stock firmware ?? but it doesn't have network cell settings. is it a nandroid back i need to do

Hi, I got the same error a couple of days ago when I bricked my phone and it was because of the ROM I downloaded. If you tried to flash a 5.0.2 ROM you'll get that error, flash a 5.1.1 instead and it should go fine

Just download the stock ROM, but make sure its running the version 5.1.1 and NOT the version 5.0.2.
Then just flash that ROM through odin and it should be fine.

Technically everything you flash wether it is over Odin or recovery is called a rom. Only the Stock ones provided by the manufacturer are called firmware. You could also say custom firmware for custom roms.
But no confusion here

I probably should've checked before trying, but is this for the latest Feb update? It's bootlooping on my Metro Stylo 2 Plus. The download links work though.

Just starting with basics. did you wipe system by any chance?
and is your boot.img unsecure? If not download the Unsecure boot and flash via fastboot or flashing app like flashify apk.
Try restoring your odex stock first and make sure you install this per the op directions only. Let me know if you got it.
Thanks..
If you want a t-mobile rom you must flash any k550 .dz file using the LG UP tool. Even if you do your t-mobile or any other sim card will not work unless your phone is network unlocked.. Meaning you paid for an unlock service or the phone has at least 90 days worth of active service.

You are correct. No Gapps needed on this Final build.
I made it this way to keep native video calling.
Flashing the entire stock Gapps package replaces the stock dialer app.

When I tested the procedure, that will happen because you have to wipe data and format. Put the zips on your sd_card and flash from there. Ext_sdcard is preferred that's all.. Just don't wipe System ,Internal storage and External.
Ok Thanks. So far running smooth.
Hey, thanks for the response. I tried it several times, restoring my backup after each bootloop. I know your zip only has the four folders you said to delete (and then you flash them back from the zip).
Anyway, I tried flashing a dz file, but it did not work and I got to the miniOS scray looking thing. Luckily I was able to flash twrp back and restored my backup once again.
I am gonna keep trying to put the Tmobile rom on there though because I had the first Stylo and it was locked to Metro, but once I converted to the Tmobile rom, it worked fine. Hopefully that is still the case.
But yeah, thanks for providing the files.
P.S. I think my Stylo Plus 2 is still on the original rom from August, cause I just got it yesterday and didn't update before I rooted.

Your bootloader OEM unlock in developer options must be checked and of course you already unlocked your bootloader via fastboot command..Fastboot OEM unlock..
Make sure you have a permissive boot.img. I posted a boot in the op if needed.... Just some food for thought.
